I don't know if its worth it really. I mean I would've left me unconscious and bleeding out since I wouldn't have died for 10 more rounds and the rest of you can probably have damaged the boar enough to kill it before then. Also, since I won't regain consciousness until someone hits me with some smelling salts anyway its not much use to heal unconscious people in combat from a tactical point of view.
I am grateful for the hp though, just want to point out that unless you want to focus on channeling you can probably forgo selective channel.
Viridi Sorn |
Really? Every time I've seen someone get knocked to negative HP and healed back from it, they've been able to get up and get back into the fight without them.
Viridi Sorn |
Here's what the PRD says about smelling salts:
These sharply scented gray crystals cause people inhaling them to regain consciousness. Smelling salts grant you a new saving throw to resist any spell or effect that has already rendered you unconscious or staggered. If exposed to smelling salts while dying, you immediately become conscious and staggered, but must still make stabilization checks each round; if you perform any standard action (or any other strenuous action), you take 1 point of damage after completing the act and fall unconscious again. A container of smelling salts has dozens of uses if stoppered after each use, but depletes in a matter of hours if left open.
So, RAW, smelling salts can help you get back up from being bushwhacked by a Sleep or Colour Spray spell, or can get you back on your feet if you're at negative HP. If you're restored to positive HP, you don't need smelling salts to regain consciousness.

I've personally aways ruled that the character can wake-up as soon as he is brought back to positive hp. I'm not sure if its RAW or not but its already pretty dangerous as it is since you come back prone and not very healthy.

Well, I'm not going to complain if were playing where people get up after being above 0 hp instead of getting to make a check after an hour. I quoted the below just to make sure you guys know I wasn't just being a stick in the mud. I bolded the relevant part for emphasis.
On the character's next turn, after being reduced to negative hit points (but not dead), and on all subsequent turns, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check to become stable. The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total. A character that is stable does not need to make this check. A natural 20 on this check is an automatic success. If the character fails this check, he loses 1 hit point. An unconscious or dying character cannot use any special action that changes the initiative count on which his action occurs.
Characters taking continuous damage, such as from an acid arrow or a bleed effect, automatically fail all Constitution checks made to stabilize. Such characters lose 1 hit point per round in addition to the continuous damage.
You can keep a dying character from losing any more hit points and make him stable with a DC 15 Heal check.
If any sort of healing cures the dying character of even 1 point of damage, he becomes stable and stops losing hit points.
Healing that raises the dying character's hit points to 0 makes him conscious and disabled. Healing that raises his hit points to 1 or more makes him fully functional again, just as if he'd never been reduced to 0 or lower. A spellcaster retains the spellcasting capability she had before dropping below 0 hit points.
A stable character who has been tended by a healer or who has been magically healed eventually regains consciousness and recovers hit points naturally. If the character has no one to tend him, however, his life is still in danger, and he may yet slip away.
Recovering with Help: One hour after a tended, dying character becomes stable, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check to become conscious. The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total. Conscious characters with negative hit point totals are treated as disabled characters. If the character remains unconscious, he receives another check every hour to regain consciousness. A natural 20 on this check is an automatic success. Even if unconscious, the character recovers hit points naturally. He automatically regains consciousness when his hit points rise to 1 or higher.
...
Like I said, more than happy to get up immediately when were above 0 hp.
EDIT: just realized my group may have been misinterpreting the last line in the quote which I italicized above. We always assumed that was after the 1 hour wait period.

We're at 1063 exp, by the way, since the AP uses the fast experience track we are only 237 XP from a level up. I'll keep you updated more often from now on, no need for you to track XP, i just think it helps knowing how close we are.
GM Wilken |
I'm ready to keep the game going, just waiting to know what each character will be doing.
Ansgar Ercanbald |
Just a heads up, from August 16th to 23rd I will be in the process of getting married and honey mooning so I may not be available during that time. Feel free to bot me as needed.
Ansgar Ercanbald |
I am recruiting for an Ironfang Invasion game if anyone is interested.

Had some internet issues for the weekend, things are back to normal but now I have to catch up on work. I'll post tomorrow.
GM Wilken |
I felt moving the game foward was needed, but feel free to retroactively buy things if you want to.
Ansgar Ercanbald |
Denlar, Viridi, you have my blessing to back off if you need to. While I had though Ansgar's death would be closer to level 20 and against a horde far tougher than goblins, if he dies here it will at least be to a horde of creatures he slew some of as he fell.
I will try to keep the goblins distracted as you escape Garbund. 5-foot step you way to freedom!
GM Wilken |
This combat was way longer and more difficult than I expected, but lets look on the bright side, it gives you the XP you needed to level up!
Garbund |
I thought I forgot about something! :o

@ GM Wilken:
Do we just instantly level up in mid stride?

First of all, I'd to once again apologize for not having posted in so long.
Second of all, I'm afraid that I'm feeling rather burned out on Pathfinder for the time being. I don't think it's fair of me to keep holding you guys up while I deal with trying to get my roleplaying spark back.
I think I'm going to withdraw from this campaign.
GM Wilken |
Viridi, you can contact me if you feel like playing again, I'll bot Viridi until the end of the dungeon and then keep her in town, if this is the last we see of each other, I wish you a good holiday season :)
