Valjoen, any thoughts on the PM I sent last week (/month/year :p)?

Don't ask me how, because I don't know, but I managed to scramble the dopfsrd link with a misplaced "/" where a "." should have gone. This will work.

Don't know what's up with the imgur, the pictures aren't there for me either, not even in my account. Maybe they got scrapped and wiped by a bot (I should have mentioned in the PM that they weren't going to be up for very long to avoid just that thing occuring).

Probably over the weekend, I got distracted and had crap that needed doing. It left little energy or enthusiasm for anything but brainless vegging afterward. Didn't expect those to be in any sort of demand :D, so I wasn't pushing for the last one.

Alright then.

The kiddo is still not 100% and now the wife has the stomach flu... so...

In any event, we have Garidan heading back to his room to, presumably, get his stuff and Niyut heading to the front door. What is Gruskorb, Malz and Truk doing? If I don't hear from them today, I'll give them 50/50 to do either. And we can get this rolling again.

I have now completed what turned-out to be around a short story's worth in the process of rounding-out the corners of Gurskorb's encounter with Lockjaw. The pertinent bits to the situation at hand I'll post tonight along with ratification text to bridge to my absence.

A few questions' answers would help the segue of the post though, but I'll do it later tonight regardless and tweak as necessary:

1. How extensive has the damage to flora & fauna been due to the darkness?

2. Would it be acceptable to predict economies have drastically shifted in terms of what has value and doesn't - and how much those values are?

3. With regards to the Hazards, how famous are they to people not attuned to magic? In the series of recent events, would this fame (or infamy) have increased?

4. Lastly, what would the Aegeans' general take on Elves be - and vice-versa?

Sorry again. I prefer my writing to be of acceptable quality, and I'm not used to being in mental/physical states of incapacity.

Poor Valjoen, wading through a knee-deep pool of nose-drippings, praying that the beast making its lair in the web of mucus in one room doesn't notice. His hands clutch desperately at the talismans and nostrums he needs to fend off the dread scourge--vaporub, cough syrup, decongestant, and tissues--as he seeks to rescue his loved ones from the clutches of Cold and Flu. Suddenly, the pool of slime around his legs begins to churn and roil, and he turns in horror. But it is too late, his doom is upon him, and the dread taint enters his defenseless form and begins its unclean work.

Yep, the sick bug has overstayed its welcome at my house.

@Garidan - I picked up the alchemy Manual and reading it now. I'm ok with it so far but want a good reading of it first. I may, as I've done with other things, add in a manual or two that would have the recipes that you would need to use this system. Please be patient as I work through it. Sorry its taking me some time.

@Gruskorb -

1) In the areas of the world you have so far traveled within, the flora is withering and dying extensively if not completely. Animals are not too far behind.

2) Yes, what you've seen so far the economies have regressed to a barter system with food and basic supplies at a premium. Steel becoming more valuable relative to gold than previously.

3) The Hazards are well known but they magic isn't necessarily seen except in the larger cities where they reside. No real change in fame or infamy from what you've seen to date as most commoners have no idea as to the origin of the destruction of the world.

4) Aegean Hobgoblins, in general, have had the most contact with elves of the three as the merchant and traders of the hobgoblin culture. They have decent relations with the Kingdom of Greyton but find the elves pretentious and a bit full of themselves. However, they respect the elves for their economic sensibilities.

Not a problem. However, remember that Garidan did get that essence that he used for the +5 bonus to the Craft (alchemy) skill. Now, there hasn't been any sort of exploration or definition of what level of knowledge that +5 actually translates into. However, I'd like to suggest that--as you've okayed the acquisition of reagents during Garidan and Gruskorb's pilfering trip through parts of Haemil--he can at least recognize those (and alcoholic substances brewed using the skill as well) on sight; subject to approval of the AM's contents, that knowledge might also extend to giving him a couple of recipes to work with as well, maybe one general alchemy item and one beverage? So he has something to play with until such manuals and treatises you see fit to introduce can actually find their way into his acquisitive little hands :D.

Quick heads up...

