These were my thoughts. Typically, since a PC does not have a shop, she can only sell her scrolls to a shop at half price. Full price is only earned by the shops who make a modest profit on the difference between cost + salary + overhead + taxes etc. But when you cut out the middleman between an interested party and a crafter (bypassing the shop), you can often get more than half price but less than retail price. The trick is finding a party that is interested in buying the goods at a 'discount'. The problems with doing this are:
1) You can get in trouble from the guilds if the market is rigidly controlled.
2) It is pretty difficult to find interested parties. If you have a shop your customers come to you. If you are a crafter like Belle, where do you go?
3) The interested parties are typically leery and may rather do business with a reputable dealer
4) The interested parties can turn out to be criminals that take your goods, your money, and your dignity.

Anyway, Belle was just feeling them out to see if they were a buyer of scrolls and might desire to buy the scrolls at cost + 20% or something. A price less than what a retailer would sell at but more than cost. But it is more likely a temple would be a seller rather than a buyer and it was a long shot. Its making things complicated so lets just forget the idea and assume they make their own scrolls.

Why would there be a difference in selling a scroll that you found for 1/2 price or selling a scroll you wrote for half price?

A scroll that you write costs half the value of the scroll to write. If you then sell it at half price, you make no money.

A scroll that you find costs nothing (except hit points, lost saves and the death of your comrades....but what's that to a seasoned adventurer) so anything you sell it for is pure profit.

I'm curious to know why we are selling a potion of cure light wounds, since we used several of these in the last adventure. If no one else wants it, I'll happily take it.

Other than that, the proceeds make about 1175gp, less the cost of restoration - so we have a bit left over. Any ideas what we should get?
Do we have a wand of Cure light wounds? Do we have a means to remove paralysis? anything else we need? alchemists fire?

Female NG Elf Arcanist (White Mage) 1 | HP: 8/8 | AC/FF/T: 12/10/12 | CMD:11 | F:/R/W:+1/2/2 +2 vs. encht | Init: +4 | Speed 30ft | Appraise +8, Know (Arc) +8, Ling +8, Perc +7, SpCft +8(10) | Active Conditions: None

Sure, let's keep the potion.

Belle needs to replace the following:
1 Explorer's Outfit (worn when it is cold)
1 Bedroll
1 Mess Kit
1 Tent, small
1 50 ft silk rope
1 Grappling Hook
2 Soap
15 Trail Rations
2 Water skin
1 Survival kit, masterwork

I think she can fit it all in the bag of holding and we can spare some poor pack animals life.

The 3 spells are going to take 60 gp to copy (10 per 1st level and 40 for the second level - please correct me if I'm wrong).

She has 200 gp worth of scroll materials and we could buy more if we want her to fashion some scrolls. Some suggestions:
Color Spray (12.5gp)
Monkey Fish (12.5gp)
Liberating Command (CL 4 for 50gp)
Glitterdust, CL 4 (100gp)
False Life, CL 4 (100gp)
Resist Energy, CL 4 (100gp)

After selling, if you do not negotiate, before buying anything, you have a total of 1957gp 2sp + 926gp 106sp 22cp (coinage) = 2883gp, 106sp, 22cp. Assuming you are paying for the restorations out of this, before dividing it up... 2323gp, 106sp, 22cp remaining. Divide how you see fit.

Action Items

2) Sell - if you want to negotiate anything more than 50% list price, please give me 3 diplomacy rolls; weapons and armor, jewelry, magic items. Please nominate the primary negotiator. Anyone else may Aid.
3) Buy - anyone wishing to buy, make a list, pay for it, and add it to your character. All normal gear is available. Anything magical, please roll that %.

1) To decipher an arcane magical writing (such as a single spell in another's spellbook or on a scroll), a character must make a Spellcraft check (DC 20 + the spell's level). But this one may be bypassed by the read magic spell and she will do so.

2) Next, he must spend 1 hour studying the spell. At the end of the hour, he must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell's level).

Belle has a +13 spellcraft and will take 10 to scribe the spells if allowed. If not, then here are her rolls...

  • Scribe Identify: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
  • Scribe Snapdragon Fireworks: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
  • Scribe Resist Energy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25

Writing takes 1 hour per spell level. So the whole process takes 7 hours.

Belle has a diplomacy of +2 so I expect she will aid.

  • diplo aid for weapons and armor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
  • diplo aid for jewelry: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
  • diplo aid for magic items: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

I guess she got distracted by crafting or something after the first outing.

I'll sum up Belle's purchases in another post when I have time.

I think Belle needs the HP back. Whether we use the scroll or the gold I think is a bit of a wash.

Reynaud is staying away from any purchasing or sale of items. While we are here we could look into a wand of enlarge person, so Reynaud's bodyguard area can expand so we aren't all bunched together like Starcraft units.

The same number that could use a wand.

So far, we have the following suggestions for communal purchases:

Wand of Cure Light Wounds (750gp)
Scrolls of Enlarge Person @ 12.5gp each
scrolls of Remove paralysis @ 25gp each?

Is it worth getting more scrolls of restoration? or will we have to limp back to civilization every time we need such healing?

Is there anything else anyone can think of that we might need?

