Minor Crab-beast

It's not the first 25 hour day that gets you, its the second in a row... at least that's the way for me.

Offshore I often pull some long ones, I think my best so far is 72 hours running with only 12 hours sleep split up in the middle somewhere.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Honestly it wasn't so much the length of time that did me in, it's the fact that the vast majority of it was spent in a tiny box, sitting on an uncomfortable stool under hot lights. (movie making is not as magical as some folks like to believe.)

Today is going much better. I'm actually still in the middle of my second long day, but today most of the shots are either action, or sitting in a comfortable diner.

Minor Crab-beast

Aye - the worst shifts I've had at work are the repetitive or stifling ones. Some are 12 hours of watching the same 15 minute activity over and over and over again. Or being in a wellbay with no air circulation and wellheads at about 150-170F close to you.

That sounds awful.

Minor Crab-beast

Heh - not quite so bad for me seeing as how I'm just supervising most of the time, but you feel for the guys doing the real work.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

@ Doc - can you tell us what movie youre working on?

@ Voiceless - I had to google what a 'wellbay' was and now Im guessing you work on an oilrig?

both jobs sound pretty cool despite the obvious downsides.

Male Human Fighter 4

Hey guys, sorry about my silence the last couple days. I'm going through a bit of a rough patch with my gf and my family, and I'm having trouble summoning creative energy from that. I had hopes to write tonight but another argument has left me feeling drained so hopefully later tongiht I'll be better. Either way I have the next two days off so let's hope I'm feeling up to it in the morning. Just apologizing for crap and explaining my abscence, happy trails.

It's a short film called Box Office Romance. The script and director are good, and if the editing comes together right I expect it to do well at the festivals next year.

Keep your chin up. This too shall pass.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze's Spellbook wishlist:

First Level
Color Spray
Enlarge Person
Feather Fall
Flare Burst
Floating Disc
Jump
Mount
Shocking Grasp
Unerring Weapon

Second Level
Alter Self
Bear's Endurance
Blood Transcription
Bull's Strength
Burning Gaze
Cat's Grace
Elemental Touch
Fire Breath
Spider Climb

Third Level
Blink
Daylight
Displacement
Elemental Aura
Keen Edge
Locate Weakness

Will only go up to level 3 at the moment. Obviously there's a lot of spells here, and I don't need all of them from this one spellbook. If you want to me to reduce the list, let me know and I can easily pick the must haves. This was more of an overall wish list

Also, these are spells from just the Magus spell list and only includes that list from UM and spells from UC. There might be a few more from other books, can't remember. I hope to eventually be able to add some non-Magus spells, but I understand if that's too much.

Finally, I updated my CS to what should be complete. The only thing I left out was one spell, as I wasn't sure if it was ok if I started with Sun Metal or if you would prefer it to be in the found book.

Minor Crab-beast

Cort - echoing Doc's sentiments. If you need to take a break, that's fine - we'll carry your character along for a bit :)

Blaze - book looks ok to me, similarly your starting with Sun Metal.

Sentis - I work an a Petroleum Engineer and occasionally supervise jobs on an oil rig / platform. Mostly pretty mundane, but I get to set things on fire like this occasionally...

Male Human Fighter 4

Nah, I'll be fine, just making sure you guys know if I end up silent for a bit or come across with slow or undescriptive posts.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

@ Cort - family first. Do whatever you gotta do to set things right at home.

@ Doc - working on a movie sounds really cool. Do you ever get to set stuff on fire like Voiceless does at his job?

Sentis Spinis wrote:

Once, yeah, I'm an actor but I do stunt work also so I end up playing characters where semi-dangerous stuff is needed. The last film I did we had to wreck a camp site. One of the shots was of me kicking a braizer over. They said they wanted it to look "explosive" so I basically set my foot under it like I was scooping a soccer ball and snapped my foot forward. The coals and embers erupted into a giant cloud that lit the ground and two canvas tents on fire. Since it was the last shot of the day, and the last shot on that set, the director just let the cameras run before putting it all out, so I got to spend about a minute standing in the middle of the camp while it burned.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

HOLY F#&%*NG B*#@S!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT PIC IS OF VOICE, BUT IT'S F!$%*NG AWESOME!!!!

