I've previously did a lot of prep work to remix Kingmaker with Tales from the Old Margreve and Reign of Winter and a few disparate elements that included community mods and all sorts of other goodies including my extensive rewrite/expansion of kingdom rules.

What I ended up with was a Kingmaker game with a stronger fairytale vibe, more cohesive plot, more politics, and a seasonal vibe because Winter definitely became a season to fear.

As a 3PP owner I've developed a ton of archetypes and villains that haven't seen print yet and could use some play testing. Things like my 2nd try re-balanced Warlock as an alternate class to the Oracle or my partner's off the wall alchemist archetype Botanist. I allow some 3PP content but I'm picky and of course vastly prefer my own stuff (Flying Pincushion Games mainly, d20pfsrd, Kobold Press stuff ect.) Ask and I'll consider most reasonable material.

Some warnings:
I hit Hard- I hit much harder as a GM then the APs do. If you're familiar with Kingmaker you'll perhaps see it's outline in what I'm doing but there's a lot more to it and I'll be honest and say I f-ing love adding class levels to monsters.

Rule of Cool- Clever play trumps rules lawyering. I've allowed shenanigans like a halfling using floating disk as cover or setting fire to a grease spell's aoe in the past and will likely allow for it again. If that disturbs you, I'm not the right GM for you.

Being a Murderhobo will Screw you- If you're looking for constant combat over roleplay and like to attack everything that looks like a monster this game will completely screw you. You have been warned.

If there's enough interest here's what I'll be looking for:

I'd ideally like 8 characters. Basically you'd be a mix-n-match party when trouble rolls down with 4 going one way and 4 another. Come together off adventuring time in council to rule a kingdom. Ideally the two "leaders" would be married. I'd have 3 threads, a unified thread and 2 sub-threads for party splits. It allows for flexibility if someone gets captured and it also allows for the safety net in case of a TPK, the other group essentially recruits the new group or perhaps resurrects the old one.

Creation rules/restrictions You get an NPC class level I'm not accounting for in your CR, 2 background traits, a free 18, a mandatory 8, and a 15 point buy to spread among the other 4 attributes before applying racial modifiers. No templates. We've actually re-balanced a number of races and made new ones you can pick or anything with up to 14 race points from the traditional races or giver my re-balanced/new races a whack. No Gestalt. No Mythic or Psionics. I'm also using a mod from a friend that narrates a previous adventure together and tracks a "Party Alignment" system that rewards you for staying within 1 step of the agreed upon party alignment.

So is anyone down for/interested in this?

.......

I'd be interested. I've always wanted to roleplay a romantic relationship - and having the two characters separate and dealing with the distance and worry seems like it would be a lot of fun. And even if I didn't get to play as one of those two characters, I'd like to see how it develops.

Also new races and trying out new classes/archetypes? Yes please.

I place interest in this.

Interesting.

This sounds awesome! Definitely interested.

I would be interested.

I'm using allowing races from a setting I'm working on which is balanced at a 12-14 race point standing so even the core races get a boost. Here are some samples but alt race traits and favored class bonuses are still very much a WIP.

Some examples:

Winter Gnomes

Summer Gnomes

Hobgoblins

Lizardfolk

Grass Spiders

Grippoli don't suck, Kobolds don't suck, you can play a squirel person... For my actual players I'll add you to the folder and let you make comments and suggestions.

Here's an example of one of our archetypes that Endzeitgeist loves (though he nerfs Tanglevine Strike) Briar Knight

I'll jot down interest too.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

Oooh, the lizardfolk look like something I could get behind. Or a grippli. I like these options.

Waves to some familiar faces :)

Very interested. Am drawn toward a Totemic Skald...

Liking the concept of the evolving lineups - makes for a far more potentially "real" edge to the campaign as the group/kingdom develops (different priorities, changing focus of roles etc... very cool and keeps the game fresh re: player and character dynamics)

Couple of quickies GM-Solspiral - will the game's cultures be home-brew-recipes or based off Golarian? Am thinking Norse with a dash of Slavic flavour...

Do you want fully statted up profiles or just concepts at the moment?? Am ready to ready to roll with either.

Cheers

I am intrigued, I have always been wanting to see kingmaker work but it just always seems to fall apart so I would be interested to try this style out and see how it fares.

I'm going to take some liberties with Goleran for the sake of convience in the mashup. mainly I'm relocating Irrisen where Numeria is and swapping the Narlemarches with the Old Margreve.

It makes the setting WAY more witch and fey oriented which will give it a Brother's Grim vibe.

There's a couple pre-AP stuff bits to handle in Restov that gets the attention of the local lord. You then go on an exploration charter into the Stolen Lands. Since it's Hex Map chartering basically I'm expecting the parties to split up there and there starts the 2 sub threads.

You leave messages, can gather up for boss fights, and run your eventual (hopefully we make it that far) kingdom in one thread and tackle adventures in the other.

I also figure on it allowing for multiple playstyles as one group might very well take a tactful diplomatic approach while another might well end up hammering everything. When you level you level as a group as you complete different mission/story arcs.

