Fury's Toll | MotD

Arturo violently drops the poor centipede that never did anything to harm anyone. It dies, not knowing how it offended.

Roudi is up, then the remaining centipede.

The young man accepts the pack from Arturo stoically, effortlessly slipping it over his shoulder as he lets the man get out ahead before following. His brow furrows as he sees Mr. Hairylip rush forward into the room, an amused expression on his face, before he sees the chitinous creature the man just skewered.

Arturo the Exterminator laughs heartily at the poor innocent centipede's misfortune. He sprays ichor into the corner of the room as he gives his blade a victory swish.

Yeah, like the centipede wasn't going to assume we wanted in on its porky dinner and attack us with some kind of freaky-deaky poison.

Jaender, having been quiet since the goblin moot, seems lost in his own thoughts. He offers help where necessary. At the first sign of a skirmish, he makes his way to assist his able companions.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human (Varisian) Level 6, #-4

I don't mean to pre-empt GM Silbeg, but assuming things proceed as they usually do and it's Roudi and Arturo up next... for my next turn I've traced out Arturo's movement to make sure I could flank with Strong Brute (just made it in 30ft of movement). His starting position was on the X.

Arturo, flush from his victory against the first centipede, moves around to position opposite the strong brute. He does a flourish, steps back and raises his buckler, ready for combat. The centipede pays him no heed - concentrating as it is on the other opponents who have surrounded it. Somewhat insulted, Arturo picks an opening in the centipede's chitinous hide and slices for it with his scimitar.

Arturo scimitar, flanking, sneak attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17
Scimitar damage, flanking, sneak attack: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (6) = 13

If my assumptions above were wrong, please just ignore this action! I'll be posting a little sporadically today, so I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to post my action while I could.

With Arturo providing a distraction, the strong brute swings his scythe down in a brutal arc, seeking to make an end to the chitinous menace (ya know, assuming Arturo hasn't already done just that).

Thoroughly lost in his own thoughts, Jaender barely recognizes what is going on, so runs forward into the room to get a better look. As was often the case in the crypt of the everflame, he sees his able companions dealing ever so effectively with the situation, and his fire breathing, spell casting appears to be unnecessary at this moment. He puts his hands on his hips with a satisfied smirk as he watches Arturo, Strong Brute, Vox and Einhardt surround the vermin.

I'd feel sorry for it, but it was just going to try to eat us anyways. Besides, who likes bugs?

Jaender will be the forward scout, who's job is to only forward scout, then bring back reports to Arturo and the group. Other than that, he will hang in the back of the pack, ready to burp fire from a distance :)

Jaender nods at the expected efficiency of the group. "Well Mr. Arturo, it is no surprise, but it seems you fit in quite well here. My companions are nothing if not brutally efficient. I indeed am an excellent scout, but not much for anything else involving the point man. I will look ahead and bring back word of what is in front of us. I've just rearranged everyone. Arturo and Jaender scouting ahead for now, when it comes to marching, we'll fill in the spot behind Ophiuchus (Arturo) and in front of Einhardt (Jaender) when / as we return back to the party. So, if I'm right, we've just done a resistance chain, Arturo and Jaender are scouting ahead stealthily and they'll be ready to jump back to the party as needed.

Eight statues of demonic creatures anchored to great square columns guard an octagonal open space in the center of this large hall. Various bits of scaffolding and debris are piled up next to the columns, which support a large gallery fifteen feet above the room’s floor. Open stone archways lead to the southeast and the north from the lower floor, and a large stone door stands at the south corner of the chamber.

Arturo surveys the situation as his companions move into position.

I'll enumerate the questions I have from Arturo's "survey" to make them easier to answer:

1. Is there any obvious way up to the top level?
2. Do the stairs at the southeast lead upwards ?
3. Could an acrobatic leap / climbing effort get us up there?
4. Can we get total cover if we stand beneath the goblins?
5. Is that a railing on the top level that we could get cover from if we do get up top?
6. If that is a railing, do they get cover from our ranged attacks from below?

survey answers:

1. There are statues and scaffolding all over the place that you could climb. It all looks to be a bit rickety, as if goblins had made it. It us fifteen feet to the top.
2. They lead down.
3. See #1
4. Yes, at least until they move.
5 & 6. No. It has spindles, which the goblins are firing through. Does not grant them cover.

"Don't kill them all yet, you strong brute!" cries Arturo, "I'd like a go at one of them. It's been an age since I've fought one of these critters."

Arturo makes ready to attack the goblin standing in front of Ophiuchus, swishing his scimitar back and forth dramatically.

Nice shooting, Tex!

The young man looks at Arturo with a confused expression. It seemed as though the man was enjoying all this fighting.

Fury's Toll | MotD

Sven rushes up, slashing open the belly of Chuffy.
Mogurch fires his arrow at the closest target (which happens to be Vox).
bow at Vox: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 but Vox's relationship with his wolf has gained him sympathy with the goblin.

Roudi moves up, and fires at Rita. Even though he was outside of his shortest range band (he's at about 60', so firing at -2 to hit, vs normal AC), his shot is true, and Rita's head explodes, as the bullet hits right between the eyes.

Jaender, Arturo, and Poochie are up.

Arturo shoulders past the confused strong brute, a grin on his lips (one of them hairy).

Hit or miss...

"You fight bravely, little greenskins," Arturo laughs as he swipes down with his scimitar, "But you're not going to be able to defeat us. Give us the location of the idol and the Sword of Zog, and we shall relent."

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

Arturo slashes the belly open on Mouthy, who falls to the ground, clutching his belly.

The goblins look at Arturo with blank but vicious looks. Sewer yells out, "Ko ellē ilgi apakšstilbiem teikt? Nav svarīgi ... nogalināt tos visus!"

goblin:
What the hell did the longshanks say? Does not matter... kill them all!

"Fie to you then!" says Arturo, quickly wiping the blood off his blade on Mouthy's tunic, "Not one of you little snots speaks common, eh? Well, it's not going to end well for you."

"Why did the strong man that sings and Mr. Harilip kill the goblin that I wanted to kill? Now there is just than one goblin by the pretty wolf, and those up there. Guess I will have to climb up and kill them. Little man that speaks many languages, catch me when I fall."

Merian being a hero is difficult work. Now I am going to have to climb in this armor. I will never make it. My love help me to fall lightly.

Climb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0

Attempting to grab a scaffolding, the nagaji grabs the first rung to pull himself up. Once he places his foot, and lifts off, things immediately go bad. The wood breaks in two, he loses his grip on one of the upper portions, while the other snaps. The bewildered Oracle falls directly backward landing like a turtle on its back shell.

"I fell."

The brute's confused look deepens at the nagaji's statement. He had only been trying to expedite the process of defeating their enemies, and he had hoped to finish the goblin before it could retaliate. This one and Mr. Hairylip seemed to invite danger at every step.

His confused look morphs into a stifled laugh as the oracle promptly falls while trying to climb to get to the goblin archers.
