Kwin, Dobin and Jericho all manage to miss the beast with their attacks! Rose gets into position to help Felix fight off his surprise attacker.
Parfin, however, brings his earthbreaker down on the beasts skull smashing it into red paste!
Out of Combat. XP: 135 each. Where are you returning to in the Mouth of Doom?
Parfin Groud |
Parfin shakes off what remains of the dino's brain matter from his weapon and says, Wherever you heart desires, Ms. Silversting. If its vermin you wish to track down, vermin will be tracked.
By the way, did you happen to hear from that woman, what was her name... Lilia, was it? Was she in town?
She was with us at the stirges but I don't recall seeing her name after that. What did I miss?
Felix Nin |
Holy fire pits of Sarenrae's bosom..! Its teeth where sharp. It tore up my favorite traveling pants, lucky I packed a spare. Felix pulls one of the odd swirling vials from his vest and drinks it, then excuses himself to change clothes.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
GM - Mark Garringer |
Returning to the hallway where you encountered the rodent of unusual size. The western end of the hallway is a closed, wooden door. Carefully approaching and looking down the southern hallway, you see another closed, wooden door another thirty feet down. As the hallway extends south into the darkness.
Cautiously listening at the door after checking for traps Felix is fairly certain from the droppings and gnaw marks that there is some kind of rat nest on the other side of this door.
Kwin Avassar |
"Do we check it out?"
If the others want to check it out, Kwin will stand ready across the hall from the door. He'll put away his bow, and ready his scroll of burning hands (x3). Mentally, he is preparing to gauge the threat beyond the door so he will know whether to cast burning hands from a scroll or color spray from memory.
Parfin Groud |
Yep, let's. Might as well do it now. Parfin looks to the rest of the group, making sure they are ready, before opening the door.
Kwin Avassar |
Jericho moves toward the back of the party, not wanting to get caught in Kwin's fire or a rat swarm. "Not equipped to deal with swarms."
Kwin smiles back at Jericho. "If it is just a couple of big ones, I'll get out of your way quickly enough."
GM - Mark Garringer |
Expecting the worst, Felix opens the door knowing his friends stand ready!
Inside the large room is a disgusting mass of material used for nesting, several bags of grain and three giant rats!

Rose Silversting |
Leaving her alchemist's fire on the ground, Rose moves forward, drawing her whip, and readies an action to aid Dobin! But she leaves herself open to an attack from one of the rats. I think the movement draws an AOO.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 4 = 14. Dobin gets a +4 on his attack.
Parfin Groud |
Parfin will go into a rage and attack the rat to his northwest! Round 1 of 8 of Rage, AC 16, HP 22/29
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10
I thought I had said something about needing healing after the dino fight but I do not see it. I may have thought the 7 points that Felix got for the potion was for me, I don't know. Keep it in mind guys, I may need healing sooner than I think.
Kwin Avassar |
Kwin will cast defensively, unleashing a cone of brilliant colors at the three rats before him.
Concentration 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20. Success!
The cone should hit all three rats, but miss Felix. It should also hit the row of squares behind the pair of rats if anything is lurking there.
If that knocks out or otherwise disables the rat right in front of him, Kwin will move back four squares east to make room for Jericho. Otherwise, he'll ready his sword.
GM - Mark Garringer |
Parfin handily smashes one of the rodents of unusual size to death!
Rose cracks her whip at the approaching rats, funneling them right toward the waiting Dobin's sword!
Jericho readies himself as his companions spring into action!
Felix lets out a little shriek as he tries to stab one of the rats bitting him, but can't seem to work out the geometry to make it work.
As the rat in front of him is crushed out of life Kwin raises his hands, spreading his fingers wide as a rainbow burst shoots forth through the doorway and into the room and the rats beyond!
Rat #2 Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Parfin moves forward, striking at the creature that just lashed out at Rose! Oh no you don't! You will not harm her!
Raging, 2 of 8: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 = 22 for Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14

Kwin - sure thing.
The angry half-orc smashes another rat into red paste!
Kwin Avassar |

He calls out to his allies "I'll finish these two before they wake."
This next round, Kwin will perform a full round action to coupe de grace one of the giant rats.

Jericho, Parfin, Kwin and Felix are up!
GM - Mark Garringer |
Rat #3 Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 *success*
Oh, I just realized we are doing it backward. It takes the damage first and if it's still alive then you make Fort save. So 12 damage is more than enough to kill it outright.
*squeek*
Parfin Groud |
[b]Round 3 - 3 of 8 rounds of Rage expended[b]
Parfin steps over the corpse of the last rat he had dispatched and attempts to create another!

Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Swearing, he mutters, "Those big mosquitoes must have taken more out of me than I though!
Wow..have not rolled over a 10 this entire combat....the dice hate me!
GM - Mark Garringer |
The rat nips at the embarrassed warrior, but also misses!
Rat #4 bite vs. Dobin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 *miss*
The rest of the party is up!
Kwin Avassar |
Round 4.
Having finished off the rats that succumbed to his spell, Kwin steps in behind his allies and tries to fire a magical ray at the remaining rat, hoping the cold will slow it enough for his allies to strike it.
Ray of Frost
To hit 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 10
Damage 1d3 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Alas, the clever rat proves to be too elusive!
Parfin Groud |
This ends now!
Rage! Round 4 of 8: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 for Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11
Well, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. If it does Parfin will end his raging.
Parfin Groud |
