casting silence for y'all ?
starts casting silence.
the owner pulls out a scroll and concentrates to read it while being threatened with Neji's lucerne. 1d20 ⇒ 11 manages it, and gets Neji and Temperance in a cone of powerful sound. Reflex saves svp. 4d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 1) = 8 sonic.
she then steps back five ft.
her familiar hops around the corner, surprising Ash. a large rabbit with a unicorn's horn. and gores him. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 142d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 = 6
crap supposed to be assistant first. oh well. she delayed.

the uber bunny misses.
the apprentice pulls a scroll and reads it
ranged touch vs. loran: 1d20 ⇒ 184d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 1) = 11
a ray of flame jets out of her hand, slamming into Loran for 11 fire damage. (idk if you have resistances).
and she steps back.
Gay Master
back to the top of the round. Victor's up. ( and not on the map. oops. someone plop something down for him ? )

Relex: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Looks like I take a face full of rock and roll.
Again, being a good team member, I hold back from burning the crone and assistant alive for fear of loosing inventory and instead rage, take a five foot step forward and practice my golf swing on the Owner of a ridiculous looking jackalope.
Hammer: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Sinner! You dare set your laughable beast against us? Only those of folly would employ such a pathetic familiar. My sirs will dine upon your hare with it's conveniently built-in spit.
Victor_Moreau
Victor takes another shot:Prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Then moves inside to see if he can catch that pet bunny. He's always wanted a pet to call his own.

I can't flank a jakelope by myself! Victor get over here!
I walk around the assistant and get to the other side of the jackelope and whack it with mace ( i forgot , my morningstar was sundered. going to need to cross that off my sheet ).
mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Gay Master
The almerj gores you gore: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 242d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 1 = 4
Leo the Fake
lol. he hits and actually does gore you. jeez.
Leo comes in and stabs her over the counter with his greatsword.
greatsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 162d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 = 13
hits for 13 dmg.
she's still standing, but barely, it looks like.

Loran closes the door as Leo comes in.
Enough, please! Take whatever you want, just don't kill us. screams the owner, as she holds in blood from huge cuts, her face already heavily bruised from the lucerne hammer.
she spits, a tooth and blood landing at her feet.
Temperance is up. ( and still needs a reflex save to figure if she took 4 or 8 sonic last round )
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Sorry, missed the need for a save.
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Conspirators with the dwarves will be given no quarter!
I don't see any advantage in taking prisoners here unless someone wants living pets. So, I cast HL on the apprentice. I want someone laughing hideously and I'd like it to be one of them.
Anyone else is welcome to disagree and save these 2. Since my attack is non-lethal it shouldn't cause too much trouble.
Gay Master
will save: 1d20 ⇒ 2 lol
Gay Master
Forsythe finishes casting silence, and moves up to the door. but its closed. otherwise her looming presence would suddenly deafen you all with asmodeous' will. But there's a door.
seeing no quarter is being given, the owner concentrates concentration: 1d20 ⇒ 16 and disappears.
Victor_Moreau
Victor starts giggling again and moves up to the laughing assistant, he starts stabbing her.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Don't have his stats in front of me, but he should have at least the +4 from her being prone.
I think his damage is:
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Gay Master
apprentice's second save: 1d20 ⇒ 6. she continues laughing hysterically on the ground.

uber the superbunny: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 102d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 1 = 7 aww. he missed =(
( i wish my witch had an uberbunny )
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Whispering over message, but hoping I'm heard by the witch.
My fellow dwarves, the witch is invisible. She has at most a few minutes to hide. Cover the exits and keep a watchful eye for things moving that shouldn't move or blood dripping on the ground.
Loud enough she can hear me:
This changes things. You may be able to escape. More likely, you will be caught and your apprentice and you will both die. But if you do escape, then we'll hold your apprentice and only kill her if you alert the guards. If we are not found out, she will be freed when we have safely escaped.
However, you have bought yourself a better deal. I offered no quarter a second ago because I had no reason to. But you are clever and I would rather you surrender and live then take the risk of you escaping. There are plenty of lambs to slaughter. If you surrender now, then in the name of Asmodeus, the Prince of Law, we will release you both when we finish.

Ash quaff's an extract.
Point a direction if you get a clue where she is, if we don't care about burning the place down right now, i can spit fire in her direction and bring her down.

first round: yeah there's magic in the area.
you don't perceive anything hidden. nor does ash.
Loran is up.

You hit, and it lives. It looks like you just made a new best friend.
Leo double moves to get closer to the rabbit and the assistant.
Temperance is up.
Gay Master
Stop raging.
Begin Detecting Magic. I realize there will be quite a bit in here due to the scrolls, but I begin concentrating on anything not a scroll.I move five and guard the 16 squares around me.
[dice=Perception]d20+8** spoiler omitted **
which quadrant / where are you directing your 60 ft cone of Detect Magic ? Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest?
Neji Volrata Eidolon
Just realized I used the wrong Alias in that post; what a noob.
I will focus the cone West to South West, which is where I believe she also disappeared?
Gay Master
she was standing in the west. i plopped down a cone facing the west if you wanna look there, or i can plop down one a bit more southwest.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Alright, annoying details...you said there is an upstairs, do we get there from her office or is it an external walk-up?
How many doors and windows lead externally? Are the windows open? Are the doors open?
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Regardless, I'll cast detect magic and start concentrating. Then I'll move to the west of and face to the east of Neji, so my cone will cover what hers does not.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
That looks good to me and is a perfectly reasonable place to begin searching.
I am searching for:
1. A bubble of illusion, moving or not.
2. Scrolls of evocation or divination
3. Any magic which is clearly not from the areas with items for sale.
Gay Master
Alright, annoying details...you said there is an upstairs, do we get there from her office or is it an external walk-up?

