@Zousha. Your race is fine, halfelf or human. Maybe you could explain why he all of a sudden went into a rage like that and threaten the king. Did he have emotional problems or was there something that would cause him to snap instead of accepting his fate. It just feels out of place that all is good then doesnt get what he wants and BAM! Also im not sure the king would be the one deciding who joined the nights. Perhaps you want to assault the head of the knights in his city or region instead. Still important enough of a crime for you to go to branderscar.

@Fletch. Just one little bitty problem is that you all arive at branderscar more or less together and when game starts it is the pc's first or second day. So no weeks of languishing because these crimes are dealt with and justice dispensed quickly. You do know that you will die or whatever your crime says, in just 3 days.

I'm thinking of explaining the rage as latent draconic blood, building up to when he takes his first sorcerer level. And the rage would be WHY he was rejected for paladinhood in the first place, as well as motivation to worship Asmodeus. Asmodeus is as much a god of discipline as anything else, and he's seen that when he loses control of his emotions, he gets into trouble, so he worships Asmodeus to gain the control over himself that he needs, to sharpen that anger from mindless impulse to finely honed and planned action.

I think you're right that assaulting the king wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. But he still wants to join the Knights of the Alerion. Assaulting the head of the Knights would work, and they're a big part of the military. Plus with a less-defined figure there's more room for the rejection to be more humiliating.

"You're claiming to be of royal blood? Seriously? You think making a stupidly outrageous claim like THAT would get you into the Knights of the Alerion? You're crazier than I thought! HA!"

Would assaulting the "knight-commander" or whatever still count as High Treason as a result? Sorry if this is getting annoying. I've never played an evil character before, and making one that's not "MWAHAHAHAHA I TREAT WOMEN LIKE CONQUESTS, EAT KITTENS AND LOVE TO MAKE LITTLE CHILDREN CRY!", a villain that's actually likable, rather than just someone you like to hate, is really hard for me.

Yep that can still count for treason. Blame the dragons nice one. That is definately plausible.

Edit: was being serious.

Same here. That's why my background is rather open.. Was just rather sold on the idea of a character that could probably eat everything if they so choose.

BTW Avyanna doesn't have a faction. I could pick one for her if need be, and don't know if I can choose 'no faction', but just letting everyone know because it has her down as the defualt.

Well that was quite a read. But I'm wondering who she tried to murder? Or does it not matter? I would imagine it would have to be someone important.

You don't need to have a faction. They have no part in this AP. Factions are for official PFS scenarios. So don't worry about it.

I've got Artaius' sheet mostly completed. Just have to pick what weapon I plan on having him use, which will determine whether I take Exotic Weapon Proficiency or Improved Initiative to start things off, write the finished backstory for it and pick my second (non-campaign) trait.

Artaius the Bastard. Note that his class is now Tactician Fighter.

@DM: Oops, not sure if I somehow mixed up Brandescar with the asylum. Two different places and the asylum got burnt to the ground by yours truly after I attempted to confront the warden about what he did to me.
I get thrown into Brandescar for Arson and they fit me with whatever custom manacles you deem appropriate.

A magical ball and chain that sizes to fit my form seems appropriate. Makes it nearly pointless to remain in bat form, while not terribly slowing me down in human form. Not sure if stated already, maybe -5 or -10 ft land speed for ball and chain?

If the rest of the background meets with approval I'll write it up today.

Roll20 is free, though there's a paid version that removes something like a 20-second "loading wait" for the GM and all the players if the GM pays for it(Only the GM needs to, which is kinda nice). It also gives access to things like dynamic lighting and shadows for maps.

I'll echo that too. But remember we are trying to create true villains here. Interesting yes, but they don't have to be likeable in any way. These aren't misunderstood heroes or even brooding anti-heroes. It's a rare chance to create and play an unapologetically evil character

I am making a character with blue/orange mentality, a character who in his own eyes has done nothing wrong (so what if I stole the pope's bones, it's not like he was still using them) and in return for being punished unjustly, is going to punish those responsible, (no not revenge, justice,)
and rule in their stead as they clearly have become unfit to rule if innocence is to be sentenced to the highest of crimes,

Maybe i can help a bit there.

