Eh, Finnish doesn't sound much like Norwegian or Swedish though, they are in different language family trees xD

Anyway, yeah, forgot whole runic language thing .-. Fictional languages are confusing

Though I guess using just romanized languages(unless speaker is using language that is really incomprehensible) might be easier, Gorum would be written in cyrillic something like Горум(Man its been so long time since I tried studying Russian :'( Had to check wikipedia for letters)) so it being written in latin alphabet in middle of cyrillic strikes out to me and checking alphabet to convert name into alphabet is slower than google translation

Cain, I'm not sure your equipment is right either. PFS characters get 150gp to buy their equipment from at 1st level, but your cold iron masterwork longsword is 330gp.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Thank you to everyone (especially Lissa for helping Cain (and each other) out with the rules! It's great to see that I can 'miss' a night (things got busy) and come back to find that things have been resolved.

@Cain: Markus is correct about the equipment. Please have a read (or a reread) of the Guide to Play, specifically the section on character creation (p7-10). The chapter on "Pathfinder Society Basics"(p4-6) is also worth a second read. Most of the rest of it, we can fill you in on as you go.

Also, if you used PCGen, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some way to check "pathfinder society organized play character" or similar somewhere so that it can validate it for you. I know it supports PFS, but I'm not sure if it's just the source material or if it can validate the PFS rules for you like HeroLab can.

@Everyone: Please note that, in PFS, you must own all of the source material you use for your characters. Sometimes that rule can get lost in the rest of it, so I thought it was worth calling out explicitly. Also, specific for PbP, since you don't actually have to bring your books to the game (like you do in regular PFS), if I ask for proof that you have the source material, I will accept:

Physical books:

  • A photo of you holding the book.
  • A scanned copy of the front cover with a hand written note in front of it saying "Damo Rocks" .
  • A receipt with your name on it.

Digital copies:

  • A single page from the book that clearly shows which book it is, with your watermark on it (screen grab or other extraction).
  • A receipt with your name on it.
  • A screen grab of the "My Downloads" page from paizo.com.

I am open to other forms of proof. You do not need to provide me with any of the above unless I ask for it. I will only ask for it if you are accepted into the game (I don't have time to hassle 15+ people about the finer details of their source material), and most likely only when you try to use... you know the type of thing... that strange feat from Kobolds of Golarion that allows you to cast everything at +1 caster level, for example.

So what you're saying is... i really should buy Kobolds of Golarion! Ha ha! FYI - I'm assuming this feat doesn't actually exist and will not rush out to buy this book... unless someone tells me otherwise ;)

Anywho...

I think your personal 'Proof of ownership' rules seem pretty fair and open (i especially like the "Damo Rocks" bit). As far as i'm aware my character is 100% legal and I own all the materials I'm using.

In a crazy case where I think I own a source but actually only read a friend's PDF copy on his iPad (which i've actually done by the way - oops!) I'll correct the character or purchase a PDF ASAP.

I know most players do their best to play within the rules, but sometimes honest accidents can happen :)

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

That feat doesn't do what I said, but it was based off a real feat:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/ancient-draconic

I assume all rules infractions are honest accidents until a player continually does it. I've seen GMs actually allow the purchase of source material at the table in order to acquire gear at the beginning of the game (or to retrain a feat at the end of it). I try to be at least as flexible as those awesome dudes.

On the plus side, right now is a perfect time to take advantage of the Paizo September PDF Sale

That's a shame, Cain. Part of the reason I just pulled out the last "task" was to help folks like yourself get up-to-speed on the plot so far. That you were struggling reminded me that this was potentially also an intro to PFS as well as PbP, and the "Story So Far..." PDF is a very nice, condensed way to get brought up to speed.

I hope you reconsider, but if not, all the best with your roleplaying! Maybe I will see you being recruited for another PbP game in the not too distant future.

@Jillia: You may be right. I've been playing PFS in mostly forwards and reverse order from the end of season 5 and I haven't made it to very much before season 3 (or even much of season 4) yet, so I guess I have a different perspective on things. I think John Compton or Mike Brock intimated in a post somewhere that indicated he might make an appearance in season 7 (it may have been when they announced they wouldn't be following the APs anymore). Fingers crossed!

It all depends on when you first interact with him, too. I started in early Season 4 (Blackros Matrimony was a big deal at the time. Now, there's only about 10 or so scenarios that I haven't seen from one side of the screen or another). A lot of the people who had been playing when I started in my area hate the guy. And you're correct that the way the GM presents him is super dependent on whether he comes across as genuine or slimy.

