STONE-FACED KILLA

Wow. Jofram may be the new poster-child for the stereotypical male absentee-ism.

A handful of women in need wander by and he very literally disappears!

Sheesh, MEN!

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

Maybe I just think I can be of more help by waiting for a more opportune moment. Or maybe I just like my head firmly in place above my shoulders.

I don't mean to be a butt-inski, but the stealth check would definitely be needed BEFORE the vanish spell took effect, so he would not get the +20 to Stealth.

IOW, the pirates would most likely hear something and be alerted, but when they try to pinpoint him, they would probably fail.

...Not that I have a vested interest in seeing anything happen to Jofram, he he.

STONE-FACED KILLA

How so?

Jof says his spell (quietly). This possibly alerts them to his position, but he's immediately invisible, and his followup move gives him the opportunity to use a stealth check... since he's invisible.

Is that not how it works?

I'm not clear on why you say the stealth check should happen first, but I figured they would hear the verbal spell components, but they would hear it around the corner. I'm more concerned with them hearing my footsteps.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Jofram was already stealthed and around the corner. Since I left the pirates discussing which course they are going to take, I think that noise would easily mask Jofram quietly casting his spell.

I know some DMs would insist on several rolls for this type of activity. Frankly, I find that excessive and I tend to treat such stuff more situationally. In this situation, I see no reason to roll a new stealth check v perception until Jofram actually sneaks into the room.

Sorry about that SR. I don't mean to step on any toes here, but it was either post this question, or make up a dream sequence for Ushari here...and considering what (and who) she likes...probably best not to go there, he he.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

No worries! My toes haven't been stepped on.

I like hearing how you guys adjudicate things - you sometimes bring up things in the rules I don't know about and/or it causes me to consider whether there are better way to rule on things than I might otherwise do since all DMs tend to fall back on their old habits.

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

Ah... I totally wanted to go all Batman on this guy and pull him away from the group, but I couldn't figure out how to grapple/silence/pull him away all at the same time. Looks like we kill them the hard way...

STONE-FACED KILLA

Psh... Batman cares not for your rules!

At least you're not fighting an untouchable, lightning-spewing lantern. :(

And all for want of a bucket of water...

STONE-FACED KILLA

?

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

It's a lantern. I think you could just douse it, and be done with it.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

LOL. Yeah, I'm that straight-forward as a DM. :p

STONE-FACED KILLA

Wait!! Are we still benefitting from the unicorn? I definitely haven't been factoring those into Jayse's rolls.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Didn't realize the stupid lantern thing had turned a corner, but given the map we had before I probably should have seen that.

And to the perfect strike/Crit confirm thing... AWESOME!!!

50 pts in one shot is an all-time high for Jayse. :D

(golf clap)...

STONE-FACED KILLA

Eric I just wanna apologize on behalf of Justin's dice... apparently they've got it out for you. Jayse'll be over there as soon as he can.

Sheesh.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Being honest here... if I coulda reasonably fudged a way for Iron Bar to blow that save, I would have. Ushari's luck when it comes to Hold Person saves has been bad.

I'm playing with the notion of using Action Points or Hero Points here.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Hey, I'm game.

That's just what we need... MO' POWER!!

Hmmm...maybe instead of Hero points, Ushari can start each combat by rubbing Jayse's...foot for good luck, he he.

Seriously, I am fine with the idea of Hero Points, as I am the one who mentioned it...:P

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

I'll read through the Hero Points stuff again. I may choose to go with a tweaked version of those depending on how powerful it is... or I might borrow Ben's Action Points system (used in Rynmoth) to some extent. My concern with that is that it may turn your pretty powerful characters into Juggernauts of DOOM.

I'll give it some more thought and let you guys know how I'd like to play it. I do a version of Hero Points (under a different name) in my IRL game so I'm inclined to bring some flavor of that over here.

And, Ben, you are right. You do need more power. ONLY 50 Damage in a single hit? Sheesh! Do you have a matching purse for that girlie hit?

"Don't worry Jayse. You can borrow my purse if you need to. I just need to clean it out to make sure nothing embarrassing of mine is in there...he he."

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

For what it's worth, Ushari, I feel your pain, with that 3 I just rolled.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Wow. That's a serious sword, there, Jofram... a d20 for damage?! O.o

Love me some dice typos. :)

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Clearly, he put a little extra muscle behind it... unlike Jayse who hits like a prom queen. :p

STONE-FACED KILLA

Watch it now!

Don't wanna draw ma ire!

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

True. I expect you'll be using that Hero Point to "Punch the DM in the mouth without repercussions one time".

: Vigorously checks rules : Hey, who put THAT in the rules!

"How come nobody worries about upsetting the cleric?"

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

"Cuz Clerics don't rip people's arms off when they lose. Monks are known to do that."

STONE-FACED KILLA

Point, set, and match... Justin!

Yeah posting from my phone really isn't working. Luckily, I should be on an actual computer for the forseeable future.

Besides, my blade isn't imaginary, like yours

STONE-FACED KILLA

what is with all the Jayse hate here, people?!

Geez, cant' a guy get a little love for once? Sheesh!

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Talk to Milaflora about 'getting a little love'. :)

Oh, SNAP, a game-relate with link!

Gee, did we not just divide loot recently...he he.

Anyway, I suggest Ushari claim the leather armor, and Jofram get the cutlass and breastplate. If you don't want them, then they can stay in the party loot.

Updated party loot, BTW.

