Here is the new discussion thread. Build rules are in a spoiler below. As I mentioned in the other discussion thread I won't be on much after 4 PM CST today. For those of you who have characters done and want to role play a little I will throw up the start of the adventure in the game play thread.
-Characters are level 1
-Average starting wealth(found on page 140 of the core rule book)
-Classes from Core(if your new to pathfinder try to stick to just this), Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate magic, Advanced Class Guide, and Ultimate Combat are acceptable.
-Archetypes from Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate magic, Advanced Class Guide, and Ultimate Combat are acceptable.
-Standard races(those found on pages 21-27 of the core rule book) would be preferred. If you want to play something unusual(from the advanced race guide) I may allow it based on background and strength of argument for why this race should be allowed.
-NO third party publishing sources allowed
-Race traits, feats, magic items, and alternate class features from the Advanced Race Guide are allowed but you CAN NOT build your own custom race.
-2 traits one of which has to be a campaign trait from the players guide.
-You can either keep the rolls you had in the other thread or use 20 point buy(as explained on page 16 of the core rule book).
For easy reference I suggest using this. It has all the rules from the books I'm allowing and more so be sure the options your taking are from the allowed list of books.

@DM Mathpro: Thanks for the character creation guidelines and good luck with the family-in-law. And I totally understand the need to chill out after they leave. Since my wife and I leave close to her parents, we don't have them over for longer than a meal but that already takes quite a bit of energy to organize... :D
@Bes: So far, it seems like we have a monk and a rogue. If the reason you chose a wizard was to not be redundant with Clarence's cleric, by all means create a druid now! I admit I'd rather play a half-orc melee character as I've never played anything of the sort, but as I said I can play an elf druid as well.
@Clarence: I made up "Jnor" when I was a teen undergoing a Viking-fan period. It's somewhat derived from my first name. No inspiration from the books you mention. ;)

Viking the civilization not the terrible football team from Minnesota I hope.
And yes thankfully my mother in law lives 8.5 hours away so she doesn't come over often but when she does its for LONG visits...and she always dictates the dates. This last time we were up there visiting the week before easter and she told us "I'm coming for Easter and staying for a week"...had we known she was coming for Easter we wouldn't have spent the 17 hours in the car visiting that weekend...just to see them again in a week...

What do you have against the Vikings? This whole thing is in peril now... You're not a Packers fan, are you? :)
About my rogue, I will consider point buy simply so I am not a weak link in the party. I don't like the idea of dragging anyone down, or causing us more peril than Mathpro intends.
DM Mathpro |
Die hard Packer fan actually. My dad was born and raised in WI and grew up in the 50's and 60's watching Bart Starr light it up and while I was raised in Chicagoland he raise me right lol. I went to college in WI though and I miss being able to get all the games and additional packer related programming in WI(Wife and I live in St. Louis now). I was also able to make it to like 3 games while I was "studying" at school lol including Favre's first game back as a Viking...I was with out a voice for a week after that game....

