@Truk'tosh - You mentioned getting an AC bonus on the holy symbol. You can get a +1 Deflection and/or a +1 Insight.. or you could get a +1 Luck bonus to AC to stack with your existing AC bonus by using both of your essences. Let me know!

In answer to Valjoen's question, I definitely think we should avoid fights if we can. These giants have numbers, can dish and soak lots of damage, and do that weird ice thing too. A fight could leave us mobbed and dead in short order.

I'd like to fall to back the critter caves, hunker down for a rest period, and tackle this segment at full resources--summons and spells, healing, abilities--and maybe even just try to infiltrate with our sneakiest members to either do what we need to do, or at least get a thorough map of the area and its occupants.

February is going to be a brutal month for me at work, including a big trial. I'm hopeful to get the current battle completed by the end of next week, and then we'll have some RP encounters for the remainder of the month before we finish up this arc of the campaign.

Thoughts on this as a new custom spell? I bumped the spell by 1 from Blood Money but I could also see it being a 3rd level spell.

Blood Sacrifice
School: Necromancy; Level Cleric/Oracle 2
Casting Time: 1 round
Components: V, S
Range: Touch
Target: One willing, helpless, or dying creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: none; Spell Resistance: no

The spilled blood coalesces into a glowing ruby infused with vital energy. This ruby can be substituted for the gold cost of using an item creation feat or alchemical creation.

For a ruby worth 500 GP the target takes 1d6 points of damage + 1 Strength damage. For each additional +500 GP the ruby is worth the Strength damage increases by +1.

These rubies may be attuned during their creation to substitute for a power component for a spell or material component for a Ritual. This attunement requires a successful Knowledge: Arcana check during the casting. The base difficulty of this check is 20 + 1 per level of the Ritual or the highest spell level the power component could effect. Attunement to an especially rare component increases the base difficulty by +5. (Consult your GM.) Blood from creatures who would have an affinity for this component (consult your GM) grant a +2 circumstance bonus to the Knowledge check. The caster cannot attune a ruby created by this spell to a power component or ritual material component if she is unaware of the existence of such a component. Failure in this check renders the ruby inert and the spell wasted. (If there is not a GP value associated with this power component or Ritual material component, consult your GM to determine the damage done to the target of the spell.)

Using rubies created by this spell in a Ritual as substitutes for its components increases the difficulty of all skill checks required by that Ritual by +2.

Rubies created by this spell last for six days before disintegrating in dessicated blood. Creatures immune to strength damage or that do not have blood are not legal targets for this spell. (Vampires are an exception to this rule. They take Charisma damage instead of Strength damage.)

We need a little discussion on the groups plan from here.

As it stands now, Malthazir has suggested taking the river; Garidan has voiced concern going that way and would prefer taking the Mountain Pass before heading to Haemil; and Niyut wants to take the Mountain Pass but divert to the First Lands before Haemil. Truk'tosh? Gruskorb? Or any secondary comments?

We've got as far as we have by sticking together. While Garidan has no problem with the twins--or rather, Niyut with Truk'tosh in tow--heading off to visit home, we should finish what we came here to do first before diverting into sidetrips.

Taking the river would require you going over a waterfall and falling over a hundred feet into the lake in the large cavern that houses many of the ice giants. Leontil doesn't have a boat (and that wouldn't help a bunch after the falls) but he can provide water breathing. This would get you back in the matter of hours as you rode the waves.Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Taking the mountain pass, would require going on foot down the river passage until finding the small tunnel that branches off. It will lead eventually to the mountain pass. At that point, you have the choice, turn south/downhill and return to Haemil which would take 2 marches once you find the pass... or ascend higher into the mountains and look for the pass of Shamat that leads to the First Lands.

Seems to me from the groups statements, that most of you would head at least towards the mountain pass, then make the decision to separate there. Correct?

LOL.. no. Admitted into law practice in KS now. I've been a Missouri attorney for 25 years, and finally got around to being admitted in Kansas. Most of my clients are involved with federal law, so it hasn't been an issue, but having more corporate clients on the Kansas side will help my fir grow.