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

Ushari - Thanks, but the gear I have is comparable or better for my purposes at the moment. If anyone else wants it, have at - otherwise, we can stow it in my Bag as party loot.

Jofram, no sweat. In that case she will claim the leather armor and the other gear we can store in the Bag of Holding.

Updated equipment list.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Sorry for the late heads up, but posting is gonna be hard today. I'm home with my boy. If you need to NPC Jayse to keep things moving, that's fine by me.

Im not sure what this weekend will look like. We still have in-laws at our house.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Thanks for updating the list, Eric. Also, don't forget that Fin-bot has a bag of holding as well... so if you guys want to collect a bunch of mundane items for sale (if you are feeling cash poor) feel free.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

OK, just a thought or two...

Everyone is at full HP except Jayse (the Crit-o-matic Monk) and Fin-bot.

Ja's HPs: 22|42
F's HPs: 17|49

It is entirely up to you folks how you want to hold on to or expend your spells, etc. That is a player prerogative and I can't step into it. If you guys want to discuss it here or in-thread with RP, go for it.

I will offer my opinion and personal philosophy (as a player) here, but whether you agree or act on it is entirely up to you. This is just my opinion.

As two of the front-liners, I'd be worried that Jayse and Fin-bot are at 50% or less HP. If I were the healer, I'd be burning through my spells (but saving my remaining channels for when everyone is hurt) to get the bricks as healed as possible. If you want Fin-bot to guard the girls, skimping on spells for her would make some sense.

When I play, I assume there is some monster around the bend that I haven't seen yet. Based on that, I believe in healing people out of combat as much as possible so they last a whole lot longer in the next battle. I don't like having to stop an attack to heal people up unless it is necessary. Battles can be lost by a lack of healing but they are also rarely won when the characters are totally defensive.

Just my two cents.

Sorry, Ushari - I forget to include the Unicorn bonus to your channels, I'll retroactively increase the points for Jayse and Fin to reflect it:

Ja's HPs: 30|42
F's HPs: 25|49

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

I feel pretty confident about stepping up, if Fin-bot wants to hang back and hit with her bow (assuming we stay together.)

I see your point, SR.

My philosophy has been to strike a balance between expending healing and saving those slots for useful spells to assist the party. Many of Ushari’s spells are useful in combat, Hold Person being a prime example. I just think Ushari has more value than just as a heal bot. (gotta find a wand of CLW somewhere…)

I think Ushari would not leave the front line warriors hurting, not even Fin. Before the group sets out again, she would heal everyone to the best of her ability. I will wait for a chance for the other players to chime in for a while, before I post her heal rolls.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

There's no doubt Jofram can step up. I hope I wasn't sounding critical of his abilities. I didn't mention him since he is at full HP. From my perspective, there are 3 front-liners and two of them are a bit dinged up which, if I were playing, would scare me a bit.

Ushari - I understand wanting to keep a few aces in the hole and I don't see your character as a heal-bot. Here is how I'd see events happening if a combat were to happen around the next bend:

Scenario 1: Ushari keeps all her aces and doesn't heal anyone any further

You guys stumble into bad guys on par with what you've hit so far. Any decent attack on Fin and/or Jayse could drop either or both to single digit HPs or out. Ushari then has to defensively use her channel or a spell to get them in good stead (being a heal bot) or risk being down one or two fighters. Or she takes the risk and goes with an ace attack and hopes that it finishes the combat. If not, she has to worry that the next round of attacks puts Jayse and/or Fin down and she is definitely forced into healbot mode.

Scenario 2: Ushari heals them some and keeps just an ace or maybe two

You guys stumble into the baddies. Jayse and Fin can take the first round of hits being closer to full HP. Ushari can deploy her ace without immediately having to say "should I heal them or not?". Round 2, if the front-line gets pounded, now Ushari has to debate whether to heal or risk another ace. If you guys remain unscathed - Ushari gets to fire off her second ace, go for a flank, or do the magic that she does.

I guess, from my perspective, healing early cuts down on the number of aces you have but it gives you a higher probability of being able to deploy one instead of having to worry about your teammates' health.

Again, if I were a player, that's how I would see it. You are totally free to do whatever works for you. If you guys want to go ballsy and run through this with fewer HPs and more options - go for it.

HP: 51/79 | | Anatomist (+1 to confirm Crits) | | Fav. Enemy +4 = Humans, Half-Humans, Undead

Scenario 3: Dinosaurs shooting at us with machine guns, while riding motorcycles.

LOL! That scenario gets my vote!

SR...

MAKE IT SO!

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

First of all, Dinos with machine guns is a CR:3 encounter max. Here is my twist on it...

Scenario 3: Totenkopf battalion SS NAZI Stormtrooper Dinos (in full uniforms) riding in a Flakpanzer, talking with the quad AA guns and tossing potato mashers... now THAT is a worthy scenario!

Point of order…

Ushari has Uncanny Dodge so she should not have been caught Flat footed. Also she did put on the magical leather armor, so her AC is currently 21.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Fair enough - the CLAW jumped on Ushari but the creature failed to penetrate her snazzy new armor. I'll correct her HPs before the next update.

FWIW - I went by the FF AC listed on your character sheet which says '15'. :)

Help me to help you. Help ME to help YOU...
And you had me at 'hello'. :)

STONE-FACED KILLA

What's all those things falling out of Stormie's wallet?

Ooooooooooooh... those are his man-points.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

What? I had man-points left?!?!?