Being a Vikings fan I would have guessed you were used to being dragged down :P
Maxwell Rateliff |
Submitting Rateliff for peer review. If I need to fill a different role I can.
Maxwell Rateliff |
Nice, I'm curious to see what you'll do for a companion.
Kazok |
Submitting Kaz for opinions. Do you guys think he's too close to Maxwell ? I'm not worried by how much damage the party will dish out, at least. :D
I now understand the appeal of those huge recruitments threads: the DM can easily balance the party !
Maxwell Rateliff |
The plan is for Rateliff to work the Grapple, maybe Bullrush or Trip instead if Kazok plans on overrunning some fools. Along with charging to get that Stunning Fist action really going. So AoO for Kazok and low ACs for Apollyon and Wes is my goal.
I'm fine with this party, we're just not people persons :)
Jnor |
"Why talk when sword solves problem? Little human funny."
@Maxwell: Do you think I should take Combat Reflexes instead of Power Attack ? I have +2 DEX, so that would give me up to 3 AoO...
I have my background and description up. I'll probably post in the gameplay thread by tomorrow. I've never played nor RPed such a low-INT character. I feel it's going to be a challenge to make him somewhat interesting out of combat, without making him super-annoying for you guys.
Maxwell Rateliff |
@Jnor: I get Improved Grapple at lvl2, so waiting a level is fine if that fits with your progression. Wes does have entangle though, he'd be causing more early on.
The low Int characters I've played usually don't speak much. Just gestures and sentence fragments with the posts being a lot of what they're thinking. Just one approach though. Maxwell will be in the same situation too. Jane from Firefly probably had a 8 INT...
Apollyon "the Cursed" |
Apollyon the Rogue Sniper is finally ready for review!
Still have to update my post header and personality traits, but should otherwise be complete.
Clarence Bugman |
@Jnor: Your intelligence comment got me thinking about how to RP Rateliff too and I found this interesting.

That's a pretty interesting article, and it made me feel better about having a 12 INT score.
I have an interesting character dilemma where my character has a 12 INT, but a 7 CHA. Not sure whether that will mean I have clear thoughts but trouble relating them, or if I can relate my thoughts clearly but people just don't get me.
Wes Notles |
I'd play it as a nerd, creep or any other awkward or unwanted stereotype. Or maybe have stutter, ticks, a LOUD voice or other annoyances.
I'm late with my char — only basic description is up — but I'll go post something, so you don't need to wait.

Thanks, that was an interesting read.

Ditto. Any detail that if you met the person you'd probably comment on the oddness later on when they weren't around. Lack of empathy, emotionally void, weird obsession or point of view. Just not engaging or relatable for some reason.
DM Mathpro |
Okay guys I'll look over everyone's character and see if any of you need to make any changes.
For this first part of the adventure your groups lack of social graces and skills will be fine but it might be a little bit of a hinderance later on but we'll see. Seeing how this is a somewhat new group I am offing everyone a chance for 1 free rebuild once we get things under way that why if you don't like how things are going your not locked into a character you guys don't like.
I will also get things moving a little more in the game play thread as well.

Depending on how open you are DM, we could possibly fill this gap with a few magic items if we pool our resources. Either way the reroll is generous and appreciated!

I wanted to appologize for my very late update of the game play thread. My wife and I have our wedding anniversary coming up(April 12th) so I've spent far to much time planning a trip for the occasion. $800 dollars later and everything's booked...
No worries, Mathpro. Happy wife happy life.
I've been working on a Human Paladin for our campaign. I would still much rather play the Rogue, but if this party has a hard go or if the Rogue dies, then I can use him instead.
Wes Notles |
We need a trap sensor and someone for ranged pickings is also great. I see I forgot mine - added a sling, but it won't be too effective.
Kazok |
@Wes: I wanted to purchase a bow, but I had no funds left so I got a sling too. Anyhow, I'll probably spend most of my time in hand-to-hand.
I guess we'll see as we go along how things go with our party.
Apollyon "the Cursed" |
@Wes: That's a good point, and I suppose the point of these games is to see how we overcome the challenges that face us with the group we've got. Plus with a four-character party there is bound to be aspects of the game where we are deficient, and others where we excel.
I am excited to see the absolute ass whooping we are capable of when the time comes.
Maxwell Rateliff |
All about the Shuriken, 1d2's all day! Speaking of which, since shuriken is considered ammunition, are we playing that it is always destroyed by being used or that there's a 50% chance of each being recovered?
Maxwell Rateliff |
I'm cool with them.
Apollyon "the Cursed" |
No problems here.
Maxwell Rateliff |
Who else is getting the vibe that this is Golarion's spring break island full of drunk co-eds?
Maxwell Rateliff |
Don't worry, Rateliff doesn't live by the motto "Gym, Laundry, Tan" ;)