I'm heading to Mexico on vacation this coming Monday. I expect to have access to the internet and will be posting, but may be slower than normal. Once back the following week, I should be back to normal positions every week day.

Also, today I'm posting the recruitment of a second campaign that will start in February. Please feel free to comment or apply.

Talanor: the Last Haven Recruitment

Hope your vacation is fun and relaxing. Before you leave though, can I (pretty please) get a ruling on the alchemy thing, and the general craft thing as well, that I sent you that message about?

Also, I'm embarrassed to realize that I have, for quite some time, apparently been mislabeling the city of Earthenwork as the city of Haemil in my game posts :p. As Niyut points out, however, there is an explanation there, so I'm glad to know that I haven't suffered from a long-running brain fart that nobody bothered to helpfully correct me on :D.

Finally, I've been shilling in your new recruitment thread :D. I don't know that I'll submit a character yet, but I'm more than willing than answer any questions that I can.

Earthenwork is the fortress and Haemil is the country. Both are used interchangeably to describe the city.

Cool, thanks.

I've been reading over the Last Haven essence rules, and they look pretty tight. Will those be coming back over to this campaign, or will we continue as we have been so far?

And if they are brought over, do we go through and retcon the relevant essences in our own sheets?

Bright Tower Maps | Last Haven Table #1 Maps | Last Haven Table #2 Maps

No plans to changes this campaign's rules at this point. I like the new, tweaked rules but it is a lot to retcon. We've got these working fine, so I'd say to stay put.

Oh. Well, the big reason is that I'd like to give other players an opportunity to enjoy Valjoen's work. If, toward the the end of the application process, it looks like there's some space left to fill? Then I'll think about putting my own in.

The other reason is that I'm not entirely sure what I want to play. I don't drop a new alias every time a campaign opens up. Instead, I have a small roster of concepts that I find appealing, and I wait until something suitable comes along that would fit one of them. The thing is, of the concepts currently on the bench, they're either already in use--and Marcusic needs to be reset from his Spheres build, and distanced from me mentally before I can give him another go--not available in this campaign, or too close to Garidan in terms of personality and build.

I know it seems weird, but I just can't do the alias bloat that other players seem to revel in.

Now, if I could go ahead and submit the character I'd most want, I'd definitely put forward my kitsune (mostly) oracle. Two-weapon fighter, with a whip and blade combo that uses combat maneuvers to put enemies into bad spots for his allies to take advantage of. He uses a kitsune racial alternate feature for the oracle to gain extra tails, and the backstory is that he messed with something that shouldn't have been messed with, and it cursed him for his trouble. But the curse ran up against his kitsune nature, and a sort of balance was tentatively made; the curse still affects him, but not as badly as it did to start and he can manipulate that bad mojo to a limited extent by either blighting the luck of others, or temporarily suppressing any bad luck on his allies.

HP 56/98 Panache 6/7 Stamina 4/10 | AC 28/18/20); 26/18/18 w/composite bow | energy resist: 2 negative, 5 fire | CMD 30 | Fort +6 Ref +13 Will +5 | Per +16, Darkvision 60 ft. | Init +7 (+9 w/swashbuckler initiative);

Valjoen, I was looking over Garidan's character sheet, and I noticed that the last of his essence boons wasn't completed on your end. He absorbed a life essence from a giant, gaining Combat Stamina as a bonus feat, and a bonus +2 stamina to his pool as the secondary.

However, at that point, you got into a discussion about essences and adding new secondary abilities versus improving existing secondary abilities--and when enough is enough on improving abilities--and you never actually got around to assigning whatever improvements the LE gave to his prior granted benefits. You also never clarified whether or not this essence--being his fourth LE spent on a bonus feat--grants a bonus stat increase.

Bright Tower Maps | Last Haven Table #1 Maps | Last Haven Table #2 Maps

He does get a stat increase for the 4th feat taken. I'll update the other abilities.

Then I'll be increasing Dexterity by +1, which means gains for a whole bunch of stats!

