Bran O'Dimm
Reflex: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Bran hears the familiar crackle of acid and just quickly turns to the side, avoiding the brunt of it.
Gaius Trevelyan
Flame leaps on the goblin as Gaius downs it, her now considerable teeth ripping its throat out, before she turns to the remaining enemies, growling fiercely.
Just fluff, since its already down.
Tal'ariel Rhuidon
Took a 5-foot step toward Bran. But it can still do a full attack, I think? The one thing I absolutely don't want to happen is for the creature to attack Bran. My AC is 25 right now, and I want to protect Bran from eating more damage.
Tal'ariel Rhuidon
Oh . . . I see.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Tal'ariel dances nimbly up the stairs.
GM Zelligar
The ogres continue their attacks, one at Gaius and one at Bran.
Attack Gaius: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Attack Bran: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
The one attacking Bran just manages to connect with a solid blow.
Damage: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (7, 6) + 7 = 20
Bran, I'm pretty sure I've been tracking your damage accurately. 16 points from the first ogre hit (17 before DR), 24 from the dragon's 3 hits (27 before DR), 6 from the acid, and now another 19. So that's 65 damage on him.

Bran - my mistake, you still had Defensive Weapon Training (Hammers) up. Ogre didn't hit you, and you are at 46 damage taken.
For resolving your actions, I'll just tell you the dragon has 21 hp left, and is CMD 30 (not counting the fact that it is prone). If you knock it negative after the first check, you can end the grapple as a free action and take a move action if you wish.

Sorry really long night. I lose Defensive Weapon Training when I switch to Greater Grapple actually. It replaces all bonus feats gained from MF when you use a new one.
Bran gets smashed by the ogre but refuses to relent on the dragon beneath him.
Grapple: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (8) + 27 = 35
Grapple: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (12) + 27 = 39

Damage 2: 1d6 + 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (2) + (5, 4) + 11 = 22
He hears one final breath come out of it and then he lets go, fatigue and battle damage starting to set in.
GM Zelligar
After a short but grueling battle, Bran snaps the dragon's neck.
The razorfiend advances on Tal'ariel. It moves nimbly up the stairs to avoid her sword.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
The beast slashes at her with a wing-blade, glancing off her magical ward.

Trellara drags Hamailii out onto the water, out of the razorfiend's reach. The Water Walk spell also works on the unconscious cleric, as she hovers just above the water's surface.
ACTIVE EFFECTS: GOOD HOPE (+2 morale to attacks, saves, skills, damage)
Gaius, note that there is a broken wall between you and the ogre to the left. It is using its reach to bash you, but the wall prevents you from 5' stepping up to the ogre (call it Very Difficult terrain, counting as 4 squares). You can also move through Bran's space, using Acrobatics to avoid AOOs (or just risk them).
Gaius Trevelyan
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Gaius moves quickly ahead, skirting Bran and Tal'ariel to hurry down the stairs and confront the razorbeast head on! Flame stays where she is, waiting...
Attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 + 2 = 30 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13
Crit?: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 12 + 2 = 29 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Tal'ariel Rhuidon
With Gaius engaging the razorfiend, Tal'ariel drops off the ledge and then fires an icy blast at the creature.
Acrobatics vs Ogre's AOO: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 14 + 2 = 33
Snowball vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 - 4 = 16; Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 1, 1) = 14
GM Zelligar
Gaius tumbles into position, but fails to evade the razorfiend's reach.
AOO: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
It slashes at him as he moves around Tal'ariel, but he dodges. He deals the creature a significant blow. Tal'ariel follows that up with a spell.
The beast looks very badly wounded.
The two ogres mindlessly try to pummel Bran, but fail.
Ogre 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Ogre 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
From the staircase, you hear chanting and a drum - and in step with that, the booming of giant footsteps. A massive two-headed giant clambers up the stairs, with a hobgoblin behind. The barghest comes up the other stairs.
Bran can take an AOO on any one of these foes.
The hobgoblin sees the scene, and while he is alarmed at Bran's size the warrior looks half-dead and exhausted. He laughs, speaking in Goblin.
The ogres, the ettin, and the razorfiend chant in a creepy unison,
Don't despair! These are the last foes in the Town Hall, and you have a significant tactical advantage against melee foes that you have not yet made much use of.

Bran lunges with a quick punch at the two headed giant.
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19 No linger?
Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
His energy fades and he becomes fatigued, though his rage is still pulsing through him. Spending last round to maintain Rage, AR will expire.
He begins to flurry at the ogre standing next to him.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 No linger?
Damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Iterative: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 No linger?
Damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
"I may be tired, but I still have it in me."
GM Zelligar
Bran hits the ettin in the right head as it comes up the stairs.
Correct, Good Hope is still up, Inspire Courage is not. It lingered for rounds 8 and 9.
Bran hits the ogre once more, but it is still (barely) standing.
The razorfiend attacks Gaius, hitting him twice. Near death though it may be, it seems invigorated by the drumming and its strikes follow the beats.
Wingblade, Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 2 = 33
Damage: 2d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 + 2 = 13

