Camillo:
Peering out of the top of the trap door Camillo is met with open sky and rain but no other goblins. He does however hear the sounds of laughing and talk in goblin coming from somewhere in the distance further into the complex. A yard perhaps? It would be possible to look out at the rest of the complex from up here; one only need brave the landing and the possibility of being seen if not careful.

Camillo easily treads up the stairs and pokes his head out of the trap door.

Toshio moves to cover the new door.

DM Devon:
Camillo understands Goblin - is any of the conversation useful?

He will try to orient himself as to the direction of the laughter and see what he can with no more than his shoulders through the trapdoor.

Then he will return down the stairs to share what he's seen.

"Quiet...I believe I hear...nothing. Let us proceed."

Camillo:
Sorry for some reason I thought you didn't speak goblin Amongst the whoops and cheers you hear "rain make flame not rise, we mebbe cook him inside?" and "no no no we skin him in the yard DEN cook him!". Sadly at no more than shoulder height Camillo is still below the level of the watchtower walls. A final "well go get Gragot from bed he has the best chopper for skinning other than the chief" breaks through the rain and thunder. (Everything is coming from the NW but obviously "below" you. There is probably a central yard in the keep for weapon play and what have you.

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

As the others scan the room and the tower above, and seeing no other immediate threats, Rullis steps into the room and stands guard facing the other way. He keeps an eye out for any threats coming from behind.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo descends the stairs. "There's a lot of whooping hollering to the northwest. Something about skinning and cooking someone. On the one hand, it sounds like most of the tribe is there - but I don't want to be too late if they have captured someone and are getting ready to kill him."

"I didn't want to give away our presence, but I think I might be able to see something if I climb a little further up in the tower."

Male Half Orc Barbarian 5/ Oracle 1/ RP 1, Perception +7, Darkvision, Fort +8/ Ref +1/ Will +3, Init +4, AC 18, HP :76

Let us just bring them the word of Gorum and be done with it.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"Well, if we are taking it to them, I suspect the double doors over there are the route to take." Camillo points into the other room at door #3, I believe.

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

You are certain. Then let us take them. If numbers are not in our favor we could use the door as a choke point and kill them one at a time. Master Vidar, do you have any spell that could cover a room as we open the door?

Male Human (Ulfen) Wizard (Enhancer) 6 HP 43/43 | AC 15 T 12 FF 10 | Ft +3 Rf +3 Wi +6 | Init +2 | Perc +6

"I regret to say no, spells of that magnitude is still beyond me. I am a diviner and enhancer, not an invoker I am afraid."

Instead, Vidar brings out his longbow and places an arrow on the bow string.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"Shall we open the doors and let Masters Vidar and Kerrec get their attention with their bows while we await on either side of the doors for those that would charge them?" He looks at the other doors in the room. "We will need to remain careful of those - we have not checked them all to determine where they lead."

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

"May the blessing of Gorzeh aid you." After the doors are opened and Rullis can see that there really is a large group of combatants to fight, he'll cast Bless on the group. (+1 to Attack rolls and saves against fear for 2 minutes.)

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec raises his crossbow in a signal that he is ready to get the goblins attention in the courtyard. He feels the confidence Gozrah's blessing imbues.

Male Half Orc Barbarian 5/ Oracle 1/ RP 1, Perception +7, Darkvision, Fort +8/ Ref +1/ Will +3, Init +4, AC 18, HP :76

Kithian grips his falchion and nods at Camillo. "Open it."

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

Toshio looks at Camillo with a 'nice try' look on his face.
Kithan and I should step in front of the doors, immediately following Vidar and Kerric's shots. Archers DON'T like being charged and in Melee.
He does give him a smile.

At least he is thinking agressively

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

The bard grins back, "I wasn't expecting to leave them exposed forever." Sheathing his sword and gripping his shield, he grabs the door and gives it an experimental tug, checks with the others, and pulls it open, stepping out of the way as he does so.

I had to extrapolate a little based on descriptions but should work okay.

Rullis and Vidar pull the double doors open with Kerrec and Vidar ready to shoot while Toshio and Kithian prepare to step into the open doorway to block the archers.

Init Order:

Camillo
Rullis
Kerrec
Vidar
Toshio
Kithian

The door swings open to reveal another hallway! Rullis, preparing to bless his allies, allows the words to fall silent on his lips as the rest of the group stalls in place at the sudden sight of something other than what they were expecting.

The small doorway next to the double doors (#2), previously uninteresting in the mounting tension creaks open as a small goblin eagerly chatting and laughing at compatriots beyond, begins to step into the hallway. His eyes bulge in his head as he is caught completely off guard by the presence of a group of humanoid attackers.

