Chainmail, Hon's little foray into town with caravan guards is not meant as a sidequest. It is to justify the newly acquired skills from leveling to 3rd and stated goals in PBP spoiler. He'll return in a timely manner (as per your discretion). Will post accordingly when given the prompt.
So no looky for trouble, discretion is the better part of valor, don't split the party, etc.
I know, I know. This is like waving the red cape in front of the bull.

![]() |

@Kib: I am glad to hear there is another "pro" for the PBP. This is my third attempt at a PBP.
@Kragg: Hon will come back and regale you with all the wonders of the human city called Garrison. He'll keep an eye out for those females that are Dwarf-curious in case you want some action on the DL. He'll be dropping your name regardless... I made them promise to be discreet.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

(that was supposed to say 'the Party is frequently split..', in case that wasn't clear)
Don't know as I'd call myself a pro, but I have been around the boards for a surprisingly long time now. One of my games is into it's Fourth year!
And lmao, boy oh boy, is Kragg gonna love you Hon. Unless he has a secret fetish none of us know about??

![]() |

[chuckle] Not Pro as in professional but Pro vs Con. It is easier to play sidetreks in a PBP. One does not have a group of people "bored" at the table awaiting their turn for the limelight. A quick internet check is all it takes, not an intrusion in daily RL.
As for the Dwarf curious... I'll have to post this IC. I just realized that Hon has the highest dwarven Charisma of the group. What to do, what to do?

Kragg Stoneheart |

Trust me Hon, if Kragg finds out about your involvement with ladies that are Dwarf curious, your human caravan friends are not going to be able to help. You will find yourself naked but a loin cloth, bound and at the ladies mercy. I haven't decided if you will be conscious at the time or not. Just a fair warning.
Hopefully your high Ddwarven Charisma will satisfy them.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

Ah! lol, well in that case, I am in full agreement. While there's nothing quite like the energy and excitement of a live table game, there are many ways a PBP game trumps it, especially when it comes to Role Play.
I found PbPs when I was living in Mexico and there wasn't an (english speaking) game to be found for miles. T'was a life saver!
And ah, Kragg, shhh! Don't encourage him!!

Khazad Grimglaive |

I 'third' this. This is by far the most enjoyable PbP I'm in, for what it's worth.
That said, the axe is on its way to becoming much more useful than Khazad himself! Should I play it as if Khazad is immediately aware of its intelligence, or it will address him on its own later? Also how does the talking occur? Does it actually make the sound, or only Khazad can hear it? Does he need to say words aloud to reply to the item?

Chainmail |

I may have to give him an alias - it will talk in dwarven and has a special purpose to destroy enemies of dwarves = duergar, drow, goblins, orcs and giants. Note: the axe has an ego and will want to 'control' Durnak. The true problem is Durnak's influence will want to put all humans and elves in this category too. Should make for some interesting RP.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Brask your armor is a +3 Mithral chain shirt of light forification (25%). Brask did not get any gp as all of his wealth distrabution was in items. Should be in the discussion thread a couple of pages back.

Moving items discussion here.
OK, I will acquire a +1 dwarven waraxe, +1 mithril chainmail, and a +1 large steel shield that Kragg is willing to trade for the +1 tower shield. Also a cloak of protection +1.
Was there also a wand (of hold person?) and some scrolls?

Chainmail |

Unless someone personally recommends a replacement, we are leaving Ninni in limbo with her gear. So if you want to personally recommend someone that will appreciate a little out of the box homebrew, have them post in the recruitment thread. It is not worth opening recruitment for one. If you check out the common thread, you can see you are somewhat ahead of the elves. It will be even more apparent next post in the common thread.
Finally, another of my home rules that directly affects Khazad that I have decided to fully implement.
Fighters are always a favored class for dwarves. If a dwarf has chosen fighter as his favored class, the favored class bonus is applicable twice. A single class dwarven fighter can choose +2 hp, +2 skill points, or +1 hp and +1 skill point every level for his 2x FC bonus.
Sorry Khazad, I know it pains you to tweak your character sheet again.