Valjoen, per this comment on Garidan using an essence to modify his rapier's existing bane ability, I'm curious to know if spending an essence in this fashion would count towards the limit (by character level) of essences permitted to weapon abilities. Or would the essence be folded into the one already spent on the base bane effect?

HP 56/98 Panache 6/7 Stamina 4/10 | AC 28/18/20); 26/18/18 w/composite bow | energy resist: 2 negative, 5 fire | CMD 30 | Fort +6 Ref +13 Will +5 | Per +16, Darkvision 60 ft. | Init +7 (+9 w/swashbuckler initiative);

Would it be appropriate to have, on the campaign's site, a bestiary of the monsters that we've encountered and successfully used Knowledge skills on, with the entry specifically noting discovered stats like weaknesses, resistances, and so on? And maybe character-specific relevant details like the DC for Bluff and Intimidate checks?

Safe travels in Mexico! We're just getting into real winter weather here, which I've missed dearly!

Is the idea that as we advance in the campaign, we form a herd of pack animals? :P I feel like there is some supernatural manifest destiny going on here on the apocalyptic Oregan trail.

Honestly, I don't even know why the goat to begin with--I'd honestly meant to send it out with the evacuees to Talanor, likely in trade for something we could use--but at this point we might as well just keep on going with it :D. It'll be one of those weird campaign in-jokes people collect, lol.

Besides, a part of me is profoundly amused by the mental image of this little wild goat--riding on Tacal's body-heated cold-weather outfit with our other assorted crap--sticking with us purely because we have food, warmth, and protection from things.

I suppose, though, if the goat's going to be part of our insane little band, it should get some cold-weather gear and pack tack of its own.

My theory is the pack animals are in actuality vessels for the slain Hazards. In other words, things aren't going so hot!

I think it is because we are lonely and starved for proof of life.

LOL, those are great theories.

Reminds me of this Tweet.

In all honesty, I have some random encounters tables built for many sections of the world. In this case, you guys got a "minor" encounter that was suppose to be just some indigenous animal that wasn't a threat but let you know that some life still existed in this area. I just picked goat out of my head, and you guys went and coaxed it along with some food. So... now its a thing!

@Garidan: I hate dealing with equipment purchases. Is there any way I could induce you to give me a spending list for the other campaign that would be appropriate for a noble woman (high on luxury items and art, low on random useful things)? Please? If not, I'll muddle through.

Not a problem, but the more detail you can give me here, the better I can do that. For example, functional luxury, or pure frippery? Are consumables or limited-use things okay? Anything in the body-modification category (tattoos primarily)? What's the spending limit, how closely do you want to spend down to it, or is a slight overage okay? Does food and drink qualify?

1000 GP. Slight overage is okay. Food and drink qualify. No body modifications. Things like beautiful dresses, painted fans, and jewelry would be perfect. The Ralomenor are very anti-undead, so for practical and historical reasons consumables related to that would be appropriate. No need for additional weapons or armor. Though I guess a beautiful compound bow wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

Not a problem, this'll take me a bit of time though--and I've got the usual run of stuff that absolutely has to be dealt with before, during, and after my time devoted to fun :D--so don't expect this to be ultra-quick.

No need for cold weather gear since resist cold 5 takes care of any natural weather problems.

Okay, so here's a preliminary list for you. I've split items by container, then contents of same, for an easier time tracking what is where. In light of the samuria/monk combo, I've gone for a bit of Asian flavor in the equipment where possible/appropriate.

Armor
Neck Guard; 0.25 lbs. (round to 0.5 for bookkeeping), 10 gp.

Equipment
Signet Ring; - lbs., 5 gp.

Bandolier; - lbs., 5 sp.
8 flasks Holy Water; 8 lbs., 200 gp.

