Goblins Eighty-Five |
Cool!
Here is my 5 minute review of Boiko:
-Which book is Varisian Pilgrim in? I am pretty sure I own it, but just so I know what's diffrent.
-What's your race?
-25 point build, add five points
-In this game, you also add your con score to your starting HP. Gain 8 more (assuming you don't raise your Con)
Fill in these instead of a background (I skimmed it, looks good!):
»A character goal (this could be a goal you have for your character but your character doesn't know it!)
»One paragraph describing what your character looks like, how they carry themselves.
»One paragraph describing you character's personality
»We'll start the game in Magnimar, as you are heading to Sandpoint. Give me a reason why your character is heading to Sandpoint.
»Just for fun, tell me your character's favorite food and drink.
I love Desna, and the group could use a cleric. I think. Change these things, and I'll review your character again and with more detail; I do not, sadly, have the time to devote right now to go over all the nooks and crannies. It is quite late! :p
Boiko Mitrich |
Late? What are you talking about? It was 9am when I posted, and it's noon right now :D (just kidding - I'm on the other side of the globe)
The race is human, I'll add it to the profile.
I actually stumbled upon the archetype on D20PFSRD (click), but it's well-hidden! :) I believe the source is there.
I'm thinking of the following goal for the character: The harrowing for him reads that his fate is sacrifice through death. This has led Boiko to believe that there is no escaping fate; and whatever luck or happiness one may currently enjoy will always be balanced by a tragedy later. The goal would be to overcome this fatalism and realize that one can master his own fate. This would also allow him to settle down and create a family (but outside the scope of this adventure :) )
Boiko's appearance roughly matches his avatar: he's a middle-aged guy with a mustache and heavy eyebrows. He is tanned and weathered from living an outdoorsman life. He is hardy and used to hard work and long treks on foot.
Boiko is well-versed in folklore, and believes in simple morals and common sense. He is usually unphased by hardships, and he is accustomed to overcoming problems which initially seem insurmountable, usually by stroke of luck. He feels uncomfortable in cities, and doesn't think highly of civilization. He is fairly superstitious and distrusts arcane magic. He strongly opposes evil and oppression, and loves simple joys of life and freedom.
Boiko started to feel his age creeping upon him. Thoughts of settling down occur in his mind more and more often, and when he learned that Sandpoint is about to re-open its once-famous cathedral, it seemed like a perfect occasion for him to stay there for a while and have a taste of the town life. He just happened to learn the news while he was briefly passing through Magnimar. The metropolis is too much for him and he wants to get out on open road as soon as possible.
His favorite drink is plum brandy, and favorite food is lamb soup. I'm not Serbian, but I can't help imagining Emir Kusturica's films when I read about Varisia.
Demaiv Neikar |
We could definitely use a cleric, and maybe a dedicated arcane caster. I'm planning on building Demaiv into a front-line sorcerer, dragon-disciple style. That being said, I won't be reading individual character sheets, since that takes some of the fun out of the game for me (learning someone's backstory through RP instead of reading their sheet).
Goblins Eighty-Five |
Can I ask if the recruitment is still going on? What is the current make-up of the group that remains?
I opened this back up because recruitment has opened back up. Current group makeup is an expert, warrior, and a spellcaster who, it sounds like, won't be heavily focused on spellcasting. We might still have a divine bard, but they haven't posted in sometime.
I'm also going to have to mention that while you can play a character of any reasonable age, I won't be using/enforcing the modifiers based on age. Also, no templates. The fact that I even have to mention the second one still boggles my mind.
------
Boiko's character goal acts opposite to Desna's teachings, fyi. Posting on phone, will have things say once home.
Boiko Mitrich |
Fine, tweaked the stats again to get rid of the age modifiers.
As for the goal - I checked PF Wiki but didn't find mentions of Desna supporting fatalism and determinism. Settling down is more of a long-term goal and is entirely optional. My intent was to give the character a more human side and a natural weakness, I didn't envision him as a paragon of Desna. I can remove it though if you insist.
Goblins Eighty-Five |
@Boiko: Oh no! I didn't mean it like that! You can have, outside, or even inside, the scoop of this game, a goal to settle down. I meant, she sees destiny as forever changing and always good! Desna's followers believe that no matter what one's fate, there is always a good side to it; they don't believe in the permanency of one's future, as foretelling is always one possibility out of a pool of many, and that, even when they see no alternative but a bad ending in the future, they hesitate to give bad omens, instead, they try to focus on whatever possible good may come out of it. You could put a backwards spin on what you have written here: Instead of seeing the good having to be balanced by the bad, they could instead see the bad being balanced out by the good.
Source: Faiths of purity.
