I don't think it should be too bad. I've never played it before, but most of the 'gory details' type stuff should be left up to the GM and players. And the GM has said he wants this to be more of a Gory Discretion Shot(trope) game.

DM Repentance wrote:
And I will say now, anything your character does that is terribly evil... my policy is fade to black. If you want to describe how the blood spurts and how many pieces their finger bones broke into. This isn't your game. :) This may be obvious stuff but i'm just making sure.

The evilness is apparently at a pg-13 rating. Characters can probably make it M15, but I won't allow any graphicaly descriptive heavy violence or whatnot to be posted.

Alright. I'll give it a shot.

Race: Half-Elf
Class: Magus

Focus: Intelligence
Foible: Charisma

Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

I'm really uncertain. I've never played Way of the Wicked before, and for that matter have never played an evil character before. How friendly to the "squeamish" is this AP? Also with such other strong contenders as these a newbie to RPing here like me has very little competitiveness.

What Unruly said. It will mostly be up to the players and the GM how graphic things are. I try to keep my PBP PG-13 since I don't know people's ages and social backgrounds. In my RL group sometimes there is super heavy RP, but normally just more hack-and-slash than anything. Which is why I like PBPing so I can get more of the RP time in. But don't worry about being new, I am sure that the GM is mostly looking for interesting concepts of characters that will work together. If you make it in, you can quickly find and polish your own RP style.

Good luck everyone! Happy Holiday Season! Also, love the campaign info update. Almost finished reading it. So far, i was just beginning to think of how great this sounds for the intro to a Lawful Good campaign, when I remembered that we are all going to be evil, lol.

Name: Artaius (Barca, maybe?)
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Magus (Bladebound, Hexcrafter)

STR: 17
DEX: 15
CON: 13
INT: 18
WIS: 10
CHA: 8

Crime: Trying to decide on this one. I'm still enamored with the idea of a guy torn between burning lust for revenge and tearful regret who feels it's too late for redemption. High Treason feels too "big" for the character. Dueling to Death could emphasize hotheadedness (especially if I go with him being a Barca), though I already get a decent Fortitude as a magus. Desertion could let him become an army commander or something. Maybe he didn't abandon his post from cowardice, but from anger, abandoning a superior he hated or something. This is always the hard part for me. Indecision.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, to keep with your idea of being a Vader-esque character, all three of those would work. Vader committed desertion by joining the Sith, treason by helping remove power from the senate and murdering the jedi, and was in the duel to the death with both Count Dooku and Obi-Wan(twice, though one was well after his fall). All of which was done out of a misguided sense of love and to protect his girlfriend.

The problem with Vader comes when you realize that he's evil because it's all he's got left. Otherwise, he hates himself for everything he's done. You'd have to find a way to make your Vader come to terms with everything by embracing his evil side. Maybe rather than wallow in your self-loathing, you simply continue on the path of "protection." You want to set up the new world order and rule with an iron fist so that no one ever has to go through the pain that you did. You're evil, but for all the "right" reasons.

Just trying to give you some ideas based on what you've said previously. Not trying to tell you how to make your character.

EDIT: Also, your stat array should be this -
Str: 13(15, assuming that's where you put your racial)
Dex: 15
Con: 15
Int: 18
Wis: 10
Cha: 8

The Focus/Foible system has your rolls fall into order. You can't rearrange them.

Updated. Forgot that i only posted background in the other thread.
The background is kept short and mainly describes Kana´s crime on purpose.
After all it´s just a level 1 adventurer without much experience and the teen tragedies of her youth aren´t particularly interesting.
Perhaps, if you get to know her better, she will tell you some of those, but only perhaps.

Character has been updated with full backstory, stats, etc.

How much are you looking to have for the submission to be considered "Complete"? For recruitment, I prefer to offer the stats, the character, and the concept, and little else, since any alias has a 10-post limit before it becomes permanent, and I would like to prevent having tons of different names in my Alias page that do not see use.

Drahzar pondered how he had ended up here, in this cell awaiting death. It must have been 15 years now since his parents died, that day that set his life on this course. Orphaned at 5, he didn't fit the "proper" poor that gratefully received handouts from the church, somehow they were clean, and well fed. The priests didn't like it when he grabbed the food from them, but how was he too know that someone else wasn't going to do the same? It really was their fault and their rules that had led to this situation. And they had a good system, the rules said that they were in charge and could largely do what they wanted, so they did. Ah, what it would have been like to be in a similar situation, where the rules said you had power and could use it.

At least in this cell he could sleep with both eyes closed. Those camps out in the country he never could. What was to stop someone from slitting your throat and taking what you had, it wasn't like their were watchmen to protect you, or walls you could hide behind. No, a system of laws, where you are among the privileged is the way to go. If only he had been born on the right side of the rules of the land.

