I think we should just try and cover our tracks, and make it look like we got out some other way. I'd rather not stay, once they wake up Ballentyne or Father Donnugan. This is just another captain. If we can kill him quickly, engage them, and be seen fleeing, while some of us hide in the storage, they'll think we just breeched the security, not that we escaped into their own walls. I'm faster, so that may nominate me. My abilities aren't as unique as an evil cleric, or an antipaladin either.

just so its at the top of the new page.

Exactly Ash, which was why I proposed the Old Man finally lost his marbles, perhaps from from age and in a fit of bird brained rage, perhaps from a horrible portent that made him attack wildly . We would take his body with us and someone would run around as him while we/he escaped. Or we go down the tried and true, "the dwarves are against us and attacked" but I worry about not being able to get to the sabotage points if we go that route as they would be suspicious of all things touched by dwarves.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
I like the idea of impersonating the old dude and hate to be a damper on the cool new idea, but they're probably going to be skeptical of another incident when they've got a ton of dead soldiers lying around already and lots of weird shit has been happening around town for a week or so.
Plus there are a 3 dead bodies and a bunch of dead birds upstairs. Would be hard to keep them from going upstairs if they're already skeptical and hard to quickly make that not look like the grisly murder scene it is.
I say we stick with the "pin it on the dwarves" plan. Victor has a cover story for our escape (we teleported out, he has the burnt out scroll) but if that doesn't feel convincing then we can have a "scape goat" run like hell and try to escape through more obvious and mundane means.
Alternately, we can switch plans and I'll happily go along ooc (chaos can be fun) but will stay to the more lawful and consistent approach in character. Feel free to ignore my objections. :-)
Bad Neji! Stick to the plan, we're dwarves that are trying to disguise ourselves and cause chaos in the fort. That way they won't even know we exist to be suspects and they'll blame the engineers. Distrusting their own perfectly well made and very secure structure is a GOOD thing!
But we do need an escape plan, if Ash wants to draw their attention and make an escape, I commend his bravery and loyalty to our cause. Just don't get caught, I don't want you squealing when they torture you.
Victor_Moreau
Um, guys, I have the perfect plan. I've got a "used scroll" that we can drop and then when we hide behind the door they'll think we just teleported out.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
That's a terrible idea, Victor. How did you get to be a wizard if you're that dumb? Used scrolls radiate magic for hours after they're cast. A skilled wizard can even detect how strong the magic was and what school was cast. How are you going to replicate a strong conjuration aura in a hurry?
Victor_Moreau
Um, I dunno. I was going to include some really...racy...stories I wrote about the dwarven cleric and the wizard. Um, for just this occasion. Yea. I figured that might distract him from examining it more closely. Plus, I was going to singe it with Acid Splash, that's conjuration magic.
Gay Master
still in intiative. there's guards outside the door.
Vicky & Tempy? actions besides banter?
Neji Volrata Eidolon
The bodies upstairs would have been killed by the old man and his swarms (I know it is a stretch), and like I said we would take the old guy with us while we escaped so it looks like he flew the coop, or even better, tried to fly and fell to his death (would explain my hammer dent in his head). More so, it delays a swarm of guards if they just think the old man is locked in a tower being a screw-ball while also explaining the grease and entangle magic outside the tower. This is opposed to actively thinking they are under attack and asking for more support. Buuut for that plan to work Tempy, the best actor in the house, would have to old-man-crazy-it-up, which is why I'm bringing your a horn.
I KNOW the dwarven plan would cause them to question the work done by the actual dwarves and certainly would sew chaos, but what do you think they would do, if they started questioning their work? They would investigate the work and upon doing that it will make it that much harder for us to get to it to ACTUALLY sabotage it.
Correct me if I am wrong on that last point. Similar to you, I am fine with either plan, even in fighting our way there now. I'm just worried about getting keeping that bridge down and the portcullis up when big and hairy gets here (not William).
Actually now that I think of it, we can do both. You can act like the old man, fighting off the dwarves, telling the guards you have it under control. Two birds with one stone if you will.
Tempy, I worry about you. Yes, let's go with Victor's plan [sarcastic Message-based eye-roll]. What could possibly go wrong?

I think I'll take my chances running... We're not trying to open/hold the gate right now. Thats a monster of a different nature. We'll have to tackle that after we signal. Lets just get away first. Rendezvous where the camp was outside of town? or I can sneak back into the Inn's tunnel.
Forsythe Dominem
|
How about we all disguise ourselves behind the door as servants... I ready an obscuring mist for when we open the door, drop it, and then we make a dash for it.
If anyone confronts us, we just say we're servants running from the commotion. Leaning on our social skills seems the best chance to me.
Forsythe Dominem
|
NO! YOU'RE THE BAIT!
Of course we'll give you time to dismiss....
Although having some bait wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. Anyone able to cast an illusion or summon something nasty looking to draw the guards into the tower / distract them?
Gay Master
time waits for no man.
act soon or forever hold your piece :
Victor will continue with his mad plan of acid splashing a used scroll with dirty limericks. Temperance will delay, while her grease 1, grease 2, and entangle tick down.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
You guys can't make up your minds. I think the servant plan is a good bet, I'm going to dress up.
Std to change my disguise self to look like one of the servants we saw the other day.
Victor_Moreau
Nonono, this will totally work. See...(he holds his scroll up to the empty room), it totally looks like a real scroll.
You guys suck.
He keeps working on his scroll, you hear him cast acid splash.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
so want to do a Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 and find out he isn't casting Acid Splash at all, but Air Bubble, Mudball or even better Bungle. Now that I think of it Delusional Pride would be far more in line. :)
Gay Master
tempy takes on a new guise, victor acts pitiful.
the soldiers outside do some shit. you hear them banging on the door and shit.

