Also, I have no issues with starting later, it'll give me some time to gather feedback and ask a couple questions

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Welcome to the table, Boris! Well, everyone has checked in. Waiting for Brob's stuff and we'll be set to go come Thursday. It'll be good to get some admin out of the way, so yeah, if you have questions ask away!

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

So, we're underway! This is a mixture of space filler and a small snippet of the beginning of the scenario. As I noted in the gameplay thread, you can ignore any and all of this until Thursday.

Just as a gentle reminder, we still need a chronicle info summary from Brobdingnagian.

Also, I have collated all of your initiative checks. I will be rolling these for you when and as combat begins. Please look over your roll and let me know if I've got your bonus right. Also let me know if there are any situational modifiers I should be aware of (eg. "may always act in the surprise round", "+2 if my familiar is near", etc).

Initiative rolls:

Boris initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Brob initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Jillia initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Markus initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Rin initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

I had a couple minor tweaks I need to update on my character summary, like realizing that I hadn't actually taken a Perform skill and managing to convert myself to Liberty's Edge while reading up on Halflings in Golarion.

Liberty's Edge

Male CG Halfling (“Varisian”) Bard 1 | HP: 8/8| AC: 18 (15 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: -1, CMD: 13 | F: +1, R: +7, W: +1 (+2 vs fear) | Init: +6 | Perc: +4, SM: -2 | Speed 30ft | Bardic Performance: 5/10 | Spells: 1st 1/2| Active conditions: None.

Oh, if I still have my reroll by the end of the session, I might reroll my Perform check. Will see when that happens, but just putting a reminder :)

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

No perform skill?!? Damn, dude! That's freaking classic. Don't forget about versatile performance either (unless you have an archetype that nukes it).

That's fine on the reroll for the end of the session. I'll try to remember to not write in your day job gold until then.

GM Damo the Fourth wrote:

Yeah, I'd been waffling between perform Oratory and Sing (went with Oratory because there's an innuendo that makes me chuckle) and double checking my skills I realized I hadn't actually put a rank in one. Versatile Performance is 2nd level, though.

Also, regarding my horrific Knowledge checks: the moment you realize that you know more about a fictional place than the actual inhabitants of a fictional place would.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

It is a worry when you know more about the fictional world than the character's do. Feel free to use player knowledge about the Isle of Kortos, though. Knowing about that is more for conversation and actually doesn't form part of the scenario. Knowing about the Kortos Mountains is part of the scenario, so you need the knowledge checks.

... but it goes to prove yet again that failure can be more fun than success. I love the way you kinda sorta covered it up. Got a great visual of Brob sitting in class, completely distracted by a cute blond <race unspecified>!

Also, had totally forgotten about versatile performance being level 2. Goes to show how long it's been since I've run for or played a 1st level bard!

I don't know that he's that petty. Usually.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Ever played Serpent's Rise? Oh, he's that petty! ;-)

I guess then, though, you're playing the Aspis Consortium... and when I played, Aram Zey was played at night time by Jack Brown at GenCon after a full day's running sessions, and who had had 3 consecutive nights on less than 2 hours' sleep per night with a large quantity of alcohol probably still in his body...

Heh, in any case, you needed to interrupt Kreighton Shaine. He really does go on. Not droning, he's genuinely excited and excitable, but Boris did the right thing. If no-one else saves him, I'm sure Janira will.

Spoilers! :D

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Yeah, I almost got out my Absalom book and putting in passages from that... but this is all just a bit of pre-game fluff anyway. I'll move on to the second set of questions / knowledge rolls tomorrow. Have a good night everyone (timezone willing) and I'm itching to get properly stuck in to this. Only 2 more days to go.

Lantern Lodge

Male Human (American) Sensei 2

Neat bit of trivia about the tavern name.

(I haven't played or read Wounded Wisp yet. Somehow, I've managed to miss it each time it came around my area).

Wounded Wisp vs Pig's Paunch is one of those things that I kind of hand wave... in my head canon they're two distinct taverns that contributed to the forming of the Pathfinder Society.

Of course, I'd also ran The Confirmation at least half a dozen times before Wounded Wisp came out and have the introduction practically memorized.

Minor Campaign Plot Spoiler:
Not sure if I'm going to change my intro regarding the Masters if they're officially updated. I'm too used to "Master Farabellus, Master Zey, and I..."

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

I'd only played and ran the Confirmation once before today, so I didn't have any particular fond memories of the Pig's Paunch. Your interpretation is along the same lines as how Thurstan Hillman (author of the Wounded Wisp) fit it in to his mental image also.

I just like having fun with inconsistencies. ;-)

In reply to the campaign spoiler:
Not sure why Mastey Zey is still in your intro... maybe you know more than I do.

Metaplot spoiler:
I've already memorized the line that includes the Masters, complete with appropriate Kreighton Shaine hand motions.

I'll probably keep it as is as an anachronism, like various deceased or rogue VCs giving out missions. Having a Living Campaign can be a challenge sometimes ;)

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Alright! We're under way. I'm excited.

So, ask questions when you like, but I'll probably move things along regardless this afternoon.