Evil characters often follow sinister goals and motivations.
Where a good character would do something to help others, evil ones don´t.
They save their own ass and if possible take some advantage. Personaly or for their group. Even chaotic evil characters are not/ don´t need to be raving madmen. They are clever, have goals and aims, beliefs, morals, norms etc. Only it´s most often more for their own good and not the general good. They steal, kill, punish and do other things good characters would not do. On purpose. They can even be revengeful, cruel, belief in the law of the stronger, or whatever.

Is there still room & time to apply?

Oh, I'm WELL aware of that. But I'd rather play a villain who's got some personality BESIDES the evil, you know? I've seen too many BioWare games where taking the evil path is less about malice, myopic thinking or a lack of concern for consequences (Loghain Mac Tir in Dragon Age is probably the ONLY guy where I've seen this done well), and more about just insulting everyone you meet. That's not evil! That's just being an a##~$#@! :P

yeah, if I'm playing ultimate evil I want to be more darkseid and less nega-chin

to me lawful evil, particularly the Asmodean kind is all about rigid interpretation of a code or set of laws that are written in such a way that they are not fair and clearly benefit some more than others. No mercy will be shown to those who clearly should be shown it. Those villagers who were raided by Orcs, their taxes don't get cut because they couldn't defend themselves, in fact article 7.3.4 of the tax code says that villages that require higher assistance in responding to raids have their taxes increased by 10% to help offset costs to the crown for assisting them, ect.

Feats:
Dodge: Your training and reflexes allow you to react swiftly to avoid an opponents' attacks.
Prerequisite: Dex 13.
Benefit: You gain a +1 dodge bonus to your AC. A condition that makes you lose your Dex bonus to AC also makes you lose the benefits of this feat.
Class Features:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Oracles are proficient with all simple weapons, light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields). Some oracle revelations grant additional proficiencies.
Spells: An oracle casts divine spells drawn from the cleric spell lists. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, an oracle must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an oracle's spell is 10 + the spell's level + the oracle's Charisma modifier.
Like other spellcasters, an oracle can cast only a certain number of spells per day of each spell level. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table 2–5. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Charisma score (see Table 1–3 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook).
Unlike other divine spellcasters, an oracle's selection of spells is extremely limited. An oracle begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of her choice. At each new oracle level, she gains one or more new spells, as indicated on Table 2–6. Unlike spells per day, the number of spells an oracle knows is not affected by her Charisma score; the numbers on Table 2–6 are fixed.
In addition to the spells gained by oracles as they gain levels, each oracle also adds all of either the cure spells or the inflict spells to her list of spells known (cure spells include all spells with “cure” in the name, inflict spells include all spells with “inflict” in the name). These spells are added as soon as the oracle is capable of casting them. This choice is made when the oracle gains her first level and cannot be changed.
Upon reaching 4th level, and at every even-numbered oracle level after that (6th, 8th, and so on), an oracle can choose to learn a new spell in place of one she already knows. In effect, the oracle loses the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell's level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. An oracle may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that she gains new spells known for the level. She cannot swap any cure or inflict spells, nor can she swap any spells gained from her mystery.
Unlike a cleric, an oracle need not prepare her spells in advance. She can cast any spell she knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level. Oracles do not need to provide a divine focus to cast spells that list divine focus (DF) as part of the components.
Mystery: Each oracle draws upon a divine mystery to grant her spells and powers. This mystery also grants additional class skills and other special abilities. This mystery can represent a devotion to one ideal, prayers to deities that support the concept, or a natural calling to champion a cause. For example, an oracle with the waves mystery might have been born at sea and found a natural calling to worship the gods of the oceans, rivers, and lakes, be they benign or malevolent. Regardless of its source, the mystery manifests in a number of ways as the oracle gains levels. An oracle must pick one mystery upon taking her first level of oracle. Once made, this choice cannot be changed.
At 2nd level, and every two levels thereafter, an oracle learns an additional spell derived from her mystery. These spells are in addition to the number of spells given on Table 2–6. They cannot be exchanged for different spells at higher levels.
Flame
Class Skills: An oracle with the flame mystery adds Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate, and Perform to her list of class skills.
Bonus Spells: burning hands (2nd), resist energy (4th), fireball (6th), wall of fire (8th), summon monster V (fire elementals only, 10th), fire seeds (12th), fire storm (14th), incendiary cloud (16th), fiery body* (18th).
Revelations: An oracle with a flame mystery can choose from any of the following revelations.
Heat Aura (Su): As a swift action, you can cause waves of heat to radiate from your body. This heat deals 1d4 points of fire damage per two oracle levels (minimum 1d4) to all creatures within 10 feet. A Reflex save halves the damage. In addition, your form wavers and blurs, granting you 20% concealment until your next turn. You can use this ability once per day, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and every five levels thereafter.
Final Revelation: Upon reaching 20th level, you become a master of fire. You can apply any one of the following feats to any fire spell you cast without increasing the level or casting time: Enlarge Spell, Extend Spell, Silent Spell, or Still Spell. You do not need to possess these feats to use this ability.
Oracle's Curse (Ex): Each oracle is cursed, but this curse comes with a benefit as well as a hindrance. This choice is made at 1st level, and once made, it cannot be changed. The oracle's curse cannot be removed or dispelled without the aid of a deity. An oracle's curse is based on her oracle level plus one for every two levels or Hit Dice other than oracle. Each oracle must choose one of the following curses.
Wasting: Your body is slowly rotting away. You take a –4 penalty on Charisma-based skill checks, except for Intimidate. You gain a +4 competence bonus on saves made against disease. At 5th level, you are immune to the sickened condition (but not nauseated). At 10th level, you gain immunity to disease. At 15th level, you are immune to the nauseated condition.
Orisons: Oracles learn a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, as noted on Table 2–6 under “Spells Known.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.
Revelation: At 1st level, 3rd level, and every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and so on), an oracle uncovers a new secret about her mystery that grants her powers and abilities. The oracle must select a revelation from the list of revelations available to her mystery. If a revelation is chosen at a later level, the oracle gains all of the abilities and bonuses granted by that revelation based on her current level. Unless otherwise noted, activating the power of a revelation is a standard action.
Final Revelation: At 20th level, an oracle learns the final revelation about her mystery, granting her amazing powers and abilities. The nature of these bonuses depends upon the oracle's mystery.

