Na, this is great, fastest the campaign has gone in a while and we are all around. Plus, as we are at the end of summer, most of my other campaigns are going pretty slow right now.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
Honestly not much. From a world building perspective mostly just selling folks on the idea of doing business with Kelemerane. I suppose I could check in at the temple of Abadar to see what they wanted but I wouldn't want to lead them on if we are unsure about our next steps. I don't have the capital to take Simin/Sholeh to the next level.
I'm a bit at a loss of what to do with Radi...I think at the end of the day his unwillingness to sit down and shut up makes it clear I can't "take him under my wing" in any sort of way without a fear of him doing something silly. Amir has a soft spot for the street urchin type but I think him not listening this last time marks him as a liability. I assume you would all agree? Any thoughts on that?
Sheik Voodoo |
I'm gonna be out camping most of this week so in the meanwhile you all can think about what you want to do.
The road reopening mission for the Abadarians is kinda on hold with Karethas tethered to Rayhan.
This could be a good time for Amir to pursue the PFS and maybe get a little more information about the road to be reopened. and there's the Radi question.
I don't know if Varkata just wants to join him or if she has any side interests to develop over say the next three days.
Varkata Steeleye |
Other than having weird dreams and being delighted to have found a fellow Caileanite, Varkata's not got much to do in the big city....
However, if left to her own devices, she'd likely go check in on Grunyar's business to see what's become of it (if anything) with his death...
However, if Amir wanted some help in dealing with the Radi issue, she'd be more than willing to help... and prepare hold person, command, silence and zone of truth to confront him... Or, if we really want to ensure really learns his lesson, visions of hell or bestow curse.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
YEah I think we need to scoop Radi up and put the fear into him. Zone of Truth him and grill him to make sure that he is just an overly eager ass or a spy for one of the various players that want our stuff.
I agree that other than Karethas the rest of us should stick together. We can help Kzrira, scoop up Radi and play "twenty questions" and then move on to the PFS/new road if Karethas is not ready yet.
Karethas ibn Faradin |
I'm still keeping up with the campaign. Don't feel it's necessary to keep me involved in this next little bit, I understand that the story has me separated for a little while.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
anyone got the old 3.5 Osirion companion? I swear there was a dwarf druid NPC on there, but I got rid of my copy.
I do but no dwarf druid that I can find...

Sheik Voodoo wrote:anyone got the old 3.5 Osirion companion? I swear there was a dwarf druid NPC on there, but I got rid of my copy.I do but no dwarf druid that I can find...
hmmmmm, there isn't a desert dwarf wanderer written up at the back of the book? maybe not a druid. I might be misremembering.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
Only stattd up NPC at end of book is Khemet III and a search for "dwarf" through the pdf brings up only one hit in reference to something dwarven.
There are many dwarves in "Dark Markets", none druids although there is a human druid at the docks (level 5 human) in that book.
Of course I find a couple druids in the newer Osirion book but not in Katapesh (although there is a stated up "desert hermit" entry just plain human though towards the end of the book...)
Sheik Voodoo |
pfft! yeah, I did remember Khemet III at the back... I think he's been revised since though- was he listed as a cleric 15 of Abadar then? I think Nethys would be far more likely seeing as Abadar is a foreign god...
Thanks for looking. It's really not important. I just try to use random drop-ins from published stuff. I can totally see the page and layout for the NPC, but don't remember where I saw it. I'm thinking 3.5 Paizo days, but the LoF had Lucky Farouq in the back and I can't think where else it would be...
it will just annoy me for a while. I might see if I can find his mugshot in the alias icons : )
Thanks again for looking.

Side note: Away at a wedding for the weekend, out of contact 'til Monday.

Does anyone know whether the Armor Check Penalty reduction for masterwork is included in the -3 from mithril? I am unsure whether my reduction should be -4 (-3 mithril, -1 fighter armor training), or -5 (mithril, armor training AND -1 masterwork). The info on Mithril is oddly worded. It specifies that the "cost" of the masterwork is included in the mithril cost, but does not make any mention as to whether the -3 from mithril is in addition to the -1 from masterwork, or inclusive of this.
