you didn't mind me selling the bard to Shui either, I think I will wait for Mister Whiskers and Crummock...

I agree that Hirah had it correct. She should have said it.

Really? I thought all it took was an animal companion without barding. :P

Mr. Whiskers thinks a moment, then says "Illarion Matevius, also known as Black Midnight."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

That's true. Go animal rights!

"Your answer is correct. You may pass." The Tree answers.

Einar inspects the bodies among the roots and finds a suit of half plate, a ranseur, a potion, and a scroll, two pieces of amber worth 100 gp each, a deep blue spinel worth 150 gp, two jaspers worth 50 gp each, 12 pp, 110 gp, 707 sp and 830 cp. Strangely he is able to take the whole load of loot from the Tree, with the tree, well acting like a tree and letting him do it.

Mr Whiskers identifies the suit of half plate as a +1 half plate, the Ranseur is a +1 ranseur, the scroll is a scroll of wall of fire, and the potion is a potion of levitate.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The party descends down a long twisting flight of stone stairs carved into a cramped passage of cold black basalt. Ancient wall carvings on both sides of the passage depict wide fields filled with wildflowers and springing deer. As they look at the carvings they all have a revelation and feel different.

Welcome to level 8! Ding!

The party can hear two distinct voices on the way down.

"Nem kellett volna hagyni, hogy banya Caigeal és táskáját a fagy óriások által vezetett kentaur át. Gondoltad, hogy hogyan tanárunk, Jadrenka éreznék? Ne hagyjuk, hogy behatolók Artosa."

Giant:

You shouldn't have let that hag Caigeal and her pack of frost giants lead by a centaur pass. Did you think about how our teacher, Jadrenka would feel? We shouldn't let intruders into Artosa.

"Igen van, azt szeretnénk, hogy a végén leverték a Frost Giant Hammer? Volt egy egész csomag őket."

Giant:

Yeah right, you want to end up crushed by a Frost Giant Hammer? There were a whole pack of them.

"Ez nem számít - Jadrenka tanított nekünk mindent, amit tudunk. Hálásnak kell lennünk vele. És azt mondta, hogy ne hagyja, hogy az embereket Artosa."

Giant:

That doesn't matter - Jadrenka has been teaching us everything we know. We should be grateful to her. And she told us NOT to let people into Artosa.

"Jadrenka nem kell együtt élni a következményekkel. Inkább lennék egy élő kutya, akkor a halott oroszlán."

Giant:

Jadrenka doesn't have to live with the consequences. I'd rather be a live dog, then a dead lion.

Greta helpfully translates the entire conversation.
The entire party may look at the spoilers whether you have Giant as a language known or not

After a final turn, the stairs end 500 ft below in a large rectangular chamber.

Hirah, your first heightened awareness wore out. Tick one off, you're on the second one. Your perceive cues spell has also worn off, so you're on the second one. Needless to say, Einar's resist energy and see invisibility have worn off too.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Hewn from the surrounding bastalt, the wall of this large chamber has been chiseled into an incredibly intricate display of thousands of wildflowers. In the middle of each carving, a wreath of pinecones encircles a life-sized carving of a young nude woman. On the north wall, the figure washes her hair. On the east wall, the figure sits staring upwards at a cresent moon. On the south wall, the figure picks up a bouquet of flowers, while to the west, the figure points to a triangular, knot-shaped symbol. To the north, a curving stone staircase climbs up and disappears into the western wall, while an open archway beckons in the southwest chamber.

Mr Whiskers knowledge nature: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Greta knowledge nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Mr Whiskers has a temporary memory block and Greta explains that the moon phase on the east wall is the waxing cresent.

Mr Whiskers knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Hirah knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Greta knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Mr Whiskers identifies the triangular knot on the west wall as a triquetra, a symbol used by Iobarian witches to represent the journey through the three stages of a woman's life, maiden, mother and crone.

The party finally sees where the voices come from. They come from a lumbering, two-headed giant with one sickle in each fist, with a pig by her side.

Mr Whiskers knowledge local: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

Mr Whiskers identifies the creature as an ettin. It can twf without penalty, and also...use two hexes a round, since this one is a witch.

Slide 9

Throughout this dungeon, unless otherwise noted, chambers have cellings 30 ft high, while celling height in passageways between rooms is 8 ft high, and the passage width is 8ft. Aka, anyone large in passageways must squeeze. Each square is 10 ft.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The Ettin notices the party.

The left head looks nervously at the party and asks, "Több betolakodóktól? Miért több, behatolók Artosa."

Giant:

More intruders? Why are we having more intruders in Artosa.

The right head answers, "Ne hagyjuk, hogy több behatolók Artosa. Már nem Jadrenka egyszer!" It glares angrily at the party

Giant:

We shouldn't let more intruders into Artosa. We've already failed Jadrenka once!

Greta again helpfully translates everything.

What does the party do?

Crude stone stairs twist through this winding passage The temperature drops sharply and a rime of hoarfrost settles on the walls. The party sees a door heading south east and Einar teases it open on his first try. DC 30 disable device but since you'll eventually get it...