No, even here closing both eyes was hard. For then...he saw such things, such terrible things. His tiny child's hands covered in blood, holding a bloody rock, the other child on the ground, still. or his later kills with either a bow, or more frequently a blade or hammer. But that had never been his choice, however good at it he was. sometimes the hunger got too much though or he was too cold and the money paid for that kind of work was good.

Alas not even here, in chains and surrounded by stone could he truly rest.

You don't need an alias. But a backstory would be nice to read to understand the character a bit more. That's the most important part, stats are secondary, so don't make a whole character sheet if you don't particularly feel like it.

Well, here's Avyanna Maeve . My Tiefling (Rakshasa-Spawn) female bard convicted for attempted murder.

Background pending, but description is done.

Just a few thoughts about your backstories. Everyone in this post is ready as far as I am concerned, but the more I can know about your character the better(personality and such/ more background details). I'll check your stats for mistakes if I pick you. Some good characters. Wish I could do two groups but I know it will be too much for me at the moment. Likely going to be a group of 5 or 6 though the AP calls for 4.

Riley Pinkerton:
Where did your ratfolk clan live? Hills/mountain/plains/city sewers? Wondering what sort of ratfolk they might have been.

Cole:
So did Cole steal the weapons and armour for the goblin band all by himself? And he is not at all suspected of killing his parents? Overall a pretty nice(and fittingly dark) idea of how he became evil

Raymond Hessel:
Is his mother still alive? Does he care for her at all? Story is interesting.

Troin Ironbeard:
Does he have any family still alive? Is his brother dead? Good explanation for the dumped charisma, ouchies.

Eric Erebus:
Was he teased and bullies because of his parents? Did the orphanage know about that? Or anyone else for that matter? It's not his fault, they bullied him and deserved it! :)

Hound:
Does anyone remember his real name? Maybe one of the others that got taken with him? They would be still alive I guess. Is he still quite young?

Lorin Svorn:
As the last? survivor of the academea, would he try to start it up again in the future if he could? Maybe something different?

Kana Cherryblossom:
Which is your campaign trait? How exactly was she discovered just because diplomats arrived? If you could expand upon her capture that would be great.

Seren Little:
Nice and creepy story. Well explained and I like the detail. What are her parents doing now? Does she care about them at all? I imagine not but I wonder if she wants them dead or something like that.

Drahzar:
I'm not sure how he ended up in jail? Who did he murder and how did he get caught? What sort of environment did he grow up in? It seems around priests but also out in the wild?

For our evil overlord:
Some of the younger children would. Hound is 18

gm:
Lorin Svorn doesn't know of any survivors from the Academae but they could exist and as for restarting it at this point Lorin is of the opinion that first he must crush the Mithran filth underneath his boot heel before he can even consider such a thing. On a side Lorin will also be taking leadership at level seven, a great conqueror must have a great horde after all. As for the cohort that is unknown but if any of the Svorn family besides himself still lives he or she might be press ganged into that position.

I'm thinking I may tweak the stats (shift focus and foible and shuffle them around, not completely scrap them) and class a bit. I realize to be a leader of men I'd need more Charisma, so I may switch to a fighter/sorcerer multiclass and then work towards Eldritch Knight or perhaps go for Battle Herald via a bard/cavalier multiclass. Dragon or Cockatrice would work well. This is always the hard part, deciding just WHAT to play. The rest comes easy after that.

Upon reflection, I've decided Artaius will be of the House of Barca. Artaius Barca. That was Hannibal's family name, you know!

Plus, I've been listening to some Blind Guardian to get in the right mindset. Some ideas for Artaius' personality that I'll crystalize tomorrow: Terrible wrath when he feels he's been wronged, and a stubborn refusal to see when he's the one who's wronged others; a willingness to stoop to vile levels to "do what must be done" and get "justice," which is really just revenge. He doesn't have to like or trust his allies. Who would? But they can trust him, and with their aid, he'll repay the whole of Talingarde for betraying him (just have to figure out HOW they betrayed him, or at least how he imagines it). Basically working on combining the best and worst traits of Darth Vader and Feanor.

DM Repentance:

Torin believes that his brother is dead. Whether or not that is actually the case, I would leave up to you. As for other family, I imagine that his parents some extended family are alive, but he is effectively estranged from them, as they have not spoken since his isolation in the mountains.

Oh sorry Lord Foul. I thought Wade and you were different people. I will edit the list. There actually is one other oracle of bones. Seren Little.

@GM - I figure his mother is still alive, but he's not sure. All his siblings would have had to do was kick her out of the house and she'd burn to death. Since they're not fond of humans, he figures that she's dead.

