Hello Alice,

I have been wanting to play Rappan Athuk for a very long time - I had applied before with Zeltor to this PbP - he was built specifically with RA in mind, his background and everything - so here he is again (alias link).

I am aware that maybe he does not meet exactly what the group needs at the moment, but the fact is that I had to put him forward again since a lot of thought has went into him ;)

I am also aware that double applications are not usually accepted, but there is a cleric concept I have been wanting to try out also for a very long time, so I will link his profile - Heroden

Please disregard the stats since he was built with a random stat generation method, but the overall crunch and fluff are there.

Let me know your thoughts :D

Edit: None of these characters are in another PbP

Hey there Zeltor! Either character looks fine to me - any preferences between the two?

Neil, either a cleric or a bard is fine with me, keep in mind I'm more interested in a brief persona (specifically: why are you interested in risking your life for Rappan Athuk?) rather than stats right now!

Hate to do this but I think I'll have to back out. Sorry to be a pain but I just got accepted in another game (that I thought was dead) and I'm not sure if I can take on another PbP at present.

Unfortunate since your one looked really good.

Bit of irony in the mix, I was half-way through building a cleric of Desna when Zeltor posted. lol

Best of luck.

Hi again GM Alice,

I am in the process of restructuring Heroden to meet the Character Creation and House Rules.

As to preference... Well, Rappan Athuk is supposed to be a killer :D I have been wanting to test Zeltor's mettle against such challenge, but on the other hand I can understand that a cleric would probably be more suited to what the team needs/wants. And I am not even throwing into the mix just how important a "roguish" character can be...

So with honesty, Zeltor is slightly ahead on my preference list but a really close call with Heroden > I'll let you decide if you want any of them ;)

Edit: May throw some different races into the mix, but the concept stays

I think either would be fine, how about you come over to the discussion board and pitch both to the group and let them decide? :)

Hehe, ok ;)

Hello all! Looking for another two people to join the group in exploring Rappan Athuk. Unfortunately, two members had to drop because of the evil beast named Real Life.

Our current party is:-
Tiefling Monk (Zen Archer)
Ratfolk Gunslinger (Gulch Gunner)
Aasimar Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)
Half-Orc Wizard (Evoker)

Please check out the house rules section on the Obsidian Portal page for the campaign and have a read around the main thread to see if you like what I'm offering!

Would love to offer a human rogue or elven cleric. What level and any crafting?

Level 1. You'll start with max gold + 200 GP (actually possibly more - need to check where the party is at) plus some amount of experience to put yourself on the same level as the rest of the party (to save myself a headache).

Crafting is fine.

I haven't made it yet, but how does an Ifrit Oracle (of Life) sound? Curse... Wasting I think.
If that's okay, I'll have something written up tomorrow.

Sounds fine to me :)

How are you for Dervish Dance, just in case?

Dervish Dance is fine. Honestly I'd probably approve a similar feat for most finesse weapons with the same restrictions (nothing in off hand, only a single weapon type, etc.) because seeing every dex fighter wielding a scimitar gets boring :p

So, looks like you're all filled up, which is cool. But just in case, here is my tentative app, for your consideration.

Harver the Red:

* Name: Harver the Red

* Gender: Male. All man, baby.

* Race: Tiefling. Demon-Born variant.

* Class: Fighter

* Appearance: Harver is six foot five, and weighs in at about 215 pounds. If you use the metric system, he's big and he's heavy(mainly from muscle). No two Tieflings look alike, and that might explain Harver's particular...condition. For one thing, he's red. His skin is blood red, his eyes are yellow and give off a glimmer in darkness, and his hair is jet black. He usually keeps himself clean shaven, though he does have sideburns, and while bald up top, he does have hair in the back that comes down to about his shoulders. His face is one of those fascinatingly ugly types, even without the small sharp horns that jut up. His nose comes down directly from the ridge between his eyebrows, there isn't any kind of 'dip' like with a regular nose. His chin is also rather pronounced, giving him a real "strongjawed" look.

His body looks vaguely apelike, big and built and heavy. His arms are pretty impressive, and his legs start normal, but immediately grow bizaare as they grow thick black fur and go from normal human legs at the hips and thighs, into cloven hooves that clack loudly. Very goatlike, actually. Or ramlike.

In terms of clothing, he's got very little, just a shabby kilt that's kept on with various straps and belts, and a tattered, equally shabby looking brown trenchcoat that looks like it's been modified for battle. Nothing else. Oh, and there's an iron chain wrapped around his right hand, and hanging from that chain is a big, heavy ball that looks like it can do some serious damage. But that's about it.

* Personality: Harver is a pretty simple guy, who enjoys pretty simple pleasures. A good smoke, a good drink, and a good night with the general scumbags and no-good lousy drunks that populate Magnimar's night life, at least down in the slums where Harver happily lives. Despite his appearance, it's quite easy for him to make friends with "his" kind of people, and it's also known that he's the guy people can turn to. He ain't the smartest, but he's big, and he's strong, and at the end of the day he believes in doing what's right.

* Backstory: Harver doesn't know much about who his folks were, all he knows is that life in the Magnimar Orphanage of the Church of the Grandmother Crow was about as boring as he could stand. Not to mention, his general shenanigans, dislike of reading, and tendency to question dogma got him whacked with a lot of willow sticks.

Needless to say, he split from that place as soon as he could. And after splitting, he partook in everything he was told he shouldn't. Booze, gambling, and he discovered that he was a natural fit in bars and pubs, and nobody looked at him sideways when they were hammered at four in the morning. And so Harver lived for many, many years, his life looking more like an episode of Cheers than the life of a typical adventurer. And that's really the way he liked it.