I am going to rule that though this turn of events is surprising that none of you are caught unawares so I won't roll for surprise. However this next round will be a surprise round so only 1 action.

Beyond the goblin is an expansive yard obviously used for practice and other affairs. A mix of goblins and many goblin dogs are milling about a large pyre that has been built in the center that hold none other than the "dark-eyed warrior" , Orik, who has obviously been badly beaten. He sags unconscious, tied against a vertical timber erected for the affair.

Since the layout is slightly different than everyone initially imagined I won't assume your actions stand (though you may choose to do the same thing) Just remember its a surprise round at first.

GM Screen:

Goblin Surprise? (All but doorway for sure.)

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Updated map HERE

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

Seeing the goblin and hearing the commotion through the now open door, Rullis completes the spell, though Camillo manages to react before he gets it off. Everyone feels a little extra courage to aid them in this coming combat.

Bless - Everyone gains +1 on attacks and saves vs. fear. Expires on Round 20.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

If conditions are correct, Camillo will "partial charge" the goblin.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Including +2 for charge, not including Bless yet

Damage 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (2) = 13 Including Arcane Strike and Sneak Attack

AC 18 this round

If that action won't work, I will (1) simply move so as best to give one of my allies a flank on the goblin or (2) position myself adjacent to the door.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'll allow the partial charge, even though in a "straight line" from you to him is partial cover from the doorway I think it is completely reasonable that Camillo hops the diagonal as intended.

Camillo pivots on his left foot and closes the gap between him and the goblin in the doorway, his longsword pulling forward in a perfect duelist's strike. The blade enters through goblin's throat abnd back out in a perfect motion, the utter shock still telegraphed on the goblin's face.

A moment later Rullis' finishes his prayer and the group feels the subtle unconscious confidence of The Wind and the Waves.

Male Human (Ulfen) Wizard (Enhancer) 6 HP 43/43 | AC 15 T 12 FF 10 | Ft +3 Rf +3 Wi +6 | Init +2 | Perc +6

Vidar uses the momentary surprise to tactically shift his position so gets a free insight into the room where the action is currently taking place.

I don't remember who is brown, but Vidar will use the surprise action to stand behind him.

Its really a kind of maroon...I need to save larger versions of it to post. That said there is a key on the bottom left ;p Toshio is maroon because he never told me a color that I could use :-D

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec sees the goblin fall at Camillo's feet. He notices a goblin behind the one that has fallen and fires his light crossbow at the creature.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

I don't know if there are any penalties for cover right now.

HOLY S%%*!

Dude, Kithian we are totally sucking here. I'll throw Reggie on the map on the next update!

One more thing; I was making a matrix for myself to reference some things earlier and Kerrec YOUR WILL SAVE IS RIDICULOUS! That is all.

Partial cover but not an issue with that roll

Kerrec's bolt flies from the the crossbow past Camillo into the yard taking the goblin off its feet. As it falls to the earth, the rain falling around it, small flicks of lightning lick off the bolt end as the goblin lies twitching for a moment before dying outright.

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

Toshio sees the Goblin Dog along his charge line, but, unable to see how many foes are inside instead does a conservative move to the door and turns left moving along the wall. He comes face to face with another goblin and attacks.

Kithiam moves forward stepping over the dead goblin and moving into the courtyard, a smile forms on his face and a hard glint shines in his eyes.
He follows the wall to the right coming into striking range with a goblin.

Well I figured if I was going to create a Justicar style Paladin then he'd want to be as well protected as possible from any sort of mind-effecting spells and abilities. Plus it helps that Paladins get real nice chrome for their saves.

Sorry to be a party pooper but Toshio and Kithian only get one standard action this round...but you could delay your actions to top of the next round and keep what you described and rest at a higher initiative moving forward. Let me know what you prefer.

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

Yeah do that.

Male Half Orc Barbarian 5/ Oracle 1/ RP 1, Perception +7, Darkvision, Fort +8/ Ref +1/ Will +3, Init +4, AC 18, HP :76

Yuuupp.

Hmmm reviewing the map there might be some issues, but I am going to interpret events the most in your favor and will update the map accordingly. I'll get it up soon.

Updated map HERE

Init order is now:

Toshio
Kithian
Camillo
Rullis
Kerrec
Vidar
Goblins (Poor Bastards)

Toshios surges forward through the door overstepping the goblins that both Camillo and Kerrec have dispatched. Turning left and seing a nother goblin nearby Toshio sweeps forward and slices down the green pest while its tongue still lolls in confusion. Kithan, take the right side. Hold the door and link up!

