The Warlord |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

The year is 124 After Landing (AL), with tensions running high - King Viserys Targaryen is old and infirm, and followers of the two most powerful women in the Kingdoms have already begun to maneuver themselves for the succession. Queen Alicent, a daughter of House Hightower, has given King Viserys a son and leads the Andal traditionalist faction known as the "Greens". They insist a son of any age should come before a woman.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen leads the opposing "Blacks", named for the striking black gown she worn in 111 AL's tourney, in opposition to the green dress down by Queen Alicent. Rhaenyra is the King's oldest surviving child, born from his first marriage to an Arryn noble.
Players have the option of representing a noble house of the seven kingdoms.
With tensions high, the opportunities for advancement and disaster are high - will you serve the traditionalist Greens, take the side of the Blacks and the eldest daughter, strive for peace or for personal gain? Or perhaps, in the game of thrones they are not players at all but simply pieces...
This is a dangerous time and this will be a dangerous game!
However, particularly dangerous events will be marked in the thread title with an asterisk symbol (*) - these will also restore a spent destiny point: testing your destiny against danger can strengthen it.
The tone will be similar to the novels - stories may have a mature tone and adult language may be deployed. Particularly mature themes/unpleasant events may be alluded to but should be handled off-screen or by a "fade to black" in the scene.
If the events of a story or actions of another character makes a player uncomfortable, please don't hesitate to contact me.
This is a recruitment more than an interest check, I also have House Rules for the purpose of PBP and help run things a bit more smoothly.
I require at least 1 post per day.
I do not accept characters younger than Young Adults and Middle Aged.
You will start in the Riverlands, unless majority of players wish for somewhere else.
Let us create a great House, I need minimum 3 players and no more than 6.

Test Character:
Cassondria is created to be sympathetic towards Rhaenyra, being in a similar position herself.
Not made a character for the system before so feel free to poke holes in it. Left some of the family details vague, can change things up depending on what anyone else wants to play as.

Flaw - Animal Handling
NB: Some area's a vague until a House is worked out.
Broad Concept: Cassondria is eldest child of house XX, and has grown in the knowledge that her younger brother Bertram will take the title of Lord when her father passes away, a fact that she has resented all her life.
A Brief History: Cassondria has spent most of her life shadowing her father, accompanying him on visits to his bannermen and to tourney's and other events in Kings Landing, learning all she can about the political and social arena of house lord, her brother (4 years younger) had less interest in such things, preferring more martial and hunting pursuits, and she's used her breadth of learning to ridicule him on numerous occasions.
Grudge's?: Cassondria has a severe dislike of her brother, and her normally calm, merciful attitude does not apply to him, and she will gladly take any opportunity to rile and disparage him, though she has learned to reign in these impulses in public, so as not to damage the unified appearance of the house.
Friends: Cassondria confides in her maidservant Alia, and trusts her with deepest secrets
Drawbacks/Qualities: A riding accident in her early years has left her with a severe dislike of horses and a lingering suspicion of other animals. She acknowledges their necessity but likes to keep the walls of a carriage between her and the creature where possible.
Cassondria's father is aware that she is a prize, both attractive and savvy to political concerns, he's been delaying making a match for her to try and gain the best possible advantage from it, at least that's what he tells himself, in truth much of his indecision comes from a reluctance to lose her.
Romance? Cassondria is the good noble-daughter and despite many suitors has awaited on her father to decide upon a match. Though quietly inside she rages that she will become a prize upon somebody's arm.

This sounds very interesting but I have questions about the system (I know the world of the novels well.) What system is it? If it's Pathfinder, will you be using mages? Magic was not heavily available in the original world, though we do see some. In Patfhfinder, I tend to play caster types -- bards, oracles, sorcerers, evangelist clerics.
Also what are your creation rules for characters? Deadline for submissions?
Thanks.

AlexM |
I'm not the GM, but from my understanding it's Green Ronin's "Song of Ice and Fire" RPG.
There's no real spellcasters in the system, there's an option to be a Warg or a Greenseer, but no actual spells in the game.
NB: there are Quickstart Rules here to give a taster, but it doesn't include character creation rules.

I have a PDF of this, and would like to give this a try. I've got a couple of character ideas, but they would really depend on the house we create.
The PDF I have lists creation of the house as the first step, and then players create characters based on the available roles in the house - e.g. if a player wants to be the heir to the house, the players have to invest the influence in making sure there's an heir for the house. Do you want us to submit characters before we create the house, or will you select players, make the house, and then have them submit the characters?