Neji Volrata Eidolon
I can't run/charge anyway :)
OK I think I counted correctly using each square as 10 and judging where one stair ends and another begins, but I may have misjusdged. Feel free to adjust my fat ass as you see fit.
Gay Master
Forsythe I guess will double move down? or possibly single move and some disguise change. i'll just move one for now, to err on a cautious guess.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Alright, I think this will work. Let them break in, drop the mist, Commence the murdering, then flee through the mist disguised as servants and make our way to the exits casually. Maybe we should go out through Victor's door? Victor, do you hear anyone trying to break into that door?
Forsythe Dominem
|
I single move + disguise myself as a servant.
The following round, I'll move + ready to cast Obscuring Mist. Then scream any yell about "OMG MONSTERS SAVE ME" or something.
Gay Master
So far, Victor hasn't heard anything by his door, one floor below Temperance and Loran.
Is he still working on his mad plan in round 5 ? Tempe, you're altering self to look like your disguise self ? k, soldiers are up then i think.
Loran, are you dismissing your Summon Eidolon spell? or is it running out?

the captain busts through the door and steps in a bit as the grass and weeds grasp at his mailed boots. Loran stands there having held the door back ( still in the guise of a guard that you came in as i think? since you haven't changed it). Temperance behind him looking like a servant as she heads for the stairs down. Ash on the stairs coming down to the 2nd level of the tower looks like a bloody guard holding a morningstar. And Neji is just out of sight, on her way down the staircase to Victor's area, the first floor of the tower.
Forsythe and Leo are still on the third level of the tower.
the captain appears openly hostile, and not fooled by Loran or Ash's disguises as some of his men. You can't tell what he makes of Temperance's servant disguise.
the obscuring mist is either 1 or two rounds away. 40 ft will get Forstyhe to the top of the level 2 stairs. another move and cast will fill the 2nd level with mist. for now there is no obstruction.
Men! Get in here! We've been infiltrated! I want those guards captured! and hold those servants!
At that, the guard on the landing try to climb/jump down from the landing, in through the doorway. climb/jump: 1d20 ⇒ 13. Just making it down, grabbing the lintel, and moving through the captain's square, panting hard as he draws his weapon, levelling it at Loran. Drop your weapons, Hands up!

at least I don't have a glowing rune on my forehead...
5ft step back and summon a fiendish wolf in front of me who attacks the main guy with smite
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Now what, this is gonna get messy guys I whisper into the spell.

Yup, look's like cover is blown.
I will no longer be obscuring misting on my init. Probably going to Hold Person on the Captain if I can get down there & cast.
How are people looking for damage? Anyone significantly hurt?
Neji Volrata Eidolon
In a booming broken Dwarven/Common as similar to lead worker in town, By the Five Kings, get those servants! They have foiled our plans for the last time! Blast, the human guards are here! Curses to these so-called magics to disguise us as humans. Kill them all before the the servants can give them our plans!
bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
awesome barbarian acting fingers crossed
Neji Volrata Eidolon
No longer fatigued, I cast Burning Grasp, walk around to the main guy, Rage (4th of 8), Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27, for damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 2) = 19
Neji Volrata Eidolon
ohh, I like that...
crit touch?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
crit damage?: 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 5) + 2 = 20
I'm still disguised as a guard obviously.
awesome sorcerer burning fingers crossed
Neji Volrata Eidolon
Sorry missed the damage question from Forsythe. Depending on your Knowledge Arcana/Planes, you may know I sacrificed my own health in the last fight to keep my Eidolon in this realm. Although you can't see me though my Eidolon suit, perhaps our close connection of personality or perhaps via raw empathy, you could determine that I am approximately 81% healthy. :)
Or, you know none of that and see that I look the same as always.
Gay Master
Leo also looks pretty damaged. What potential prone? No one's prone at the moment. Oh the wolf trip? the bite missed. he just rolled all of those together at once. It can't trip without hitting with its bite first.
Captain Barhold staggers back in his square a bit, recoiling from the pain as he takes 39 damage from the burning grasp. There's magic afoot! Wake everyone! He then turns towards Neji. You're dead for that, witch. levelling his greatsword at Neji menacingly.

Neji, are you wielding anything that'll threaten adjacent creatures? can i flank with you?
Ash runs down the stairs and zips into a flank with the goon guard, and swings morningstar.
morningstar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 91d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (5, 5) = 14 if its not with flank, its 2 less, and ignore the 2d6
moot point. nat 1

as a description as far as the captain goes, since he's much more impressive looking in his full gear than he is when he rarely showed up at the tavern:
Captain Barhold is a craggy-faced veteran in his mid thirties. He's wearing full plate, and moving very quickly for a man his age, in what he's wearing. On his back, a polearm sheath carries a lucerne hammer, at various sheathes he has a falchion strapped to him, a dagger, a longsword, and more. He seems well prepared, and attentive to his duties and martial skills. Interestingly, he also carries a sap. He looks tough, even burned after Neji's grasp, he seems dangerous.
