Very intriguing! I'd love to hear more. :)

Well both characters have a martial bent and build something. One makes crazy modified guns hat they can even adjust like a spell caster adjusts their spells the other tinkers with a mechanical mount made from clockwork components.

A good PRC would balance advancing your creations and maybe add a few features to make them more compatible (like a weapon mount on the clockwork mount and so on...)

Right now the idea is half baked but you know...

Wee question GM_Solspiral... Can we select Additional Traits as a 1st Level Feat?

Am putting the finishing touches on my submission; (Totemic)Skald/Commoner (Forester) - blending Slavic and Norse flavour with him... some more traits (which I'm a big fan of) will help add a dash of crunch to his history and build.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Yep that feat is fine (and actually a favorite of mine) just remember the category rule. The trait we discussed can be a social trait

Sovereign Court

Ah, late to the party, but still going to take a shot. Looking at a Hobgoblin fighter of the Aldori swordlord persuasion. I remember from old 3.5 that the book of Nine Swords was from fighting schools started by the Hobgoblins, going to go with the ancient hobgoblin Sword Saints idea as a motivator for my character.
Questions: I see your version of Hobgoblin is similar to the original. Can we use the alternate racial traits? For instance I was considering the one where you replace Sneaky with Fearsome.
Also, I checked the whole thread, but didn't see if anyone asked about taking a drawback for an additional trait? (though with 200+ posts, I may have missed it)

I will have completed character up this evening. Thank you.

I am still not sure if i should go rogue/wizard. Or wizard/rogue...

@Gm: maybe simply allow gestalt for first level only? That way XP and programs like herolab dont get confusing i think. Just a suggestion

Sovereign Court

Oops, one more question. We should count the NPC class as level 0, correct? In other words we won't be considered 2nd level to start (as far as feat progression goes)?

Grand Lodge

I recommend going wizard and then taking a level in rogue. Its nice to have some spells at first level.

@GM
Noted
Will do so then :)

As a note... his magic is to help him be a rogue. So those will be the kind of spells he will prepare. To make him more rogue like //^^\\

Grand Lodge

Rogue in that case.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

@Seth86 I'm still drawing the line on Gestalt, sorry. I'm a fairly liberal GM but in my opinion Gestalt gets too confusing and frankly I have enough to keep track of. Personally I'd start rogue as arcane is fairly well covered... but then again I just kind of like the idea of a spider sneak attacking people.

@Galahad0430 sending you master reference link to auto approved FPCG content... you're late to the party but before the deadline. The NPC class is basically a free boost but isn't counting as a class level. Consider the boost an apology in advance because I do not pull punches and you can use the extra HP and SK pts.

I loved book of Nine Swords in 3.5 but the content was not balanced well (at least not in my hands it wasn't.)

I'm call with drawback for an extra trait (and you are the first to ask.)

GM_Solspiral wrote:

Not to mention a pain in the ass. Korak here was my first gestalt build and god what a headache. Still love and want to play him though.

Sovereign Court

Thank you, I agree there were serious balance issues with Nine Swords. I was only referring to the story part of the book. It has a whole part based on the different Schools being originated by the Hobgoblins, thought the thematic part would play well with the idea of a hobgoblin becoming a an Aldori adept.

Lol, I was watching Farscape last night and it was the season four episode with the spider creature sneak attacking the crew :)

Wow, I just realized summoners only get 70 gold to start with. Using all of that on a dwarven longhammer for my eidolon seems a bit heavy... Is pregame crafting allowed? Though even with guidance I need to be somewhat lucky with rolls (or aid) to even save money. This is not the kind of setting where buying exotic weapons will be easy.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Starting Wealth is 250GP flat for everyone- no more than 1 master work item to start (unless you took a trait or something) and no magic items.

Pregame crafting is allowed (take 10's.)

Everyone starts with 1 hero point.

Hm, since 3rd trait is allowed with drawback, I am more and more inclided to go that way (a bit minmaxing from my part admitted) but it fits absolutely well with the character.