Minor Crab-beast

Blaze - the photo is of the Evergreen burner heads going though about 5,000 bbl/day worth of oil (about 5 L/sec). Quite pretty to watch and gives you a sunburn at night.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

that has to be brilliant at night.

@ Doc - would we see your work in any other movies?

statting up Baran now.

Male Wolf

Ggrrrr!....

HD = 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (8, 8, 8) + 6 = 30

Baran is complete.

edit - effin sweet rolls!

Male Changeling Fighter 1, Monk 1, Rogue 1, Ranger 1, Actor 5

Voice, I'd just like to tell you that the little "split-party sidequest" thing was really well handled. I've seen it turn into a clusterf$$+ in other games, and you kept things moving and ended it before it dragged on too long. Nice job.

Minor Crab-beast

Trust me Doc, I'm as surprised as you are :)

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

DM
[spoiler]
Still thinking about that split into ranger, I see that being for two levels improving my bow abilities, since darkbiter's natural attacks are "very" melee oriented.

I also considered the falconer archetype...
I hate to add even more animals at this time, but did consider buying a falcon and gauntlet before we go....

Minor Crab-beast

Grusk:
Going into Ranger is ok by me.

And I like the falconer as an archetype, as long as you can keep the bird under control I don't see why not.

Darkbiter:
Since Lucky won't be a true animal companion until next level, just wanted to check on whether you were happy to have him sit out of combat scenarios for now?

And that has reminded me of something. For initiative, to keep things easy I'll be lumping the animal companion in on the owner's initiative count. It will help with combat progression alot and mean that you'll only need to check and post 1/day as opposed to potentially multiple if the actions are split up.

Any concerns or issues with that idea?

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

That's cool with me. I do have two questions reqarding the bear. The first is I just realized that the ranger has a much smaller list of animal choices than druid, and bear is not actually on it. The second is that the stats for a bear animal companion start with the assumption of it being small, which in this case doesn't make a lot of sense.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

I think I will go ahead and just buy a bird, leaving it out of combat completely, till a strong bond is formed and I actually become a falconer. Likely will leave it out of cambat most of the time, I am thinking more of a scout for the scouts........and possibly a spellcaster disrupter........

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Im down with Baran going on my initiative. More reasonable anyways since the way I understand it I have to use the Link to Push him? Not sure if Ill have to roll an Animal Handling roll each time I want him to attack and such?

And I second Doc's assessment of how the plit side line story arcs went and wrapped up at the same time. Great job Voiceless! and my fellow Wolves for staying active.

Minor Crab-beast

Grusk - no probs, go for it. We can assume you bought it yesterday.

Darkbiter - by jove you are right... let me think on it a little (brain is fried right now and needs sleep).

Minor Crab-beast

Sentis - you don't need to 'push' Baran to perform a trick that he knows. So stay, heel, kill - all fine.

I'd only apply handle animal checks when you're trying to:
Get Baran to do a trick he hasn't been taught. (assume that on the trip you can teach as many tricks as his Int can take)
Force him into a fundamentally unsound situation
Help him 'overcome' conditions - eg. if he is frightened by a fear effect, I might give you a chance to override that with a high DC check.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

That helps a bunch. Ill work on the rest of his tricks this evening.

Welcome to my week. I just found out I have 6 weeks to rustle up a new job, which came on top of my brain just being tired in general. It wasn't a super shock as the contract has been up in the air since June, but the challenges associated with having a firm date are not small.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Alright Wolves-

Everyone gets a care package from Doc which includes:

1 tanglefoot bag
1 thunderstone
1 smokestick
1 AntiPlague
1 AntiToxin

I can't remember if I handed out potions already or not. Did I?

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

In addition to the basics,

1st

I also make everyone a shutterable miner's light that takes Sunrods as a light source (later I'll use rocks with Everburning Torch cast on them).

These things are cheap as hell and easy to make (materials cost of a mirror, a spring and a some leather, less than a gold) so I can give everyone more than one if they like.

Doc plans on mounting one on his helmet and one his chest.

