Lure him in here! I might be able to defeat him with sime positive energy!

Tal'ariel's sword seems to hurt the ghost, as it recoils. She moves back without any problem, leaving an opening for another to join the fray.

Trellara begins Inspire Courage with a rousing song (in Common). She must have heard it from a traveler somewhere, it's definitely not Elven.

"Time after time as we march side by side
Through the valleys of evil and the torturing souls
Night after night, for the glory we fight
In the kingdom of madness and the tales from the old..."

Dragonforce lyrics for INSPIRE COURAGE +2!

Denied its prey, the lion unleashes a bloodcurdling howl.

Yes Hamailii, you do have a wand of CLW on your character sheet - just don't have the charges marked. I think it's full.

Hamailii's spear hurts the ghost as well.

It would be still up at 2 HP, but... Gaius, did you apply +2 Inspire Courage to hit and damage on your attacks? Looks like not. That's net +1 damage on each of your strikes (+2, halved for incorporeal).

Through the retroactive power of music, the ghost lion falls! It fades away.

As the battle appears to end, Tal'ariel tucks away her Mage Armor wand and draws her Wand of Infernal healing, which she uses on herself. She then quickly tucks it away again.

"So the Ghostlord really does command spectral lions! I don't know how much he would appreciate the fact that we just slayed one of them, although I don't know how else we can get him his phylactery back. I'm guessing we'd better keep an eye out for more of them!"

Too silly to read my own character sheet^^.

Hamailii sighs with relief as the ghosts dissolves into nothingness.
One less! That's good. We don't know wether they are still commanded by someone or ever were, we'll have to find out i'm afraid. It seems the legends are true though, as confirmed by the existance of this creepy place. How do we proceed? Just go forward? Or should we call out to meet the master of the place? In any case i could cast a protective spell who will give everyone around me a bit of protection from the forces of evil!

Hamailii would cast magic circle of protection from evil lasting for about 1 hour on herself and then weaponwand to insert the CLW wand into her spear, so she can use the spear to transmit the CLW charge with reach and gets the spear boni on +hit.

Sounds good, Hamailii. Any other preparations from anybody else? If there are more such ghosts, then Mage Armor might also be a good choice, even for those who already have armor. There's kind of a lion theme going on here with the Ghostlord so that one rather underwhelming ghost was probably not the only one to exist.

Gaius steps in to protect his elven friend and slashes away with precise strokes.

The lion falls!

The injuries to Tal'ariel look like... aging spots. Wrinkles. Things that an elf like her would not expect to see for centuries, at least.
No problem to heal this up - I imagine wand charges? CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 One charge will do it.

The corridor ascends in a smooth spiral. You see a wall ahead, and yet another spectral lion lunges forth from the wall! This one is much larger than the others, and you can feel the chill of death as it steps out of the wall.

Despite the ridiculousness of PF surprise rules, I'm going to say you are not surprised this time. It would just be farcical.

So:

Intiative:

Well how about that, it still goes first.

The lion roars and stares at 1 Tal'ariel, 2 Gaius: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Gaius! His body and soul are wracked with pain!

Gaius takes Physical: 2d10 ⇒ (9, 1) = 10 damage and must make a DC 17 Fortitude save or take Charisma: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Charisma damage.

Then, on your turns you must all either avert your gaze (50% chance to not need a save, 20% miss chance), close your eyes (no save needed, 50% miss chance), or endure the gaze (in which case roll your own physical damage, Cha damage, and Fort saves). Whichever decision you make will continue until your next turn, so if you close your eyes you will be flat-footed against the lion's attacks.

Gaius could potentially be affected twice in the round as per the Gaze rules.

Bran quickly recalls a story of a fellow fighter who was once forced into a deadly battle against a creature with such a stare. There was some trick... Martial Flexibility for Equipment Trick (Shield).

Raising his buckler and gauntlet forward, he uses the small glimmers and reflections to push through to the spectral monster. Move up toward the lion.

"Don't look at it!"

