I'd be highly interested in this!

Was hoping to play it via tabletop but where I live there's only one local GM and he isn't bothered about running things right now, so I'd like to submit Captain Cortez (he's not a captain yet, but will have the skills necessary to become one) - Ranger (Skirmisher) who boosts allies and has no intention of getting an animal companion.

I see there's already a Ranger above, but if you like the sound of this, I'll get my character up and built by the end of today (my time - this post is currently being posted at 4.20am). :)

What I have so far:

Traits: Pirate (+1 geography, +1 Sailor profession: Class Skill), Buccaneer’s Blood (Campaign)

Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 12
Wis: 14
Int: 10
Cha: 15 (+2 Race)

Heart of the Wilderness: +5 Fort to stabilise, half level on survival and con checks to determine death – Maybe. That or Dual Talented human to bolster Dex slightly.

Skills:

Climb
Knowledge Geography
Knowledge Nature
Perception
Survival
Swim

Feats:

Sea legs?
Intimidating Prowess - When he has a name for himself

Edit: Apart from the Captain role (high Charisma on my build), it looks like Reijo's already filled this role. Ah well. :/

@Apollo: As mentioned, we currently have four players, but I haven't heard back from one of them in a bit. We also had two other players mention interest.

I can add you to the list in case of no shows and drop outs, but it seems like everyone wants to be ranger these days xD

Haha, yea. I originally wanted to be anything but a Ranger, but the idea of not being able to cast spells, yet becoming a prominent figure and holding my own as a good leader while boosting my crew's abilities seemed like a great idea.

If there's more than one ship, having two captain's wouldn't be an issue and then there's leadership, which is heavily frowned upon by all, yet would work wonders to give everyone a crew. :p

All that needs ruling is "They don't always follow you around, but they do as you command while on or off your vessel".

Plus you can always recruit more scallywags if your NPC crew members die. :p

Also, does anyone mind if I prepare additional material to flesh out the adventures? A lot of the Shackles get no visits but there's so many cool things to add in and see.

I'd love to add a few subplots in and perhaps modify the ending as I feel it falls a little flat to be honest. Also, if we're still here at that time, I'd love to pursue this past 17th level.

Additional material and subplots sounds awesome to me, Mabuu. I defer to your creativity and judgment... I prefer the idea, in fact, to a straightforward cookie-cutter approach. :)

Streamlining, definitely a good idea if we're to complete anything. And yes, ditto on wanting to play more, but more than 2 posts per day would probably prove too difficult for me as well.

...

Apollo, sorry! I was bumped in a previous attempt to get in on a S&S game here, but everyone gets their turn sooner or later. I like playing spell-less rangers as a general rule of thumb (unless they're elves, perhaps), and love the tricks rangers get with the Skirmisher archetype.

@Reijo: Perfect! Pirate Lore has so much to it, I feel it would be a shame to miss out on some perfectly good legends and such.

Still just waiting for a word from Utho and for Vaite to finish his character. He may be going Magus in the end. Poor lad doesn't quite know what to take.

If ye guys be neeedin' another lad as backup, I'll be up for it. The one I'm playing as a druid in (This character) seems to have fallen apart.. DM's been a no-show for a while now.

I can make a character to fit any role needed (And I have no interest in a Ranger, which seems to be popular here!), so just hollar :P

Liberty's Edge

Well, real life handed me a steamy pile of extra stuff to take care of, so I am going to have to back out of this.

Sorry for the late notice, but you have some other folks interested, hopefully, they want to heal some.

Well, if next up is me (Dak) then here is my cleric.

@Bohd: Thanks mate, I'll add you to the list. Man, it's getting longer every day isn't it?

@Forthepie: Sorry to hear that mate. Good luck!

@Dak: Yep, you were up next so welcome to the crew Jagray.

However, it's been two days and no word from Utho so if he doesn't post by tonight there'll have to be changes to the team again. My other player had already made a Rogue (Pirate) so if Utho doesn't pop up he'll take his place.

That'll leave a slot open and the next on the list after Dak would be Apollo. However, as you probably saw Apollo we already have a Ranger and I have a preference for no double-classing. Is there any other class you'd like to play as?

Glad to join the crew! As a side note if Apollo comes in and wants to go cleric or other divine caster I can roll up an arcane type instead. Maybe a sorc or magus.

@Jagray: Great to have you. Still waiting for confirmation from the others.

