Moved you on the map Dekion!
______
The rest of the Pathfinders leap into the fray, Leepo leading off the assault with an expertly-placed bomb throw that explodes and sends shreds of cloth flying in all directions! Marcus follows it up with a powerful shot from his longbow, adding another hole to the banner's growing collection! Deciding that he prefers a more direct approach, Dekion advances on the Red Banner with sword in-hand...
AoO vs. Dekion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
...and the banner tries to strike as he approaches, but misses the warrior by a mile! Now within range, Dekion decides to return the favor and slashes viciously at the banner - cutting it down for good!
Meanwhile, Katswiri cautiously advances into the next room - ready with her mace should the other banner approach. Now that she can get a slightly better look at them, she knows that while they have no particular resistances they do have the ability to grab their targets and bind them tightly if they manage to land a blow. Grab + Constrict.

Arbiscar observes Katswiri positioning and he moves with the same care, forming a line of defense. He makes his stand in the middle of the room while holding his silver earthbreaker over his head "Approach and enjoy little raggy monkey"

Arbiscar steps forward, forming a line of defense with Katswiri. He readies his earthbreaker as the Blue Banner comes flopping and flapping in his direction. Unfortunately, the unruly piece of cloth doesn't quite come close enough for Arbiscar to be able to strike at it! Instead, it stops just short and lunges forward, attempting to smack the dwarf...

After taking a few moments to mend what wounds you have and catch your collective breath, you turn your attention to another large, open area just off of the Shining Armory. Long shadows cast by ruined displays and broken furniture litter the floor. A humanoid-shaped figure made of shattered clockwork lies slumped over a bench. Above, an elaborately painted sign reads "Crusader’s Chronicles."
As you make your way into this area you have no trouble spotting the three guard dogs who had most likely heard your skirmish with the banners and were in the process of trotting over to investigate the disturbance. When they spot you, their hackles raise and you hear a low growling sound, the sort that precedes imminent attack!

Dekion takes a brief moment to consider the situation instead of simply charging in blindly and realizes that given what they're dealing with, waiting for the dogs to approach them would be the most sensible plan. He steps forward just a bit to allow his companions behind him room to maneuver, readying his sword to strike at the first dog to approach.
Meanwhile, Katswiri and Leepo both realize that these are simple guard dogs albeit ones that appear to be exemplary specimens for their species. Leepo knows that they have no particular weaknesses but Katswiri does remember that much like their wild cousin, the wolf, these dogs will likely attempt to snap at the legs of their prey in an attempt to pull them off their feet.
Loathe to hurt the dogs who are basically just innocent animals trained to perform a task, Arbiscar attempts to try and calm them by playing at being on their side. Unfortunately, it's not necessarily an easy thing to command or cajole someone else's trained critters and the dogs don't seem to pay the dwarf's words any heed.

"I think they thought we were burglars, Arbiscar. It was their training to try and attack us." Katswiri says sadly as she wipes the blood off her mace. "I would like to try to fix the Rune Swarms, but I do not know if our talents would be better served dealing with the clockwork. If you hold a minute, I will read the fates and determine our best course of action."
Katswiri enters a brief meditative trance, viewing shadows of the possible futures yet to come.
Katswiri uses her Gift of Prophecy revelation, to cast an Augury with a 90% chance of a meaningful reply. The course of action considered: Is going to deal with the runes in the garden before dealing with the clockwork a weal, woe, or both?

GM Ladile |

In your mind's eye, you see one possible future where the protective wards shielding the museum crackle and then explode, shaking the museum to its core. Throughout the building the guard creatures set to protect it seem to grow weaker and more docile as the wards fade away.
You hear one word - weal.

![]() |

After a minute, Katswiri's eyes snap open, a look of worry on her face. "Oh dear. We should go to deal with the runes. They may not be entirely stable, and...it is hard to tell, but I believe there may be explosive consequences if they are not dealt with. Let's see if we can handle them quickly, and have time to assist with the clockwork as well."