2 windows to the front, closed
1 window to the east, closedno external walk up stairs, so presumably through the back office.
front door and office door closed at the moment.
deathwatch argument on the forums kinda gave me a precident for something that hasn't come up before: with deathwatch, you need to be able to see the target to ascertain its status , so deathwatch , a 1st level spell, can't be used as a "see invisibility" to detect dying or living creatures. i extrapolate from that that Detect Magic requires you to be able to see the target to ascertain its aura of magic ( aside from cases where entire rooms are magic, the air is magic, or something is just giving off a powerful aura of magic ), effectively invisibility hides its owner's aura. wah wah. if everyone objects to this in the immediate case, i'll just roll : odds it works this way, evens it doesn't, but at least y'all would know for next time. everyone okay? or should i roll?
Gay Master
Forsythe is up...
standing outside the door, keeping things quiet outside.
I'll leave her there as a sound baffle, and ready to attack anything hostile that opens the door
( because it would be too funny and easy for me to use forsythe to open the door, envelop everyone in silence, and have the owner run away in the confusion. )
Gay Master
( nevermind. detect magic will work to a point.
secondary logic source uncovered. i hadn't known the mythic version explicitly hides you from things like detect magic.
it'll still take a few rounds to determine location of auras. and because the item or creature bearing the aura is not in line of sight, you'll never be able to determine what type of aura it is. just its presence and strength/location after 3 rounds if its still in your cone of detection. )

I have always ruled that magics such as Invisibility are made to cloud the physical senses but as similar to infrared are bright to those that have the tools to translate it. Magic, like a form of spectrum undetectable by the mundane would be detectable, not obvious, but detectable via tools such as detect magic and more obvious via Arcane Sight. These tools do not allow you to see the person, per se, but do allow you to hunt the artifacts of the power used to hide the person. The person under invisibility would have the benefit of knowing that detect magic is too raw to focus quickly to find them, but they may also not know that a person is detecting and feel safe to stand still. Depends on how wise they are I suppose.
Gay Master
i just like to temper detect magic's usefulness. its powerful for a cantrip. its a great tool, but as an unlimited resource instead of like, a 1st level spell like a lot of other Detect spells, its power balance is off a bit.
Gay Master
where were we. ah yes, Temperance had cast detect magic as well.
Forsythe is readying outside to hit something and standing guard.
Uber decides to Stab Loran.
gore: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 252d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5 dealing another 5 damage.
there's the sound of spellcasting. and suddenly a spongy ball of fire appears and falls onto Loran. reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 113d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3) = 13
and Loran falls down, unconscious. ( judging by the 23 hp listed on his profile, and currently at 29 hp of damage. )
ash@perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
victor@perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
neji@perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
temperance@perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5
leo@perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1
the sound of spellcasting came from the corner, next to Victor, says vicotr and neji.
all that's on that square that's visible though is a book on the floor.
the apprentice continues laughing.
Top of the round. Victor.

oh, and the door next to Victor opens.
:: evil grin ::
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Vickorus, stop stabbing the lauging woman and get in her office to guard the stairs up to her bedroom. Everyone else, unless she has some trick up her sleeve, it looks like she cast the stronger version of invisibility that persists when you attack someone. That means it shouldn't last more than about 30 seconds.
Victor_Moreau
Oh, ok. Well, where are the stairs?
He'll move to whatever looks the most like stairs and try to guard them for an invisible creature.
Ash Ketchum
|
i can do that too. you want him to target the next room over?
like so? ( ash is confirming this in infernal before firing , as he's being guided where to shoot by you guys with detect magic )
Neji Volrata Eidolon
Looks like the town center exists, but the Silver Quill does not and has become a baby's diaper of heads and pastel magic. I think I fixed it.
I stop concentrating, cast burning touch and move to the bunny and grab my new meal:
Burning Bunny Buns Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Critting Bunny Buns Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 1) = 11
Crit Damage: 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 6) + 2 = 17
Gay Master
ash moves up, breathes. the area is bathed in flames for a second, and the book explodes in a pop, but nothing else erupts or catches fire.
Neji burns up the bunny, incinerating it.
Loran@stabilize: 1d20 ⇒ 3. not even close.
Loran pulls Leo's body out of the flames and attempts to stabilize him.
Leo@heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Leo is down too? I missed that. Poor guy is so often bleeding out. Or was Leo always down and I misread it as Loran. Who knows with all these men. Maybe we really should bring in evil Saio to be an active healer this group.