3rd Trait: Spark of Creation = +1 Craft checks and -5% less on cost when doing magic items

Drawback: Family Ties This does fit perfectly as I Morrigan character will be playing huge role towards Jarx personality or if not that one, then Overprotective will be same reason as with Family Ties

Could you check my statsblock once more through to be sure, I have everything correct? I picture Jarx as a tinkerer / researcher; overdoting his brood, Morrigan (lol); have some damaging spells to help out during fights or more of tactical mind; just being in his own small world of wonderland

As for why he would be in Liberty's Edge--> following after Morrigan character and trying in his best interest to take care of her and protect her from big bad world, show why its such a bad idea to be with these non-scaled naked monkeys. Kind of dragged along due to his "daughter" decisions

Sounds VERY intriguing! I'd definitely be interested for another character, but I think my current guy is better suited as a gungineer. I'm dying to do all the cool gungineer stuff! :D

Okay, on top of taking campaign traits from both reign of winter and king maker, I am taking drawback mark of slavery, which explains why i associate with liberty's edge, and affable, which due to me being a nice and social person means I'm well known, helpful, somewhat of an honorary family member in many families. I think that covers connections to royal family I don't remember the name of, I will also have it expanded upon in my backstory once I write it down. And does anybody know the rules on reach with a natural weapon, I can't find it and I'm trying to figure if I can only hit with my tail at reach distance. Stupid slapping tail entry needs to be rewritten in the advanced race guide

Sovereign Court

I thought you could only take 1 trait from each category?

Galahad0430 wrote:

As far as I can tell each category is a list, since the kingmaker traits and reign of winter traits only come together in this, I see no problem. Though if the GM says otherwise I will of course change it.

Sovereign Court

Well, here are the mechanics part for you to check over. I will have history and such a little later.

looks good thus far

Soooo many monsterous submissions.... At least my character is not a judgmental fellow. In other news I think I finished most of the mechanical things, but I might have overlooked something. I also started on background, though still need to embellish a bit on the period between leaving Surtova and joining Liberty's edge as well as Goals/Friends/Personality/Appearance-

Could you be convinced to let us roll if we'd rather? My intelligence is such that I wouldn't be able to make myself a bow that takes advantage of my strength (I'd need a 17 and take 10 only nets me a 15).

It's not a huge deal or anything, but I figured I would ask. Here is my roll in case it is approved.

Craft (Weapons): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

[EDIT] Actually I can pick up the Artisan Masterwork Tools to give me the +2, I reckon.

No, herbalist from interjection games.

Ah so it might not suck, I'll need to look it over eventually.

Hmm, so that was why that comment was in there.

Gonna bow out of this one... I haven't really been feeling the character.

Hi Soulspiral,

I had sent you already, but now I put together the profile for Shogunto with a little bit of backstory, crunch and all the other nice details. :) I hope you like it. Let me know if you need me to adapt anything.

That came out pretty sweet. Cuts are going to be tough to choose... I thought I was going to have trouble getting people interested, this is a good problem to have.

If there's one thing you can count on with the P&P crowd, we do like our shinies.

Towards the bottom of the google doc I'm sort of messing around with different party configuration ideas. I'd welcome comments or suggestions.

First attempt was around party leaders. Second I'm building from healer up...

Don't think a kobold leader would be approved of but I would like to put my name up for the roll as Marshall.

I think Wikiwik would make a fun Marshall too. Maybe in the other group? *goes to look at the doc* I'd like Wikiwik to be in the group with Evan and Kejal, if possible.

I has no comments. I'm not surprised I'm not on the list as I'm nothing approaching a "solid" character as much as a (hopefully) fun character. I did wonder for a second how I could bring forth even semi-solid healing before having a face palm moment and remembering wands.

