so Belle, according to the CRB, scribing a scroll takes a day. Are you saying you would like to spend 5 days with the caravan, while they move south, farther away from Zelkor's Ferry and Endhome?

Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

wait, never mind....

that would be 10 hours work. You'll need to prioritize which you want to scribe, unless you plan on staying up through the night.

Just a situation where the CRB contradicts itself.

Belle, wouldn't a scroll of glitterdust at CL4 be 200 GP?
25x2x4

Hmmm, as far as I can see, I would say Liberating Command may be a good candidate to have on a scroll.

As noted, besides the nice fluff, the craft feat allows me to produce scrolls at half the cost it would normally be to purchase them. It also makes for a nice way to earn some decent cash (day jobs pay little) if we stay in town for a while and Belle can find a market.

Welcome Seir! Feel free to interact with the others if you like. I still need to know if Belle is going to scribe through the night and not get any sleep. And if you guys want to do anything else. Some RP of Seir joining the group would probably be good.

No, not through the night. I figured I could get some done though. She will get a full 8 hours of sleep but I'm not sure how long we got before the first watch or when everyone gets up and leaves.

Speaking of which, the caravan is going south and we were planning on headed north. They never said where they were headed. I'm not sure we can join them after we break camp.

Also, I think you said I could make another identify roll on the brass bottle and bracers so I'm going to post that in gameplay.

Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

You arrived at sunset; maybe 8pm. I figure an hour of eating, setting up your camp and talking with people before you settle in. You let me know your schedule.

Yes, they never did say where they are going. You never asked :)

Yes you can roll for the bottle.

I see. That does not give her any time to work on scrolls unless the group lingers in camp after the caravan leaves. I think she will put it off until she has a safe place to work out of and some time.

You probably saw me mentioning that it would be a good candidate for a scroll. I hadn't peeked at the spellbook at that point.

|| Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

I am confused - I see the spell in Belle's spellbook - it wasn't there before? :D

I am confused too! I absolutely changed nothing and see the same thing. Did we miss it somehow? I checked my notes from when I generated the character and its there too, so it was there from the beginning and not just a spell I learned since then.

|| Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

Thus it would be a good option to scribe in a scroll :D

Indeed. I just can't figure out how it went missing. I could understand if one person missed it but a bunch? Was there a glitch or did the line wrapping/indentation trick us?

Anyway, I'll be adding that one to the list, though I should create the scroll at full caster's level instead of 1st and that will be expensive (62.5 gp at this time).

I'll let the RPing continue for a while.If things haven't progressed too far by Monday, I'll call it morning.

Sounds like an interesting conversation with Karmon. If we go that way, we may need:

Neutralise poison (Spell, potions or wand)
Universal solvent
Remove disease (Spell, potion or wand)
Some way of dealing with zombies.

That's off the top of my head. I'm sure we can think of other useful stuff.

The tough thing is that this place throws the garbage can at us. We end up needing every little niche item out there. Just saying! But definitely those items if we venture into this mouth thing.

Hey is Seir around?

Was trying to bring him into the game, or was there something special planned?

Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

I was trying to bring him into the game...I'll PM cap'n.

Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

the other thing you need to realize is this place is a sandbox of all different levels, and almost all of the encounter areas on the surface lead to Rappan Athuk. Some come in on L1...some L10 (there are 37 levels that are considered "Rappan Athuk". Some are CR2, some are CR 17.

I'll give you a clue....the Mausoleum is the correct CR for you guys, currently, and it is also way above your level...

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

There's also the Ghoul cave; we could go back there and "finish the job". That might even give us a better access to Rappan Athuk, considering it is (presumably) nearer the Mausoleum entrance, and the ghouls are about our level (maybe less, now they've been decimated). They also should have quite a bit of treasure that they've picked up, and all we need is Remove Paralysis. We can approach the Mouth of Doom when we have a bit more equipment.

Whichever way we pick, I should imagine there is always the possibility of taking a wrong turning and facing a CR10 encounter; that's why reconnaissance is importsnt.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

So..are we going to Bard's gate or Endholme or hiving off across the wilderness to Zelkor's Ferry?

FWIW, I think we should stay with the caravan until we reach Endholme. If they have what we want there, all well and good, if not we can consider carrying on until we get to Bard's Gate; we will have company all the way, we'll earn some money and I'm pretty sure we'll end up there anyway.

However, I'm happy to go with the majority decision; I'm up for a jaunt across country if that's what it takes

I agree with Gav. We'll see what happens in Endholme, and if we can get what we need we can get back to killing ourselves in Rappan Athuk.

The caravan is not going through EndHolme. Endholme is in the opposite direction from Bard's Gate. On the other hand it sounds like Bard's Gate is a bigger city. the choices are between:

  • Zelkor's Ferry: Only 4 days away but not likely to have what we need.
  • Endholme: About a week away and probably have what we need
  • Bard's Gate: Two weeks away and likely to have what we need, safe travel there but not safe on the way back unless we get lucky with another caravan.

  • || Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

    Belle, I don't want to sound repetitive but... What do we need so much from Bard's Gate? Is it the Restoration spells?

    On a tangent, is anyone taking notes on the loot we have found thus far - I have the impression we have made close to nothing as far as shares go, and also as far as paying for any Restorations :P

    I know this maybe isn't important mechanics wise, but... In terms of flavor, exploring for two days (how long were we in the cemetery area proper? Not counting back and forth to bury Tessai? Was what? ONE day?), then traveling back to town for a month is so funky.

    However please note I do believe we should guarantee all Ability Drain is healed, but maybe we don't need to go so far? Maybe someone can roll Kn. (Local) and try to remember if there is any mid-to-high ranking cleric in Zelkor's Ferry?

    Bard's Gate appeals to Belle because:
    1) She is down 3 levels. She would much rather face opposition on the way back than on the way there.
    2) She desperately needs a restoration. It would be very annoying to travel to Endholme just to have to turn around and go to Bard's Gate which would then be much farther than two weeks away.
    3) She doesn't care that it adds two weeks to their travel time. Elves live a hellavu long time.

    || Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

    Belle is down 3 levels? I thought it was only Ability drain?

    If you live a helluva long time, then we could go to Zelkor's Ferry first :D

    Anyways I am not going to press this - I'll go with the majority vote.

    Mine is to check Zelkor's Ferry first (or maybe roll the appropriate knowledge), and if it does not have the means to offer us Restoration, then we go to Bard's Gate.

    Anyone has any idea how many cash/loot we have - this point may very well be a moot one :P

    Female NG Elf Arcanist (White Mage) 1 | HP: 8/8 | AC/FF/T: 12/10/12 | CMD:11 | F:/R/W:+1/2/2 +2 vs. encht | Init: +4 | Speed 30ft | Appraise +8, Know (Arc) +8, Ling +8, Perc +7, SpCft +8(10) | Active Conditions: None

    Sorry, 7 con or 15 hp.

    My main liking for Bard's gate is that it is safe. We ran into wraiths on our first day of travel. That makes me nervous when Belle only has 16 HP.

    But I'd rather go to Zelkor's Ferry than waste any more real time discussing it to death. Just make posts in gameplay and Belle will graciously accept the groups decision.

    As for loot, I'm hoping the brass bottle is worth enough to cover the costs.

    Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

    link to the loot tracker is in the Campaign Info.

    Endholme (Large City) is North, ~10 days.
    Zelkor's Ferry (Hamlet) is Northwest, ~4 days
    Bard's Gate (Metropolis) is South, ~14 days

    Caravan is heading south, from Endholme to Bard's Gate.

    I don't know if Cap'n is not receiving notifications again. I don't know why the notifications aren't working for him. FYI, Seir does have a scroll of Restoration.

    || Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

    Yeah Belle, I think I'm done discussing this also.

    My post was already up in Gameplay - will wait for the rest of the gang to chime in.

    Thanks for reminding me of the loot link HoF ;)

    Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

    Belle needs to wait 24 hours from the last time she tried to identify, which was around 9pm last night. Keep your rolls for this evening. But I'm not going to identify them for you until the day has passed.

    Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

    OK, didn't realise they were in different directions.

    So, first - why are we going to civilization? If it's just for restoration, shouldn't we try to persuade Seir to use his scroll? If its for other things, where would we get them? As has been mentioned, we don't have much in the way of loot, I would like to rectify that. We've rested and recovered, we can bury our dead and carry on.

    If we do have to go to civilization, I suspect Zelkor's Ferry will simply be a wasted trip. Bard's gate is nice, but it's too far away and if all we are looking for is a scroll of restoration that Seir already has, a waste of time; that leaves Endholme.

    Female NG Elf Arcanist (White Mage) 1 | HP: 8/8 | AC/FF/T: 12/10/12 | CMD:11 | F:/R/W:+1/2/2 +2 vs. encht | Init: +4 | Speed 30ft | Appraise +8, Know (Arc) +8, Ling +8, Perc +7, SpCft +8(10) | Active Conditions: None

    Is Belle the only one in need of a restoration? If so, Belle's desire for civilization is gone (except for a bath and a chance to write some scrolls) if Seir uses his scroll on her.

    I know it makes no sense character-wise, but we could just go into Rappan Athuk anyway and we know our characters are going to die anyway. Maybe we can just go back in?

    That would be crazy. Look on the bright side. We may level up if we hit some encounters on the way to Endholme.

    Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

    Sadly, Restoration only affects one creature touched, so only 1 person would be affected.

    So it looks as though we need to go visit a fair sized settlement. According to the Game Mastery Guide, 4th level spells can be found in a small town or larger settlement; that says Endholme to me. If we want to buy scrolls or wands of it, we would probably need to go to Bard's gate, but let's face it their probably beyond our means anyway.

    Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

    Alright, so it sounds like Endholm is the destination. Just want to confirm that.