At -4, Kzrira would have a -1 armor check penalty. At -5, she would have no armor check penalty.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
I've always thought it was weird circular logic Everything that is mithral is -3 ACP, Everything that is Mithral is masterwork, ergo its ACP mod is -3 total. It doesn't lay it out well but Mithril Full Plate of Speed has an ACP of 3 so that would be consistent with the MW benefit being included.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Makes sense. This is the problem when a lawyer reads rules written by non-lawyers. I was using the "inclusion of one denotes the exclusion of others" mantra. I was going off of the fact they mentioned the inclusion of the cost, and did not reference the max Dex or armor check, to infer than this was not included in the numbers listed for mithril.
On the other hand, based on the items as noted by Amir, I guess that it seems they are including the masterwork (-1) in the mithril (-3).
Oh well, worth asking about and hoping for a good answer. Although since I am only at -1 to me armor check, it is not that bad.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Hmm - not sure if I completely missed something somewhere, but I have 5400 gold listed. Originally I had planned on getting the bow +1 with Bane(outsider), but I do not think that the latter was available (or we decided against it).
@DM VooDoo - is it possible that Kzrira could have purchased a Belt of Dex +2 for 4k while in Katapesh? It is possible that my accounting is way off, but with the sale of the old armor, trading the Tempest bow to Karethas, and the loot we got, it might be right.
Varkata Steeleye |
The -3 is inclusive of the masterwork (by virtue of the "is automatically masterwork"), to the best of my understanding.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
You do actually have that much. When we talked about what bonuses we were adding to your bow I think we were looking at your share of the loot, not counting what you actually already had on your person. Which is silly in hindsight...it probably means you can pay me back :p But we will worry about that part later. Ya know, after interest ;)
Kzrira Maiwith |
If my recollection is correct, I got the chainmail +3 and 4800 gold. I already had 2400 on my character sheet. The MW bow + enchantment should be 2600, leaving me with 4600. Not sure what else money was spent on. I am sure that I missed something. I thought that the resurrection and restoration were out of party funds, but could be wrong on that. I would have also sold the +1 Agile Breastplate for another 875. Thus, if I had purchased the +2 Belt, I should have had 1475 left, which I could have used to pay back anyone I owed money too.
Perhaps I should start keeping a full running tally of money spent/received just like I do with feats and favored class bonuses. At least it would keep me somewhat organized.
Varkata Steeleye |
They were -- the resurrection and restoration, that is.
Sheik Voodoo |
The -3 is inclusive of the masterwork (by virtue of the "is automatically masterwork"), to the best of my understanding.
that's right.
as for loot... I believe that is correct as well. Kzrira was saving the balance for the bane enhancement which is pretty specialized and would just take more time to find or get customized. If you want to punt and just grab a belt +2 dex, those would be fairly common and easily found. I'll hand wave that.
btw I was reading up on crafting magic items and in regards to the adaptive ability, someone without the prerequisite spell could still craft it at a higher DC. so druid not necessarily required.
Varkata Steeleye |
IF we don't, we certainly will tonight. ;) Rather wish we had a nice "Hide Campsite" or "Rope Trick" today.
Wonder if the flying kitty would watch over us? :)
Kzrira Maiwith |
Moving this discussion over to the OOC.
@ Voodoo - I have some skill in craft (weapons) (+6). Would I be able to use any silver coins that I have and a hot fire and be able to add a silver layer to Amir and Varkata's weapons? Karethas might be able to summon a fire elemental to help with the heat necessary to melt the silver.
Varkata Steeleye |
I could also summon elementals to make sure you don't run out... Sadly, there's no way to summon an Azer, and clerics don't get versatile weapon.
If we're taking a few days to graft silver onto weapons (i would think driving arrowheads into a club to make a silver morningstar might be easiest)... Then it might be worth making some scrolls while the ranger works. (Lesser Restoration, for one, since I don't get Death Ward until 7th)
In terms of other useful spells, I could lose bless for Hide from Undead, but they get a will save, and I'm much more a combat cleric than a caster one (DC 15 isn't hard to get over).
Consecrate would penalize them like prayer and make channeling harder to resist... But I've got a limited number of channels and they haven't harmed undead while healing us since the playtest.
