Irenicus |

Irenicus tries to discern it's true nature.
Know Planes: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
He then fires a toppling magic missle at it, hoping to knock it from it's roost.
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Elathras Narcinal |

Elathras, standing at the top of the stairwell, hears the rest of the team pile into the tower, not feeling right about any of this he calls out again "Why did you attack us bird?" then down to the team "It tried to drop a rock on Virgil, but I don't even know if its sentient or evil, any way to find out?" as he speaks he keeps a keen eye on the bird, looking for a chance to use his Guisarme.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Wdrozgrúk |

Wdrozgrúk will try to shoot the bird with a fire ray:
fire ray: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Does SR apply to the fire ray? It's not a spell, technically. Probably won't hit with that hit roll anyway.
Wdrozgrúk will also try to see if he can make any sense of this unusual bird:
knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Sorry for being a bit tardy; increased medication leaving me a bit groggy much of the day.

D) Sources: Core Rules, Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic after 5th level on DM approval on a case by case basis only
I would appreciate it if people did not take things I am unfamiliar with so that I can best make rulings during the game. Does SR apply I don't know know and this is where it becomes an issue. If it is spell like then SR applies.

brvheart |

You can do the knowledge planes next round. Bird presses the attack
bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 damage: 1d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9
talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Elathras Narcinal |

As the bird attacks Elathras with beak and claw, he dodges the beak but is rendered bloody and unconscious by both claws. He falls off of the stairways taking more damage.
fall: 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage
stabilize: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
so he is at 28 points damage and not stable
edit fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
percentage: 1d100 ⇒ 77
d4: 1d4 ⇒ 3
so stable at -14, permanent injury to head, -3 int.
Elathras lies unconscious, blood pouring from wounds in his face chest and shoulders. What's worse was the sickening thud when his head hit the ground and the long crack running up the back of his head where black blood and grey matter ooze from he base of his skull.

brvheart |

Dolgrin you really need to lay on hands on Elathras, he is 1 point from dying.

Irenicus |

I did know nature during first round, you said know planes next round (which I rolled already and got 25). Do I need to wait another round for some reason?
Irenicus suggests that retreat is the better part of valor.
And what's up with the head injury? If you didnt die why is there a risk for permanent injury?

Dolgrin Brightlaughter |

Dolgrin can't lay on hands, he's a level 1 paladin and lay on hands is a level 2 ability. RIP Friend Elathras.
Punching a bird: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
confirm?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 2d3 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Listen to me bird brain. You do not beak my friends. You do not throw my friends. You do not claw my friends. You do not eat my friends.
Dolgrin lashes out at the bird after seeing Elathras fall, his eyes full of grief.
Note, help us in this dark place, where even the birds turn on us! Elathras is down!

Mitleid |

Looking up Mitleid gently takes two arrows from his quiver, checking fletching and finally nodding. Drawing back the string he finally exhale... and shoots.
Flurry: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Flurry: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 161d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

brvheart |

As the bird has reach Doglrin, it will get an AOO
bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
None of you seem to be doing as much damage as you would think, but are doing some except Mitleid's 1st arrow.

Kaztor Strongforge |

Hmm, somehow I lost my dot on this game. Sorry for the late posting. I'm at work so I dont have time to check the map. I want to get close enough to Ela that I can stabilize him with a channel.
Channel Energy 1d6 ⇒ 5

brvheart |

Not a problem Katzor. You healed Elathras and Dolgrin, but as you do not have selective the bird also.

Kaztor Strongforge |

I understand, but I didn't want ole Ela to die this early! Hopefully, we can beat the bird back down.

Irenicus |

Irenicus explains what it is, and says that it probably would be wise to retreat.
toppling magic missle: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
SR: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

This type of ability came up in the game last night and no SR does not apply, however you missed on that roll.
Afrit's CMD is 20 so she is not tripped. She attacks the paladin:
bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
falling damage Dolgrin: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Dolgrin is down.

brvheart |

Make a fort save Dolgrin DC 12 and if successful, roll a percentile and a d4

Dolgrin Brightlaughter |

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Dolgrin Dies.

Kaztor Strongforge |

Kaz retreats after seeing the bird tear through the paladin. "Get out of here now! And someone shut the door behind us. This is suicide," Kaz calls out as he double moves out of the room.

brvheart |

Gruk shot it with a fire ray and missed last round. I cannot see that he had anything that can help Dolgrin. The bird is almost dead. Your archers need to finish it.

Irenicus |

Did my magic missle penetrate it? If it looks 'almost dead' based on his knowledge Irenicus will tell the others that. Gruk shot the ray after my first magic missle. He didn't shoot anything after my second one (when you said waiting on Gruk and Irenicus). Maybe he rolls lucky on SR.
When able, Irenicus launches another force missle.
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Caster Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Kaztor Strongforge |

Kaztor turns and moves to the two fallen members of the group. "Unfortunately there is nothing I can do for them, other than give them a proper send off to the next world. That bird was a savage. Is everyone else alright? I can still heal a bit for the day."
As the dwarf looks closer at the mage's insistence, he notices that one of them might not be completely dead after all. "Gods, this one might be better off dead, but I think Dwerfater will allow me to treat this one.". As the injured of the group gather around, Kaz channels yet again.
Channel 1d6 ⇒ 4

Kaztor Strongforge |

Ah, I thought I'd seen that both of them were gone. I'll amend my last post.

brvheart |

That was really bad luck dying due to falling damage:( Also, I rechecked the ray is spell-like so is subject to SR. I was right the first time. No, Elathras just has a massive head wound and needs healing badly.

Mitleid |

Looking at his fallen comrade Mitleid bows his head in silent prayer.
"We did pay for this place the ruby prize. But let this place be his final resting place, so that his spirit can watch over it.

brvheart |

On top the debris is Afrit’s cache of shiny gems (5 large but rather common gems worth 50 gp each). You also note something else shiny in the debris that will take 10 minutes of digging to free.
