About Vaite Wynne

Vaite Wynne

Background:

Vaite Wynne is an only child born of the union between his human father Jonathan Wynne and his elf mother Idril Swiftsure. Jonathan was once mercenary for hire aboard merchant ships but after having met Idril, a young healer, in Neruma during one of his contracts they fell in love and settled down in this busy trading town. Jonathan made his life by joining the Steel Cordage and Idril put her knowledge of plants to use and opened a healers shop on the first floor of their home. Vaite spent his early childhood very close to his mother who brought out his love of the ocean and taught him to swim. However he quickly developed an affinity for combat which his father happily helped feed. Vaite practiced often with his father’s prized short sword during this time and was an avid learner.

However at the age of 9 both parents were murdered in their very own home. A wealthy merchant had had his cargo confiscated by Jonathan when he did not pay the docking fees and in the Shackles, when you have the means no hated face is forgotten or left unpunished. A dagger thrown in his back killed Jonathan quickly, but Idril suffered many a torture at the hands of the men before dying. However Vaite escaped detection, and after the killers had finished their business he quickly fled his home, taking his father’s short sword with him.

Traumatized by the death of his parents and alone in a city where orphans do not stay free for long, Vaite was forced to learn how to watch his back and learn fast. Living on the streets forced him to change from the loved and cherished would be warrior to a hardened and solitary youth. During the next 7 years Vaite relied solely on himself, learning to live of meager supplies in a hostile environment. Always trying to avoid a fight with a quick tongue, Vaite was never shy to fall back on his father’s cherished blade and superior agility when it became obvious trouble could not be avoided. The trauma of his parent’s death also pushed him to obsess over his personal safety and he never spent more than a few hours of sleep without his makeshift armor. Then at the age of 16 Vaite met a ship’s captain by the name of Abel Caspard and managed to be enrolled as a cabin boy and leave his hated birthplace.

Over the next few years, Vaite grew in to full adulthood and never stopped practicing the craft his father taught him, expanding his knowledge to the use of ship mounted weapons as well as hand to hand combat. During his many voyages aboard ships, he learned the art of the throwing knife as a means to defend against men like his father’s assassins and never lost his more introverted view on life, preferring to favor his personal interests over other’s. The only exceptions to this rule are young orphans for whom he feels deep connection and tries to help whenever possible. He has now arrived in Port Peril after a difficult sea voyage but with a nice pay in his pocket and plans for relaxation with drink and fine company…
