he stops laughing at spawns hit. if you had to guess he's unconscious but not dead-dead.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
OK, so I assume Spawn assists with the door and I pick up the wizard, or was he out of actions and I'll assist on the door? What do I realistically have time to do?
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Glad the wizard's out. Grab the body and let's go! Spawn, close these doors behind us so the cleric can't spell us!
On my turn, if Loran/Spawn have agreed on that plan, I'll assume that Loran will move out and Spawn will close both doors. If so, I move out (assuming 30ft move again) and draw my scroll of Ant Haul with my 2nd move.
If they aren't closing both doors, I'll use my 2nd move to close a door rather than draw the scroll.
On the map I've moved 30 feet assuming the doors will get closed, if I need to close a door, I'll move my marker back to where I can close the door.
My thought is if I have Ant Haul cast, I can probably lift this scrawny tiefling pretty easily and haul ass out of here at at least 40ft/move action. Wish I could talk to my familiar, I'd tell it to draw the damned scroll for me. Next level!
Gay Master
spawn attacked, and moved. he had no actions left this round to help with the door, he's just getting into position for next round.
Neji there's time to move up to the double doors and close one of them.

Temperance does her thing
move out at half, and draw the ant haul.
Gay Master
loran double moves out. spawn five ft steps inside, closes the door and secures it.
Leo: come out of delay, pick up the wizard's body and start to move out.
ash: double move away
ok. we can wrap up.
you guys escape with the wizard's body and victor. next round temperance casts ant haul and moves to catch up with Forsythe, who casts a cure spell.
with Victor stable but unconscious you have time to RUN and escape into the woods before Havelyn and the priest kill spawn and get the doors open.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Let's wander into the woods a bit, eventually circle back around to our temp campsite outside of town. I'd prefer not go into town just yet in case they send runners or something to look for us there. Then let's sleep. Tempy is tired.
Was all excited about the fireball wand until I checked the gameplay thread and saw it was just him casting through his arcane focus. Damn it.
And do we want to make any effort to keep the wizard alive? We could stabilize him, strip him down, tie him up, blindfold him, and then wake him up/torture him for information. He will have a hard time escaping if he can't cast somatics and he doesn't have his bonded focus. Would be nice to know what's been going on in the fort since we last spied around. We could also just feed him to Loran and not worry about it.

Spawn's claws drip with acid now as his muscles get larger. he changes back to a more sinister looking four armed dark creature covered in fur and bony plates
I have Haste as a spell now as well. though I can only cast three spells of that power in a day.
Neji Volrata
its a shame summoner is one of those classes you can't really multi class from
Uh, yeah...haha sure can't
/sob| WhatWouldTemperanceSay |
Summoner Haste! That is very exciting, should help our martials and our quick escapes.
Alan, what is your primary class? Or are you just going to keep adding more different classes?
Temperance gets 2 new lvl2 spells and a new lvl1 now, so that's exciting. Thinking I'll grab a utility buff like invisibility. Could make a big diff for infiltrating/escaping. I think Ash has cast that before, but maybe it was just vanish. Don't want to pick something that he already does a lot.

