Avyanna decides to go with Wade, making sure she still has the Veil on her before checking the Map of the prison.

If Wade and I can take out the guards on the other wall, then we can come in from the other side when they take the gatehouse.

She was able to keep up easily, having no armor or weighty items at all. The ration pack still sat at the bottom of the Warden's Tower, and the other in the Kitchen.


Human

Wade and Avyanna scamper down the tower out of sight of the guards intent on healing Grumblejack to fight for them again. Fletch drinks his potion and the strange alchemical magic projects a shield of force barely visible except for some slight distortion of the light that passes through it. Kana and Declan race towards the northern tower safe from enemy arrows for now. Cole remains pressed against the floor bracing against attack. A lone arrow flies towards him and over his head as a signal is blown by the other guard, alerting what is left of this prison to the escapees.

Well it was bound to happen eventually.

Cole! I think Declan's going to need some back up.

I close my eyes for a second mentally preparing myself for my next move.

Trying not to think about the guards filling me full of crossbow bolts, I make a mad dash for Declan's position ducking behind the meager cover of the northern tower a little out of breath.

Hope you've got a plan, Deck. I'm nearly out of crossbow bolts.


Fletch I'm pinned down for a moment. Take out the lantern

Cole stands back up, moves 30' closer to the north tower and drops prone again.

A dry snort was Declan's response to Wade's question, as his comment answered her question before she could ask it. "The crossbow was my plan. Without that, we're reduced to doing the same thing Cole is." Her grin was wide and showed her fangs quite prominently. "Fancy becoming a pincushion?"

Not waiting for an answer, she sprinted out of cover, moving as fast and as far as she could before the guards could draw a bead on her. Just as she thought she had sprinted for the amount of time that she could before the guards had drawn a bead on her, she dropped flat, emulating Cole.

Double Move 60', drop prone

Wade and Avyanna make it to the bottom of the tower. Hoping that the guards do not see them they ready to dash towards the back entrance and Grumblejack.

Cole slowly moves towards the safety of the north tower, dropping to dodge the incoming arrows but one of them finds a hole in his armour. Declan makes it half way towards the tower and drops as the arrows fly.

Fletch makes it to the northern tower with Kana who is now in range and casts her sleep spell on the roof guards.

You are all up again. Sorry about the delay.

I attempt to shoot out the lantern being held aloft by the guards on the roof. Unless that interferes with Kana's casting of the sleep spell in which case I will just full round defensive.

Lt. Crossbow Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20 Took cover into account. Not sure if there are any other penalties (like shooting at a held item even when it's very easy to see and likely held aloft).

4 bolts left I think.

Fletch's bolt shatters the inside of one of the lanterns, removing some of the light cast upon them. One of the guards curses but then goes silent."You failed witch. Im still standing! Come out from. Soon you will all be surrounded."

Wade and Avyana are almost halfway to Grumblejack.

Cole takes a move action to ready his shield. He then 5' steps into the doorway going full defense challenging the guard to shoot him again.

So we are to be surrounded are we. You underestimate how many are dead.

As Cole steps out an arrow flies over his head missing him easily.
1 is obviously asleep for now (unless woken up. You know the alarm has been sounded and reinforcements won't be far away. :)

I run towards the wall of the gatehouse. 80' so using run action. Hugging wall to hopefully provide me some cover.

@DM: Is there an entrance into the gatehouse near where I'm at? How far away is the guard on top of the gatehouse once I'm there?

Kana looks around, as she remembers someone ran with her towards the tower there.

We have to get up there and disable the sleeping guard, take out the other one. Can´t do that alone. Where are those brutes if i need them?


As the arrow fly's past Cole moves forward.

If I'm within 30' I let my sword fly with one of my blessings.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

If not within 30' will advance and stay full defense and do this attack next round after advancing again.

The only entrance is the main doors on ground floor. You could try climbing if you wished. The guards are right above you about 15ft up. You can see the one not asleep. He has full cover from you. Partial cover from the others. Just due to the angle you are at and the half wall that goes around the roof with archer slots periodically.
Cole you are not within 30ft. Double move and you will be. Not sure why you would want to throw a sword though.
Kana you are in the same northern tower with Cole and Declan atm.


Because its a ranged attack that uses my wisdom instead of dex and the sword comes right back to my hand. :) So this round will be move 30 and full defense. Next round will be move 30' and user a blessing to hurl blade at the guard

Yep, cool, you're using your blessing, I understand what you are doing now. Full defense is a full round action however so the best you can do is fight defensively if you move.


Total Defense:
Total Defense
You can defend yourself as a standard action. You get a +4 dodge bonus to your AC for 1 round. Your AC improves at the start of this action. You can't combine total defense with fighting defensively or with the benefit of the Combat Expertise feat. You can't make attacks of opportunity while using total defense.

Fighting Defensivly is a full round action. Easy to geg confused.

So Cole moves 30' forward in total defense, and then next round moves and uses blessing.