But he also was the guy that solved problems. Making sure the workin' girls are ok, making sure missing kids get found, and generally keeping that lawless underworld he loved safe. And throughout the years, he'd garnered the reputation of a problem solver there in the Shadow.

Well, that brings us to our current predicament. A distraught mother coming to Harver in the night, telling her that her brave, stupid young son had gone up North, to seek out fortune and fame in the infamous, deadly Rappan Athuk. She knew if anyone could get her boy out safely, it would be Harv. And so off he'd be going, a red-skinned almost-Demon to a region that hated Demons, to delve into a deathtrap, in an almost impossible mission to get a boy back home to his mother.

He didn't even think twice before hugging her and saying yes.

* Crunch: I don't have a sheet and stuff up yet, but here's some things. First, stats. Before modifiers:

Ability Points
Strength: 17
Dexterity: 12
Constitution: 14
Intelligence: 11
Wisdom: 10
Charisma: 9

After modifiers:

STR: 19
DEX: 12
CON: 14
INT: 9
WIS: 10
CHA: 11

My particular Tiefling's abilities:

- Fiendish Resistance: Tieflings have cold resistance 5, electricity resistance 5, and fire resistance 5.

- Darkvision: Tieflings can see perfectly in the dark for up to 60 feet.

- Fiendish Sprinter Some tieflings have feet that are more bestial than human. Whether their feet resemble those of a clawed predator or are the cloven hooves common to many of their kind, tieflings with this trait gain a 10-foot racial bonus to their speed when using the charge, run, or withdraw actions. This racial trait replaces skilled.

- Soul Seer Rare tieflings have a peculiar sight that allows them to see the state of a creature's soul. They can use deathwatch at will as spell-like ability. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability and fiendish sorcery racial traits.

Languages: Common and Abyssal. Although, he only really speaks Abyssal when he talks in his sleep.

Equipment: Armored Kilt, Armored Coat, Flail, and the rest he'd likely squander on smokes, booze and meat/jerky. Dude's a big eater.

That's it for now, I think. I'll add more as I think of more.

* How often you can post: I can't post at night, or Sundays, or major holidays. Possibly minor holidays, but I'm not sure about that yet. The joys of using the library for internet.

* Anything else. Bribery? A back-up character for when your first gets killed? Come to the gray side. We have paste.

So, yeah.

No decision has been made, so feel free to apply! :) (Indeed, as of yet you're the only one that has.) Thanks for your interest!

Here you go.
Ajax the oracle, specializing in channel positive energy.

Hoo boy!!
Gotta dip my toe in this one.

What's your deadline on submissions Alice?
Just so I can ration my time accordingly :)

Mmm no hard deadline in mind, maybe a couple of days? I had to put the game on a week-long hiatus so I don't want to hold it up too much longer. :)

Dwarven druid created using the random background generator from Ultimate Campaign (because it's fun :))

Well, after rolling the childhood stuff a Paladin seemed more fitting after all, and it's been a while since I got a chance to play one of those :) Will be reusing an old Alias that got rejected from a RotRL game, just gotta put all the pieces together :)

I always liked the idea of dwarven druids... maybe with a pet badger or bat or giant lizard of some sort... or a real earthy focus... but dwarf paladin is cool too (Stonelord I assume?)

I really need to get a copy of Ultimate Campaign!

mmm, Druid fits well for Dwarves, but I like Paladins too, and they don't fit well in a lot of campaigns. Stonelord, yeah.

Let's say that if (read: when) DoonKhan dies one of his siblings (who happens to be a druid) can come and take his place :)

Haven't read a lot of UC yet (prefer to read my hard copy, which is still weeks from Australia) but it looks pretty cool from skimming it.

EDIT: Well, stats in profile, have to put together the background still, but he's a noble-born dwarf (mother is the equivalent of a baroness, father deceased) from the Golushkin mountains in western Brevoy who has been training most of his life to participating in the Crusades, but got distracted from that purpose when research turned up the legend of Rappan Athuk.

A Dwarven Druid's animal companion has to be a Pet Rock.

well it could be a pet Roc. That's close right?

"Level 1. You'll start with max gold + 200 GP (actually possibly more - need to check where the party is at) plus some amount of experience to put yourself on the same level as the rest of the party (to save myself a headache)"

So, I'm kind of dumb and can't math very well. If we start at level one but with enough exp to put us at the level of the party, can we just be the level of the current party?

Ok Here's Spazmodeus' submission, Alice.

Ok. Here's the character save for Exp and leveling up. I figure I'll wait to see if I get accepted before doing all that. Then it'll be worth the headache, ha ha.

Harver the Red!

Vamptastic: The party is over halfway to level 2. I could leave you guys with 0 XP, but it would be kind of annoying that half get to level up and half don't... anyway the particulars will be sorted out when I pick applicants.

It looks like most people who have expressed interest have put in a character, so I'll give another day or so for Black Thom to finish his up and then select the unfortunate duo. :)

Been a busy couple of days, my apologies.

Upon review, looks like you've got quite a few colorful characters to choose from. I fear my character would be vanilla, or I'd create a custom race.

I'd rather not hold anyone up. So, please go on without me. Don't take it easy on them though... I'll keep an eye out for the next recruitment if it comes.

Sincerely,
Black Thom

Hey everyone, thanks for your applications. I've selected Ajax Karashli and Harver the Red to join us in Rappan Athuk! Please head over to the Discussion board and say hi if you're still interested in playing. I'll check over your character sheets and clarify the XP/GP you should have and get you into the game by probably tomorrow sometime :)

Sweet.

Grats guys....don't die too quickly :)

awww, well probably for the best, I probably would have been overcomitting myself anyway :p