Nah, Neji was only ever going to be three deep, and was brought in more as an RP concept character than a ideal numbers one. But since the dynamics of the group have changed since I was pulled out of a sack and her role/personality is more solidified she'll focus on being the best psycho for all of you.
Neji Volrata
GM, I can pick up two more languages, other than what is on the Linguistics page, are there additional languages available to this scenario that would be pertinent?
I already know:
Abyssal, Aklo, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnome, Goblin, Ignan, Infernal, Orc, Sylvan
As for me, outside of a mess of health, I'll be picking up one more 1st level. I was thinking Prot. from Good or Law, if the two holy characters do not. I can cast it 4 times for 2min each. Thoughts? Outside of that is the option for Enlarge/Reduce and other distant third options.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
I'm not a big fan or prot f/ good/law, they work so well as wands or scrolls that I hate to waste spells known on them.
Enlarge/reduce is a good idea. Who would want to be enlarged or reduced? It might make more sense for me to take enlarge as a 1st lvl spell rather than you, my in-combat options are often worse than yours and my new 1st slot is undecided. Enlarge tends to be cast in combat in my experience. However, reduce has a lot of utility, esp since you're already small and could be tiny, which could be kinda awesome. Fitting into weird places, sneaking around better, etc.
Liberating command might be a good choice, super handy in a pinch, dependent on caster level (so a terrible wand/scroll) and it's a imm cast so wouldn't necc interfere with your ability to move and attack.
Thinking about the topic has me thinking about my goals with Tempy, figure I'll share them. Her in-combat roles, as I see them:
Primary - single target take-down (hideous laughter now, later feeblemind/dominate)
Secondary - crowd control (grease, entangle; later confusion, slow)
Tertiary - buff allies (invisibility, later haste*, heroism, fly, greater invis, etc)
Quaternary/Opportunistic - combat utility (like D-Door), AoE debuff (like crushing despair), AoE damage (sometimes you just need a fireball)
Basically, if I can take down the boss, I'll do that. If I can't then I'll try to slow down the minions. Barring that, I'll just play support and utility to the party.
*I think Loran is better built for buffing, so would defer to him on spells like haste which make a great first-round cast in combat.
Neji Volrata
I also had the thought of wands vs. casting natively, but if you will remember, choices of wands have be far and few in this hamlet unless we come across a larger city soon. I can always spend a day and some cash to relearn the spell slot later.
Regarding Enlarge we have Leo and Spawn as best candidates. But like you said situational, could be covered with scrolls and Loran can cast it as well.
Reduce would work for me mostly, sneaking as you said, plus the idea of a normal double hand wielding by a tiny creature via Massive Weapons (Ex) is amusing for sure. Lastly reduce could be helpful as a debuffer/CC of sorts on enemies.
As for Neji I see myself as support to the rend/pounce monster that is Spawn and HP-tank support for Leo. I'm a burst damage build that can survive. I will not be a good buffer due to rage.
Coming up for me -
With the Eidolon suit, I gain HP at almost double any other class, level to level. Fused Link (Su) has more than proved it's value as far as I can tell. Perhaps OP, but it has also taken some of the healing load off Fortysythe, which so far we have needed to manage carefully. Outside of ranged, in battle healing is our greatest weakness right now.
Titan Mauler: More Rage Powers to support the Eidolon and Massive Weapons (Ex)
Synthesist: More HP, got Evasion now, Evolutions to support the Barbarian.
Spells wont be interesting for me for another level, but will likely be focused on boons to the barbarian aspect. Maker’s Jump (Sp) (dimension door) will be fun too.
-----------------
Tempy, you are our best CCer and mobile support we have or will have. I wouldn't worry about direct damage; we have that. What we can not do is control the field. So I would only swap your #2 with your #1, as we run into many more mooks than bosses, but other than that agree fully.
Loran Charhaven
I'm incredibly limited in spell slots and available spells. However, i do have some crazy good UMD at this point. (I'm at +13 right now). If we can get me some wands or something I can use those while Spawn kills things.
I still have a feat open so not sure what I'm gonna get with that yet....
EDIT: Took extra evolution since I can take it again at 5th level. Gave Spawn 1d6 bleed on his claw attacks. However, I am considering the Fiendish appearance 3 point evolution at some point.
Neji Volrata
I also considered bleed, but considering how easily it is staunched and the limited damage returns (from previous character experience), I oped for Magic Attacks instead. Also, bleed does not stack, but merely refreshes, so if you have more than one attack doing it, it is not adding value within the round. If you have not done so already I would consider pounce, rend, rake for damage, trip or grab for control or even flight (which can also pounce BTW :)
I am also sitting on my 5th level feat for the time being. I am considering a retrain on a couple items and the time and money it would take to do so.
I think I'll pick up Power Attack as that would add 12 damage to my attacks and opens up the potential for Death or Glory which ties in nicely with Titan.
Neji Volrata
Oh? This whole time I thought Spawn was a quadruped. Grab and Trip are boss as far as I am concerned, but as Zach knows, I'm a huge fan of combat maneuvers.
Neji Volrata
Neji, wakes up, yawns deeply and stretches to her full three feet.
Hey guys! What a great morning. I haven't slept that well in 50 years. Oh hey buddy! Slapping the wizard on the back, I forgot about you. Still covered in a bit of my bile. Super sorry about that. Well we are going to have fun today, you and I, a busy day indeed. Let's see, first we will need to remove those fingers. I'm hungry. And with some carrots, mushrooms and onions, those will cook up nice. Those eyes will make a nice little side dish and dice up this into a stew. Grabbing his member. This is no chicken and I'm no halfling mind you, but I'm good with a knife and a bit-o-fire. This lot's never complained. Elbowing him in the ribs and winking at my joke. So much to do, so much to do, on this beautiful day. Skipping away, humming to myself.

