Don't buy your stuff yet. The fun of the market still awaits.
Working adamantite, mithral, and the other exotic materials is quite difficult and requires an incredibly hot forge. I think we have Kib work in silver and gold and 5gp in value each week with a successful roll. Adventuring is intended to well outpace jewelry work, though I love the RP concept.
1d6 ⇒ 4 days until market day.
Signature Dark Owl cloaks are +1 cloak of resistance = +1 to all three saves. Not something to be sold lightly. The cloaks of elvenkind are still floating around too.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

Ya, that's what I figured then. But going by RAW, crafting is basically a complete waste of time. I week's work for 5gp? Kib can kill a kobold in 30 seconds and make more than that. So maybe I'll just forget the whole crafting thing. Once the rings are made of course.
Hmm, so now what to do with all this extra ore I suddenly have no use for? Where's that market again?
Finally, how much of the adamantine would you say have been used to make the rings (I think it totals 11, including Ninni, Mug, Magnum and Nar. But he might not be giving Nar one just yet. Fella has to Prove himself first! ; )
And don't worry, I think this is it with the questions for a while.

Brask Alpsbane |

First up, Kragg, can you put 50 gp in the general fund. We'll use this for passage, potions, and rooms.
Second, Unless someone objects I say we stay at the Dwarven HQ. I'll feel more comfortable about having a buch of dwarves surrounding our gear than a couple of humans. If we need to pay for out stay, it comes out of the general fund.
Also, I'm planning on buying a bunch of potions. Most are going to be CLW, these are for emergencies, such as Nar going down or being seperated. The enlarge person potions will be given to the front liners. I believe we're going to need both in the near future.
Any questions?

Kragg Stoneheart |

Should we also consider any other utility spells such as scrolls of knock? Between cleric Nar, bard Gallak, and sorc Kib we have the spell lists pretty much covered. Next level Kragg and Brask get spells which cover some of the druid line as well.
If people want to post a shopping list here I will take it out of party fund as long as we all agree that they are party items and not all going to 1 person, even if the items only Kib will carry. I think that wand is almost a must though to allow for some good combat healing and not waste other spells.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Identify, knock, summonI&II, fog cloud, dimension door, and web are all useful things to have scrolls of, I've found. We're also going to want to be sure we have cold iron, silver, and -possibly- adamantine weaponry among the group, and perhaps magic weapon oils, depending on equipment, since we can expect to start seeing elementals. Potions or scrolls of see invisibility or invisibility will bolster our defense against and capability to inflict subterfuge.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Magic oil I don't know about since we should all have magic weapons after the market. D-door gets expensive quick and it only allows for the caster and 2 others. Good for 3 people but kind of screws the rest. See invisibility is aself only so I don't think a potion can be made.I hope I am wrong because that would almost be a must have for everyone. I will be picking up a basic bow and all 3 ammunition types just in case. Hard part is to limit myself and not over spend right now.

Maybe dust of appearance instead? Though that can add up but it does let everyone see it. (Or glitterdust spell/scroll)

Gallak Fangbreaker |

"It can duplicate the effect of a spell of up to 3rd level that has a casting time of less than 1 minute and targets one or more creatures or objects."
It can get expensive to have dimension door, but we're dwarves, so we're easy to outmaneuver. Dimension door gets both frontliners in fast, or non-frontliners out fast. Another obvious choice is potions of expeditious retreat or WARPONIES for all, especially frontliners and rogues.

Kragg Stoneheart |

I am just hoping that Kragg makes it to 4th level and takes longstrider so he has a speed of 30ft. Come Khazad, catch me if you can. LAst 1 to the humans or elves is a rotten gnome.
Sorry Kib, low blow. and yes Kragg will get you to cast a spell on the axe eventually. He is just biding his time playing pranks on Hon right now.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Quick RP question, how old is all the characters. I made Kragg just under middle age. Was wondering if Kragg is the oldest in the party or not. Would definitely play up the wiser and you better listen to me Hon role. RESPECT your elders....

Brask Alpsbane |

We got lucky last time. The original plan was a wash, but between the mad charge to link up, Kragg just being awesome, and a steady stream of arrows from me.
As for the potions, these are coming out of my pocket, so no need to worry, it's also why I now... owe... a rogue money...
Dammit Hon's never gonna let Brask live this down.
I think we'll be alright with weapon blanches for now. Get a few of each and give them to the front liners.
Warponies could work, but it's a matter of trying to invest in the mounted combat feat to make it effective. Unless I'm missing something, which is likely.

Hon is considered an adult, most certainly not middle age yet it is obvious he lost that sense of invulnerableness a while back. I have not given any thought to silver/cold iron or anything that bypasses DR simply because it is outside Hon's experience. Ignorance is bliss. He'll take advice and make purchases accordingly. He seems to be short a few daggers and bolts.
Brask, wait till he calls in the chit. THAT you won't live down.

