Honestly it took me 25 minutes to make sure all the bonuses were correct and in the right order, and then I muffed Haste. I goofed up a crit roll before, so now I like to roll the crit, then roll the crit confirm in a separate post. I can alter that if you prefer, but I remember a conversation about multiple rolls in a post and possible cheating and what not. The old man shifts back away from the foe, hoping to stay out of his deadly reach. The overcrowded room makes it difficult for Ibid to drawback on the string without interference and he soon finds his aim in these tight quarters straying from its mark.

Gunari Maximoff

With only a standard, Gunari cannot charge. Full round action
Gunari moves up, getting in the face of Fiveknives, saying in a cold, calm voice, "Fiveknives, we'll give you only once chance to surrender and face the consequences for what you have done. I don't expect you to take this chance, which saddens me. However, Cayden Cailean himself supports my cause, as evidenced by this!" Gunari holds his rapier out in an attack position, and his rapier suddenly glows with divine power. Swift action - adds Keen to his rapier with Sacred weapon (sorry, no direct anchor to his ability)
"Remember, I gave you the chance. What happens next is your choice."
'Hasn't there been enough killing? It has already affected both Cyrus and Finarin. I suppose it has affected me, though I tend to drown its affects in my worship of the Drunken Hero. Let him surrender... for once let one of these bastards surrender.'
Kaisharga
|
Kaisharga slithers into combat, past the allies. Almost over now, the last enemy remains. The eidolon does not care much about Gunari's speech of surrender; prey is prey. Revealing it's fangs, the serpent creature strikes.
Bite, haste, IC: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 9
damage, IC: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Amaranti
|
"Aspis... better dead" Amaranti mutters, "always do dirty tricks"
Having stated his opinion, he moves closer, and tries to strike Fiveknives from difficult angle, and it's too hard to get his aim right.
Lance, IC, PA: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 - 1 = 15 Enemy has cover

Despite numerous attempts at his life, the Pathfinders are unable to bring down Fiveknives Kalim. The wound dealt by Finarin burns the most, though... figuratively and literally! The man pumps the muscles on his scar covered arms.
"If I'm going to the Abyss, I'm taking at least one of you f•ckers with me!" he yells venomously before attacking the elf who wounded him all out.
Dagger 1 vs Finarin: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Dagger 2 vs Finarin: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Dagger 2 damage vs Finarin: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Frustrated that he was unable to land a more solid blow, Kalim howls at the elf instead.
Next up: Finarin, Ibid, Cyrus, Miro, Kaisharga, Gunari, Amaranti.
Active Global Conditions: Inpsire courage (+1).
Individual Conditions: Miro -8, Finarin -6, Cyrus 1 NLD.

Please do pop in preview. It seems to be the convention - and it's certainly what I do. I'm not sure how you could "cheat" on a crit confirm, but I trust all of you not to do that these days. One post per action on your initiative during combat is my absolute favourite.

Seeing the evil human dripping blood, charred from his spells, the elf once again lets the magic of Nethys guide him. His scimitar flashes high towards his throat, then into his bowls, followed by a swift strike to the heart.

He continues shaking his head as he strikes whether he is successful or not.
| GM Damo |
Does that mean I can't share the selfie? *searches for errors* Damn it! Perfect. Thank you so much for all the effort there, mate. Makes my job 100% easier. As a reward...
Finarin's scimitar, veritably pulsing with eldritch energies, slices into Fiveknives' jugular. He clutches at it uncomprehendingly as Gunari waves his blade ineffectually in front of him. Eventually blood lose causes him to pass out and fall to the ground, where he bleeds to death in seconds.
At some point, someone thinks to yell down to Miro to tell him he can stop singing now because the battle is over!
Feel free to put in some after-battle posts. Just don't waste any charges! It's over. Mother Bogwynne can heal you. I'll try to get an epilogue post in tonight, but it's a busy one for me. Chronicles will come for you either tomorrow or Wednesday.

As someone calls down to him to stop singing, he ignores them, continuing to sing a rousing rendition of "The Glorious Gentlemen Glaivemen". Of course, the fact that none of them actually used a glaive might put off a less stubborn halfling, but Miro was determined to finish all 12 verses.
"Alrighty, friends! Another job well done! Let's get these eggs back to mother Bogwynne."
Cyrus the Flea
|
Cyrus watches the dazzling display by the elf, punctuated by the warpriest waving his rapier to make sure the villain stays down. Still invisible, Cyrus imagines what it would have been like if he had the chance to finish the job...
Attack #1 vs FlatFooted, Haste, IC: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 27 for Damage, IC, SA: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 + (6, 3) = 15
Attack #2 vs FlatFooted, Haste, IC: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 24 for Damage, IC, SA: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 + (3, 1) = 9
In his mind's eye, Cyrus' blade punctures the mans spleen on his first cut, and quickened by the magic, his blade reverses course to pierce a hole in his lungs, neatly between two of his ribs and a fold of the man's leather armor.
Just had to know!
Back to reality, and just before fiveknives finishes bleeding out, closing his eyes for good, Cyrus walks over and kicks him in the side, just enough to make the invisibility spell blink out.
"Maybe if we toss you on the edge of the woods, that cat you tortured will have something to eat tonight." Cyrus says, leaning over the dying man.
The battle over, and the adrenaline wearing off, Cyrus takes a deep breath, and begins to look around for the missing frogmen, calling out to them to let them know it is safe.
It occurs to him that there is a slight hint of worry in his mind for them, afraid of what the consortium might have done, or has already done before he and his friends arrived. It also occurs to him, once again, that there isn't a hint of remorse, or regret for the lives lost in the heat of this battle.
Where did that part of me go?
Finarin Moonstep