Equipment Trick (Shield): Keen Eye:

Keen Eye (Perception 5 ranks): You have mastered the art of using the reflective surface of your shield to locate foes that you dare not look at directly. On your turn, you may choose to forfeit your shield’s AC bonus for 1 round to improve your defenses against one creature using a gaze attack. Your chance to avoid having to make a saving throw against that creature’s gaze attack increases to 100%, and the creature does not gain concealment against you. For every 5 ranks in Perception you have above 5, you may simultaneously use this ability against another creature with a gaze attack.

If you rule it doesn't make sense with bucklers, I'll just close my eyes and select Blind-Fight instead.

Hamailii let's the divine starknife continue to attack and tries to touch Gaius with closed eyes, to heal him.

Starknife: 1d20 + 6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 4 + 2 = 271d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9

Touch Gaius with CLW: 1d100 ⇒ 201d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Female Half-Elf Rogue 1 / Wizard 4 / Inner Sea Pirate 1 / Arcane Trickster 1 | HP 66/66 | AC:21(vs evil)/19 T:17/15 FF:16/14 CMD:19/17 | F+5 R+12 W+8 (+10 vs enchantment) (+2 bonus vs evil) | Init+13 | Perc+15 (+16 vs traps) | Mage Armor

Tal'ariel tries to shield all of her companions from evil. I'm guessing I can't close my eyes to successfully touch 4 allies.

Gaze?: 1d100 ⇒ 6
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 8) = 9
Fort DC17, PfE: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 13 Takes 4 Charisma damage, which is actually extremely problematic!

She takes another step back.

Tal'ariel, you are all currently within Hamailii's Magic Circle Against Evil, which makes PfE redundant, so I will let you retcon your action if you wish. If you have your eyes open, we'll use the same rolls for the gaze (but roll 1d4 for Cha damage).

Bran strikes the lion once, and Hamailii's starknife hits again. The cleric fails to make contact with Gaius, but her hand remains charged with healing power.

Trellara tries to heal Gaius.

Sorry about that, is there room to just hit the bad guy?

Gaius strikes again, trying not to look directly at the creature as he does so. This makes his life difficult!

Sorry about the delay.
Sure, Tal'ariel, there is room for you to get a hit in if Bran 5' steps after his attack. You guys can coordinate your 5' shuffle so that all 3 melee types can engage, while Hamailii can use her longspear. We don't need to micromanage it in this case.

Gaius needs to save 01-50: 1d100 ⇒ 29
Gaius, avoiding the gaze means you have a 50% chance of not needing to make a save, and a 20% chance of your own attacks missing - unless you have the feat that Bran is using. Barroom Brawler is a good way to get these situational rarely-useful feats, BTW.
Gaius meets the lion's gaze despite his best effort!
damage: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
Fort Save, Magic Circle: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 2 = 14
Cha damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
His soul is tormented by the dire lion's unholy visage.

The ghost lion presses the attack on Gaius.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
The warrior's luck turns, and he dodges the attack.

Trellara again tries to heal Gaius.

"Stupid, bloody!" Gaius seems to be becoming less and less conversant the more he fights the creature, attacking more with blind fury than any real strategy!

Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 2 = 22 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7

Flame, Aid Gaius AC: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Stopped bothering to avoid the gaze - the more Cha damage he takes the angrier he's getting and tactics are going out the window.

Gaze Damage: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 10) = 15
Save against Cha damage: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19

The swords manage to slice the spectral form twice... it seems to be losing cohesion... somebody finish it!

Tal'ariel tries to finish this.

Though her attack is not very accurate.

Tal'ariel just misses the lion.

Should remember to tactically not power attack sometimes!

Bran seeing that Gauis is faltering musters up some inner strength and unleashes a flurry of attacks from the safety of his mirrored arm.

Rage Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Iterative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Damage 1: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage 2: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Though the attacks aren't very accurate, he feels that one of them may have landed its mark.

@Tal'ariel, All Power Attack All the Time is a hard habit to break. But yes, if you weren't Power Attacking you'd have killed it.

Bran's first raging swing is out of control, and misses wildly. His second swing, while still aggressive, is more precise and manages to land, the spiked gauntlet slamming into the phantom.