Dak here, this one is in case we need an arcane caster instead of my cleric.

Ah, no it's okay Mabuu. I did really want to play this and originally considered a Magus, but I've got an Urban Barbarian I want to play for Curse of the Crimson Throne, and so don't want to play as A Barbarian or Fighter in this, and Rogue's I'm not too worried about.

I tend to make characters specifically for each AP.

I have a Noble Charm Cleric who wants to be King in Kingmaker, a Dino Riding Ranger in Legacy of Fire, a sweet, innocent (not really, she plays on her looks) combat shy Aasimar Rogue Burglar in Shattered Star, and my Ranger for this (although slightly different to the other Skirmisher) was going to become a Pirate Captain.

How I was going to play it was by using the standard Ranger Hunter's Bond ability to boost allies, while using the Skirmisher abilities which I've never used before. He has 15 Charisma, so would probably make for a good Captain, but Reijo seemingly wants to be Captain (regardless of the fact it will be hard to get any followers without Charisma lol).

So if you don't double class, which is fair enough, there's no spot for me here.

@Apollo: Then good luck with your other campaigns mate! Sorry about all this!

Then that means the vacant position then passes on to Bohd Stormcaller. As mentioned, we've got the following at the moment:

- Reijo Ilvonen: Ranger (Freebooter/Skirmisher)
- Jagray Hamfur (Cleric) OR Celia Beltriece (Sorcerer)
- Vaite Wynne: Rogue (Pirate)

You're welcome to keep your Druid or choose any other class, preferably not one already taken.

Dak, feel free to play Jagray or Celia. Both fit right in.

@Utho: Sorry mate but I've got a lot of stuff on my hand and I don't have much time to wait, what with a few new games starting and work so you'll have to be added to the Waiting List

Haha, yea it sucks because it's unfortunate someone else had the same idea as me for once (almost exactly), but enjoy!

Bohd's main account here! I'm actually kind of itching for an arcane class, since Dak is willing to go either way.

Not entirely sure *Which* one.. but I have a few ideas up my sleeve.. a few questions in the mean time!

1: Firearms - How common will Firearms be in this campaign? I know they're not really used in the base S&S game, but I'm curious on how you'll be handling them.

2: If I pick a Familiar, will I just have it go on the same initiative turn as mine? I'm not someone who lets my familiar go into obscurity. I use the bugger! Same question for my Eidolon, if I go that route.

3: Will you be allowing the Downtime rules in Ultimate Campaign? Depending on what I go, I might want to set up some kind of port-side company of some sorts.

4: On that same note, will you be allowing Retraining from Ultimate Campaign, given the time and money?

And that be all for now.. I'll be working on ideas in the mean time.

1) I like firearms. Unless every other player says NO, I plan on having ships use cannons (ballistae are boring) and guns could either be emerging or commonplace depending on preferences.

2) They'd use their own Initiative. That's why they have one eh?

3) I am planning on using Ultimate Campaign so I'm glad you ask. It fits into the sub plot I'm adding in to the game to tie in the last adventure, post campaign, etc. Essentially it has to do with pirate legends and awesome treasure.

4) Maybe. I still haven't finished reading it all up, but I think it's fine so I'm leaning more towards the yes.

I'd like to start within the next few days so let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Most people don't even use their familiars, so I just wanted to ask to see what you, as the DM, would say on it. To keep it simple, I'll just have him skip a turn if necessary to align his initiatve with mine, to make it simple on everyone else. Sounds good with everything else though!

I'll try to have the character up ASAP.

*Edit*: Oh also, are you allowing us to take a Drawback for an additional trait?

Yes for the Drawback. But just one.

Hi, I'm just wondering, this is a PbP game or via skype/hangout?

@Quatar: PbP game but we've already got all our players.

Alright Mabuu, still working on the specifics, but heres what I have so far:

CN Chelish Human Summoner (Master Summoner Archetype)

I like Summoner, but Master Summoner has one of the most amazing combat-lag abilities ever, in the sense that it has the tendency to slow down gameplay incredibly.

If you think you can manage it and make it so it isn't a drain on me, I'm fine with it.

I'm cool with firearms and canons. I'm not strongly against "commonplace," but my personal taste leans towards "emerging" for a fantasy setting. In fact, I have had in the back of my mind that I just might take a Gunslinger level if and when they show up.