Brask Alpsbane |

Okay, plan is to sell the chain shirt, the arrows, and the cloak of resistance. Other gear I'm selling: Longbow, hammers (3), and Backback
83 + 183 + 37 + 500 + 8550 + 103 + 1 + 1 = 9458 gp 29 sp
Buying: +1 composite Longbow (+1 STR rating), +1 Mithral chainshirt, Handy Haversack, +1 enhancement on greataxe, 40 blunt arrows, 40 regular arrows.
9460 - 2500 - 2100 - 2000 - 2000 - 2 - 4 = 854 gp left.
I know blunt arrows are from the APG, but I would like to have a way of dealing bludgeoning without having to rely on a hammer. They cost 2GP for 20 and deal bludgeoning damage instead of piercing. Other wise they are the same as regular arrows. SRD Link
As for Ninni, I don't know of anyone interested off the top of my head. I think having a paladin would be great. If you put a feeler out in the recruitment thread I'm pretty sure you'd get something.

Khazad Grimglaive |

Khazad should currently have 8041.44 gp in commodities. He will sell his backup +1 Waraxe and mundane longbow+arrows. This leaves him with 9089 gp.
He is going to buy:
2 potions of cure serious wounds 1500gp,
Amulet of Natural Armor +1 2000gp,
Belt of Con +2 4000gp
Which should leave him with 1589 gp.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

@Brask: Dude! You can't sell your owl cloak!! That's like, part of our colours man! You want to be kicked out of the gang or something?? Sheesh!
Carrying on:
I also know a several great gamers on here, most of them very frequent posters. And same as Khazed I can PM them or drop a link in the OOC threads for my games with them.
Then we can let them all fight it out for the honour of joining this kick ass group : D
Will figure out Kib's purchaces shortly.
A few questions: 1 well we have enough time here for Kib to finish making the rings for everyone?
And, if there's even more time, Kib would like to increase the value of his raw materials (the volcanic glass, adamantium and so forth) by making bit of jewellery out of them to sell. So my questions regarding that are, how long would it take per piece, and how much over the value of the material itself would his crafting make them?
So for example, if he takes 50gp of volcanic glass, he could turn it into ??gp of jewellery over ?? amount of time?
I find the craft rules to be somewhat confusing and illogical, given the amount of time it seems to take vs the gp value you get out of it. So if you have or want to make some ruling for this homebrew game of your Chainmail, that would be great.

Chainmail |

The black market Magnum and Nar know about -- in Wheeltown -- may have some 'inflation' (common DM trick to reduce party resources). The good news is magic goods will have similar price increases when you sell them.
Unless Nar is picking up the heavy armor proficiency, the mithral chain is quite good.
As I realize Wareagle was carrying a heavy GM burden on the threads, feel free to invite anyone to the common dwarf/elf recruitment thread. The elves can actually use some help too--they are at four PCs and sent Magnum's NPC counterpart packing (he did come on rather strong in the beginning if you remember -- Kragg can testify to that). I am still letting the party leaders help pick from the general recruitment arena.

Nar Redgrave |

Unless Nar is picking up the heavy armor proficiency, the mithral chain is quite good.
Since I didn't qualify for power attack at first I went with heavy armor. While mithral chain is nothing to sneeze at, a battle cleric like me needs extra weight to keep his feet on the ground.

Kragg Stoneheart |

So the question for Kragg is...does he splurge on adamantine breastplate or use the extra cash to just enhance the breastplate from +1 to a +3? Also, would we have to go to Wheeltown for the adamantine? If so, I would probably just buy the lesser armor now.

Kragg Stoneheart |

I was thinking more of minions hitting me and dealing less damage. 2/- damage reduction every hit I take. Adds up after a while and I don't knw when I will have the 10000gp again to purchase it. Upgrades I can do slowly as I go.
P.S. What am I suppose to do with the greataxe that I grabbed? Keep and sell for party loot or sell and divide up later?

