fort. vs. distraction: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 not distracted.
i don't have a blunt weapon. I just whack at the swarm, and then move into the room next to the mad man.
falchion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 252d4 + 12 ⇒ (1, 2) + 12 = 15 hit. 7 damage goes through.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

I also vote that Forsythe channels on her turn. It would make the most sense as in this situation.
fort. vs. distraction: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
The following happens ONLY if Forsythe does not burst and is also dependent on what happens with Ash
Get your cloud of wings and guano away from me you horrible little man and by the lords quit your ranting.
While holding my hammer in one hand, I consider the smashing the old man and his cloud of birds, but am not interested in the cleanup required afterwards. I move up, extend my other hand and produce a grout of flame (Burning Hands). Let me know if I need a concentration check. I think I am in the right place to hit the old man and the two swarms behind him?
BH: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 3, 4) = 14; DC 16 Reflex

Gay Master |

i put the birds on the map in the room, to illustrate that there are a lot of them around. the birds in the room that aren't flying around as a swarm, seem to just be agitated and sqwacking, they're not active as swarms, just as a lot of birds. only one swarm is active right now.

Gay Master |

you can still go in, and target a lot of birds in an area. just letting you know that its not so much a swarm for them yet. so you may only get 5-10 individual birds. I'll pull Forsythe out of delay and move up to channel. Is no one barring the doors on the basement and first floors then? aside from Victor writing his used scroll / holding a door shut.

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

We tried to bar the doors earlier, I was taking from that "put something heavy in front of the door/if there is actually a bar to drop, drop it". If that wasn't possible, then Victor is barring the basement door and Tempy is trying to get a view of the courtyard.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

I thought about barring, but there were still PCs outside. Also, now knowing those other birds are not swarms I can, if the other players want, burning hands the swarm and then bar the door, as opposed to attacking the old man. I'm cool with either path.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

Depending on you and your Eidolon's movement and current position, it would be better if your Ed attacked the old man and you or I hold as I have ranged and your Ed is a melee monster

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

I'm talking about barring the doors down below, not to the bird room. For the bird room it seems like killing everything in there is the dominant strategy.
I would say attack whatever you can do the most damage to (swarm or madman). I'm expecting/hoping that channel negative will take care of a lot of the non-swarm birds.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

oh, never mind my comment then. I, obviously, was assuming locking out a swarm and and old man in. I will go back to burning an old man then

Gay Master |

old man reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Gay Master |

The old man reels from being burned.
Forsythe double moves up the stairs a bit, so she can move and channel next round, without danger of having to make a distraction check.

Scribbles furiously, looks up for a second, sees he's all by himself (as he prefers) leaning against the (hopefully) well-barred door in this little room at the base of the tower and listening for footsteps.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
And he's useless as always. Hopefully he'll hear the good guys coming before they start banging on the door.

Gay Master |

temperance, you see three guards rushing across the courtyard below in the moonlight, and two from the north wall and two from the west wall.

Gay Master |

on Mad Martin's turn, the swarm moves on to Leo and Neji. You get AoOs
Leo's AOO falchion : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 192d4 + 12 ⇒ (3, 3) + 12 = 18 9 damage
ash's aoo morningstar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 miss
neji's aoo: 1d20 ⇒ 16 - if you've got a weapon out. you hit.
the swarm then does swarm: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 damage to Leo and Neji.
Leo is not looking great.
Loran you finish your full round casting of summon eidolon. he appears.
you and he may now act.

I have my Lucerne Hammer in my hand;
bonk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
I would rather AoO the old man if he moves out of my reach range, otherwise swarm as it enters it.
After I do my damage, as a free action, I will sacrifice ten of my health via Fused Link (Su) to prevent damage to the Eidolon.

![]() |

I will indeed be channeling as soon as the chance is upon me (when I standard move upstairs on my turn). Sadly it's only 2d8.
(Sorry, hopefully I'll actually be back here now. I re-enabled my RSS feed and will be keeping track that way).
CNE: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 DC 17.

Gay Master |

you're drunk, go home. its 2d6. ::evil grin::
well s*+~. with the AoO, the swarm dissipates.
Instead of clubbing leo and stepping back, Mad Martin steps back and seems to command another swarm together, which forms behind him, and moves to where the last swarm was, and does the 10 damage specified.
if you have combat reflexes, you may take a second AoO on this new swarm.
Loran's action: spawn double moves up to Mad Martin.
Loran moves down to help bar the door.

not on mad martin.
it went off against the swarm entering your square/moving out of a threatened square first, which hit and brought it to zero, dispersing the swarm.
mad martin then saw the swarm disperse, and took a five ft. step away from Leo and you, and another swarm seemed to attack at his command. Which is the second swarm, on the map now. the first swarm has been killed.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

OK, no problem. If I need a distraction roll: Distraction: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Are there doors to the wall at this level of the tower (that would be typical, I think, based on standard fantasy castle design)? So I have 7 soldiers quickly charging toward me?
Whispering:
Um, guys, can you hurry up and kill those birds and the old man? I'm sure it's tough and all, but I'm about to have some real problems down here, 7 soldiers are charging this way.
Did I get a turn? I know I looked out the window, but I don't think I got an actual action...
I cast grease on the big red dot to the north of me first. If I get that extra turn, I cast it on the big red dot to the west second.

