If anybody drops then I get to use Heavenly Ray on them. There's a reason I took this bloodline.
In my tabletop game it's not as effective because of the two Lawful Neutral players.
'Gar' Duncrick |
I am Dming IRL Serpent's Skull and I have a Desna Celestial Sorcerer in the party. That ability is used a lot in the early goings!
Dorin Zstel |
Well, the limiting factor is "once a day". But I can't stand adventuring parties that have zero healing ability outside the cleric. After the third TPK or so, you learn to put one skill rank in Heal and carry a Healing Kit in your backpack, for crying out loud. The new Bloodblock vial in the APG is also something every player should carry on them. So at least you can drag the -9 hp cleric out of the battle and heal them.
I once had a GM who loved pulling poison traps on the party. It got so bad I actually had to roll up a paladin who took Antitoxin as a vitamin drink every morning just to survive the traps. I think he managed a +9 Fort save at 1st level.

To which the Oracle in Kast says: "What am I, chopped liver?"
Then Kast *immediately* regrets his choice in words as he is currently standing next to a dwarf who currently looks like and probably feels like (and probably also has a) chopped liver.
*sigh* Sorry, Gar.
Kast goes back to shutting up.
Dorin Zstel |
I wasn't talking about you, Kast! I think our party is very well-rounded, with Fighters, healers, two mages, etc. Who's got the lockpicking again? Just wait until 5th level when we can start crafting stuff, I foresee good things in the future...
Here's a picture of what is happening at Sandpoint. Don't backtrack on the link - it has spoilers! Just view the goblins.
'Gar' Duncrick |
Gar is the rouge of the group, although you wouldn't know it by the way he is mowing down Goblins, but he is getting a nice assist from racial hatred on his attacks and an OK dex/dodge on defense with no armor.

Dude, it's amazing you can still talk right now. I think I can see your spleen.
I'd make a heal check to ID that organ, but I'm not sure I want to know.
Dorin Zstel |
Yeah, I'm expecting the following:
- Gar drops
- Dorin casts Heavenly Fire and then Mage Armor on the dwarf
Are we doing anything about the little goblin getting away (Goblin #2)? Or the coup de grace on the sleeping goblins? (Hey, I'm Chaotic, and they're Evil.) Because I've got this opinion about goblins.
She Goblin 14 Unconscious
Gar 8
Kast 8
Male Goblins 8 (gob 3 and 4 unconscious)
Dorin 14
Danaris 7
Malcolm 7
Zees 3
Zees just went on Round 4, Initiative 3, so I guess I'm up next on Round 5.
Kast Phaer |
I'm not sure who's turn it is next, I was expecting Danaris, then Gar, then me to go.
I was planning on couping the She Goblin on my turn. My character has no problem with smiting evil, even if he isn't a paladin (yet?).
But maybe Gar will do it first...or who knows.
'Gar' Duncrick |
I couldn't coup degrace the she-gob this round as its a full round action, so I took out one of the others. Kast, you are in position to finish her off if you wished.
Kast Phaer |
I will continue to work on G1!
2 Things:
1) Malcolm, I believe you can still charge...or at least run/double move to take down/chase those goblins.
2) I didn't mind it when there is bump/reminder for the initiative or who's on deck. These are our first combats and I expect us to be a bit confuzzled, but I recognize the order is a bit screwy in my mind.
I think Dorin is up, with Gar to follow, then me.
Dorin Zstel |
New round (Thedogfightround1.xls)!
Thanks for the intros, everyone. Always a matter of principle for me at the gaming table - just who are you? Good roleplaying all around.
In the meantime the dice machine has me going last in the initiative round, but I've got Malcolm and Kast to keep me company. If I can just keep Gar from running off before I put a Mage Armor on him, even better.
'Gar' Duncrick |
Too Late..nothing is going to keep Gar from chasing Goblins..although on a meta level he could have really used it.
Never played a Dwarf before, so beating up on Goblins has been a blast..hopefully it will continue :-)

Robin: Can you email me the Map please?
Malc, I'm failing my perception check to find your email address. Would you re-post here so that the rest of us can also help make sure you get the map?
I'd rather you have the map from 5 of us than being unsure if robin has seen your message.
Dorin Zstel |
Grumble, grumble. I've been playing 7th-level and 9th-level characters at the tabletop for too long, I've forgotten how 1st-level arcane casters can't hit the broad side of a barn on a sunny day. I'm rolling 5s, 3s, 8s, etc. on the to-hit dice.
Me & Zees both need a Wand of Magic Missile, each.
Dorin Zstel |
Gar seems to be our best hitter, our most damage-dealing guy so far (11 hp in one hit?). I might have Goblin #5 on the run in Round 5. Gimme another round to find out. Once Zees and I can surround the rat-dog with magical attacks, we just need a meatshield to keep it from moving.
Some caltrops or tanglefoot bags would have been nice to have in hindsight.
Danaris Krupt |
Before I start round 6, can we get an update on the status of the goblins. Is Goblin 5 down? How about the mounted one?
Also, a strategic question: Danaris is really in no position (1 hp) to continue to engage in melee. Should I cast CLW on myself and move into flank on dog and rider, or should I just retreat to a safe distance?
Malcolm Cavendish |
I would like a status on the Mounted Goblin...that thing has got to be barely hanging on!
Danaris: Kast and I can work on flanking. I would get to safety, and be in a position to cure Kast and I, or even better, try to get to Gar, who is down!
Dorin Zstel |
Malcolm, I've got a tabletop gamer I play with who always takes a horse (or unicorn, in this specific case) and she uses Mounted Combat to nullify attacks against her mount by way of a Ride check. I metagame-suspect that is what the mounted goblin is doing in this case with the goblin dog. Change your tactics to hitting the mounted goblin and not the mount.
robin, I'm getting an "Etat de l'émission de INCONNU Session inexistante." for the map link.
And now I'm torn between dealing with Goblin #5, Goblin #1 who just dropped Gar, or Gar himself. Attack or heal?
Malcolm Cavendish |
Yes, I do that with my Cavalier as well, on a regular basis in my tabletop game, but in this instance, I specifically indicated that I was attacking the Female Mounted Goblin every time. I never attacked the mount, and I hit at least twice for significant damage.
Malcolm Cavendish |
Gar will lose one hp per round until he stabilizes from a DC 15 heal check by someone, or he gets to make a stabilization CON check (DC=10+negative number of HP) to stabilize himself on his next turn.
Zees |
The world according to Zees:
-Mounted goblin goes down after being hit by Acid Splash.
-Goblin dog misses.
-Dorin finishes off Goblin #5
-Malcolm and Kast kill the goblin dog.
-Danaris heals Gar.
-Gar stands draws a dagger on the ground and stabs the goblin #1.
-Goblin #1 misses.
-We all turn goblin #1 into mincemeat.
All in favor? Aye! We don't even need to roll. ;)
