Something is afoot in Varisia. There have been a series of odd murders in a small town on the west coast called Sand Point and more recently the capital Magnimar, where even the lord-mayor was a target. A cult of serial murderers called the Skinsaw Men was uncovered and stopped. We have also received reports of more activity along the border.

I would like you to go see the lord-mayor of Magnimar. Assure him the Pathfinder society will do what we can to help him. Investigate these goings on and see if there is a common thread to all this unrest. We have a lot of interests in Varisia and would like to maintain the good graces of the government. I doubt the lord mayor will have you sitting around for long. It is a big place and inevitably something will need attention.

So how does that sound? A mission without a precise goal and with no guarantee of coin. Ha! Are you up for it?

Searching the room and Hucker you find +1 hide shirt, +1 ogre hook, amulet of natural armor +1 and a collection of severed noses in wax-sealed tin. There is nothing else of value in here. Mostly broken items and junk.

Also one mistake the Amulet of Health +2 was a Belt of Constitution +2. Anaba can only wear the Constitution Belt or Strength Belt. Who has which ones? - You can only use if you don't already have a belt. See Treasure Sheet

I was thinking after we cleared this place out we'd split into three groups. One to tend to the rangers, one to watch for approaching threats, and one to search floor to ceiling for exciting loot and clues.

Hopefully this place doesn't have a subbasement. Or a secret crypt. I've pulled so much magic out of my head that my skull hurts.

Fernleaf will open the doors.
This damp, steamy room reeks of rotting vegetable matter. Pools of mud and stagnant water dot the mossy floor and the walls are caked with thick swaths of puffy fungus and mold. In the center of the room. there is the trunk of a large plant growing from the muck close to touching the ceiling covered with leaves, vines and mushrooms. Nothing is moving in here.

There is a door on the north wall.

That's the point. If I use a wand to open the door I'll lose an attack. The wand is best when we aren't sure about traps. Seems we lucked out that there wasn't a room full of ogrekin or worse. But this could be worse!

Buchart blasts it from range for 9 (You have to 5' step next to Anaba for line of sight.) The plant lets out an eerie squeal.

"Anaba plants don't like slashing weapons. Your bastard sword will work fine. Be careful if you charge in for AOO it has 15' reach! The good news is the crab is taking away one attack."

You see it's maw open wide as it pulls the crab into swallow it whole.