Chainmail |

It was Durnak's axe - it may have sentimental value.
Adamantite will be quite expensive when you find it. Nar knows the dwarven smiths in Wheeltown, so if it is there you will find it.
We had some posters in the elf recruit thread, which is fine. Normally I was trying to get recruits in the common thread so they could move to either dwarf or elf thread once accepted. No problems, though. It will all work out. You just don't want to put prime talent with the opposition :-)

So, Hon has plain non-magical Mithril, unless I missed a plus somewhere. Cause Hon has armor envy right about now (and I did not know that is what Brask had either) And Brask is planning on selling his +3 Fortification Mithril to get a +1 Mithril. I am confused. Why?

Brask Alpsbane |

the armor's nice, but Brask is not a straight up front liner. He is an archer and a scout first and melee fighter second. That said, he needs a better bow more than he needs a better AC. His job is to turn stuff into pin-cushions while the likes of Kragg and Khazad practice their butchery skills. That said, if any one wants it, the resell value on it is 8550 gp or 17100 gp if you buy it from an armorer. I'll be nice and sell for 8550 gp, unless I can't do that for some reason. That said if anybody wants anything else, speak now.

![]() |

Ah. I just reviewed and caught the missing +1 on my Mithril. [/eyeroll]Sadly, Hon is without sufficient cash reserves to purchase this from Brask, at this time. Such is life.
Hon is not much of a crossbowman, tries to be a scout but is definitely a skill monkey and self-appointed ambassador (of fun).

Kragg Stoneheart |

Hon if you want, you already have a cold dagger from Thograt. Trade Brask the dagger for the armor. That should cover the cost and you will have the armor you want and Brask can sell his dagger to get a good bow.
Point taken Chainmail, will keep the axe and return it along with Durnak's words to his family.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

Yup, definitely go for the adamantine I say Kragg, as you don't know when and opportunity like this will come up again.
I put the word out in several of the best threads I'm in as well, so should have at least a few hits. I put links to both recruitment threads for Dwarves and Elves, BUT I did make it clear that they had to choose one or the other first. No Peeking!
PS Any word on Kib's questions yet boss?

![]() |

[another eyeroll] I just caught the "+3" on my repeating crossbow of distance. I apparently never plugged it in. [/string of curses] Fixing that now. As for my original Mithril shirt I have two conflicting reports of either mundane or +1. And you are right regarding the +2Icy dagger. It will lose me a melee weapon but gain some serious defense. I believe I purchased the dagger from Thorgrat for 2700 but retail value at 16K. I'll do a trade if Brask is willing.
It is all about risk reduction for Hon. This is what he would do. [sigh]As for his remaining wealth? Like I originally posted, it went into goodwill projects and financial support in the clan hold. Which will be paying dividends very soon in this city, if I play it right.

Brask Alpsbane |

After further consideration, the cloak of resistance stays.
Okay I'll trade for the dagger. Hon now has a nice mithral chain shirt, a +3 arrow and a Bane arrow.
Gold adjustment:
9151 - 8550 - 83 - 183 = 335
Okay Kragg, can you mark down that I owe Hon 335 gp from our next haul.
Actually a +3 dagger is 18302 doesn't matter how the plusses are spent. so a +3 dagger, a +2 Frost dagger, and a +1 Icy Burst dagger are all the same.
Anyway I'm off to buy some potions.
Edit:
Potions Bought:
-4 enlarge person (4 @ 50 gp => 200 gp)
-9 CLW (9 @ 50 gp => 450 gp)
354 + 335 - 200 - 450 = 39

Crafting requires the standard skill rolls and consumes one pound of exotic materials per week assuming no other activities.
Ok, but what would the value be of the crafted items vs their original value?
Also, how much do the various bars weigh? Or all they all a pound? (and therefore various sizes, due to differing densities)
Also, do we have any idea how long we'll be here? How long will it take for Kragg to get his armor made for example?