Drahzar wrote:

Browman here.

Drahzar is a ranger who specializes in hunting humans, particularly those who he is paid to remove. He was orphaned at a young age and grew up on the rougher side of being destitute. He killed for the first time at the age of 12, defending some food he had stolen. A few years later he left the city and fell in with some bandits, recently he returned to the city to make some money doing what he does best, eliminating people. He was arrested standing over the bloody body of a shopkeeper, holding a rather bloody hammer.

GM I think most of your questions were answered in my first background earlier in the thread. I have quoted it above in case you missed it the first time I posted it.

DM Repentance:

After being cast out by them, they wanted nothing to do with Seren, as her corruption had hurt their social standing heavily. how could they have let such a nice child be "possessed" like she was? In order to try and salvage their climb up the social ladder, she was disowned, stricken from their family when she was cast out.

They tried briefly to resume contact with her when she rejoined the church (after accepting Asmodeus' contract), as they personally had little influence or abilities to actually rise in stature and saw her salvation as yet another tool in their quest. By the point they were finally able to make contact however, they had been replaced by Asmodeus in Seren's heart and when they confronted her about rejoining the family, Seren laughed and responded with a simple "No."

Seren has no thoughts or care about her parents and the family she was born into, and they only think of Seren in spite; about what she could have done for them. Her parents quest to rise the social ladder far outweighing what loyalty they have to blood relations.

In a campaign like this, I would like to leave the parents alive and out of mind for now. As our power grows throughout the adventure, there may come a time where our power becomes sufficient for the nobles to want to pick sides. Her parents could then once again seek her out, in their eternal quest for more social power. Lets you/me bring the backstory back in later in the campaign.

(edit:little bit more about the parents)

@GM:
Eric was bullied by the other kids because they thought he was stupid. I'm playing his low intelligence as he is not well-learned, but fairly "street-smart" (since his Int is just a little below average and he has a higher Wis). The clergy knew about it, but since Eric was unable to control his anger, the clergy just put him in special classes (To account for his rank in Knowledge Religion) so that maybe that could encourage him more in the ways of Mitra.

I'll see if I can clean up the story a little bit to account for that better.

@GM yeah I'm sure Cole was suspected and everyone thinks he did it, but with his charisma and story and without the aid of magic to investigate they just went with the desertion as its a capital offense and either way he will be killed. And the group was under the watch of his father so Cole had liberties and slowly stocking up on weapons and armor didn't seem out of the question. It was only enough for like 10 men. Glad you liked the story.

After reading the preview again to make Artaius, I realized there's something that may be important. There's a mention of a General Barca as one of the schemers in the campaign's plans, and if I make Artaius a Barca, that means they'd be related. It kind of works out, given Artaius is a half-elf, but I'd like to know what the GM thinks about this. Would it be acceptable for Artaius to be from another branch of the Barcid family, or would it be better for me to say he's from some other noble house?

Shadow Lodge

can I use stats from previous character rolls
can I have a point buy or are we required to roll

Kana´s campaign trait is sedition.

She was discovered because she had no clue there were diplomats coming and didn´t know them. She was then accused of witchery and a lot of other stuff, after the diplomats found out she was not who she seemed to be and started an investigation. They broke her transformation magic with the power of Mitra, showing her true fox form to everyone.

Thanks all for your replies.

@Zousha. Making him related to the Barca family is fine. Quite fitting also for him to be against the Darius line.

@Lordfoul. Roll or show me where previous stats were rolled. If you don't like what you roll, use 25 pt buy.

You rolled 16,9,8 and 16. The 13 was a fifth roll but only four are needed plus focus and foible. Still pretty nice roll. 35pt buy.

What should his relationship to the general be? Son seems a bit too melodramatic and obvious.

which general do you mean? The one from 80 years ago? I don't think son would be ok. Maybe nephew or second cousin, something like that.

Vastenus Barca, the elven general mentioned on Page 6 of the preview.

Ok then. My suggestion is to not be too closely related.

Will check in tonight with another list when im home from work. I think i'm waiting for about 6 or so people to at least give me a complete backstory. Don't worry about stats that much. I'm not choosing you for your stats.

As for maps. Is roll20 free? Otherwise I could use google drawing or dropbox. Anyone have any great ideas? Preferably free.

Google docs can be used. Dropbox sounds good.

Will post completed backstory in next day or two. Maptools is one I've heard is pretty good. Somewhat high learning curve and most of the time you are making the map from scratch but it's great if you've got the time to spend on it.

Any issues being an asylum orderly that gets bit by a were-bat patient? The patient would be an aristocrat quietly locked away at the asylum to prevent his condition from besmirching the family's good name.

