Grand Lodge

Good luck to all my scaley brothers and sisters.....and the softskins too

Liberty's Edge

Yes, the ssoft skins need much luck. They do not have our good lookss.

Im neither soft skin nor scaley.... //^^\\

Seems I'm late for this game, but the stated GMing style sounds exactly like what I want, will the GM be running any other games?

Good Luck everyone:).

Given this is basically a dual game already I hope not... It is a level 1 game though, so if you have a bunch of characters already existing, maybe even for a kingmaker game, it shouldn't take that much work to change one to the correct stats, perform the chages to race and add a NPC level as well as change the background slightly to justify joining Liberty's edge. Of course if you don't have something ready, it'll be hard.

The only character that is close to ready is a masterless familiar named Zizi, and I haven't even looked into the traits and requirements for Kingmaker yet.

Just for your entertainment. The derived stats need filled in, but the choices have been made except whatever needs changed for a campaign.

Sorry, yeah deadline was today and I'm no longer taking submissions. I might do another game down the road, really depends on how active this one which is sort do a two in one is...

Without further ado our dramatist persona:

Kajal played by YorricksRequiem
Evan Rivers played by Oyzar
Wikiwik played by Krisam
Jarex the Scarred played by Grovo
Reafil by Galahad0430
Liam McGregor by Bogbear
Shogunto by adsapiens
Goran by Blackdow
Beads played by Seth86
Thrick played by Lokiel
Schub played by Webb
Gideon played by scranford

In the end I decided to weigh in Background most heavily, then the merits of individual builds, then the players themselves. The cuts were hard and a few of you made it by the thinnest of margins. If you want to know more of a "why" read the comments in the google doc I explained why and if you were on the bubble.

I'll get into party composition later today and we're not starting for another week. I want to in all honesty audit some of the characters a little more carefully before we start play. I also want to talk with a few of you on background as there's opportunities to tie you in better.

Now begins the polishing and fine-tuning.

Only for those who made it in. Hope you all have a good game.

Thanks for the opportunity! Now begins the Jungle Orc fun :)

Yay I made it in! :D

A week is a long wait though, can't we start to RP in the lodge or something while we wait? That might give you further feedback on what to do with the various players as well.

What are the classes/roles of those who made it? Maybe in the Google doc so people can add in themselves? Might be nice with a table. It feels a bit odd to have a summoner with so many skills, but it's cool too. Oh yeah, people should probably mention what different kingdom roles they feel might work for their character. not everyone will necesarrily get their primary choice.

Looking forward to playing with you all!

I am surprised to see that Morrigan didn't make it. I had kinda hoped there would be more non-monster characters. Activity being what lead to it makes sense though. Waiting around for dialogue kills games (Crosses fingers that there will be minimal waiting for me for that.)

@Korak: My condolences.

@GM_Solspiral Thanks for the chance. Can't wait to start!

To all the other lucky ones, congratulations! Excited to play with you guys!

Yes, thanks for the chance and selection!

Well, I guess my role is Primary Crafter / Battlefield Control & Support. I guess everyone can fill what they are on the docs after their own entry

Awesome! Looking forward to playing! Congratulations, fellow lucky players!

Should those who are yellow (damn that color is hard to read). Do something to improve on the points mentioned?

Does Liam not have spells? I can't find it on his sheet.

I started on a table at the bottom of the google doc, would be nice if people could add in shorthand info there so it's easier to get an overview.

It's feedback... feedback is valuable. There's a little to work on if you're in yellow. If I called out a sparse background we need to discuss your background more.

The Lizardman I have a few great tie ins that will pay off later. The Kobolds can easily get into a tribal based subplot.

Liam does have spells, looks like they got lost in another folder due to a missed [/spoiler]
Fixed now.

Oh god, going through possible positions and there are SO MANY! Jarx could potentially fill a lot of them due to his characteristic but so far Magister or Master Builder/Royal Architect seem to be the best options. Master of the Coin also strives to be a strong candidate position but I rather first hear opinion from others.

Also as only Wizard Magister makes sense but being Kobold and him learning his magic "how ever kobolds learn them" could push him more towards Master Builder (heck, even his whole concept of crafting is kind of supporting both positions). Hard decisions....