Now, you're right, you don't have to be a paragon of Desna. The swallowtail goddess is one of change and non-permanence, so it is possible that she could have a follower who focuses on the tragedy in one's life that they believe is inevitable. Truly, being a pilgrim of Desna would make more sense for such a character; harbingers of doom in the times of great joy would be generally shooed out of most towns. And most Desna followers would view such a character as a blasphemer. But such a character would be quite a challenge to play, and I think, quite fun!
@To everyone else: It's great to see so many submissions! Sadly, I am BOGGED down in work suddenly, so I won't have time to review them till Thursday night. I'm getting the evil eye from my wife even as I type this, so I must dash again!
Boiko Mitrich |
@Goblins85:
OK, I haven't read FoP but I still think it can be worked out. Consider this:
a) Boiko has been a cleric for a long time but still hasn't risen above 1st level. This would already mean he's not too good at it :)
b) He has got this reading multiple times and as any mortal, he fears death, he's not exalted enough to welcome it.
c) He tries to escape/delay his doom by being a nice and humble pilgrim, but the readings don't change. This is because he's doing it wrong :)
d) Once the adventure finds him, he will fear that the prophecy is coming true and start to fight it. This is where the true meaning unfolds: you have to actively work against your destiny to change it, because it's influenced by your actions. The more dangers he overcomes, the more his future divinations are changing. Also he levels up and gets more powers/spells from Desna, because this time he's doing it right :)
Sorry if this is against canon; I mostly make this up as I go. I'm open to suggestions if you think other deities are more suitable for this type of character.

If there's room for a front-liner, I'm kinda interested in a front-liner that uses Thunder and Fang feat uses the Earthbreaker and Klar as a double weapon at the end of a 4 feat chain. but that's if you'd allow the mechanic.
Otherwise a dex based Combat Reflex Bladed Scarf user. Int the Rotl book it's got the scarf saying it's git reach, so i'd like to give that a whirl if you'll take that.
Otherwise I can roll up a casty wizard or something. it's jsut late here, and i have a party to set up for tomorrow.
editOh wait, or a Bladebound Kensai (magus)!!!
Goblins Eighty-Five |
Here is who I'm interested in joining, if you are still of the mind to:
Boiko Mitrich.
Zekari Quiatris
Leya Brackleberry
Aeshuura
Please post in the discussion area. You aren't there yet! I'll need to go over the finer details of your characters, and you'll need to add/remove stuff from them as well.
Everyone else, thank you for your application! Maybe another time, another game.
Goblins Eighty-Five |
I...I think I ended up having to use maps for fights with multiple opponents. I'd like to think that I don't, and I try not to f*@# the players over, unlike some people, so you wouldn't have to worry about the fireball killing half your party because 'I assumed you wanted to'.
Goblins Eighty-Five |
*Sees above post and starts crying*
I think I love you!
-----
Seriously though, I loved the Book of Nine Swords book, and if I get a 4ed player, I hand them that book, and they are quite pleased. I am addicted to the classes and martial powers in that book.
If you can figure out a flavor for them that fits into Golarion, that would make me EXTRA happy!

Having just found this thread, I'd be interested in coming up with a character concept that you'd enjoy. I don't get off work for another four hours and I'm already coming up with a couple character concepts, so as long as you don't mind, I'd love to come up with a character for this. I've yet to play Rise of the Runelords and I'm eagerly awaiting the Anniversary Reprint of it coming this year (hopefully).
Severed Ronin |
I have a Changeling Rogue from a dead PBP that I was wondering if I'd be allowed to play. The Changeling wasn't the one listed in the Carrion Crown PBP. If it's alright, could I have you review it and consider allowing me to update it for your campaign? I only ask because I noticed you mention that you didn't mind house-ruling a few things, so I thought I'd ask in order for me to make some use out of a now stagnant alias.
Skeith |
Sorry for back-to-back posting (I hate it when I do it) but I just took a look at Eberron's Changeling and that looks pretty much like what my previous GM from Second Darkness campaign I was playing in. Anyways, that's what I'll be making, so just give me a day or two to modify him to your ruleset and he should be good to go. Thanks again.
This is his un-updated profile from before if you want to take a look at it. I plan to recreate him using yours, but if you want an idea on what I focused on.
Severed Ronin |
Seeing as how no one else has posted, I suppose I'll have to deal with triple posting. I know everyone's busy and will get to me when they get a chance.
[spoiler=Goblin]
I was wondering if I'd be allowed to use the Third-Party Rogue Build listed here under Detect's Thread. I've had the PDF saved for some time and have been wanting to toy around with this Guile Points system for awhile. If not, that's alright.