Khazad Grimglaive |

Right, I forgot CLW wands exist - I'll scratch the CSW potions off my shopping list.
Khazad should be relatively young, in mid-20s by human count. Say, 66 years.
Also, WARPONIES? Khazad would rather be dead than mount one. What colour should they be? Warpink?
Now, if our noble rangers could tame us a few bears...

![]() |

I am favoring a Dire Boar. With Armor. Yes. That is what I want.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

I gave some consideration to barbarian, actually.
I'll need two levels to really make it work, and even then...
I'm going to end up using claws and a bite. It's really just better for me to have a battleaxe. ESPECIALLY if I can get this modified.
Plus, I need to buy other stuff, so unless I can "sell" the magical properties of it, I'm really stuck in a moral/familial quandary.
Maybe I've got a cousin that's a merchant. Keep the Axe in the family and still get the moneys, lol.

Some scrolls and a wand or few are definitely on Kib's list. I don't mind putting most or all of them on Kib's personal tab, but if they're is anything specific the party feels they need or want outside of that, Kib's happy to have the kitty by them and use them for the benefit of the group (which is, really, what he's doing with all of his spells anyway)
Glitterdust is a great low level spell and likely the best best to combat invisibility at our level. I seriously considered giving it to Kib now. He will get it eventually though.
Here's an almost complete list of some of the scrolls/wands he's considering stocking up on.
Prot. from Evil
Shield
Comprehend Languages
True Strike
Feather Fall
Protection From Arrows (DR10/magic vs ranged)
Resist Energy
Invisibility
Mirror Image
Cat's Grace
Rope Trick
Aspect of the Falcon
Lessor Restoration
Longtrider
Chameleon Stride
Web
Enlarge Person
Scorching Ray
Fog Cloud
(Maybe even) a good old fashioned Fireball, since he's got the cash right now.
Am very welcome to further suggestions of course.
He already has a wand of Knock, but only 8 charges, so maybe another one is warranted. Question Chainmail, can we buy wands with less than full charges in this game?
Gallak, I've never really found Summon Monster to be much worthwhile under SM III, unless you have some particular insight on that?

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Well I took the liberty at looking at a few prior combats, and some up-front support is generally where you lack (splitting up enemies, soaking damage, more attacks) and the elementals from summon II (especially earth) can really clobber. Moreover, throw a few dogs up front, and they can fight defensively, activate smite, trip, and aid another, not to mention flank. Plus, the celestial eagle easily harries distant enemies, soaking attacks until the frontliners get in.
As a slow party, summoned creatures also provide a valuable screen to keep enemies from spreading out too much or fleeing.
Summoned creatures in the right places can add up to a + 4 on attack rolls, and provide a screen of about 20hp.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

Ok, ya sold me, adding some summon stuff to the list ; )
With no wizard along, I plan to make Kib as utility capable as possible with the scolls and wands he picks up.
Plus Gallak can and will help with all of that as well, I am sure. Since Gallak will usually be more frontline, perhaps he should pick up the up- close up damage dealing spells (burning hands?) and such while kib concentrates more on party aiding and long distance damage?

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Keep in mind that in the dark, gnomes are much better at scroll reading than dwarves with low-lite and innate dancing lights.
But yes, any number of offensive spellpower would be well worth it in Gallak's hands.
Wands: ghouls touch, spectral hand, flaming sphere are all available and dangerous. Scorching ray, magic Missile, and burning hands... Even a modified spell, say, extended shield or enlarged magic missile.

Kragg Stoneheart |

The only advice I would give on scrolls is to not have direct damage offensive scrolls. The save DC's are at the minimum meaning you aren't doing the damage you think you will. If a damage spell has other side effects such as acid fog where it still happers vision, great. Fireball at 5d6 and a DC of 14 means 16 damage if they fail and they have a 50% chance to make the save on average for less damage.

Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye |

Oh ya, Thorgrat had that covered, but he's not here anymore. Adding it to the list. And maybe a scroll or few of darkvision for the two of us that don't have it.
Also, posting for me will be spotty for the next week. Should still be able to get at least one post in a day, but if you need to DMPC Kib for anything, go ahead Chainmail.

Kragg Stoneheart |

That's a good point except for scorching ray and magic missile, which ignore the rule, as they are touch attack and unstoppable, respectively.
Providing you have point blank shot and precise shot and a decent dex to make sure you hit for scorching ray. They are worth mentioning, but I have never had much success with them.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

One reason why I suggested Enlarged Scorching Ray/ Magic missile. It forces a higher caster level.
I generally use Scorching ray to combat either a)ranged fighters or b)with excellent teamwork, heavy armor. But magic missile is indeed likely to be our best bet.
Fog cloud and Web- add them to the scroll list.

Just FYI. This is the first Rogue I've played that hasn't tried to skulk, loiter, shadow or stalk. Shades of Rogues past have me twitching for the warehouse spies. Ya killing me Chainmail. And then Brask is about as stealthy as a belled cat with glitterdust.