Overnight we'll keep watch and whoever is on watch will punch the wizard every hour or so to make sure he stays out. Also strip him down completely and tie him up really tight, hands in particular. Also gag him. What I'll call the standard spell caster interrogation package. Once we're all up and awake and had a chance to prepare spells or whatever needs to be done, we'll talk to him. A little smelling salts should do the trick, wakes him up without bringing him above staggered and makes it easy to knock him out again if he gets any dumb ideas.
"Here's the deal, wizard. You're probably a decent guy and despite being a wizard probably haven't done too many things to deserve what's about to happen to you. There's no reason to beat around the bush. That little lady over there is going to torture you and that chalky fellow over there is going to eat you when she is done. How much she tortures you and how alive you are when he gets started depends on how much you help."
"We want to know more about what's happening inside the keep and you're probably going to tell us. If you don't, that's fine, we'll figure it out ourselves. In fact, my little friend here would love for you to keep your mouth shut and give her a chance to do what she does best. But if you just tell us what we want to know it will save us a little trouble and so I'll save you a little trouble."
"So, do you mind answering a few questions?"

Here are the questions I'd like to ask, in roughly this order. Any others?
Why are there dwarves here? How many are there?
(Tempy should already know the answer here since we spied on the dwarves in the inn, want to see if he's lying)
Who do they think is attacking them?
How many troops are left?
How do your comrades plan to hold the keep against us?
Are there any reinforcements on the way?
Where can we find valuables?

I do hope we have a chance to visit a city after we finish this little task. Or even just having some downtime for Victor to scribe. We have so much money and a decent amount of stuff we don't need and so little stuff that we want.
I also look forward to picking up a wizard cohort when I hit lvl 7 that can make magic items for us. I bet I can find some little apprentice and charm/dominate him into being a good servant.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
No one else offered questions, so I guess that's what we're asking. How does our foppish friend respond to a little...pressure?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Neji Volrata
I thought you captured the questions well. I would only add:
What are your peer's wants, weaknesses, secrets and needs; the Lord and Priest? Surely you have noted all their eccentricities throughout the years.
How does your Lord fight? = Basically a knowledge check. Special attacks, DR, vulnerabilities and the like.
How do you feel, my dear devil skinned human, returning to Asmodeus? Surely you were questioned, mocked and suspected in all this piety. How does one such as yourself come to enjoy hiding among the sheep?
He was a Tiefling right? If not never-mind my last question.
Gay Master
he looks throughly intimidated. i'm just going to formulate his response after work tonight hopefully.
Gay Master
I'll tell you what you want to know, just please let me go after, don't eat me. I don't want to die!
i never really understood torture. you're basically telling him: ok we're going to kill you. whether we do it fast, or slow, is up to you. nothing you can say or to will stop the inevitable outcome of your death. this is why torture is usually pretty ineffective. tortured victims will say anything, true or false, to try and keep themselves alive. their information can be very unreliable, and it the whole process makes it hard to determine if he's lying or telling the truth...
Zach Ingraham
Yea, it's not necc the best info quality. And not usually a tactic I use in a game for precisely that reason. But I figure a group of aspiring lawful evils would want to employ the tactic frequently and maybe get better at it over time. I did have more creative ideas for how I could motivate him, but restrained myself from going too deep into it. Not sure how much we want to RP torture scenes vs just say "yea, you guys did a good/bad job and got good/bad info from the process.
Examples of further ideas I've had:
Promising him that we won't kill him if his information is valid. Potentially even coming up with an elaborate "you'll die if we don't come back in 4 hours so if you lead us into a trap you're screwed" situation. Very James Bond villain-esque (although practically, I'd probably just leave Victor with him).
Using what we know to ask more questions that we can use to check on his lying. The dwarf question was an example of that, the troop count and questions about the Lord/Priest are to some degree too. Every time he gives a wrong answer, Neji, Loran, Spawn and Victor do something horrible. I think the fear of worse consequences when you lie is somewhat a counter to the "nothing to lose" argument.
Zach Ingraham
Also, as the torturer, you have to hold to your agreement to some degree. If you pull a Tarkin and blow up the planet anyways, then your mark has no reason to believe you next time or other marks that hear about you won't believe you. That's why Tempy has every intention of sticking to her agreement if anyone ever actually gives her good information.