This natural cavern is warm and humid and stinks of stagnant water. Wisps of water vapor hover just above the floor, somewhat concealing a swampy morass of fungus. In some areas of the cave, large lump piles of fungus rise from the slop like fetid islands, and long rubbery fungal strands hang from the cellings and walls.

A huge plant with its thick trunk is capped by a crown of wide leaves, whipping vines, mushrooms, and a ravenous purple maw. A grinning man with the furry legs of a goat and a set of curling ram horns extending from his temples, and batlike wings coming out from his body flies 30 ft in the air above the ground, his hands on his pipes.

Both Hirah and Greta recognize the grinning man as half-fiend Satyr.

Pipes-
A satyr can focus and empower his magic by playing haunting melodies on his panpipes. When he plays, all creatures within a 60-foot radius must make a Will save or be affected by charm person, fear, sleep, or suggestion, depending on what tune the satyr chooses. A creature that successfully saves against any of the pipes’ effects cannot be affected by the same set of pipes for 24 hours, but can still be affected by the satyr’s other spell-like abilities as normal. The satyr’s use of his pipes does not count toward his uses per day of his spell-like abilities, and if separated from them he may continue to use his standard abilities. The pipes themselves are masterwork, and a satyr can craft a replacement with 1 week of labor. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Realizing he can’t approach the door without disturbing the grove, he sits and waits for the rest of the team.

As the team approaches Einar stands, staying near as Crummock begins talking to the tree. ’A Riddle? The guard tree is going to ask a riddle. At least the doorman in the hut has the right idea, ‘you come in you die’ forget riddles.’ Nodding in agreement as Mister Whiskers says the name and title of the black rider. Einar quickly begins picking up the equipment that still looked like it might be usable. ”No reason to let this go to waste.”

Once they are inside and Mister Whiskers tells them the ranseur is magical Einar lifts it up putting it in his scabbard with his hammer and glaive. ”No one minds if I use this, just in case?” Einar ties the rest of the gear to his pack and leads the team down a long twisting flight of stone stairs.

’It can’t be this easy, kill a couple of fairies and talk to a tree.’As the others inspect the room and admire the carvings, Einar keeps an eye out. Seeing the Ettin, ’Now that’s more like it, a two headed giant to kill, something I can sink my teeth into.’ Starting to move, so he could create a hammer and anvil style pincer move. Then Greta and Mister Whiskers starts talking to the thing. ’Really? A friendly two-headed giant, who wants to be told a riddle. You have got to me kidding me.’ Einar stands quietly as the others talk with the friendly two-headed giant.
Moving on beyond the giant, following the crude cut stairs, the temperature gets cooler and Einar approach-es the frost covered door. He smile and nods, ”Not so different from the doors in the cairns I would tickly when my parents were alive.” and he sets to opening the door.

’What a stench, is that the water? Is that some kind of monster tree and a fairy with goat legs and horns? Cause those pipes your holding aren’t going to do the trick.”

Looking around the group as the music starts. ’Should I rage or are one of these fellows going to talk to him. He did invite us to have a seat. No need to fight apparently Mister Whiskers will be so happy.’ Einar shrugs and begins to head toward the tree to have a seat. in Sylvan "I hope you have good mead for your picnic, no one seems to have any blasted mead."

The tiger rakes with its hind paws, with one paw connecting. The Fiendish Satyr looks injured.

With a shrug, Crummock attempts to stun the satyr.

Sound Burst: 1d8 ⇒ 1 Sonic damage. DC 20 Fort, or be Stunned for 1 round.

Crummock - I need to move you up a little since sound burst is at 40 ft, he was hitting you at max range of 60 feet. Also, SR. I'm out now so I'll fangle the movement later

SR: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

He drops his pipes, and falls limp in the tiger's grasp.

Here's a weird part. What happens when you're stunned while being grappled?

Tiger probably has to take all the weight or it falls as well unless it releases a grapple probably

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Tiger can definitely take the weight. Greta could take Einar in full plate, and his guy isn't even wearing armor. And the tiger with augment summon has more str then Greta

So what does tiger do?

Well, a cat generally wouldn't let go of a bird in its mouth if it suddenly went limp...

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

That's fair enough. I'll reverse the falling damage then

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The plant takes offence at the person who caused his best buddy to go limp and tries to bite him.

bite,PA: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
dmg: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (2, 2) + 11 = 15

grab: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37

Main reason is because I don't want to run what happens when you grapple a grappled creature. I think my brain might explode.

Crummock is now grappled!

Mr Whiskers and Einar realize this is no place for a picnic!

Party up

Geist pounces on the plant!

Bite: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 2 = 30, for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 P/S/B damage.
Claw: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 2 = 22, for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 P/S/B damage.
Claw: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 2 = 14, for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 P/S/B damage.
Rake: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19, for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 P/S/B damage.
Rake: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 = 17, for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 P/S/B damage.

Hopefully, the -2 AC from grappling Crummock will make a difference ;-)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

I'd say you can't pounce because one spot was blocked by Einar, and you're sort of squeezing in that corner

*shrug* fair enough. I thought that I had moved Geist into the room far enough last round, but never mind. In that case, Geist will just whine, and I'll wait for the rest of the party to 'fix' the combat ;-)