Grovo |

I am interested to play. I will be mostly rolling my things up :)
So here goes for nothing.
Age: Adult (26 year) 210exp
Status: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8 Ranking member of household, maester, junior septon, landed knight, noble bastard Picking up Knight position / noble bastard most likely --> Starting status: 4
Role: Fighter/Leader combination at least will try to keep him closer to one of them
Background Events: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 You achieved a significant deed, maybe saving the life of your lord, killed a giant boar, and so on.
Goals: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 Love
Motivations: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 Hatred
Virtues: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 Just
Vices: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 Cruel
Drawback: Nemesis I will tie this up with my Hatred & Cruel motivation/vice

The Warlord |

Status can be rolled or bought with XP at character creation, but it is capped by the House influence, so if your influence says House Lord is max 4, be ready to adjust to that, as that is what will tell you how high you can go in your status, noting that you are not the lord su you are going to be a bit lower than him.
Cassondria looks interesting, she is the "heir" by blood with no direct males surviving to the ill House Lord
Quickstart rules (free pdf) are available here:

Errata:
http://grfiles.game-host.org/gr_files/G ... Errata.pdf
Chapter 5 Errata:
http://grfiles.game-host.org/gr_files/G ... .v.1.1.pdf
I am using the game of Thrones Edition of Green Ronin.
I think you have the past edition Phntm888, but the difference is minimal. You can use those links to help you make characters and the revised chapter 5 (Qualities and Flaws).
Marriage regards, the female has to accept it, so no matter who the father/brother chooses she must be willing to accept it/bribed/forced.
Shall we create the House as to tie your characters backgrounds to it?

The Warlord |

Riverlands
Defense 7d6 - 5 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 2, 5, 6, 3) - 5 = 19
Influence 7d6 - 5 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 1, 3, 4, 2) - 5 = 17
Lands 7d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 1, 5, 2, 6) + 5 = 30
Law 7d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 3, 6, 1, 4) = 23
Population 7d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 3, 4, 1, 4) + 10 = 34
Power 7d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 3, 2, 2, 3) = 19
Wealth 7d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 1, 2, 5, 3) + 5 = 26
You can re-roll a single Resource per player, but you must accept the reroll even if it's worse. I will not roll Influence.
Historical Events
Recent - Faith Militant uprising (Years 41-48 AL) - 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
GM Fiat you get Glory as your first, even, roll the other 3. 1/player good luck.
1.- Glory - +1d6 Defense, +1d6 Influence, +1d6 Law, +1d6 Power
2.-
3.-
4.-
Add your 1d6 to one resource each.
I'll add 1d6 also as there isn't 7 players, then if new players join they can roll the other three or you can finish it yourselves.
7d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 1, 6, 6, 3) = 24 Defense or Power?
As it stand your Maximum Status is 3 for House Lord + children rest is Status 2. You are considered Great Landed Knights, not Minor House yet.

Grovo |

Why not. Will be interesting to see what we get. I do agree that we could create a house.
Marcus is a loyal knight to the house although there float rumours about his cruelty during missions, which he is doing according to the orders from his lord as well his behaviour towards those who have done wrongly against him or his liege. However, no one can deny the fact that he is not fulfilling the laws and acting as he is expected. Doing and expecting the same things from those around and under him, Marcus is striving to be the living example of knight.
How he did become such a person was a long time ago, as he fell in love with a daughter of tavernkeeper Courting and having fun but soon losing it for person, who happened to be under service of another lord. This person happened to be everything he despised , as he himself was during this time a squire for a knight. Dishonest, lying, arrogant... he swore that he would get his revenge. Planning his actions and scheming around, Marcus was able to shame the knight in public and pull his honor down.
But it was too late, since through his enemys action he lost his love, not only that but the innocence he had at somepoint, wondering how something like that could happen. The girl had accepted it all too easily from stranger and jumping on him. As time passed, it was soon just a memory in the past but something had stayed with him from those times. Even today Marcus is doing his best and fulfilling his duties but wondering for something better or someone better than him to forgive him and able to accept him as who is. Whoever she is, she could maybe heal the wounds which his heart still carry from those times

Phntm888 |
Re-roll Influence: 7d6 - 5 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 2, 3, 6, 3) - 5 = 21
I think we rather need that.
Glory Influence Bump: 1d6 ⇒ 6
That should give us a total influence of 27.
Edit: Event Roll
Event: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) = 14
Since my copy is slightly out of date, could you check that event result on your table so we have the right one?

Grovo |

Damn, 14 = Scandal.... we really didnt need that one :S
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4) = 13
...... god, from my Roll Madness. Seems like we got a great start for rolling things up
Scandal = Influence, Lands, Power = -1d6
Madness = Everything +6 - 2d6
Glory = Defense, Influence, Law, Power = +1d6 Iguess need to roll again or keep the result?
@The Warlord -> Please add that 24 to the Defense
EDIT: Added Glory to the list

Phntm888 |
Is 14 still Scandal in the Game of Thrones Edition? It's listed as Scandal in mine, as well, which is why I'm asking, and mine is definitely the older version. I just checked my PDF.
Edit: Warlord, could you repost those links, but not abbreviated? As is, they don't work. I was able to find the errata on the redirect website (freeronin.com), but not the Chapter 5 stuff.
Edit 2: Never mind, finally found it.