Masterwork Backpack; 4 lbs., 50 gp.
Small Tent; 20 lbs., 10 gp.
Bedroll; 5 lbs., 1 sp.
Winter Blanket; 3 lbs., 5 sp.
Silk Kimono; 5 lbs., 200 gp. Reference is Archive of Nethys.
Jewelry; ?? lbs., 50 gp. Two matching bracelets, one necklace, one diadem (headband version, not crown). All have a distinctly elven motif, lightweight and looking more the product of a spellcrafter's workings than a jeweler's, with flowing lines that almost look like elven script and invite the observer to look closer in an effort to get the lines settled and comprehensible. Nothing malicious about it, however, just a bit of visual trickery. No precious stones, just straight metal in all four pieces.
Caul; - lbs., 50 gp. Made of fine silver wire woven together to produce a delicate mesh that feels more like fabric than metal. No precious stones.
Folding Fan; 1 lb., 25 gp. No such item exists in the mundane equipment lists for PF that I could find. Made of slats of ivory for durability, when unfolded each side reveals a painted image that details a pivotal moment in the history of the Ralomenor (your choice of what those are).
Grooming Kit; 2 lbs., 1 gp.
2 bars Soap; 1 lb., 2 cp.
Mess Kit; 1 lb., 2 sp.
2 Waterskins; 8 lbs., 2 gp.
Ceremonial Tea Set; 5 lbs., 25 gp. Reference is Archive of Nethys.
Tea (high quality); 5 lbs., 4 sp. Couldn't get servings per pound, but 5 pounds should be a good amount.
10 days Elven Trail Rations; 10 lbs., 20 gp.
Masterwork Tools (Craft [weapons]); 5 lbs., 55 gp.
Everburning Torch; 1 lb., 110 gp. I know that this one isn't technically necessary, but I figure reading would be a good bit easier by its light, not to mention the intangible benefit of not being in the dark all the time.
'50 Silk Rope; 5 lbs., 10 gp.

Bag, Waterproof; 0.5 lbs., 5 sp.
I think a bit of reasoning is needed for the following items. The first, the book of War Prayers, feels like the sort of thing that an artistically-minded foe of the undead would have to bolster allies against the morale-sapping presence of the unholy.

The third, mostly for fluff, feels appropriate based on the backstory/intro, in which a book detailing lineage was being read.

And the second book, though it takes some time to read, bolsters the skills used by the former and latter books. It's a minor boost, to be sure, but a bonus is a bonus. Further, I feel that a samurai would be inclined to enjoy a rousing tale of valor as a form of relaxation.

Book of War Prayers; 0.5 lbs., 50 gp.
Tome of Epics; 3 lbs., 50 gp.
Heritage Book; 2 lbs., 50 gp. If you don't mind, I'll make this a part of Mattaracor's series of Knowledge-related books, under the title "Mattaracor's Peerage: A Guide to Bloodlines and Heritage." It is, of course, one of the Traveler's Abridged Editions, cut down to the minimum details needed for ease-of-reference while on the road.
Mattaracor's Compendium Æustëra (Traveler's Abridged Edition) Volume 6: Beasts and Being of the Unspeakable; 1 lb., 50 gp. Might as well :D.

8.5 pounds worn, 88 pounds backpack (Medium Load); 1,025 gp, 2 sp, 2 cp total cost. Might want to double-check this, though, as the numbers kind of blurred together after a bit.

Thanks, Garidan. You are a treasure. I love the call backs. One thing, I hadn't thought of before I saw your accounting is that I need to have a light load or less, if she were to buy a horse, feed, and the appropriate packs where would you make the cuts?

Hmm, horse? Light warhorse, military saddle, 2 saddle bags, bit and bridle, dandy brush, 10 days feed. Drop the everburning torch, neck guard, silk rope, and spend 7 sp. Personal weight goes to 8 pounds worn, 82 pounds pack, and the pack can, of course, be attached to the horse. Also, looking over this list, I realize that I forget the weight (but not cost, since it's free) of the starter outfit. Add whatever your choice is for that to the worn weight.

Further, that pack weight is for full waterskins. Assuming a steady source of that old create water spell, you can drop 8 pounds right there in emptying those (but keeping them around to serve as intermediary containers, say when watering your horse). Heck, just leaving the tent with the horse saves you 20 pounds by itself.

And goodness, who knew that my obsessive juggling of the party supplies would be so handy :D.