I develop strange nightmares where I'm flying around at night thirsty for blood...take that to mean I'm a vampire. Everyone calls me mad but only after I shapeshift in front of one of them do they lock me up. I escape their attempt and torch the place in self-defense.

The city watch that hunts me down is made fully aware of my shape-changing ability and capture me with relative ease and send me to Brandescar.

Would you rather I lean more to evil? I know Zousha I think was leaning towards the whole "evil-is-the-only-option-I've-got" situation.

Hmm thanks I'll check it out.

roll20 is free.

In most the campaigns I'm running, I use editable google doc images. I works well, but some people can't access google docs at their work.

In my shattered star campaign, I'm doing mapless combat and it goes substantially faster.

That's an interesting way at it Fletch. Burning a place down is evil enough. Just make sure your character would say yes to wanting to tear down Talinguarde. Maybe because skinwalkers are not accepted in the society if found out so they live secretly. Perhaps he wants a world where they can live openly. Being evil he would not protest peacefully(there is no way to anyway) but instead take to it with violence. That's certainly evil enough.
So being a skinwalker is something that is a disease? If you catch it frm a bite.

I recommend ditzie.com

im just going to use the previous backstory here
it's quite fleshed out

Anything that runs on HTML5, such as Roll20, doesn't work that well for me. I do a lot of my posting at work and I'm stuck with IE8. Roll20 won't work at all, and I just tried Ditzie and it only half-worked. MapTools is an entirely separate program, which means it's definitely out of the question for me if I want to post at work.

I might be able to sneak a copy of Firefox onto the work computer so that Roll20 can be used, since our "IT guy" is just about ignorant of everything but the power switch and might overlook another browser being tossed on here. But a program like MapTools is a lot harder to justify having on a work PC.

Here is a paraphrasing of the info from Blood of the Moon companion.

The first lycanthropes, known as afflicted lycanthropes) were cursed, spreading the disease through bites and scratches inflicted on others as well as in their progeny. those infected also become afflicted lycanthropes. They tend to have little to no control over their shapechanging.

Those born to lycanthropes, refered to as natural lycanthropes, generally have more control over these changes, especially those that find peace with their darker side. Kinda vague if they can transmit lycanthropy or not. I'd lean towards not personally.

Skinwalkers are a form of natural lycanthrope generally several generations down the family tree from a true lycanthrope. They are sorta like half-breeds in that they cannot change into true hybrid or animal forms (with a few exceptions, see the Bat Shape feat), but still can assume a much weaker form of their ancestors.

As far as my backstory: Afflicted Were-Bat + alchemically created tranquilizers to keep him sedated = diluted form of the disease transfered to my character when he bites me. I would be unable to inflict anyone else with the disease if that is your concern.

Likely too smart for my own good, I correct the numerous clerical errors in the alchemical dispensary (the warden has been selling the reagents on the street for a tidy profit and doctoring the books). He sends me to personally administer sedatives to one of the more dangerous patients, a man he knows has some sort of disease, in the hopes he will injure and infect me leaving his hands clean.

Sorry for double-post.

MapTools imports to normal picture files. Only the DM needs to use MapTools if all he is doing is showing the map. I've played with it before a little. I just link the maps to dropbox after they are made.

I just want to make sure I contribute well. And I'm thinking of retooling him completely. Human instead of half-elf, distantly related bastard of House Darius, and Tactician Archetype Fighter/Imperious Bloodline Sorcerer (starting as a fighter and letting his sorcerous power manifest in the campaign).

Artaius' mother was a servant in the royal palace, and Artaius grew up as a member of their staff. Before she died, she revealed to him that his father was one of the Royal Family. Artaius wished to become a paladin shortly after this. Even if he was never recognized as a Darius, he still wanted to make them proud. He sought a position with the palace guards and trained with them to become a skilled fighter. But when he sought to join the Knights of the Alerion, he was rejected. When he protested and claimed kinship with the King himself, he was laughed at. Shame turned into anger and in a rage, Artaius drew his sword and charged at the king, a reckless attack that was easily avoided, and the lad was immediately dogpiled by his former comrades in the guard. Nevertheless, that flash of anger was enough for Artaius to be charged with high treason, and rushed to Branderscar to await execution. Even as he was dragged away, he shouted curses at King Markadian.

"I won't die that easily! I'll come back! I'll prove I'm your kin, and then I'll have justice when I kill you! I WILL FIND A WAY! I shall find a way...or I shall make one."

EDIT: Still going half-elf. Mom was an elf maid. Maybe a lady in waiting to the princess? Draconic bloodline instead. How's that sound? Good? Just wanna know if I'm overstepping my bounds.