Crit?: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 = 20 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
GM Zelligar
Gaius strikes the beast twice, and it falls.
Hamailii, if you were to stand and take a 5' step northwest, you could also catch Bran with that Channel Energy. Where you are now you can affect yourself, Trellara, Gaius, and Tal'ariel. You would also affect the Razorfiend if it still lives, but it would be prone in Gaius's threatened area.
Hamailii D´Arquetai
|
Allright then let's do that if it's possible. Hope you can manage the razorfiend. Don't think i can currently see up there though, since Hamailii should be prone.
Tal'ariel Rhuidon
Seeing a cluster of new enemies, Tal'ariel casts a spell and a burst of glitter coats all of them! She then moves up the stairs for a third time, ending up on top of the unconscious razorfiend.
Glitterdust. Will DC16. I think I can hit all the enemies.
GM Zelligar
Tal'ariel figures that the ogres are more likely to be affected, and also hit hard, so she tries to catch the top ogre and leaves out the barghest.
Ogre Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Ogre Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ettin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Nurklenak: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
The ogres are blinded; the hobgoblin and his giant thrall are not.
Directed by shouts from the ettin, the northmost blinded ogre strikes at Bran, hitting him.
Attack, IC: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
01-50 miss: 1d100 ⇒ 68
Damage: 2d8 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8, 4) + 7 + 2 = 21
It then tries to shake off the effect.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The second ogre also strikes at Bran, but misses.
Attack, IC: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
It also tries to shake off the effect.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The barghest, finally feeling some courage and seeing Bran about to fall, advances to attack. Because of the rubble it cannot take a 5' step, so it tries to be wily.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
This movement provokes an AOO from Bran.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
01-50 miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 87
Damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Some of the blow is resisted by the fiend's infernal nature, but it is still a solid blow.
The barghest bites back at the warrior, just missing.
Attack, IC, Blink bonus: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 20
(AC 24-2 Enlarge-1 Fatigued = 21; will be 19 next round)
The ettin stands around and looks for an opening.
Nurklenak also moves up, trying evade Bran's reach.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
However, Bran does not have Combat Reflexes, so the hobgoblin is safe.
The hobgoblin keeps playing his drums, and concentrates.
Gaius Will Save vs enchantment, Steel Will, Good Hope: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 19
This sounds like a good idea and you almost decide to do that. But not quite.
Party is up! Bran is exhausted and at 4 hp.
Total Defense is an option. Also, both ogres are blinded, so Bran can full withdraw down the stairs without worrying about AOOs. The square he starts in wouldn't be considered threatened, so the barghest wouldn't get a shot on him.
Trellara moves back towards the party and re-starts Inspire Courage. Her Vanish spell wears off.

Channel Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
This should get all of the party except Tal'ariel but noone else. Don't want to risk getting that oversize lizard back to action.
Gaius Trevelyan
Snow hurries down the stairs to swap places with Gaius and take an angry bite out of the unconscious razorback.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Gaius meanwhile rises a short distance into the air and sets his swords to work again, catching the unprepared creature brutally by surprise.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 2 = 32 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14

GM Zelligar
Gaius, you're attacking the barghest? From where you moved, it has cover, but then again you have regained the +2 from Inspire Courage. So all your attacks would be a net -2 over what you've shown. Still good enough to all hit. Also +2 to damage on all of those. Now for the Blink miss chances.
01-50 miss, 1: 1d100 ⇒ 15
01-50 miss, 2: 1d100 ⇒ 28
01-50 miss, 1b: 1d100 ⇒ 99
01-50 miss, 2b: 1d100 ⇒ 53
And both swords are magic? So 39 damage, on top of the 25 it had before...
The barghest falls, dead.
Tal'ariel Rhuidon
Tal'ariel moves into position to attack the blind ogre.
Curve Blade, Good Hope, Inspire: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 18; Damage, Good Hope, Inspire, Sneak: 1d10 + 10 + 2 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 + 2 + (3, 6) = 27
Bran O'Dimm
With the nearby threats removed, Bran pulls out a potion of lesser restoration and drinks it, alleviating some of his exhaustion.
"We stand together, even after all of this. Not going to leave you here while I wallow in the back."
GM Zelligar
The remaining ogre flails ineffectively at where he last thought Bran to be. It's a good swing, just not where Bran is.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 2 = 28
01-50 miss: 1d100 ⇒ 40
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
He shakes his head and the glitter falls from his eyes.
The ettin delays.
Fairly obvious it is delaying until somebody is in full-attack range. The difficult terrain means no 5' steps where you can see rubble or bedding. So after the first PC steps into range, I will then resolve the attacks before another PC acts. You are in block initiative so whoever moves their icon is the one that goes.
The hobgoblin takes a step, pulls out a scroll, and casts it on Bran.
The spell has no effect!
Communal Protection from Evil just blocked a Dominate Person.
Trellara moves around, sees the ogre looming over the stairs, and uses Total Defense.
Flame savages the Razorfiend some more finally killing it.

She was hoping you'd give Bran with a Cure Serious Wounds, but I don't really want to have an NPC giving directions to PCs, and it's not like Trellara could shout this out without putting Bran in grave danger from the ogre.
Gaius's swords entirely miss the hobgoblin caster.
Hamailii scorches the caster once more. As he screams in pain, the ogre flinches, and turns his head towards Hamailii. Hamailii will have partial cover against the ogre for +2 AC.

As Tal'ariel sharp blade deals the finishing blow, she makes a surprise followthrough that strikes at the ettin! Cleaving Finish feat triggers.

Cleave off of AOOs was a big question in 3.5. Can an AOO (against some who did let their guard down) give you free attacks against someone who did not provoke. You might be familiar with the "bucket of snails / bag of rats" exploit in this regard. Cleaving Finish is the old Cleave. But the "one extra attack per round" limit reduces the Bag of Rats potential, so that's better. And, it's not like you've gotten a lot of use out of the feat. This is the first time "Cleave off an AOO" has come up in an actual game for me, though the rules debates and hypotheticals go back a decade. All that to say, this is fine, just no cheesing to get AOOs against Summon Minor Creature things.

But I was going to add Summon Minor Monster to my spellbook for this very reason! Just kidding. I actually never heard of this debate before, but Google quickly enlightened me to the uses of the "bag of rats".
