Tales from the City of Opal

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This is my homebrew world Arcaia. This particular setting is the free city of Opal, a lush equatorial city set on the edge of an immense jungle rife with undead , ancient civilizations, and dinosaurs.

Male Half-Elf Ranger 1 / Wizard (transmuter) 5

San's actions kind of depend on how many are around him (he starts in (q26):

If he can catch two or more in the area of effect, he'll cast a burning hands spell - DC 15, damage 4d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 4) = 12

Otherwise, he'll attack the nearest with Ghostfetter, activating arcane strike first. attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 damage 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (5, 1) + 8 = 14

Initiatives rd 1:
Joleesa: 26
Izkrael: 22 [Atk-Hit-Kill]
Egan: 21 [Atk-Hit-Kill]
Vilya: 21
Sanvoros: 20 [Ghostfetter]
Seven Eagle: 20 [Bardchant +1 ATK/DAM/Charm/Fear]
Tobias: 20 [Magic missile]
Ten: 19 [Godbomb-drops three]
Ghouls:7 [yes seven. Lame I know..]

The snarling ghouls are met with the sharp attacks of the party. Egan snaps an arrow off at a charging beast, it punctures the thing's eye, turning its forward run into a tumble. It twitches and lies still.

San sees a ghoul pop up behind him. He takes a step 5ft and lashes out with Ghostfetter. The ghoul goes tumbling back into the pit, minus a head. I went with this because Ten is about to godbomb your location

Seven Eagle begins to chant, and the party feels heartened by his strong voice Don't forget your plusses!

Tobias' arcane bolt streaks across the pit and hits a ghoul charging in from the east corridor .N28 The fiend shreiks and keeps on running.

Ten lifts his mug and a wave of beery power foams all over the room.

Gh WS:

Spoiler:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Two of the three ghouls charging from the south drop, the third lopes on, its face showing heavy damage from the energy.

OK Vilya and Jo to go!

Errata post: Egan, I just noticed your posted intention to move to the upper right corner, H28. Assume you have and I will update your token next map..

Bribes always welcome

Further errata post: Upon rereading the channel energy entry in the PRD, it is actually an omnidirectional energy blast, so now M29, N28, L25 are affected as well.

Gh WS:

Spoiler:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

The wave of positive energy causes one more ghoul to drop to the ground M29. The cannibal undead that Tobias singed earlier is still moving, but much more jerkily. The third comes on strong, howling in pain.

Moves to Q23

Your handaxe hit, but you didn't gimmie damage. I'll roll it for you ..

Handaxe damage:1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Vilya springs towards the ghoul racing to Ten and slashes its neck with her axe. The ghoul collapses suddenly, throwing her balance off for her second strike.

Gimmie a confirm fumble roll Vilya, and I'll pick a card for you if it comes up comfirmed :(

Moves to i22, drawing Raptorstrike as she goes.

Jo runs into the room, squaring off with an odd-looking ghoul. Unlike the others, this one has a row of spines running down its back and a vestigal tail with a small scorpion-like stinger attached.

Vilya manages to avoid any pratfalls from her misguided blow.

The ghouls snarl and attack

ON EGAN:

Spoiler:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 31d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

OK, one hit on San, rolling for crit confirm:

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

OK, then a pull of the deck of crits reveals ...

San's opponent slashes him deep on the arm. He attempts to block the hit, but is unsuccessful. Ghostfetter goes flying from the force of the ghoul's blow, hitting the floor with a clang.

BAD PARRY: Double damage and weapon is dropped to ground

14 HP damage and I'll need a DC 14 Fort save San please.

The other ghouls fail to pierce the party's defenses.

NEW ROUND!

Male Half-Elf Ranger 1 / Wizard (transmuter) 5

"Thanks, Tobias!" exclaims San, as he reaches down to grab Ghostfetter. His bonded item back in-hand, San turns and fires off his own brace of magic missiles striking the stronger-appearing ghoul fighting Joleesa (he knows his friend Izkrael can handle the single ghoul he's facing).

damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Male Human Ranger

Izkrael swings at the ghoul in front of him.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 162d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12

If the attack drops the ghoul, Izkrael will move towards the strange ghoul attacking Joleesa. (Moving to I-23.)

Iz's gleaming curve blade slices through the neck of his howling opponent. He vaults towards Jolessa and her spiny foe. San's arcane bolts strike the odd ghoul, the arcane energy juddering the tailed undead.

Jo's snarling nemesis hits with one claw, the long ragged nails drawing a line of fire across her side.

Need a DC 14 Fort Save Jo

Egan's foe gets lucky and a claw and a bite pierce the plucky ranger's defenses.

Since you are half elven no fort save needed ..

Vilya races to Jo's side along with most of the others

New round! Post 'em! Will update map ASAP

Male Half-elf Ranger / 6 (Falconer)

Egan is reminded once again why he avoids close combat. The wounds sting enough, but the smell is enough to make him gag. Oh well the faster he dispenses this thing the faster he can get some fresh air.

Battleaxe Attack (1d20+5=9) "Ouch"! "Get your teeth out of my weapon arm", Egan states with exasperation, while attempting to shake loose the Ghoul's ferocious bite.

Male Human Sorcerer 5

Tobias points his wand at the ghoul attacking Egan, and another bolt of energy lances out.

Male Elf Paladin/Ranger 4/1

Izkrael calls out for the Feathered Serpent to help him vanquish this foe, and then he swings with his blade, which starts to corruscate with a blue and gold light.
Smite on the uber-ghoul: +3 to hit, +6 to damage vs. undead, +3 to AC vs. uber-ghoul
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 302d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 4) + 12 = 20

Male Half-Elf Ranger 1 / Wizard (transmuter) 5

San will target the ghoul attacking Jo with a disrupt undead, then take a move action to get as close to them as he can.

ranged touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 not sure if the -4 for firing into melee applies or not, since I don't care if I hit a friend as this won't hurt them, but if so, take another 4 off the result

Seven Eagle: 20 [Bardchant +1 ATK/DAM/Charm/Fear]
Tobias: 20 [Mag missile]
Ten: 19 [swing anna miss]
Ghouls:7 [attacking]

Iz's deadly curved blade flashes like a beacon of purity, carving down into the foul ghoul's neck, breaking its collarbone.

The ghoul screeches as the sacred power electrifies its undead body. It falls to the ground, truly dead. A faint shiff of sulphur eminates from the corpse. Vilya's handaxe bites deep also as it falls, but the congestion around the spiny ghoul causes Ten, San and Jolessa to swing wide with their attacks.

Jolessa, need a confirm roll on that bad hop you posted

Egan's foe ruins his next attack, the pain of the thing's teeth gnawing his arm throwing him off balance. Tobias' glowing arrow of arcane energy flashes by Egan's head. It strikes the ghoul, throwing it back and breaking its terrier-like hold on Egan's arm. The rancid undead hisses and comes at Egan once again.

Ghoul's CCB:

Spoiler:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 41d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 71d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Fumble roll

Spoiler:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

A black claw whipsaws across Egan's nose, leaving a deep slash as he jinks away from the undead's gnashing fanged jaws. Unfortunately for the ghoul, its other set of claws rakes the wall, throwing limestone chips straight into its bloodshot eyes.

The ghoul is blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 1 round

Ol' Mr ghoul ain't too long on hit points at this juncture, so I'll wrap this one up.

The party rushes to Egan's side and quickly stab the fetid horror he faces to ribbons.

Silence grips the room as the last undead falls. The air is still except for the rapid breathing of the party as they catch their wind.
