I think our best bet at this point is to backtrack and follow the prints that split off (when we were following Vaelos.) Whoever set us up probably intended us to die at the hands of the gnolls, or vice versa. Returning to the town will only confirm our survival, and thus show our hand. In my view, we should follow that trail, before heading back to town.

Well this may seem gratuitous so close to the campaign birthday but... Tis the season, so what the hell. :)

Suh-weeeeet! Decisions, decisions...
Thanks, SR! I'm really enjoying this game, even though work has kept me a little too busy to check in as much as I'd like. I also really appreciate the chance to use my tracking skills!

Straehan |

Ushari slips into her expensive silken blue dress, admiring how it just seems to cleave to her body...as a matter of fact, it seems to be fitting rather...ummmm tightly around the chest area...
"Guys, do I look like I have filled out?"
+1 to CHA
"As a matter of fact... you do! Got a furry little bun in that oven, 'Shari?"
Not to be outdone, I'm also taking CHA +1. :p

Not a problem, my man. You gotta clock time on a new job. I'm glad you are on the team and I'm delighted to give you a shot to do some rangerin'. My goal is to take advantage of everyone's skills when I can work them into different adventures. I'm still trying to find an awesome way for Jayse to really put those Spider Climb slippers to perfect use. :)

Jayse |

We don't also get a free "I was at Isles 4k and all I got was this t-shirt" t-shirts?
oh well, I'll very appreciatively take the +1 to Strength (kicking it up to an even 20).
Again, thanks for running the game, Strae... it's been a blast so far.
As for finding us a good adventure to put my spider climb boots to good use... I have two ideas. 1) Urban adventure that highlights midnight rooftop combats/chases. 2) Swap them out for Boots of Speed. :D

OK, after poring over the rules and finding nothing that I consider definitive or exactly on-point, I'm going to use my best beliefs in how this search should work. At half-speed (tracking speed according to the rules) Jofram can cover 1.5 miles in an hour. I don't think non-rangers should be able to search at that pace using perception, at night, over granite, while trying to spot evidence of an opponent intentionally being evasive. It comes down to how quickly can a character 'actively perceive' in a 5' square... and of course perception falls off for every 10'. So, to keep the ranger mystique alive, I've figured that all non-ranger characters can search approximately .5 miles in an hour. I'm going to have Jayse, Ushari, and Shaggar 'leapfrog' each other in their search area - with some overlap (so AA bonuses for each person) due to the fact that Perception, as mentioned before, is not confined to 5' square. What that means is that both teams will cover 1.5 miles in the allotted hour.
I hope that solution seems fair to you.

Gents, what is your availability to play over the holidays? Should we go on hiatus?
I'm going to be flying out to the East Coast tomorrow and then working from there for a few days before doing the Xmas thing. I'll have variable internet access but I'm happy to keep posting, etc. if you guys have the time and desire.

stormraven |

Aw, I dunno if a full on hiatus is truly necessary unless Jimmy is going to be totally offline. I mean, nothing says "Christmas" to me like being @$$-deep in alligators and undead that are trying to kill you...
Of course, I grew up in California so maybe my standards of 'traditional Xmas' are a little odd. :p

stormraven |

No problemo. I'm good to play at a more relaxed pace providing you guys are all in. Just waiting to hear what Master James' plans are... If he will have no time, we can hiatus. If he can post as infrequently as the rest of us then I'll keep things moving and we'll get however far we get.

Ushari Velnokal |

Jayse, I am all right with retconning the use of her wand to heal up her charges. Since she used 3 channels for Jayse, 3 for Jofram, 2 for herself, 1 for Straehan, and 3 (+1 for her spell) which is 4 for Shaggar, that is a total of 13 charges used.
SR: if you want me to roll for the individual charges I can, although 2d8+3 is pretty close to 3d6 so a 1 for 1 swap is easiest, IMO.

stormraven |

*Sigh*
How am I supposed to maintain my rep as a 'Killer and Brutally Unfair DM' if I let you guys slide out of disastrous decisions? Honestly, you are really making me work for that TPK.
Well, it is Christmas, so I suppose I should be nice just this once... if only to ensure I don't get coal in my stocking.
Knock off your 13 charges, put back your 3 Channels, and I'll set the HP for all characters at full, just to keep the math simple.
And you can't tell anyone I was being nice... I have a rep to consider.

Ushari Velnokal |

Ushari looks over Straehan's performance review and notes the area under the "Trap-finding" part of his job description...
"I regret to inform you Straehan that due to your performance recently, we are going to have to let you go....you will of course receive the standard severance package...blah blah blah..."
Tough company I suppose...he he
BTW sorry about yer flu...hope you feel better.

Jofram |

Merry Christmas, gang. Be sure to roll a good stealth or bluff check, to get by Santa & his minions.

Oh... now I have a new BBEG and minions to create!

FYI - I wasn't dissing Ushari by leaving her out of the Haste. It was a tactical choice. Straehan had to move forward and be one of the Hasted to get Jayse in the Area of Effect. As the guy out front, Jayse needed the edge. Since I can only haste 6 targets, someone had to get left out. Since Vaelos is the most mobile, our only aerial unit, and would be a good choice to potentially assist Jayse in harrying or distracting Dinwat (i.e. wreck his spellcasting) I figured he could use his full mobility back.
EDIT - Just re-read the spell, I was applying it wrong. Gotta alter my post. Jayse is out of luck.

stormraven |

Hey Jofram - I'm answering your question here instead the game thread because it will change the rolls I made for what happens with Jayse.
Haste and Slow cancel one another. You, Shaggar, Skitter, and Vaelos were slowed. When Straehan cast Haste, it removed the slow effect. Since Straehan and Ushari were not slowed - they got the full Haste effect. If Straehan were to cast Haste again - you would be Hasted. Given the tactical situation... Haste isn't my first option. Old Straehan is going LOUD.

stormraven |

Hey guys, I'm catching an early flight tomorrow and will be offline most of the day. I'll post when I can.
Ushari, you can only spend a single Hero Point in a round except when staving off death. And you can diplo anyone... So you don't need to drop a point just to try. I'll leave the one you spent for the +8, however. That was a pretty good hail Mary. Are you going to declare Skitter's actions?