While Katswiri takes a moment to consult the cosmos about a proper course of action, Arbiscar quickly begins doing what he can for the guard dogs. Though one of them very nearly succumbs to its wounds before he can bind them, he eventually manages to at least stabilize their condition. They'll likely require further care and rest (or healing magic) to recover fully but for the time being, they're no longer in danger of dying.

Runes it is! And don't forget, strategic advancing in the opposite direction is an option if you feel that an encounter might be too challenging :)
______
With the more magically-inclined in the group feeling a little more confident than they were earlier, the group makes their way outside. Along the way Arbiscar attempts to look for a secret room he remembers from a previous museum escapade; though he finds what he seeks he and the others quickly realize that there's neither friend nor foe located within and decide to leave it for the time being. Once outside they make their way around to the back of the museum where a lovely garden boasting carefully-maintained shrubberies and even a fountain can be found. A soft whirring that sounds like the low drone of a hive of bees can be heard and as you reach the garden's entrance you can see that thousands of glowing glyphs form a protective shell around the outside of the museum, casting a sparkling aura of light that bounces off the fountain’s waters.
You realize that despite the dangers, disabling the glyphs might aid in helping to retake the museum as well as subdue or weaken the remaining guardian creatures inside.

Now aware of the party's presence, the swarm undulates around to face Arbiscar and Scritch, still casting their strange glow on the water of the fountain.
Esh Perc.: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Leepo Perc.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Scritch Perc.: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Katswiri Perc.: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Dekion Perc.: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Arbiscar Perc.: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Marcus Perc.: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
The runes just moved something to the grass in front of Arbiscar and Scritch!
The runes spin and all of you realize that they're casting a spell!
They're casting Alarm.
And then, the grass in front of Arbiscar and Scritch erupts into fire, a cone of flame washing over them both!
Merciful Burning Hands Trap: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) = 7
DC 16 Reflex save for half damage.
Strangely, while the flames wash over the two, they are non-lethal. Though you can feel the pain lance up your bodies, your skin and clothes are not burnt.

Mobile posting so map manipulation is a pain; the fire came from the square immediately north of Arbiscar.

Seeing that he is unable to figure out the runes in a more non-violent method, Marcus quickly steps back drawing his bow and firing. "Sorry, magic stuff isn't my area of expertise. I thought I had it for a moment."
longbow + PBS + FS +DA: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 0 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 1 + 0 - 1 = 18 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 + 2 = 14
5' step, move to draw, standard shot. I'll find out quickly if it has reach for an AoO

From the back and unable to hear the sounds of combat, it takes Katswiri a moment to realize that the group is under attack. She hurries forward until she can get a clear view of the swarm of runes just in time to see Marcus shoot at them. "Wait, its alive! We don't know how this works, it could do almost anything if it is damaged in the wrong way!"
Double move...curse my heavy armor! Some day, Mithral Breastplate, someday!

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
A high-pitched buzz pervades the museum, rising in frequency to the point of being inaudible. A moment later, a rolling boom echoes through the museum like thunder, and the glowing wards around the museum begin to fade.
@Table GMs: The “Failing Wards” condition on page 9 is now in effect.

As Katswiri trundles forward as quickly as she can, silently cursing her heavy armor, Marcus decides to see if he can do some damage with his arrows. He takes a step back and fires a shot into the swirling mass! Some of the runes appear to shatter as the arrow passes through them but the shot doesn't seem to be as effective as Marcus had hoped. As you watch, the shattered pieces quiver and begin to move towards each other...

Dekion watches as Marcus shoots an arrow. He shrugs and moves forward to see how many times he can hit with his sword. "Until you scholarly types come up with a plan this is how I'm going to handle things."
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Seeing that Marcus' shot was at least somewhat effective, Dekion wades into the fray as well and strikes at the runes with his sword! Although it too doesn't seem to be as effective as he'd like, the sword still manages to shred a few more of the individual runes.