Rotolutundro wrote:

I think fluff and roleplay is more important than anything, so I would rather be in an unbalanced group that is fun to play with rather than a perfectly balanced group. I think a group with Wikiwik, Kejal and Evan could work great. You could say we are missing some on skills(we did all pick 2/level skillpoint classes), are a bit low on healing and don't have a great frontline, but Evan's summons and Eidolon does work for frontline and a wand could help with healing. I think Wikiwik should have much higher skillpoints (int mod counts for NPC class too right)? Finding a way for Wikiwik to get disable device as a class skill(trait or npc class) as well as putting a point in it would solve most of our missing skill needs, high ints, eidolon and spells will have to deal with the rest. One thing is for sure, we'll have enough damage with that party, all members of the party deal plenty of damage. I'll look through the options to see if I find something that works out this way...

Where do people find these extra NPC options like forester or coven sworn?

I agree with Evan entirely re: Party Structure. I know as a GM you said you don't pull punches, but I think we could still totally make it work.

Evan Rivers wrote:

I don't want to link it because the GM sent it out in PMs, but the Master Reference includes Available Races, Archetypes for some classes, and at the bottom it has NPC Archetypes. PM me if you didn't get a link to it and I can send it to you!

Gang I'm going to gracefully bow out also - not getting the time I need to really nail down the character as I envisage him.

The monstrous bent of many submissions will make for a really interesting dynamic, but not seeing my character really fitting the mould. However don't envy GM_Solspiral's decision - so very fun and well crafted characters.

Cheers for the opportunity.

If you seriously are saying that even NPC Class get that INT bonus... then Jarx will have ALMOST ALL his skills with at least rank 1

A flying scout and a stealthy scout both do wonders for our survivability in the face of a lot of areas with monsters waay above our CR. You could say our group don't have any full caster, but I really don't think that is necessary with all the early entry spells summoners get.

Sovereign Court

Here is the backstory for Reafil.

Reafil:

Reafil escaped much of the harshness of traditional Hobgoblin society as he was fostered (as ransom) with a human noble family at a very young age. For seven years he was educated and trained by his foster family, enjoying the advantage of sharing the tutors that taught the family's other children. Reafil was very intelligent and took a particular interest in the ancient history of his race. He learned of the ancient Hobgoblin Sword Saints a group lost to time in the decline of Hobgoblin culture. He saw the similarities with the Aldori school of present times and gravitated towards that training.

After the seven years, Reafil was returned to his tribe. It was hoped that, as a son of the chieftain, he would have some influence. Instead, he found himself estranged from his father and his attempts to revive the older ways of culture were met with brutal non acceptance. Eventually he left in disgust and decided to pursue a more aesthetic existence in the perfecting of his swordsmanship.

Returning to Restov, and with no small amount of finagling by his former foster family, he was accepted into one of the famous dueling academies. His natural speed and reflexes complimented this style well and he progressed rapidly in his skill. It was during this time that he was approached by some members of Liberty's Edge. They were intrigued by the presence of a Hobgoblin in Restov. As modern hobgoblin civilization and society was built on the back of slavery, they felt him out cautiously on his feelings on the subject. At first, Reafil did not have strong feelings either way and the emotional appeals they used at first had little effect on him. However, more intellectual conversations he had later with them had a greater effect. He could not fault their logic as to the benefices of free labor and slowly found himself converted to their cause.

Now he has graduated from the academy and finds himself at loose ends. returning to his tribe is not a real option for him and Liberty's Edge is still just vague ideas of action at the moment. Although his race is usually a problem, his three years in Restov have acclimated the local population to his presence and it is not as great a hindrance as it used to be. Lately rumors have been swirling about something from the council, perhaps he can find something there....

Sorry to see you go, I would love more non-monsters in the group... I think your character could have potential to fit in really well with the rest of us...

Well, I can read there the Google Doc, but I'm still a little confuse on what the groups would be :) With that said, I'd love to be in the same party as Reafil, assuming we both get chosen by the GM.

As for spells and damage, I definitely can't do much in the damage area, but as time progresses I should have a lot of control and debuffing going on.