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

wow! Thanks! I was afraid since I had so little time to work on the background that this one had flown the coop. Now I'm back from vacation, and eager to put more effort into the character.

Wait, wait, I got rejected because I said interjection games classes were fun?! I did nothing to insult you but you took it as something personal so I got rejected? Oh, well screw that then. That was in reaction specifically to why I would want to play one before we had straightened out I meant interjection games as opposed to the archetype.

I had a hard choice between the briar knight and herbalist, and the fact that I was rejected because I answered a question posted alongside my character by (presumably) the GM, well.

I'm quite frankly insulted furious.

Am pulling together my skill set and spells whilst remaining in keeping with my character's background and also the group's needs.

As a former Pioneer Göran starts the game with a horse. Not planning on using it as a steed - more portage, so will likely spend coin on a cart as well. Food for thought for the group should they wish to store items and hitch a ride (particularly the wee dragonkin ;)

It was the final issue... there were several others I discussed with you privately. The fact that you're insulted/furious and that you feel the need to take that to this thread rather than either keeping it to yourself and moving on or PMing privately reinforces my concerns and ultimately my decision.

Okay tried letting you down easy, here's the more lengthy reasoning that had me considering for the past couple days.:

It was hard to turn down your enthusiasm but I had serious concerns about boundaries with you. I ran a 100 person LARP in college and had more than one player decide it was appropriate to call me at 4am in character and ask for an NPC. I had a more serious issue with another player who's character died that threatened suicide.

Something about you reminds me of that type of player. I've been GMing in one form or another for almost 30 years, my gut told me not to take you. I attempted an easy let down with the "I was hoping to get some playtesting out of you" but you demand a more honest answer in a more public spot so here it is, I'll be nice and spoiler tag it.

You came on really really strongly and in a way that I find alarming. Perhaps you're just young or have some social skill gaps. I had one of my best friends take a look and he saw what I saw. RPGs by their very nature are an escapist hobby, but it's possible to take them too far and quite frankly I'm not interested in going down that road again with someone online.

It was close I almost cut you... but there were gaps you filled nicely and there was mention that you were on vacation and I took that into consideration.

Will try to PM you my character background. The little I can try to put together for this peculiar race :) //^^\\

** spoiler omitted **

And at what point did I contact you? You sent me a PM about issues you were worried about being 1. You saw me on a lot of recruitment threads, and 2. I asked a lot of questions. According to you I answered both to your satisfaction. Had you in fact denied me based on my initial lack of reading of the first two pages of this thread., I could understand, I am usually much better about that, but certainly failed to do it this time and if I'm not willing to do the reading how could I expected to follow through on the roleplay.

That said, you gave a (seemingly) petty reason that anybody who wanted to look at the character bids could see. You're forum was just as open as mine, if not less likely to be read by those who didn't get in.

EDIT: To be fair I did contact Solspiral's partner Jeff for information on the Orphidians and asked for clarification on a point of them from Solspiral, it turns out the entry in the race builder was actually just that badly written and spawned multiple questions across the forum.

Yup, which is why I brought the concern up with the DM when I saw how 'enthusistic' this was likely to be. Bummed it didn't work out, but I didn't want to potentially be an anchor slowing things down either. Ah well, I will find another home for Morri.

Congrats to all who made it. Hope you have a blast!!

And sorry Jarx... Looks like you'll have to find another daughter. :)

A suggestion for the Kobold folk: Would either of you consider switching gender for eventually more couples than one in this game? I guess relationships are not for everyone, but they could add a fun element to roleplay. I guess this could apply to more people, right now there are mostly males in the group. Of course people would have to want to do it.

@Gøran: I am sorry, but it seems like your synergizes the best with all the monsters. :(. I believe there are no one in what is suggested as group one that would benfit all that much from your raging song... The suli is at least half-human I guess.

Hm, I have never really played female character and cant pretend I could. As a male its already hard to understand my GFs reasoning without even trying to go in her shoes :P I am just quite stuck with my way of playing

@Morrigan thanks for the concern! Shame that we cant really roleplay it like we envisioned. Have to find something else to keep Jarx occupied.