Phntm888 |
I'm thinking either bastard Hedge Knight, Master-of-the-Hunt, or maybe a foster from another house. Probably one of the latter two, as we already have 2 knights.
By the way, Grovo, Green Ronin published both the original version, which I have, and the Game of Thrones edition, which is the newer one. Does yours say "Game of Thrones Edition" on it?

Vitaliano da Riva |

Let's see, Young Adult shall be where I start.
Status: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 maester/noble bastard should be fine if we can have two maesters. 4
I think I shall go Schemer/Rogue for my role. Sounds fun.
Background event: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 Villainous Scandal
Goals: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 Love
Motivation: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8 Lust
Virtue: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 Courageous
Vice: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 Cruel
I feel I might be playing Tywinn in a manner.

The Warlord |

No 14 is not scandal, that changed
14 is Victory in the Game of Thrones edition
10 is Decline in the GoT edition.
Events
Glory +1d6 Defense, +1d6 Influence, +1d6 Law, +1d6 Power
Decline -1d6 Influence, -1d6 Lands, -1d6, Power, -1d6 Wealth
3.- Event ???
Victory +1d6 Defense, +1d6 Influence, +1d6 Power
House Resources
Defense 24
Influence 27 -3 =24
Lands 30 -3 = 28
Law 23 +3 = 26
Population 34
Power 31 -2 = 29
Wealth 27 -2 =25
Roll all Events, not just one of them, you get all those bonuses and penalties for that event, not just pick one and roll it. SO I will make Daniel roll to Wealth his personal roll and someone roll the events, 1d6 for each resource increase or penalty, we still missing 1 event.
Events under 11 are bad, 11+ are good in GoT edition.
I'll do Decline as an example, I suppose.
Influence: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Lands: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Power: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Wealth: 1d6 ⇒ 2
GM +1d6 Add Law: 1d6 ⇒ 3
PC +1d6
Daniel Steward +6 Wealth
Phntm888 +6 Influence
GM +3 Law

Phntm888 |
Victory Event Rolls
Defense: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Influence: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Power: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Defense: 24+6=29
Influence: 24+2=26
Power: 29+1=30
Vitaliano, Defense has already been rerolled, as have Power and Influence. We have to accept the result of the reroll, even if it's worse than the original. I don't think you have to reroll if you don't want to.
The Warlord, Grovo rolled a 13 for the final event.

The Warlord |

13 - Favor +1d6 Influence, +1d6 Land, +1d6 Law, +1d6 Power
Vitaliano da Riva
You can re-roll Law, since Defense was already re-rolled.
You get to add +1d6 to a resource except:
Influence, Law, and Wealth.
House Resources
Defense 29
Influence 26
Lands 28
Law 26
Population 34
Power 30
Wealth 25
Events Added: Victory and Decline.
Missing Glory and Favor

Vitaliano da Riva |

Ah, hmm The other player wanted to be heir and I don't really wanna step in their roll. What else could there be, I have drawn up a fairly political like character.
Agility 3
Animal Handling 2
Athletics 2
Awareness 3
Cunning 3
Deception 4
Endurance 3
Fighting 2
Healing 2
Language 2
Knowledge 2
Marksmanship 2
Persuasion 5 1BCharm, 2B Seduce, 1B Decieve
Status 3
Stealth 3 2B Sneak
Survival 2
Thievery 3
Warfare 2
Will 3
5 destiny points, max benefit 3
Blood of Valyria 1
Charismatic 1
Magnetic 1

The Warlord |

You can always be another member of the House family, like a cousin of the dead uncle or your uncle simply serves under another House as part of their Household knights.
Blood of Valyria is not easy to thing to mix into the story, but it would make your House very Targaryen like as one of the many smaller knights that came with them, after all your House saw founding 40 years after the Conquest and is plausible if someone wishes to wrap up the House History of how they gained the right to make their own House and the events.
This makes it that you have 1 ancestor knight, the Current lord one of his two sons, the Eldest and Heir is the Sickly Current lord.
Ideas for the House name, sigil and motto?

The Warlord |

Yup, but you are from the Riverlands and Andal law applies, so unless the younger brother dies, she can't be the Heir.
That does not prevent her from taking reign of politics, but in the end she can't make any deals as she doesn't represent her House, only The Lord and male heir. She can always maneuver the pieces to her benefits and have deals done that way.
So this would be an inner House conflict were your PC life is in constant danger and she undermines you social and politically at every turn, while you try to do the same to her, but in do in so, your House standing is not good and makes her also look problematic to marry off unless it's a minor house in need or a knightly House, which will take her for the influence it brings.
Yet you are a "Small" Minor House that just stopped being a Knightly House or the Declin History brought you lower than expected, once you hit 31-40 Influence you will be among the real Minor Houses.