Kithian moves around the corner and his heretofore silent partner Reggie follow closely on his heels. Breaking right Kithian sees no goblins but the ugly creatures known as "goblin dogs" litter the yard and Kithian and Reggie each dispatch one in an ugly fashion leaving 6 dogs and one lone goblin to hold the yard.

Cam and the rest you are up.

Male Human (Ulfen) Wizard (Enhancer) 6 HP 43/43 | AC 15 T 12 FF 10 | Ft +3 Rf +3 Wi +6 | Init +2 | Perc +6

Vidar trails behind Toshio, one arrow on the bowstring.
As he enters the yard he quickly scans the surroundings, taking in the situation within seconds.
Sensing that the most prudent course of action is to get rid of the enemies near to the captive, he takes up position behind Toshio.
Leaning to one side, he fires the arrow at the ugly looking creature straight in front of the samurai.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Unfortunately, his aim is less than true, and the arrow leaves the bow before he has the target fully in sight.

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

Rullis charges in after the others, his spear held high looking for targets. He follows along the right-most wall and comes into a position behind Kithian and Reggie. With nothing in it's spear range, he draws on the storm's energy and outstretches a hand and fires off a blast of electricity towards the only goblin he sees. But he doesn't do any better than Vidar.

Standard Action: Lightning Arc 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 (Ranged Touch Attack)
Electrical Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

One goes left, one goes right, that leaves the middle for me!

Camillo rushes in behind the wizard archer and storm cleric, sword and shield ready, and is surprised to see only one goblin standing. Vidar and Rullis appear to have him in their sights, so Camillo moves near the captive and swings down at one of the ugly dogs.

I believe I can reach Orik's NE corner and strike the goblin dog diagonally NW of my new position. Can you number the targets to make it easier to specify?

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 using Arcane Strike

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec loads his crossbow and moves next to Reggie's left hoping to get a better shot at the goblin.

Yeah yeah geez I'll label the damn map to make it "easy" and "efficient". Anything else I can get for you Camillo? Slippers? Your smoking jacket? ;-p I'll have an update later on today.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Whoa! Hey, it was just a thought - if it's a hassle, it works as is.

(But I'm partial to root beer floats, while you're asking.)

One root beer float coming right....hey wait a minute!

GM Screen:

A 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 vs. Toshio
C 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 vs. Camillo
D 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 vs. Kerrec
E 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 vs. Kithian

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

The courtyard turns to chaos as the group rushes in. Vidar and Rullis miss their marks but Kerrec sets himself up for a shot while Camillo positions himself and strikes down a goblin dog near Orik's pyre.

Goblin dogs surge in an effort to attack the enemy while the remaining goblin attempts to run to a double door in the southwest corner of the yard. While the goblin dogs on Toshio and Camillo fall short of hurting the men, Kerrec and Kithian are both bitten by the beasts as they close the distance.

Kerrec take 4 points of damage I need a DC 12 Fort save or suffer -2 CHA and DEX for 1 day due to an allergic reaction from the goblin dogs dander.

Kithian take 7 points of damage and you need a DC 12 Fort save as well.

Round 3 Init:

Toshio
Kithian
Camillo
Rullis
Kerrec
Vidar
Goblins (Poor Bastards)

I'm assuming Goblin Dog E came across the top and then down to Kithian so that Rullis with his reach weapon does not get an AoO.

Rullis holds his position behind Kithian and his dog and fires another shot off of electrical energy at the fleeing goblin, hoping his aim is better this time as he shoots on the other side of the fire pyre.

Lightning Arc Attack (Ranged Touch Attack): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Electrical Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Forgot about bless, thanks for the reminder.

Camillo will try to strike another goblin dog C down. If he succeeds in dropping the beast, he will step 5' north to set the other D up for one of his allies. If not, he will hold his position. No sense in giving them a flank, after all.

Kerrec holds his breath and closes his eyes for a second as the dirty pooch bites him in the leg. "These dogs are filthy."

Kerrec takes a 5' step back next to Reggie and out of reach of any dogs. If Rullis' attack does not cut down the escaping Goblin he will fire at the creature. If it did then he will aim at dog B.

Realizing the goblin may be trying to get away, and fearing it may bring reinforcements before the battle is concluded, Vidar points at it and whispers an arcane word under his breath.

Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Rullis:
My understanding is that you don't threaten the second square of the diagonal with 10' reach, which is where the dog moved through, though to be honest he should never have left that square as he just moved to engage and wouldn't have pulled through, a moot point as Kithian will kill it. A valid question all the same. Does your understanding not match up?

@Kithian - 2 things: 1. Fort Save 2. Reggie is up to you I can roll you can roll, I have no problems doing it some players want to do the work. You tell me what you want.

@Vidar - Kerrec will end up killing the goblin you can pick a different action or target