First you have to realize that it doesn't make sense, then all makes sense :)

What rules are we using for kindom building? The ones from Kingmaker or the ones from Ultimate campaign? Either way I can't find Master Builder among the roles though. Where did you find that Jarx?

A Surtova bastard doesn't have any station right? So if/when Kejal and Evan marry they could be equal rulers?

Haha, I don't understand my girlfriend that well either, and every time I ask for an explanation she very patiently tell me that it's "Girlfriend rules" or "girlfriend logic" in play.

Jarx the Scarred wrote:

Honestly I never try to use real people because it hurts my brain and I never know why anyone does the things they do. I usually find some kind of character that embodies personality traits that I want to have. For instance, I've been playing a Monk in a Rise of the Runelords game for about two years, and she was both my first evil and female character. And she's essentially equal parts "What if Buffy was evil" and Azula from The Last Airbender.

There's nothing specifically about that premise that forces that character to be either gender, though. The personality traits that I was going for could easily work for both. And I generally don't go down the route of "What makes this character male or female", and just go with what feels right, or what I'm interested in playing for that particular game.

Hell, in a Mummy's Mask game I'm playing a Summoner and Eidolon as a couple. Essentially they're both Efreeti Genies but the Summoner was bound by a wizard (in typical Genie fashion) with iron cuffs that severely limit his power, and they're searching for a cure. It's an absurd amount of fun.

I wouldn't say "Hey do it for this game", but it's definitely worth trying sometime, and there are plenty of resources on the internet for making female characters believable and not falling into common traps with them.

Grand Lodge

I made it in. This fills me with much joy.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I've never had a hard time switching roles between male and female characters (goes with the GM's job description.) I actually have a pretty boss side plot with the Kobolds depending on how a couple events fall out. I'm actually working up a quick "Kobold social structures in the Riverlands" mini gazeteer.

There's another potentially interesting sideplot with Lizardmen.

I actually ran the mod kingdom building rules and modded the ever loving hell out of them into something I liked a few years back Located here though I plan to revisit the Ultimate Campaign rules as I only skimmed them when they came out.

Unless we post at a particularly frenetic pace I expect I have a month or two as I assure you the Hexploration elements of the first "Book" are quite a bit more involved and the end battle of Book 1 will be pretty amazing.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Apologies to all. I am sorry for taking time from you game celebrations to air my grievances here. My anger got the better of me and I don't want any of you to think I was trying to argue myself into one of your places. I hope you all enjoy the coming game.

@Evan like GM_Solspiral said, I found that Role from his modded Kingmaker campaing page and I guess we will be using it along UC book rules or who knows.

Well, I have always found myself more comfortable with male character than female. Need to think for a while about that

If you are considering it you should probably talk with Schub. He might not be interested or maybe he wants to switch himself?

I don't have much problems playing females. Every other game I am playing in atm I am playing a female though. It's nice with some variation.

Grand Lodge

Thrick is going to be a lonely lizardman without some lizardlady to keep him company and tend to his future wounds.

That apology changed my mind when it comes remaining an alternate. If someone bows out or doesn't work out as a player I will contact you.

Intellectually I think you'd have been fine as a player but there were enough red flags for me that others didn't have.

This thread had a total of 18 players express interest. I also had to tell my home game crowd who wanted to play (I had 4 interested) no and 2 of my writers from FPG. I decided to stay with those who went in thread and specifically chose players I don't know because it's better for play testing and keeps the game fresher.

In other words there's no shame in being edged out this thread had a lot of talent. There's also a very nice parting gift of access to about $40 bucks worth of PDFs that I'm not taking away for awhile. Just do me a favor and let us know if you have feedback for the authors. Writers pretty much run on coffee and positive reviews.

I'm going to survive all the books! Start up an entire Lizardfolk district in our kingdom. I've got plans.....especially for an arena. Great place to solve your differences without killing each other.

Maybe a father&son bond between Jarx and Schub like he wanted with Morrigan. Just throwing it out there.

Have to think about changing gender, would be the first time I play a female.

I'm pretty sure you could play a female. I've got faith in your roleplay from what i've seen of your character.

White scaled and redscaled would not likely be related.