Also, will we be allowed use of the Called Shots system as presented in Ultimate Combat?
Severed Ronin |
Neither have I in regards to the rogue. I play them almost exclusively, but I thought I'd ask nonetheless. I appreciate you even considering it however. I failed to note the other individual playing the rogue, so I won't bother with archetyping it up just yet.
I'll finish off the last of the fluff and crunch adjustments and get it posted up here today.
Skerrin Maltisse |
I would like to present Skerrin, a LN Elven Wizard(Conjuror) for consideration :-)
A character goal:
To learn more about the Thassilonian Empire, through the analysis of the ruins scattered throughout Varisia, and a retrospective study of the culture of the indigenous human population.
One paragraph describing what your character looks like, how they carry themselves.
Skerrin is an elderly Elf, with a mane of fine silvery hair, and a tanned, weather-lined face. He generally dresses in a sturdy explorer’s outfit, dyed green with designs picked-out in silver thread. He typically has a journal and quill in hand, ready to make note of anything interesting which catches his eye.
One paragraph describing you character's personality.
Although he can be quite distracted at times, going off onto tangents about esoteric subjects, he is quick to smile, and is filled with boundless energy – although his strength is failing, he is still as spry as ever! Skerrin does not tend to bear grduges; he does not see the point, when he will continue to live for centuries, of allowing disagreements to fester. He can, however, be a staunch ally.
We'll start the game in Magnimar, as you are heading to Sandpoint. Give me a reason why your character is heading to Sandpoint.
Taking a look at a map of the Gulf of Varisia, Skerrin decided that the best way to approach the hinterland of Varisia would be to catch the regular 'ferry' from Magnimar to Sandpoint.
Just for fun, tell me your character's favorite food and drink.
Pheasant with a lemon and pepper sauce, accompanied by elderberry wine.
Skerrin found that the majority of the humans were aloof, but he kept his head-down, and despite the fact that he had no particular skill at Conjuration, eventually took the Test of Summoning.
Having ensured that his token ‘olive branch’ of intercollegiate goodwill had succeeded, Skerrin’s master turned his attention away from the Acadamae, and focused on his ‘cultural’ portfolio with great zeal – in fact, he became quite notorious for his interest in the young women of Korvosa, much to the chagrin of more than one noble house or merchant family.
However, such scandalous activities were simply a cover for his actual purpose in the city – using a combination of magic and money, he maintained a web of informants that specialised in knowing anything and everything about the city.
Invariably, Skerrin was in the thick of whatever long game his master was running. Things continued in this fashion for close to a century, before someone managed to unravel the carefully constructed web, and attempted to finger the puppet-master – Skerrin took the fall for his master, and was ultimately expelled from the city for spying.
He returned back to Kyonin, and lived a life of quite mediocrity, pouring over ancient books, and developing a reputation as a respectable sage. However, in his later years, he was seized by wanderlust – he remembered the fierce excitements and the rush of adrenaline associated with adventure and discovery, and decided that he would like to experience it again before he retired.
Over the years, he had come across various scraps of information regarding the ancient Thassilonian Empire, and decided that visiting the modern nation of Varisia, to explore the ruins still in situ, as well as the gypsy culture which was inspired by the rune magic of ancient Thassilon, would be a worthy capstone to his long life... After all, what is the worst that could happen...?
Goblins Eighty-Five |
Correct! This rule comes from the The Book of Experimental Might in which it introduces the concept of the double-feat, in which a feat can only be taken when the character has two feats to burn at the same time. It also allows a character to be more custom-made.
Goblins Eighty-Five |
I'm sorry it took till tonight to respond;
Skeith, you're in! However...
I hope you do not find this to be in offense, but I haven't even reviewed your character, & you're getting in on being the only person to actually submit a character! Well, that, and you posted enough to show that you are enthusiastic about playing, so I was likely to pick you anyways. You'll have to be a bit more patient with me, as my school schedule just got wonky, and I don't take to Pathfinder as easily as I do WOD, but you can go ahead and post in discussion, and I'll review your character by the end of Wednesday at the latest.
Jacetm87, if you still have an interest, I won't actually close recruitment until we get a 6th character, so, if you're still keen...
Goblins Eighty-Five |
Holy Balls! I am SO sorry! :( I don't know how on earth I missed that, it's huge! Well, for having egg on my face, you get in! *Is actually blushing*
---------------
*Thinks*
Actually, Paizo has been acting WEIRD lately; my shopping cart keeps filling up with items I've already purchased, things don't load correctly, posts are disappearing...
None the less, Skerrin, you're in! And I'm an ass! I feel really bad.
Alright, recruitment is closed!
Skeith, Skerrin, I'll review your characters later. *Feels really bad*