Once we get into Book 2 these will come in handy.

Mostly looking for playstyles and very general concepts. Maybe a sentence or two about the kind of character you want to play. Bear in mind I've got archetypes for all the base classe, actually a bunch of ones for the NPC classes and some WIPs for a few of the core classes so you might want to see all the options first.

Not gonna lie, I generally like to fill in the gaps so to speak so I leave myself open to what the party seems to be missing.

That said, I wouldn't mind playing a Slayer like type or a Brawler. The Lizardfolk is certainly something that would peak my interest for a Brawler (Wild Child) type. I have a Nagaji that I made in mind for a brawler but I think I would prefer the Lizardfolk build for it instead.

10 hits in under 6hrs and I know a couple of my local friends are interested... I believe we are now officially recruiting. I'd like to see concepts by 6/27 and make suggestions/share possible varients from my folders.

Something like:
I want to play a witchy arcanist with a catfolk type race with a CN alignment.

You might get a response that links you to my into the breach The Witch Book and our Tabaxi sryled catfolk ans an example. I might even mention there's a Archetype called majara bound that's all about cats.

I'll wait for a few days before submitting something concrete - Ideally I'd like to submit along with someone else as the married couple and work together on our concepts, so if anyone is into doing that with me (I'll be a good spouse I swear, haha), give me a holler.

Hybrid classes are something I haven't delved into new archetypes on yet. I might ask the appeal of lizardfolk as we have a few other reptile races, if it's the natural attack routine out catfolk or our Thri-keen might really make you happy (4 arms are better than 2.) If it's the swim speed (why would it be that) then there's a half-sea elf... The Thri-Keen make really really bad-assed monks.

You get the idea...

Hmm...well I would say it's a bit of the natural attack route in a manner. Specifically the bite. The brawler idea I have is a grappler type, so having the bite available to gash at the throat of my enemy will crushing them against armor spikes has it's appeal. (If the catfolk has a bite attack, I'd lean more catfolk). The 4 arms would be interesting though I know nothing about the Thri-keen so not sure on it.

Since I'm on a roll; effectively thinking of a Totemic Skald (Bear Totem) - a wild man o' the north. Reveres both the power of nature and of his ancestors (both are bound together in the ancient traditions... the auld ways...). He'd be both a front line warrior and speaker of hearth wisdom.

No idea on the NPC class choice - am leaning toward either Commoner or Warrior so any info on archetypes for either would be great GM_S

Göran Gullbjǫrn (surname is lit: "Golden bear")

The Northman standing before you appears to be the archetypal wild beserkir warrior: Towering and brawny, upon his torso he bears both the ritual tattoo of a bear totem and numerous scars of a life accustomed to violence.

The giant's ice blue eyes watch you keenly; framed as they are by a loosely braided mane of hair and huge beard - both the colour of a autumn sunrise. In one great paw he holds a great bearded ax, notched with use, and in the other a drinking horn brimming with medos.. As you approach he beckons to both with a shaggy haired nod...

"Well met friend. Do you bid me weal or woe? Will you drink with me, or shall Rauðskeggkaðr (Redbearded) drink of you har!"

Ideally, are you looking for a male or female role to fill the joined concept?

Interested!

How do you like research wizard type, oriantated to shape world - maybe a bit god complex - due to loss of his significant other. His mind a bit lost between past and present and trying to perfect his way with word magic.

As in what to play, I do find Lizardman word caster Wizard interesting or maybe Winter Gnome. Are there any other possibilities except these 5?

Would you have any suggestions/changes to a male elf briar knight.

A few questions to the briar knight, is there any changes to the vow I can pick? Is there any possibilities of protecting the vine companion save permanent magic vestment (and Photosynthetic healing)?

Lokiel wrote:

I am totally comfortable playing whatever.

I will say that the shield champion has also gathered my attention so I could drag off into other ideas...but I still have the wild child brawler at my forefront.

Here's races straight up Races of Celtris some or WIP but the mechanical chasis is there.

I replaces drow with a pale primal elf that wears bioluminesent war paint and has natural attack routine, that might be sexy on a Briar knight.

For class archetypes email me at frank.gori@gmail.com I'll send you a download code from drivethru rpg if it's published a link if it's not yer published.

We did summoner, magus, oracle, gunslinger, cavalier, alchemist (publishing tomorrow), inquisitor, NPC classes (currently being edited), Magus version 2, wizard and sorc are both in devo but there's drafts of some cool stuff available.

I am guessing the pot doesn't need sweetening but I'll take serious notes from playtesting and if you help me make something better of course I'd credit significant contributions.

FYI I'm not opposed to having a monstrous humanoid group with a more interesting agenda.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

How exactly would a grass spider go about wielding weapons?

Hm, regarding Word Magic: Would it be acceptable or better for me to stay for the sake of nerves (both me and GM) in normal concepts of magic casting?

Otherwise creating at the moment "twinkel" minded kobold wizard

Special made suction hilts usually costs +50%.

I'll admit I'm not super boned up on word casting.