Standing over the body of Fiveknives, Finarin savors each cut created by his flashing scimitar, each mini-pool of blood drifting away from his cooling corpse. He turns to his friends assembled on the platform around him, for the first time truly registering he was not alone with Fiveknives.
"This ... piece of s!%& human. We did well to kill him."
Turning to Kaisharga, Finarin looks the eldion in his eye, and bows, a deep, regal bow. Straightening once again, "Kaisharga, you have my ... eternal gratitude. if not for your ... timely intervention .... methinks I would have wound up once again flat on my back on the ground. Your .... master ... spoke rightly of your prowess. I am in your .... debt."
Finarin looks at the death and destruction cause once again by the Aspis Consortium. Sadness overcomes him, but no tear is shed.
Nethys you fickle son a b*!~~, thank you for aiding me today. I erred in the past. In the future I promise not to spurn the magical gifts that you have granted me.

The gripplis gradually return to the elder's hut. When reality dawns upon them, the start cheering for the Pathfinders, "Our saviours! The Heroes! Hooray for the Pathfinders!" they chant. Eventually, though, as more and more of the tribe return it sounds like one long continuous croak.
Minutes later, when the cacophony subsides, Mother Bogwynne approaches the group and smiles (or grimaces), "Thank you, my friends, thank you! Not only have you saved us from the vicious hands of the Aspis Consortium, but you have delivered to us four times what we had asked or even dared hope for you to bring. You have slain bold lizardfolk lieutenants and bring news that many perished against the Great Scaled Ones. It is time!" she raises a hand and lifts her head as if performing a blessing, “More than a thousand cycles ago, the dwarven refugees came to us from the distant north, fleeing a home lost ages ago. We aided the dwarves and welcomed them as neighbors in the nearby hills - a land even harsher than our own. When they fled their home for a second time, we offered them aid once more, though they requested only that we honor their memory and accept a gift: this talisman that bears the power to defeat the golden beast that now haunts Ashkurhall.”
Mother Bogwynne holds up a melon-sized ovoid made of clay, “The descendants of Sigrin spoke of this as their greatest treasure, which they had left behind. It is a legacy that continues to this day, for none have ever braved the Golden Guardian to claim the riches as their own!”
A chorus of croaking vocalizations follows the elder’s story. She speaks again in a voice that is both soft and severe, “The talisman’s power is hidden within, and it must be unsealed in the beast’s presence. To do so too soon would expend its energy needlessly and may even invoke a terrible disaster. We entrust you with this relic of our people. Use it wisely.”
With that, the grippli elder hands the orb over to the elf of the hour: Finarin Aspis-Slayer!
* * * * * * *
Mother Bogwynne sits down during the feast honoring the brave heroes. It is most irregular to have one so hastily arranged, but they had said that they must leave in a hurry. Dancing and frivolity are not her thing and she bows as the warpriest of Cayden Cailean fills her mug with his mystical ale. She politely accepts it before discretely setting it aside.
"Tell me, Gunari," croaks Mother Bogwynne, "Just precisely what trade deals did you have in mind...."
The end, for now! Epilogue away. When you're done, I'd like to do a What If...? See the discussion thread for more!
Gunari Maximoff
|
"Mother Bogwynne, I think that there is a great potential for trade between out peoples. Now that you won't have to live in fear of the lizardmen, I would assume you'll be able to start harvesting the riches of the forest around you. You'll still want access to metallurgical materiel, so I would propose that we..."
The conversation goes on for hours, with increasing amounts of beer lubricating the conversation. It turns out that there is little that the grippli can currently trade with the Pathfinders, though Gunari (and anyone who is willing to listen to their conversation) learns a great deal about grippli traditions and trades. And how to frogs treat monkeys!
Amaranti

After battle
"Better dead, as I say..." Amaranti comments on the sight of butchered Aspis leader, but no smile is seen on the man's face. No pleasure in this kill. But must be done... The big Garundi is about the wipe his lance clean, but then remembers his weapon did not draw blood in this fight. He sighs heavily, shaking his head.
Kaisharga