    Eep! Missed lots of posts.
    1. When I failed to use the scroll, I'm pretty sure it's destroyed. :/
    2. I could use the bracers of armor, but we have a wand of mage armor, so...
    3. The oil of sanctify corpse might be worth keeping around. I have it on a scroll, but it's probably worth having around in case I'm the one who dies (again).
    4. Getting more scrolls of restoration is probably a good idea, considering it will be 3 levels until I get 4th level spells, and we'll probably run into more draining creatures by that time.
I don't have any things we need to buy that spring to mind, I'll see if I have any ideas.

There is a lot to consider, but I'm a little pressed for time :P

I'll just say yes to a healing wand and condition removal scrolls.

If we split 2k gold (or close to it) amongst us all it will amount to most nothing for a level 5 character, so best to use it for the group's benefit.

I will have a list of mundane items Garrosh wants to purchase, but it shouldn't be long or unusual ;)

Updated Belle's gear. Who will be carrying the following...
    Wand of Cure Light Wounds (750gp) 1d100 ⇒ 75
    Scrolls of Enlarge Person @ 12.5gp each 1d100 ⇒ 20
    scrolls of Remove paralysis @ 25gp each 1d100 ⇒ 42

If Belle, I will add to her gear. I think the wand and remove paralysis should be carried by Seir. I don't think anyone besides Belle can cast Enlarge Person, so I expect it will be her job. How many of the scrolls did we want to buy/craft? The 262.32 gp and 7 hours I quoted was just for the stuff Belle ordered, and none of the items above.

    So far I have...

    Starting 2343.82gp
    - 262.32 for Belle's purchases
    - 750 for the wand
    + 42.22 for good bargaining
    Current 1373.72gp

Garrosh, post your purchases and the total cost and I'll adjust the total. I'll also adjust for the scrolls once we figure out how many Enlarge Person and Remove Paralysis we buy. Lets keep the restoration scroll around. Walking about with -6 con was a bit frightening and I'd rather not have that happen again. I'd prefer to just sell the oil of sanctify corpse if for no other reason than I don't want to revisit the math on that.

Well, lets stick to Rappan Athuk.

That means (I think) the ghoul lair or the main entrance. I would prefer the ghoul lair, but I'd like us to have at least 1 potion of remove paralysis in case Seir gets paralyzed. That will cut into our profits.

the ghoul lair is the area completely of my own deviousness :) The Mausoleum and the Mouth of Doom near Zelkor's Ferry are pure RA. Granted there are also around 11 other entrances, but some of them are WAY over your head :) you most likely would DOMINATE Mouth of Doom, as it is set up for Level 1-4 characters.

    Any more purchases?

I like the sounds of the Mouth of Doom if we are sticking to RA, though I fully expect you to augment it to be more difficult. I'd like to level up once before returning to the Mausoleum.

I could spend more money on making scrolls if nobody else is interested in buying anything. I would recommend additional oil of blessings for the fighters. I'll give everyone 24 hours to speak up before I selfishly spend a chunk of cash.

Guys as far as where we are heading next, I'm trying to put myself in Garrosh's shoes. He is kinda rough around the edges, but a good guy deep down, which means that even though his business is with Rappan Athuk:

    - if there are hobgoblins raising mayhem around the area, tackling them would be his immediate concern. RA is there, ans as far as he knows has been there for a long time, and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. If there is an immediate threat, he would deal with it first. Being a good guy, and as there is actually no immediate need to rush into RA, it is hard to justify bypassing evil doers;

    - Second from that, he would tackle the 'place they heard about in the caravan' because it is closer than the rest;

    - Then the Ghoul lair once and for all, since it is on the way to the Mausoleum;

    - Then the Mausoleum since it is the one furthest away.

    There my two cents.

    || Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

As far as purchases are concerned, please keep in mind Garrosh is still packing two CLW Wands ;)

Apart from that, I can see no immediate need for anything except:

    - MAYBE upgrading his Cold Iron Morningstar to Masterwork (300 gold);
    - Getting a decent ranged weapon, like a Mighty Composite Longbow +4 (500 gold)

Between the two I guess the bow would be more useful.

Apart from that I say spend all the rest in condition removal or utility stuff, like air crystals, antiplague, antivenom, bladeguard, smelling salts, and vermin repellent? Stuff like that can be VERY useful.

And with that I think we are ready to go once we have decided between hobgoblins and the mouth of doom. Shall we vote?

    Mouth of Doom - Reynaud
    Hobgoblins - Garrosh, Belle

Seir and Brodin please weigh in so HoF can plot and plan.

Also, claim your alchemical item so we know who is carrying what. Belle will take whatever is left over and put it in the bag of holding.

He's been VERY quiet of late. Is he still alive? *prod* *poke*.

He's not quiet. He's lurking... Damned rogues...

    has anyone poked him?

Poking Rogues is not a good idea.

Brodin will want to go wherever he can rack up money quickly. The Hobgobs would seem like a safe bet - an easy kill with a bit of cash, followed by the Mouth of Doom then the ghouls then RA.

I originally suggested Mouth as I thought we were just sticking to RA areas, but if we are happy to go outside of RA the that's the order I'd prefer, but I'd be just as happy doing Mouth first and hobgobs after.

hobgoblins it is then. Time to move this to gameplay.

Remember to claim your alchemicals. Also, we have scroll of calm animals, scroll of cure light wounds, scroll of detect snares and pits to distribute.

Belle... Amazing work with the shop list. Thanks for that ;)

Garrosh will carry the Air Crystal and Bladeguard.
