The name "Agartha" was my idea. It's an ancient city many do not believe exists. A mythological place.
The setting is all Kannic's idea though, I just supplied the name. More recently of course, Aananda gave us the reason it was hidden.
Cool. So it's sort of a work in progress?

Aren't all games, free-forms especially? :D

Point. I meant the setting, though. :P

Yes, it is. For example, we were thinking about whether or not Agartha had an ocean.

<.<Does it? If so, how many and how big?
I think it should be an acidic ocean. With laser eels. And electric, aquatic chickens.
...So, on an unrelated matter, why the heck won't you guys let me join? ;)

Kobold Cleaver wrote:Hey, I was curious as to how this PbP worked. It doesn't seem to follow any rules, so is it a Free Form Roleplaying?I hope you're enjoying the story so far :)
To answer your question - not exactly. While some parts of it are a bit freeform, we have also statted many things out (with some of our characters being the best example), using the Pathfinder rules with a few 3.0/3.5 and homebrew inclusions for extra 'flavor'. We're trying to find a balance between quantifiable rules and story-friendly handwaving to prevent the return of any of the 'god-modding' that tore the OTD threads apart last year.
Kobold Cleaver wrote:And, a lot of you were probably dreading this question, but is it open? Or is there some waiting list? This PBP is not open currently, no. We have two others who are on temporary hiatus and will be rejoining us when real life allows, but we're purposefully keeping the attendance small so we can (hopefully) maintain the quality of the storyline and not have too many delays / problems if folks can't post.

The advantage of combining magic with mythos makes it possible. You can fit an entire continent in a small space by taking dimensionality out of it, and inserting planar steps. Kinda like ignoring the gaps between atmoic components.
So yes, it can have oceans. The lost ones anyways. Atlantis anyone? MWAHAHA!
BTW, the time demon scrying is just a future plot device. A possible one. We can ignore it if you like. Just trying to work my brain back into gear. Evil genius brain cells haven't fully regenerated yet. ;)

He told me that Agartha is an inverted world (a world inside a world) and that it's very old. As I understand it, it's technological level is mixed and it has a fairly high concentration of magic. It was created by Gem dragons to get away from the crap of the world around it, but now a crazy silver dragon has gotten in.
As far as characters, I have an idea for one. Kar's an unwilling mutant, harboring a powerful transformation power (The ability to control his own biology, he can sprout apendages, make himself stronger, change size ect.) but he never wanted it. He's kind of a reluctant adventurer.

Alright, that's got my attention. ;)
I don't know if he told you that we try to cleave (at least loosely) to the Pathfinder rules for this PbP. While not all of us have stats posted for our main characters (yet), having something written down would be recommended, as there is dice rolling here :)
Would your idea be something akin to the 3.5 Warshaper prestige class from Complete Warrior, or the shifter variant from Unearthed Arcana? If not, would you be able to write up some mechanics for it so we could take a look at it?
I hope that doesn't sound too authoritarian, as that's not my intent. We all had some bad experiences about a year ago with power levels in other PbPs spiraling out of control. We're bound and determined to not let that take root here ;)

Kar Whitefall |

Oh, not at all. I know quite a bit about 3.5 and pathfinder.
It would be akin to a character with the wild shape abilities of a powerful druid (minus the elemental forms) and a powerful warshaper. also if you know anything about the complete warrior from 3.5, some feats in there would definitally apply, as he mostly just gains what traits he needs from different animals, or sometimes he just makes things up on the fly.
Essentially he can modify his DNA and bodily structure. To increase his strenght he increases his densite or size (or both!) and he can sprout (a bit painfully, unless altering an exsisting limb) any appendige that could physically work on a living animal, from horns to tentecles.
as far as skills, about the only things that would be appropriate are skills a hermit/traveller would have aswell as a bit of thieving skills (After all, it's hard to live with no income so a bit of stealing or lockpicking isn't too hard to understand.)
I understand where you come from with powerplayers taking advantage of freeform. I generally only get powerplayer when someone else does first, and only ever to keep up with the pace the game is going. as far as powergaming is concerned, I'm more into the storyline and Roleplaying than being the best on the block.

So, what all do I need to write up, and how much do I have to work with?
when can I get started?
[Sneaks in one last post before dinnertime.]
That's what we're trying to figure out ourselves ;D
We need to get the main characters back to Agartha from where they are now before we can easily bring you in, and we're trying to get that done this week if at all possible.
The good side to that is that it gives you time to write up what this guy can do (I'm assuming this is going to be a customized core class) and I guess send it to me for peer review.
My email address:
If you want to go ahead and make an initial draft of the character, put him at 12th level for the moment. He might be higher by the time we've looked at everything, but I think that's a safe minimum 'starting level' to fit in with everyone else.
Anywhoo, time for me to fly - the smell of steak and salad calls to me ;)
Night all.

Ok, I constructed a class so far. I like it and where it's going so far. I've emailed it to you Mr. (or Mrs. idk) Narrator, though I've already got alot to edit on it, it's very rough and I need to add more.
Once that class is refined I'll be ready to go on creating a character, which should take me minutes as I've already got the important stuff down. (The Background, Appearance and Personality)

Greetings, hail and well met I was informed by CC Ryo that I might be able to invest some of my time here as a player in you're lovely game.
Would my request for entrance to your group be welcome?
As a poster who feels the need to stalk every part of this game, I'd like to extend my congratulations on managing to get in. I'm not at all jealous, of course, but it's not easy to acquire a role in the great story. No hard feelings.
I hope you scream when my assassins rip your liver out, you stupid redshirt.Seriously, though, congrats. I look forward to watching your appearance. :)

That would be a 'Mr.' :)
And I think my junk mail filters ate your email, as I didn't see anything new in my Inbox. Could you send it to me again, please? ^.^

No problem. I have a few Ideas of my own to add to it (as right now it just looks like a druid with no nature stuff) but if you all have any suggestions, by all means e-mail me or send me a message.
As of now I'm just working on getting the statistics and logistics of the class down. Once that's all done I can get up the descriptions and the extra fluff of the class.

Alright - I'm pasting the information into a Word file that I can format and read a bit more easily. On to reading (I hope)... :)

I'm not seeing any new posts on the board, did something happen? If so, why did I miss it and what was it?
Holiday weekend. We don't usually post on weekends, though you can sometimes catch me. Also, did DB3 ever get his internet back? I haven't seen any posts from him since the one where he said it went out. And I already posted the explanation for why I won't be there today. No worries. The game will get going again tomorrow.

Kar Whitefall |

Ok, just wondering but, what all territory does Chan actually control? is it mostly just crap areas like swamps and deserts, or does he actually control important areas of Agartha.
Also, does anyone have a map? it would help alot if I could actually see one in front of me. If one does not exsist that's no problem, either way.