Also, please note that I have a poker night on tonight. I won't be posting this evening or as early tomorrow morning. Shouldn't stop you guys from posting, though!

As a note, if I ever move things along too quickly for you and you find yourself thinking "Man, I wish I'd said or done... blah" please feel free to flashback. If you've been posting daily and I've still skipped past an opportunity for you to respond, I'm happy to retcon actions / preparations / etc, in addition to any roleplaying that may have happened (I'm always happy to flashback to some past RP).

Just don't forget to also post in the present!

eg.

Back in the tavern...

"Janira, could you please have a look at my eye," says GM Damo, holding his eyelids open, "I think I've got a sprite stuck in it..."

GM Damo goes to the supply store and buys some holy water.

Back in the present

GM Damo is lucky he got his depth perception sorted out when Janira expertly removed the sprite. He pulls out his flask of holy water and splashes the ghost with it.

Splashed holy water, ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

GM Damo wishes he'd picked up some hand-eye coordination to go with his depth perception.

I went ahead and purchased the HeroLab package for my cavalier order- -I'll have that updated shortly. Had to rearrange a few items to make encumberance (small greatclubs are heavy!)

Character sheet will be updated shortly (nothing really important has changed save for getting obsidian daggers instead of cold iron).

Perfect. thank you Jillia. Also, in general, there's no need to post "ooc" in discussion - that's what this entire thread is for!

On the subject of "things going on," I'll be GMing at Nuke Con pretty much all weekend. It won't stop me from making a post or two each day, but I won't be mindlessly hitting F5 every ten or twenty seconds. Once between each slot, probably.

I'm going to be spoiling anything beyond 4-ish lines, personally, to make things easier to scroll through. Yours was retty good, though.

As for my own wall of text, sadly the forums ate my nice formatting. I've been working on adapting the "Pict Song" since I saw that we were having a half-halfling group. It ended up being a bit darker than I'd originally intended, but if you read the lore on Halflings in Golarion, slavery is kind of a big deal. Almost as if when developing the lore, the writers thought "How can we make our halflings unique? Make them slaves!" Kinda converted me to Liberty's Edge (though waffling between LE or Sovereign Court to try to make a more permanent change than individually freeing slaves.)

Also need to see if I can convince GM Damo into counting that as a performance condemning slavery in a place where it's legal for the purpose of the faction goal ;)

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

I'm okay with lots of text in a post, provided it's all formatted nicely and has a decent amount of nice content to read. Scrolling's not an issue. The exception, really, is during combat. You really want to avoid muddying the waters there.

Otherwise, absolutely fine! Loved the post.

Brob, sucks about the formatting dude! These forums have me pulling my hair out at times with stuff like that (though I can't recall losing formatting before - usually, it's the whole post).

Spoilering the songs, by the way, was appropriate, but not necessary (from my point of view).

Man, looking back at my post last night, that's some definite con-fatigue showing. I should be back to normal after a good night's rest and a real breakfast.

Want me to still write up a 'campfire story'?

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Entirely up to you about the campfire story. Mostly it was a way to do a final bit of RP before we got into the real crunch - and to give you something to do while I cleaned up the house last night.

I think next round I'll delay until Janira starts her Inspire Courage, though it pains me to waste a 20 like that. Sadly my 1d4 isn't going to contribute much, heh. Go go first level!

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

No waste. The ordering of initiative is grouped... so the wolves act after your grouping no matter what. :-) So, if you are one of the names in "up next" just go when you can!

I forgot that you only came in at the very end of the Aspis dummy fight! We covered all of this then. Let me know if you need more info.

I tried figuring out what was going on in the combat, but decided that I could learn as I went afterwards. There was a lot going on ;).

I'm sure that some of the really tactical discussions can get complicated in this format. It looks like Varus and Boris could possibly get a decent flank but not sure how to point that out... how much side conversation like that is preferred?

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Have as much conversation as you like. My preference is for you to do it in character where it makes sense for you to do so, and for you to post enough info that there's no going back and forth, slowing down combat.

Where you want to hold off on your action (either because of a ready or an assumption) spoiler that action along with the condition that will trigger it. That way, I can just open the spoiler when that happens and narrate it. No slowdown! ;-)

So, the text indicated that Boris closed to melee with the white wolf, which is not in melee with anyone, but then he said he was helping Julia and that's what it shows on the tactical map. Clarify?

Also as we approach melee with the white wolf, I'd like to remind that Rin has natural attacks and thus threatens, even with a ranged weapon in hand.

I'm kinda take it or leave it on fighting the Minotaur.

Rin however can't understand anything of what was ordered, so she's going to try and support Janira until either she decides to flee herself or it becomes clear that the group is letting Janira leave.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Cool. The vote is currently tied! Since we could end up with a 3-way tie, the next person to weigh in gets the deciding vote. Those who voted against can still, of course, flee to the caverns... I'll just either move it along or roll initiative based on the next poster's decision.

Rin, by the way, Janira is currently in the process of running away. That isn't to say you should change anything, just that she's about to distract the minotaur and bolt.

Oh, and also by the way (!), I think you now see why I chose this avatar for the scenario (if you didn't know already). I tend to change my GM avatar as appropriate for whatever game I'm running.