Torture has very little value except to validate what you already know. The fine line that they walk as tortures is to not needlessly harm the torturee, but more importantly to break them so that they have no reason to lie, to believe the torturer is their only true friend who has been trying to help them all along. This is seen is in Stockholm syndrome cases. I have no problem being the monster in this little play, but Tempy could be seen as the light the moth flies to be safe. I am still curious where this wizard's loyalty lies in a house of Mitran. Perhaps he can be converted to Asmodeus and "saved" from demise in that way. He could be convinced he as been blind to the Mitran slavers and of his true glory. Play to his wizard drive to power and knowledge...forbidden knowledge.Torture is just an extreme method of behavioral training, not just violence for the sake of. Unfortunately it is often left in the hands of thugs and jocks who make a mess of it.
Neji Volrata
Haha our little adventure got all serious and real there. We realize the wizard is just an NPC and likely may not even have a text block explaining any of his motives, knowledge or ambitions. Handle it as best you see fit.
Neji dances and questions in a sing song way, waving a silver dagger as one might conduct an orchestra:
Sing for us little bird, and you may just fly free. How far and how well depends on you. Will you be a beggar on a dolly or a master in a tower? Only Asmodeus knows, but lords know he richly rewards those that are true and sends the rest to the crows. You have only to ask those that oppose him, those we left in the tower last night. They sing of Mitran to the worms while we dance in the sun. Will you join us little bird and bask in such glory or should I see how your fat warms my pans?

Why are there dwarves here? How many are there? (Tempy should already know the answer here since we spied on the dwarves in the inn, want to see if he's lying)
I think the dwarves were locked up at some point. they pled their innocence though, and when more attacks popped up and all of the dwarves were accounted for, Havelyn realized someone was using magic to masquerade as dwarves.
Who do they think is attacking them?
they weren't sure before, but i know what you are. She carries the symbol of Asmodeus. you're devil worshippers. What are you doing here?
How many troops are left?
I don't know. how many ants are crawling on your backpack?
How do your comrades plan to hold the keep against us?
without me, i have no idea. they wanted me to prove some support and of course arcane blasts.
Are there any reinforcements on the way?
I was trying to find a way to contact other outposts for aid, since you destroyed the rookery. Father Donnagain was praying for a solution, but neither of us have had much luck I think.
Where can we find valuables?
Lord Havelyn has a key to the watchtower's treasury chest, and my laboratory has my spellbook and 120gp. the key in my pouch opens the strongbox under my bed. There's an alchemist lab, and a cauldron of brewing.
Neji Volrata
they weren't sure before, but i know what you are. She carries the symbol of Asmodeus. you're devil worshippers. What are you doing here?
Why we are here to bring salvation my dear boy, and this island of stone stands in the way a deterministic torrent beyond the understanding of you or I.
Gay Master
done questioning? what are you planning to do with him now?
Neji Volrata
He didn't answer question 1 and question 2 I asked, or were there no answers to give?
Gay Master
oops. accidental oversight.
What are your peer's wants, weaknesses, secrets and needs; the Lord and Priest? Surely you have noted all their eccentricities throughout the years.
I don't know. I keep to myself and do my work. i keep track of the arcane for the entire keep. The old priest likes to think he's some kind of lovable detective. and his lordship is honorable and just, the men have his loyalty and he theirs.
How does your Lord fight? = Basically a knowledge check. Special attacks, DR, vulnerabilities and the like.
I don't know. he likes to cast a few prepatory spells, but otherwise he fights. he's a human, not a demon like you. you don't need special weapons to kill him. you're nuts.
How do you feel, my dear devil skinned human, returning to Asmodeus? Surely you were questioned, mocked and suspected in all this piety. How does one such as yourself come to enjoy hiding among the sheep?