Kaisharga looks back at Finarin. For a long time it remains still, unknown thoughts behind its glowing green eyes. Then the eidolon tilts its head slightly, and its mouth opens slightly, awkwardly trying to form words.
"No need..."
"...for gratitude"
"Protection ... is what I do"
The forked tongue flickers back and forth a few times, the eidolon remaining still once more. Then with a quick movement, the serpent turns to move away, back to its master. But it stops, turns back to Finarin. "You kill good ... for mortal," it says before withdrawing.
What is this? Has the eidolon been taking speech lessons from the elf!?!!
| GM Damo |
In an alternate dimension...
The Pathfinders exit the ravine. The Aspis agents are all dead at the hand of Mother T-Rex and adrenaline courses through their veins. At least she can't get out of that ravine... they all think simultaneously. That is when the crashing and bashing of enormous reptilian feet causes the heightened state of awareness to kick in again: it's out of the ravine!
Running for it, the Pathfinders find what they recognize as hunter's machans in a clearing that reminds them very much of when they fought the Leucrotta with Baron Rudyam. Realizing they will be caught eventually and they will have no better place for a final confrontation, they quickly get into position and prepare for the worst!
Oh, and she's coming from the east.
You may position yourselves wherever you like. The machans are 20ft in the air and have knotted ropes so you can brace against the tree to ascend (climb DC 5). But the T-Rex is also 20ft in the air... so I'd recommend against using them unless you have some special use for them.
You may cast 2 (and only 2) buff spells of duration of 1 minute or less - but everyone has barkskin (+2 natural AC) already active from before and Kaisharga has mage armor (anyone else may have any 10 minute+ ability active as well). All of your daily abilities reset to full use also as your adrenal glands jump-start your bodies.
Ibid explains everything he knows about these terrifying lizards as the Pathfinders set up, Miro has an annoying amount of information to add. Have the full monster reference, you'll need it: Tyrannosaurus Rex PRD reference
If you can find a more advantageous start to any battle, I want to hear about it! Post when you're ready. Grid coordinates are there if you need Lockwooding.

Hmmmmm....so no 'heroism' until battle commences, then, as it lasts 40 minutes. I really don't think I have much else, so I'll just cast Resistance on Gunari & Amaranti, our primary get up in your grill peoples. Can't see the map right now, so Lockwood me about 30 feet back of the beast, or 10 feet behind the closest person, whichever is farther away, please.

Then I cast 'heroism' on Cyrus and Finarin, since I believe their 'to hit' lags the other two, but have awesome situational damage. Unless you guys think I should chance a glitterdust and attempt to blind the thing?

Clever girl... the old man thinks to himself, realizing the mother tyrannosaurus has escaped the ravine which Ibid had deemed a prison. As he draws his bow, feeling the ground shake and tremble beneath underfoot, he involuntarily steps back from the approaching cacophony of uprooted and falling trees.
"Shoot her.... shoot her..." he says cooly under his breath, loading an arrow.

Buff #2: Ibid casts heightened awarness, +4 to init (init = +7 for this encounter)

I disliked what they did with the character in the movie (although the movie itself was very good, especially for its time). In the book, the guy is much more savvy, and actually survives.
Miro will also have his sling out so he can add his couple of points of damage to the mix.

Miro, if you have the spell left to cast before the fight starts, could you cast gravity bow on Ibid, using the wand (of his) you have?
Miro Ammars

Heroism for Finarin, and Gravity Bow for Ibid, then. The extra damage probably outweights the to-hit benefits, anyway.
| GM Damo |
You can cast 2 heroisms! Essentially, you cast the longer duration spells as you're running to and fro, avoiding the dinosaur. The 2 rounds of shorter duration spells represent you buffing yourselves when her arrival is imminent in the brief moments before she arrives on the scene.
Miro Ammars

Perfect! Sorry for the confusion...
Current buffs so far: Heroism on Finarin, Heroism on Cyrus, Gravity Bow on Ibid.

does Gunari have the Bulls strength still?
Gunari will cast Shield of Faith on himself and Finarin, and will use a swift action to also cast Divine Favor on himself in the second round.
"Amaranti, through that snake against her, hoping to take her initial attacks. Then you can use your other summons to keep her distracted. I hope. "
place Gunari next to Finarin, please.
Cyrus the Flea

Cyrus will start with the potion of invisibility, and scroll of fly active. I will cast the other scroll of fly on ibid... No sense in having our ranged guy in range to be attacked. I could be convinced to use the scroll of fly on someone else if it makes sense, couldn't think of anything.... I'll post my position when I get to a computer... Since all of this can be active for several minutes, Cyrus' short term buff will be shield with the wand, and a charge of shield for finarin, though I am guessing it won't matter if he tries to hit us! :) sorry for the delay, yesterday was rough. I should have my token on this morning