Victor_Moreau |

On his turn, still scribbling and muttering under his breath... We can of course hear it because of message.
It needs to be just right. And needs to be done soon. Bad soldiers are approaching. Will ruin the story and the scroll.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Yea, still muttering too loud to hear anything.

Gay Master |

Tempy, somewhat skipped you just to not wait too long. Noted what you saw. you can cast a grease at that point. if you were casting grease when you were looking the first round as well, then both greases are up.
crit on 14 confirsm. Mad Martin takes 23 damage and crumples to the ground. The swarm breaks up as well, back to its birds as if their hostile will has been drained.
Ash just loots the body quickly, presuming Forsythe will channel around him.
finds nothing of any value. perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Forsythe comes up and channels in the room, excluding the few in the room
channel negative energy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Most of them are dead. one more channel should kill off the rest. about 9 birds are still flopping around injured. Or on your action you can contribute to the slaughter.

Let's see if Victor hears anything above his own stage whisper...
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Maybe...

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Alright, going to try a spell I've often had on my list and rarely gotten a chance to cast. It looks like there is enough plant material in the courtyard for it to work.
Entangle centered right in front of the door to the courtyard (courtyard side, of course). 40 ft radius so should catch all 3 of my assailants.
You boys about done? Make sure the old man is really dead and the birds are useless and get down here to help me bar the doors.

Gay Master |

Yep, victor hears them coming at this point. there are cries of surprise as they fall in the grease, and shouted orders from one of the three guys running across the quad.
DC of the entangle?
A: 1d20 ⇒ 13
B: 1d20 ⇒ 19
C: 1d20 ⇒ 13

two of the soldiers stay mired in grease, while one makes it out, but doesn't know what to do. One jumps down from the stairs, but lands badly, and then gets up. Captain Barnhold moves up to the door. One of his men frees himself, and steps up, but the other remains entangled.
much of this depends on the save dc of entangle being 16. subject to revision if the DC is higher.

s5 reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 13 fifth soldier encounters the grease. falls.
s6 balance: 1d20 ⇒ 17 sixth soldier gets up and moves out of grease. He moves to the edge of the landing, at the top of the stairs down into the courtyard, looking at the plants writhing and entangling his friends. and shouts to his captain for directions.

suddenly I hear The Benny Hill Show theme playing.

Gay Master |

yeah, you can attempt to bar the door.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

I stop raging (fatigued 2 rnds), cast Rejuvenate Eidolon, Lesser: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 and move downstairs. I cant see the map, so feel free to move me in that general direction. If I can find/grab the old man's alerting horn I would like to grab it. Is there a roof to this tower or windows/slits on these floors that look towards the courtyard from which we could shoot those below?
Leo are you OK? Can you holy-touch-yourself or do you have a wand of healing?PassingHealCheck: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Temperance, we are on our way. Perhaps if one of us acts like the crazy old man, we can throw the troops off long enough to get the jump on them before we wake up this whole hive? Like the old bastard finally lost his last grip on reality and is running around blowing his horn and randomly casting grease and entangle like the nature weirdo he obviously was. Others of us can be guards keeping the door closed while we try to catch his crazy ass. Loran and I can mimic the summon-able ravens.

Leo the Fake |

No, i'm not half-undead like Forsythe and Loran, I can't heal myself. and there is no wand. I'll just have to get by. I can't channel around you either, so unless you want to leave and let me channel, I'll just help by hacking a few birds.
I cleave two birds with one sword. and move down the stairs.

Gay Master |

Spawn decapitates the body with his teeth and claws in a visceral display of horrific carnage.
Loran holds the door, and manage to anchor your foot, supporting the door, while grasping the latches.

there are window slits, for setting the birds out. you can shoot down with arrows from them. they're angled so that its not hard to peer out, look down, and see the courtyard below. there's a window every 30 degrees. "up" on the map can be zero degrees.

Gay Master |

its 270 ft to the trap door. about 90 ft every level to get down the stairs, and over to the next stairs. you can't run, since none of its straight lines and its half rushing down tower stairs.
directly, its about 50 ft, out the window, down to the courtyard. the men are 50 ft away. and it'd be a -2 to the shot from this angle.

Neji Volrata Eidolon |

I was more curious on my end for Produce Flame and Elemental Ray, or via Leo's Smite-Good-1MileAway-Crit-Archery or Victor's often disappointing crossbow should we have to hold the tower while we fight. It is a strategically awesome position should things go south.