Rivalry's End:
Our table was ready to say, "alright, here's what you want" and let him leave. Why wouldn't we? Hell, if he asked, we'd have escorted him out of the city. Instead, we have a fight where he twirls his moustache Boris Badenov style and laughs into the distance?

All in all, I hope he comes back, too.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

@Lissa: I will announce that on Monday. There is a pipeline. It is being used. I'd say we're 90-95% likely to have a second table.

@Jillia:
Yeah, it all assumes that your loyalty to the Pathfinders is greater than to Torch. For the guys I ran it for, it was the case but it would suck if you were a big Shadow Lodge fan! I've only run this one (never played it).

It would suck if you were a big Shadow Lodge fan. And since it was billed as "the conclusion to your faction and a fitting send-off," it really missed its mark. And to make things worse, to get the good thing, you had to sell out the guy you've been helping to the people you've been fighting against. No sense.

It also didn't help that the other faction that closed at that time had the AWESOME Way of the Kirin finale. It was so night-and-day.

But I suppose at this time, I should stop Torch/Shadow Lodge ranting before I get on a roll, haha. No one should be subjected to that.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

@Jillia:
Yeah, I can see how that would have been a total suck-ass thing to see. Maybe more disappointing than the disappearance of the Sczarni faction as it was rolled up into the Exchange / Qadira as only a side quest in a special. "You Sczarni guys all wanted to play merchants, right?"

My Shadow Lodge character went to the Sczarni after the SL ceased to be a faction. So he got two bad endings.

I suppose nothing is stopping me from just buying a horse, but the archetype I have trades away the mount entirely. (Also, one of retired characters is a Gnome Cavalier on Turtle-back that did the charging lance thing. Want to have something a little different with Jillia).

And besides, I can have a greatclub with a story now. "That Greatclub? It was part of a training dummy that nearly killed me."

Ah, didn't realize about the archetype. No problems. There are lots of reach weapons out there. Lucerne hammers tend to give you good utility when made out of silver (great damage, two-handed, silvered, reach, piercing & bludgeoning.... 6 ticks! Oh, and it also allows you to brace, not that anyone ever uses that).

... but I love the greatclub with a backstory.

---------TABLES ANNOUNCED!--------

Please stop posting in the gameplay thread until I kick things off again (which I will do on Thursday morning - October 1st). Please only post in this discussion thread if you are on Table 1 and have already read the recruitment thread.

For now, please go to the recruiting thread if you haven't done so already and confirm that you are still happy to play. Any discussion until the game starts can happen on the recruiting or discussion thread.

---------END ANNOUNCEMENT--------

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Hey there table 1! Looks like we've already got "check ins" from:

- Jillia Tennille (Jayson MF Kip)
- Rin Whistledown (Juniperkitsu)
- Varus Teutoburg (Jocard the Fist)

Waiting for:

- Markus Notine (golfdeltafoxtrot)
- Boris "Love" Derevnya Jarlson (Upaynao)
- Brobdingnagian (Wolfspirit)

The planned start date is Thursday 1st, however, if everyone gets checked in early and doesn't mind starting before then, we can get started as early as tonight if you like!

When you read this, please reply with the following information as it will appear on your chronicle sheet:

Player Name:
Character Name:
PFS # & Character #:
Faction:
Chronicle #:
Slow/Normal advancement:
Starting XP:
Starting Fame:
Starting Prestige:
Starting Gold:
Day Job Check:

Tips:

Just hit "reply" to this post, then you can delete everything except the above and just fill it out from there. Be sure to also delete the "quote" tags from the top and bottom.

Roll your day job check like this:

Day job: Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

If you don't have a day job, just say "N/A".

Let me know if you need any help filling out the above!

Dotting to say I'm excited for the group and looking forward to playing.

Also, I'm apparently a psychic. In honor of that, I'll have to complete my rendition of the Halfling Song (a variation of the Pict Song.)

(I'll post my chronicle sheet stuff tonight)

Jillia works as a demo musician for the brass instruments that her family forges. It's very boring.

1st Ed D&D Campaign Manifesto

Hey Markus, no problems at all waiting until Thursday. It's when I said we'd start on the recruitment post, so start we shall then. I may make a few "warm up" posts in gameplay just to maintain interest for the others and to keep them checking in every day, but feel free to tune out until Thursday,

Just waiting for Boris to check in, 3 more chronicle info posts and we'll be all set!

Can't wait to get team "half-halfling" going!