Mabuu "Blackheart" Balvaire wrote:

Agreed, looking forward to starting. :)

I can manage it, and I'll do everything I can to make you do as little work as possible. All of my summon's turns will go at the same time as my Summoner. I'll usually have my Eidolon out, so in most cases I'll be limited to only a single summon.

Worry not, I won't allow it to slow down the game! I mean controlling 3 things (Summoner, Eidolon, and Summon) is nothing compared to the time I DM'd a battle between about 24 individiual characters, 6 of whom were players, and one had an Eidolon. This was done in a single IRL session. It was nuts, but awesome.

In the quite possible case of my Eidolon getting killed (He'll be more of a skill monkey than a combat type), I'll try to limit my summons to a reasonable level. No blowing my ~8-9 Summon Monster abilities in one fight! XD

@Crustypeanut: All well and good then!

@Reijo: Emerging also fits my personal taste.

(Reijo's true form here)

@Crustypeanut, I am reminded of a time I played a druid in a 3.5 game many years ago, before my group had many of the rules down pat. I misused Wild Empathy to befriend and make allies of every animal we came across, it seemed: a pack of wolves, a bear, a few leopards, I think I even managed to befriend a grey renderer, plus my viper companion. My animal menagerie took a bit of time for me to manage every turn. I used to like summoning nature's allies a lot in combat too, on top of that. My poor DM, lol. I wound up taking a hint from Yahtzee and rolled all my d20's at one time in a cup.

@Kartari: Cutest pig ever.

And as long as everything is managed easily, we'll be fine.

How is everyone on starting on Thu-Fri?

Works for me, I'll definitely be done by then.

well crap. missed this cause of my fathers day stuff :(

Utho, I don't mind backing out to be a backup in case you want back in. You were here first, afterall! :D

Liberty's Edge

I appreciate the offer, if mabuu will take it also. I should mention I can only post once per day until Thursday... at least that's what I can promise...

@Utho: Oh well there you are. All right then, you're in the crew. I think I can manage a team of five.

However, do you think you'd be willing to switch class? When we thought you weren't coming my friend wrote up a Rogue (Pirate) to compliment the team.

If you prefer staying Rogue though I'll understand, and we'll try to make do with two.

I can switch... what do we need?

I would like to do alchemist, cleric, or ranger... or whatver needs we have. lemme know and ill have a character up sometime tomorrow night... we are starting Thursday right?

@Mabuu: Thursday or Friday works for me. Yeah, I love this pig, seems a bit evilish too with the shadows, I think he's making evil plans while everyone thinks he's a harmless cute pig, lol.

@Krash - Glad to see you weren't left ashore. :)

An alchemist can fit into the group quite well in my opinion. You can still go with a Vivisectionist if you seek to have sneak attacks!

I'm actually kind of tipping towards Wizard now.. been working on the summoner and its not coming out quite the way I wanted it. Might go Wizard/Gunslinger/Eldrich Knight instead. I'll be done before thursday though!

Yep, we're starting Thursday.

@Utho: Alchemist sounds pretty good.

@Crustypeanut: That sounds actually super cool. I've never seen an Eldritch Knight gunslinger so I'd love to see that!

Would you be against me taking a firearm as my bonded item by chance? Nothing fancy, just a pistol - though I could certainly make it work with a familiar as well.

@crustypeanut: RAW says that's fine so sure, you now have a pistol. But you won't have proficiency in it right away unless you take the feat no?

Aye, I'll be taking a level of Gunslinger at level 2, so I'll be haphazardly shooting it until then.

Hey guys, just dotting in. By the way Utho, thanks for switching class much apreciated

Lol! Love it. I shall endeavor to duck whenever I see you draw.

Liberty's Edge

no problem :) I love Alchemists!

Perfect!

We begin Thursday lads!

Sounds good!

Alchemists are awesome indeed! I'm planning on playing one in a Dwarf Fortress campaign my other DM is working on. A Dwarven Vivisectionist Alchemist, to the theme of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Dr. Logem, Ph.Dwarf!

Since that campaign will be revovling around Ultimate Campaign in Arcadia, I'm planning on building a hospital and support buildings (Cloth making, soap making, medicine making, etc). I'll be secretly experimenting on dwarves though. :P

Man I can't wait for that campaign..

Sounds special indeed.

Especially since the dwarf I made similar to that one in a Dwarf Fortress game I was playing, lived in a fortress called 'Specialsurprise'.

Anyways, I'll have my character up shortly, though his background might not be done till tomorrow. The stats'll be there though.