The Ghost Dire Lion fades away!

As you take a moment to catch your breath (and probably heal up), you hear a rumble of thunder outside.

Trellara still has her eyes closed. "What happened? Is it gone?"

HP 59/88 - AC 27 (T16, F23, -3 Buckler, -2 Rage) - CMD 26 (+4 v. Grp, +2 v. Trp) - F+15, R+10, W +6 (+2 Fear) - Init +4 - Per +11 - LLV, DV 60' - Rage 13/16 - AR 8/8 - Flex 1/7 - Res Cold/Elec 5 - DR 1 - Insp 6/11

Bran exhales a moment and turns to the others, "It's gone. We've felled the creature. Are you all ok?"

Trellara opens her eyes.
"I am fine... but Gaius looks awful! And Tal'ariel too!"
Both of their faces are scarred from meeting the gaze, as if mauled by a lion.
Charisma is not just physical attractiveness, so they are also affected personality-wise as they see fit (Gaius being more angry).

"I could try to heal some of their wounds," says the bard, "but we may need more of my magic for what lies ahead."
She will heal more if asked to, although between Hamailii's channeling and wand it probably isn't the optimal course.

The corridor ends in a dead-end, although Tal'ariel soon enough finds the secret door.

Just waiting for you to all heal up and make any other preparations - need to know how much time you take.

I'm out of Lesser Restoration Potions sadly...

Bran sizes up the two wounded allies, "You feel okay? You sure don't look it, but that ghost didn't do anything to you did it?" He seems curious and a little worried, "Either way we should use our resources as best we can, we can't afford to walk into another one of those wounded."

He pauses, "I don't know much about magic, but if we have anything that's less flexible, maybe we should use it first."

Uh just in time! This gets more and more horrible.
Hamailii touches Gaius who gets healed a bit instantly.
She looks at Tal'Ariel and Gaius.
You two look damaged, but it seems the hurt goes a bit deeper with both of you. I have one spell to help with that at the moment. And of course i can heal you!

I have one lesser restoration prepared, you decide who gets it. Also can heal you with the wand as needed, just tell me. Would keep the cleric spells and channels for later i think.

Female Half-Elf Rogue 1 / Wizard 4 / Inner Sea Pirate 1 / Arcane Trickster 1 | HP 66/66 | AC:21(vs evil)/19 T:17/15 FF:16/14 CMD:19/17 | F+5 R+12 W+8 (+10 vs enchantment) (+2 bonus vs evil) | Init+13 | Perc+15 (+16 vs traps) | Mage Armor

Sorry, work's been a bit crazy.

"Goodness, Gaius, your face looks awful. I can heal you with this wand, though it takes a bit of time. It . . . um . . . does feel a little funny because it invokes devil magic, but really there's no lasting harm." If Gaius wants, Tal'ariel pops however many charges of Infernal Healing it takes to get him to full (I think 5?)

Tal'ariel goes to her treacherous trusty wand to heal herself, but as the wounds close, she still feels a throbbing in her face. Her hands go over and feels the scar, the same scar that was now marring Gaius's pretty face.

"Wait--my face, it didn't heal!" This seems to send Tal'ariel in a panic. "Er, does it look bad? Hamailii, you can only help one of us? Well, obviously looks matter a lot more to a girl!" She looks around as the others seem to balk at her logic. "Er, I mean, I guess you should help whichever one of us looks worse."

Better to use on Gaius since he took more Cha damage. 35 charges left on Infernal Healing wand.

She grips her sword tighter with anger and determination. "Next time, I am NOT going to be surprised if another freaking ghost walks out of a wall!"

Hamailii takes Tal'Ariels face into the palms of her hands and tries to calm her down.
Tal'ariel, it's not as bad as you think! You still look amazing and i promise i can heal it with the help of Desna. Won't be a problem. Don't worry, allright?

If the CHA damage doesn't hurt you in some abilities, i think i would keep the spell for now. CHA damage would hurt Hamailiis channeling. Or for if someone gets other ability damage.