Silver Crusade

Could use some tweaking for the Ardours but would you allow the Vindicator class?

Atm thinking on a Changeling or Aasimar, or if a Gheden could be built it would be fun... or a human with the Feytouched alternate racial abilities.

Decisions, decisions...

I sooooo much want to play a ruler. I am open to playing either gender, though with a slight preference for male. Anyone up for it?

Edit: Damn, at least two people applying for that already :(. Is this first come, first serve or is there some selection process for the roles?

I haven't gotten in touch with Lokiel yet, but it's entirely possible that we won't see eye to eye on what we want, so consider us both still available!

Yorick was looking for a relationship, which could leave ruler still open. There could be an entire party's worth of relationships in this group XD

That's true, actually. I'm much more interested in the relationship than the position of ruler.

Same here. Do NOT give me any authority whatsoever.

After looking at the setup for the catfolk of your world I think I would be willing to jump on it. Would I be allowed to adjust the mando 8 back to 8 (I had originally planned on using Wisdom as my sink but I am not sure I want a 6, though I could play with it as such. It does make for a very CAT...folk). The Shield Champion is sounding more and more interesting as I look at it.

I was thinking along the lines of the male ruler having bought his freedom from the gladiatorial rings and feeling honor bound to his savior will offer his services to protect and care for the Ruler or his wife if he so chooses.

YoricksRequiem wrote:

I am actually in the same boat. I really want to play a relationship. However ruler seems by far the easiest and most meaningful way to do so. So who wants to play with me as ruler? YoricksRequiem, let me know if you two don't figure out what to do or if you rather want to play with me.

If this starts at level 1 I would probably prefer to not actually start in a relationship (though maybe with the lovesick drawback), but to play out the relationship through the course of the game.

Jarx, the Scarred Mind of Kobold:

Jarx used to live near Old Margreve with his wife and two children. They were part of a small clan of kobolds, stuck mostly in their ancient traditions although Jarx and his wife were more adventurous types and wanting to try out new things: both in magic and strenght. Jarx was the weaker one but intellectual, experiencing and amusing his litter while his wife was the stronger one and expert with martial weapons.

Both were deeple in love with each other in their own way and deeply entwined through their times. However it all would change during one night in winter. The wind was howling and the snow had piled high, closing their small community to their own world from outsiders.

Somehow a small unit of creatures of wolves, feys or whatever they were, were able to enter their tunnels and avoid their traps. What only ensued after that was only a horror from the stories, like a evil hooman would threaten their famous kobold hero.

A slaughter ensued and blood was flowing, filling the tunnels with odor of iron and death. His wife pushing Jarx with the children towards their escape tunnels while staying behind to defend others and ensure their escape, Jarx was crying as he clumsily escaped both children under his arms, heavily buffing and wincing from the weight and soreness of such a rigour activity.

The fear pushing him out to the cold weather and trying to find a place to spend the night in a cold wind, freezing temperatures and deep darkness, despair was soon filling his mind as he realised that the children could not endure this kind of weather. Slowly succumbing to panic and despair as he felt the kids growing colder and their voices slowly weakening and disappearing as he tried to do everything in his power to keep them save. Half dragging, half carrying as his mind was clouded from everything he finally fell in the middle of the snow, emotionally scarred and mind flickering on-off.

Later as he would wake up he found himself in a caravan, shackled and bound towards human city and would later to come understand he was found in the middle of the road almost frozen to dead, alone. All of this would soon be forgotten and erased by his broken memories and hazy hallusinations. Confusing and interpreting small children or smaller races as his children or opposite sexes as his dead wife. During moments when he would receive his sense of ”presense” he would just look sad and to the horizon while clutching his only possession and remainder of long forgotten life: amulet, which he received when he and his wife were married and first time in their life together... only to wish that he could again forget everything.

The vine can be healed like any other companion. I'll send you another archetype you might find interesting if you like the plan connection.

Oh yeah, for class I would probably want to play a summoner, though I could also see playing a sorcerer or oracle. What is the summoner archetype? Not sure on race yet, though I would definitely want something compatible with my "partner". Humans might make it easier to RP.

I'll look it over more carefully this weekend, leaning toward saying ok. But what the is main appeal to that class in particular, is it the martyr aspect? I ask because I know of an inquisitor archetype by Mark Nordheim in our Inquisitor book that has some similarities...

Hey, YoricksRequiem! This bodes well! Bad Ben here. ;)

I'd be interested in playing a goblin or hobgoblin gunslinger, or a ranger, or a fighter, potentially of some other race, though I already have a background in mind for a goblinoid. The idea of playing such a creature with the possibility of taking over a parcel of land for fairytale shenanigans tickles me. Do you have any suggestions along these lines?

Sent you into the breach the gunslinger see the race link for my version of goblins... they might serve you well. Our version of Hobs might be even better.

We're at 11 interested and I was planning for 8... The good news is I had contingencies for 12+ so we'll be fine. I'm seeing a possible monstrous humanoid party forming up which can make book 2 very interesting indeed.