While she was exposed on this wall, there was little that she could do but wait for that span of time between when the Archers fire, dashing forward again while they were reloading, and dropping prone once more.

Wade and Avyanna run towards the back door, still unseen, you are halfway to the door.

Fletch and Wade prepare to assault the roof with their various weapons while the guard tries to shoot them down as they exit.

Declan and Kana stay within the safety of the tower wondering what they should do next.

The guard on the roof ducks down as he sees his arrow miss and two of the prisoners charging towards the gatehouse.

Cole and Fletch can hear:
"What are you doing you idiot, wake up." He shakes the other awake. "What do we do now?"
"Stay low. Blackerly will be out there soon."

The awakened guard stands up and takes a shot at Cole and misses before quickly ducking down again. Stand up, shoot, prone.

Perception FletchDC10, ColeDC15, Kana&DeclanDC20:
You hear sounds from inside the gatehouse, you guess on the bottom floor. You cannot make out the voices but you know it must be Blackerly and the men who were playing cards with him.

You are all up again. The roof guards both have total cover while they are prone unfortunately. Fletch can target squares with bombs but Cole can't throw his sword unless they stand up to shoot again.

Cole advances to the wall with Fletch holding his shield high he readies his sword to fly at the next one to show himself above.
OK Fletch if you have the scarf lets use the window and get in there.

@DM:
Lightint is important here. We will have total concealment from them unless one holds the lantern pointing it down at us while the other shoots.

So looking up I see Avyanna mention she had the veil. So that sucks maybe someone that is posting and playing this game should have it. Oh well looks like we are sitting ducks here Fletch.

Added the lantern's 60/120 ft cone on the map. that triangle is normal light. They can see you fine. These aren't modern day torches that have a small beam. bigger triangle shows dim light. So Fletch is in dim light and Cole is plainly visible.


Retcon

Cole not wanting to keep getting shot at moves forward and calls on Asmodeus to put out the guards lantern with water.

Move up cast create water inside lanter over flame.

Round 5? Have to DM Fletch for now. He hasn't posted in a few days.

Kana and Declan wait in the safety of the northern tower.

Fletch and Avyanna make it to the kitchen door again.

Cole puts out the lantern light with some conjured water as Fletch waits below and throws a bomb where he saw a guard last. He smiles when he hears boths guards scream in burning pain.

Everyone hears the double doors leading into the gatehouse open and a voice shout, "No one escapes Branderscar! Get the dogs!" Two of those with him split off to the right toward the dog house.

"They're on the wall!" One of the guards points and he and Blackerly move towards the northern tower. "Surrender prisoners! You are surrounded. There is no escape for you."

Two other guards from the eastern wall spot Fletch and Anevia as they run. Another signal horn is blown. "They are split up Blackerly! They are going inside." An arrow clatters harmlessly on the wall above the door and falls at your feet. "Get them!" he shouts back.

PC's are up. Total of 8 guards and 2 dogs in this combat now.

DM rolls:

Fletch: 1d20 ⇒ 8 5 splash damage.
6d20 ⇒ (5, 20, 12, 11, 16, 15) = 79
1d20 ⇒ 9


Ok Fletch the guards above can't see us now and you burned them. Hold a bomb for the the ones that come this way. I will try and put oht their light when they get in range.

Ready to creat water when lanter is in range.

Can do, El Commandante. I answer sarcastically as I already have a bomb in hand.

What if they just start shooting at us with bows or crossbows from the tower? It's 90' from here to the tower stairs if it's an inch. I can't throw that far.

@DM: Can I hear the guards still alive above me? I want to move closer to the northern tower where Blackerly and CO. are making their way to the top of the wall but if the guard(s) above me are still alive and able, I may need a different plan.

If guards sound dead, I move 60" closer to northern tower.

If guards do not sound dead, I throw another bomb up to them.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 I think that still hits the DC for a square?
Damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9

This will be Bomb 5/6 if the guards sound alive to me.

Cole, Looks like we are damned if we do and damned if we don't...Think you can rush the tower and hold off Blackerly? I'll provide cover from here as best I can.

I prepare to drink my True Strike potion once I see Blackerly and his group of guards entering the north tower. It only lasts till the end of the next round so I want to save it until I can get a good shot.

Avyanna waits for the sound of a signal horn before opening the squeaky door that gave them away last time.

Once Wade and her are inside, she quickly and quietly closes it again, before letting out a breathe she didn't realise she had been holding.

"We made it" she grinned.

"Well, let's be quick. The rest of the prison will be on top of the others by now. We'll need to figure out the best plan of action on the move." she said, making her way through the kitchen and over to where Grumblejack was lying.

"Maybe now wouldn't be a bad time to light a fire. If all of the guards are moving to the same place, it should leave the back half of the prison completely unguarded and unseen. It shouldn't be too hard to set the Warden's tower ablaze... especially with all those books.'

All those books!