Quick question to the GM. How do I put Artaius' stats here on the forums rather than linking to a Plothook sheet? I've never RPed here on Paizo's boards before, so I'm unsure how that works.

Just make a new alias for him and add everything to its profile. Go right up the top and select My Account. You should be able to create new aliases from there.

I think it was tuesday or wednesday that was the end of the two weeks. So that is the maximum time. I would like for everyone to be ready by friday/saturday though as that is when I will have the most free time to look at everything.. If you gotta study, you gotta study and I will not penalise you for RL commitments when I did say two weeks. :) In my list I have you as ready and waiting though? If you want to add more to the backstory though that is of course fine. Just let me know whether you consider his story complete. I do not care about statsheets being complete or correct right now. That will be done after selection.

You don't need to have a faction. They have no part in this AP. Factions are for official PFS scenarios. So don't worry about it.

While I'm not really sure how to work it, the idea is that this guy wanted to put some sort of law into place regarding illusion magic and its use, especially in the capitals.

He is a bit paranoid about cultists and untrusting of magic, believing that magic granted by the divine to be pure magic and all other kinds to be sourced from Asmodeus, demonic blood, tainted lineage etc.

She found out about his plans to restrict/outlaw/otherwise alter magical law, particularly ones about illusion, charm and other mind-altering, deception magic, so she sought him out, and spent a decent amount of time (we're talking over 5yrs) distracting him and keeping him off focus until she gained enough of his trust and affection to be in a situation where she could do away with this threat for good.

She doesn't know it, but he actually had artifacts in his room designed to weaken illusions. She believes that there was something else at play (after all, she has never had problems before) but she doesn't know what it is, or the extent of it. Her body illusion pretty much had a countdown the minute she entered his chambers, the fact that she began casting other illusion, mind-altering spells only made it wear out faster.

ahh, someone who wanted magic to be limited or controlled? That is interesting. She definately walked into something she was not ready for, and found out how weak her magic is right now. level 1 after all.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

    True.