Voice, the idea is to use a mirror to focus the light from the sunrod like a Bullseye lantern, which should give us a larger light radius but only in a cone shape. I'm thinking a 60'Cone rather than a 30' radius. How's that sound?

2nd

I'd like to make a harness for Baran and Lucky so that they can carry a couple pouches with potions in them, in case one of us gets injured and is separated from the group. Dark, Sentis, what would you think of that? I don't know how either of you feel about your companions wearing signs of domestication.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

I'd suggest making some of us, particularly the scouts though I will take one if possible, Keen Senses potions.

If you have access to non-Alch spells for potions, I would *love* a few Mage Armor potions.

Other than that, I think I am ok, at least for now.

Ps,
Your CS doesn't have your 3rd level feat, did you never choose one??

Memluk "Blaze" Seljuk wrote:

Yeah, I think I'm missing my teamwork feat too.

I know what I want at 5th level, but at this level I just have no idea. Maybe I'll just go with Two-Weapon Fighting to get more bombs out there. Or maybe Extra Bombs for some fight longevity.
Any thoughts?

Memluk "Blaze" Seljuk wrote:

Good call. Consider it done.

You, Dark and Grusk get Keen Senses.

Memluk "Blaze" Seljuk wrote:

Strangely, I could pull this off. If we get a scroll of Mage Armor (or any other non alch spell), I can turn it into a potion with UMD during the craft check.

I picture this happening by Doc actually dissolving the scroll into some kind of concoction. :)

Minor Crab-beast

Doc - a normal bullseye lantern gives you the 60ft cone anyway, so I have no problems if you want to power by sunrod instead of oil. Hell you can even make it a housing that sits atop the end of the sun-rod giving you an alchemical flashlight if you like?

The idea is to make a hands-free bullseye lantern powered by sunrods.

I'm thinking of making a Mag-Light style club now though. :)

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

@ Blaze - Are you wearing armor? Your AC says = 15 (+4 Dex, +2 Int)which should be 16 right? If you're wearing armor then Mage Armor wont help since Armor bonuses dont stack.

@ Doc - I dont think you handed out potions but you did say that we could each pick 2 and add them to our gear. Sentis will take a CLW and an Identify, thanks.

- as to the potion pouch. I really like the idea and we can definitely put that in effect in the future. But considering that we just freed him from captivity; Sentis is hesitant to put anything that Baran might consider binding on the wolf just yet.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Kensai aren't proficient with armor, so nope. But thanks for the heads up bout my AC, 16 is right.

I thought that might be the case. Maybe after this mission.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

^ Exactly. Plus then he'll know some tricks so I can push him to deliver the potions and other such things.

Male Human Fighter 4

Hey all, I've just finished moving in with my GF today and we won't have internet for at least a week. Any posts I make will be made from my phone and probably won't be very long. Just letting everyone know in advance.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Does Doc have a gun yet? Is that one of the things he built during our down time?

Minor Crab-beast

You indeed have a mighty musket at your disposal.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Is it affected by the rain or the wind? That -4 you mentioned?

Minor Crab-beast

Doc - I'd say yes, as it reflects the difficultly getting an accurate bead given the wind pushing you and the gun around as well. Though you could move forward far enough to get within your first range increment (so attacking touch AC).

No risk of wet powder on shot #1, though would be difficult to reload safely given the rain.

Gotcha, thanks. How far would I have to move?

Minor Crab-beast

A move action from where you are at the start of Round 2 (so bout 20ft move puts you about 40ft away)

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Moot point. Doc is full moving to Dark's side and drawing a potion for next round.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Acid Flasks added to Doc's inventory.

Minor Crab-beast

Doc:
Ever thought about trying to make acidic tanglefoot bags?
Entangle the bad guys and dissolve them at the same time!

Spoiler:
oh yeah. I have quite the list of terrible alchemical combinations to try out, but I wanted to wait for another level or two, to the point that I could legitimately call Doc a master of his craft.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

I coulda sworn at some point we decided on turning this game into an AP of sorts, but I'll be damned if I can find that discussion. Did we in fact make that choice? And if so, which are we playing in??

I'm askin cuz I wanna try to avoid gettin in the same game twice.