Holy ice weapon could be useful... assuming I can find enough silver to cast it... And I could ward our camp with a symbol of healing.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Silverlight and Heart of Metal are both interesting, although I do not think that anyone has the later spell since is is a wizard spell and I doubt Karethas has picked it up yet.
Sheik Voodoo |
Would it be possible for Karethas and Varkata to scribe a few scrolls on the road (well, during camping.. using the rules for such)
Scrolls valued < 250 gp only take 2 hrs to scribe so I'll allow 1st and 2nd level spells to be made on the road. Third or higher take a whole day and would preclude travel.
Varkata Steeleye |
Maybe we can ask the giant kitty to watch the horses?
Lesser Restoration in level 2 -- as is Consecrate.
Assuming Karethas is willing to work with Varkata on those, since he's the one with the feat, she'd just be providing the spell.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Ok, bought 100 silver arrows and 100 blunt arrows. Most of these will be stored in a bag of holding, just keeping 2 quivers of each in the Efficient Quiver.
Kzrira Maiwith |
We might want to check in with the priest at the temple and let him know what we met as a greeting party. They might have potions or restoration or something else useful against vampires and other assorted cursed undead.
Varkata Steeleye |
An excellent idea -- especially since they're the ones sending us out.
Varkata Steeleye |
Also, apologies for the OOC in the game thread.
In terms of the GM's question -- Considering the wide talk of the artefact and the likelihood of a welcoming committee, I'm thinking we might want to stay somewhere other than our usual this time -- especially since we're only staying 1 or 2 nights. I'm assuming Jerikal's Ales was just a taproom with no inn (though I do wonder if it's worth asking him about a room anyway...)
In terms of stops, I think we'll definitely hit the Immaculate Repository (aka, Temple of the Vault) as well as the market -- not sure if it's worth checking in with the Masster of the Academy
Cap'n Voodoo |
Sorry if my request to use the discussion thread was grumpy- it just helps the GM with story continuity if the flow isn't interrupted by a half-dozen posts of side conversation. I've been bad about responding to ooc in game as well.
How much do silver tip arrows cost? Normal is 1gp/20. Alchemical Silver adds 2gp to ammunition. Is it 3gp/20 arrows or 41gp/20 arrows? I plan on buying 100 silver arrows.
I'd always assumed the former... but the 41 makes more sense now that I think about it. Silver blanch would be the better option in this case.
SO:
Kzrira- 100 arrows and silver blanch
Karethas and Varkata- scribe 2 consecrate and 2 lesser restoration?
Varkata- alch silver weapon
Party- possible holy water, potions?
Karethas ibn Faradin |
I can scribe the Lesser Restoration myself because I have it as a spell as a boon. It was more useful to have before we got a cleric in the party :-).
Varkata Steeleye |
That also works.
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Also, we have 2 potions of lesser restoration from prior adventures. (I have a list of party loot on my character sheet if anyone is interested)
Varkata-Searing light is going to be memorized, yes? Should we get a couple of those on a scroll that Amir can use?
Varkata Steeleye |
Yes, much searing light.. Will lose prayer and dispel magic. Not sure if Holy ice weapon asked me to bypass DR (the holy water part yes, but the weapon part, less sure).
Still surprised clerics don't get disrupt undead as an orison.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
I want to put my foot through the Internet, *grumble grumble*
Would it be worth me buying a silver short sword? They aren't that expensive and I only would lose +1 to hit?
Any spells that folks thing I should try UMD with are game as far as I'm concerned. If I should carry a wand of CLW or something else I an do that too... I could always get a wand of Disrupt Undead?
We should either camp on the outskirts or find somewhere low profile. I am all for the Taproom, they might be willing to give us a floor or if things have moved enough on the scroll we can just wrap that up and get it over with before we leave. Immortl vampires can wait a week and if we see a big payday that changes the calculus on what we take with us...
Varkata Steeleye |
A wand of disrupt might be very useful. Touch attack, after all and bypasses DR
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Voodoo, sir! I am up late, drunk watching Dane Cook on Showtime. I thought you were on EST too. If you are, then you are on this site too late :-).