Being as arrogant as she is, she never really thought about learning more powerful magic.

She as natural charm and charisma, and only uses her bardic magic to cover up her fiendish features, or to weaken the resolve of the more conservative.

Even though she is on the better half of a century old, she never learnt more spells than the ones the bard taught her, instead focusing on dances, songs, and other social knowledge that would help her climb the ladder toward the king.

It is this event that made her come to terms with that the world won't accept her, no matter how charming, no matter how many stories or dances or gossip she knows. To them she is a monster, and no amount of illusion will change the truth.

Since trying charm and seduction failed, she now aims to learn more powerful forms of magic. Magic that will have others killing for her, not just liking her. Magic that will hurt, destroy, trap etc

In essence, she has gained wisdom into how the world works (kind of making up that -2 Wis racial ;P) and resolved that if she can't rule as a human through words and whiles, she'll rule as a devil, a monster, through power, force and a more devilish kind of corruption.

That will be done after selection.

backstory is done and well developed, I just need to adjust the crunch, this was origionally a gestalt character, so I gotta take off the other class's stuff,

Actually most people list threads like this and check if there are some news. Everyone is curious, just not everyone posts that much if not necessary.

^ This. Everyone checks. Most people don't post about how they're checking.

It was more of a play off the GM's Post of "Comfortably Waiting" and less of a senseless checking in. Guess the humor didn't spread as successfully as I had intended.

@Wade Willhelm. You're fine then. Don't worry about that unless I select you.

Yup I know what you guys mean. I do the same. It sucks that there are ~18 of you and max 6 can play... If I had more time I would run two groups, but after alot of thought I realise I would not have the time to run two games well enough so I will focus on running 1 game well.

Run with whatever works for you, even if it is 4 characters. I've seen groups go under because the DM just can't handle the load.

This is me senselessly checking in :>

For those who have GMd and played in lots of these before, do you find that this pre game chat influences character selection any?

... I'd rather play a villain who's got some personality BESIDES the evil, you know? I've seen too many BioWare games where taking the evil path is less about malice, myopic thinking or a lack of concern for consequences (Loghain Mac Tir in Dragon Age is probably the ONLY guy where I've seen this done well), and more about just insulting everyone you meet. That's not evil! That's just being an a!&!@*@! :P

Ha! We're very much on the same page then. As I'm finding out from trying to write these characters though, when I start delving into their background to give them an interesting personality I start feeling sympathy for them. And what self respecting villain wants sympathy!?! ick :>

See what I have made! Imagine what is yet to come! I take away their confusion and give them obedience. I take away their fear of themselves and give them fear of Darkseid. I have liberated them from the chaos and indecision! I have given one straight path! One clear purpose! One goal: To die for Darkseid!

That's an awesome quote! Now imagine a party of 5 or 6 Darkseids - This game is going to be crazy!

I'm planning on a character who is 3 parts darkseid, 2 parts evil superman 1 part deadpool

Actually DM Repentance, Artaius is now a Fighter (Tactician archetype). The concept of being a magic warrior is still there, but instead of being a magus he'll be taking levels of sorcerer and becoming an evil Eldritch Knight later.

Do I need to put the full info from the sheet I filled out on my profile, or would just linking to the Plothook sheet be okay?

I'll have the complete backstory soon.

also as a note, the in this campaign wade will be a bones oracle not a death mage or a metal oracle

So that's where the name comes from then. Wade Wilson -> Wade Willhelm. And by evil Superman, are we talking Superboy Prime, Hank Henshaw(Cyborg Superman), or "alternate-reality-Lois-Lane-Killed-by-Lex-Luthor" crazy dictator Superman?

lol everyone. I have the day off work today and am checking in every now and then. Already starting to go over everyone again and see what might fit together well.

Why would everyone want to be darkseid? No variety.

Artaius, once again. Don't worry about the statsheet right now. You can add it to your profile like other people have or link a mythweavers or what have you.

@Wade. I kept meaning to mention and ask which you were actually wanting to play but kept forgetting.