"We get Grumbles to carry one or two of the oil barrels to the tower, put them on the top and second floor, you make a path to them up the stairs, I shove any book worth something into the pack, we meet down stairs, push a glazier over and move onto the eastern wall. We'll split up there, Grumbles backing up the others, he can use a mattress or wardrobe as a shield from the arrows, we might even be able to convince him to launch furniture and weapons at them from the front door..."

I never thought all those adventure novels would ever be applicable in a real life situation. I am definitely having someone write a book about this.

"While we pincer our way around to the other side of the gate house.' she takes out the map of the prison and the veil 'We use the rope and a weight to climb to the top floor of the Gatehouse, take out the guards, climb down the other side and let the others in using the window. Hopefully Grumbles is keeping Blackerly's gambling buddies busy enough that they won't notice us until we are letting the others inside."

a mouthful, but I'm kinda seeing it as her talking while Wade is fixing up Grumbles

Wade pours the potion down grumble's mouth, pre rolled this was 7hp healed,your plan has some merit but if we do not hurry the others shall die, I am hesitant to agree to any plan that does not involve either us leaving the jail, or going immiedietly back to the others

I'd be wasting my last bomb on them... but I've used two so they should be low...Awww, what the heck.

Seeing Cole's wounds, I kiss my last bomb for good luck before chucking it up top to the two guards.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 = 12 Not sure if this matters sicne they take splash damage anyways but just in case :)

Round 7

As Wade and Avyanna enter the prison building once more they see the two guards from the eastern wall head towards them. They run to Grumblejack who still lies unconscious in the middle of the tables.

Declan and Kana hold in the tower where they are safe for now and Cole waits as Fletch sends another volley of burning fire over the guards above. More screams are heard then nothing. 1 bomb left ;) you're splash is half their hp, annoying.

You hear Blackerly continue moving forward. As they move to surround the exit from the tower Cole snuffs out the lantern's light. "Hurry and get those dogs over here!" Blackerly yells.

PC's up. I'm guessing wade heals Grumble to conscious(-3 to 4hp) and Avyanna is still at the door from opening and closing taking up her actions or it is open and she is halfway to Wade and Grumble.

A grunt was Declan's response, her attention split between what was going on with Fletch and Cole, and the doorway to the tower. Having more guards show up would not be good. "If any more show, it won't be fun. If I can hold them down, can you attack them?"


Fletch we should probably fall back to the tower with Kana and Declan.

I run towards the northwest tower, Shield in one hand and my last bomb in the other.

Wonder if I could drop this on on Blackerly before he gets to the stairs? It's annoying having to throw around my fellow outcasts. DM, has Blackerly and the guard made it to the tower yet?

Kana will stay in cover there, but be ready to daze anyone hostile coming into reach.

Walls are 20ft off the ground. Height bonus only works on melee attacks.

Wade gives Grumble the potion, healing a few of his wounds, barely bringing him to consciousness.

"Grumble head hurt." He stands up and picks up his weapon looking around as if wondering what has happened. "We escape?" Meanwhile Avyanna stays at the door listening, she hears the guards coming closer.

Cole, Kana, Fletch and Declan wait in the tower for the guards to surround them. Blackerly waits for the guards with dogs to catch up with them. The dogs are starting to growl, smelling the dirty prisoners. "You are surrounded prisoners. Surrender now or die." He is 60ft from the tower exit.

PC's are up.

It will take you a round to get to the ground floor. If that is what you wanted to do last round Kana and Declan I am fine with you already being down there. Grumble is up but being so low on HP you might want to keep him in back and make use of his reach.

Seeing the dangerous situation, Kana steps forward where she can see the guards and dogs.
I think i could send them to sleep, those guards and the dogs. It´s important to keep the others from waking them up though, else my powers would be wasted. Can you do that? She eyes the rest questioningly.

At this range? It would take me two to three shots with the crossbow to bring one of the guards down likely double that for the longbow. And I only have three bolts left. (I think I used 5 of my 8 so far...)

I could walk back out on the wall and use my last bomb on Blackerly if that will help? Perhaps during the round it takes for you to cast your incantation? That may take him down a peg or two, making him easier to drop later.

Don't be foolish at this range your sleep would be a waste. Fletch keep your bomb for rhe opportune range when they enter down bellow. Lets see if we can bring them in.

Look Blackerly your a reasonable man and corrupt enough. The warden is dead, as well as many of your guards. We have your chest and things from your room. How about we work out a deal. You don't want to die you have a good thing going here. Just think about it, you will be the brave survivors of the vicious escape they may even give you a medal. Hows that sound? Continue against us if you like but by Asmodeus your body will be among the ones dead here. Clearly you have the upper hand here with the four of you and the two dogs that may or may not have been posioned from the same beladona that you used on the ogre. Oh yes the Ogre. Grumblejack would love for you to come in here and negotiate his surrender. And our alchemist friend full of things the warden had laying around with his alchemy lab. I'm sure the men you have been stealing from are willing to give their lives to us as your order them in here. Right guys. See who is the real villian here us or Blackerly he steals from your wages. He had a good bit of gold in his chest he took from the prison and its payroll.
