Grabbing a porter, Finarin asks him politely to unpack the platforms the Baron intended for him. "You see this is new mail ... from my homeland of Kyonin. On our last adventure I spent most of the time ... cleaning and burnishing it. Thanks ever so ... much."
"Baron you say at night this tiger will return to ... finish it's prey. Do you have any ideas on how to ... light the area? Is there a direction that it will most probably return ... from?"
What a perfect time for a message spell and a redshirt.
How many machans are there and who is going in which one? I don't want to get stuck in there like on the Throaty.
"Too bad we don't have a bottle of the ... Chelish red. That might have come in ... handy here to attract the tiger."

Amaranti sits on one of the huting platforms, gazing down on the preparations. "Bah, lance no good up here. But words of wisdom say lance no good either then big tiger is giving a hug. Kaisharga can have all fun with tiger."
Then he looks at his companions. "Ibid and Finarin has bows, right? And Gunari has, uh, beer? Miro can sing. Cyrus-boy, don't go make snake moves with tiger, tiger has big bite."
"What will Amaranti do, if he be up here? I know some spells, maybe tease tiger with spells..."
Gunari chuckles, and replies, "My friend, I have far more than beer... and the courage that it brings! The Accidental God has given me magics that I can use to make myself far more potent in combat than I would normally be. And courage... don't forget courage. I am more than willing to take this challenge on with Cyrus, to rush out to meet the tiger in hand-to-hand combat. Perhaps this would be a good time, Amaranti, to let Karshaiga have a rest, and use your other abilities, such as summoning Earth Elementals, and the like? I've heard that Stirges are often good to summon, as they drink the blood of their targets, weakening them. Yes, blood bugs would be a great way to go hear. Oh, I guess those are only available for druids. So, then, elementals. Earth elementals hit hard, and can take a hit. Does Karshaiga grabble and constrict? No, that's too bad."
Gunari pauses a moment, realizing he is sounding more like Miro or Cyrus, but then decides he doesn't care. "Of course, I am not very stealthy, especially in this armor, so I may need help finding a place to hide out. Or, if the group prefers I could just try to shoot my bow. I am not as good with it as I am the rapier, but at least I would be out of range. However, I think if we really want the Tiger to stay around, we'll want a couple of people around that can keep its attention."
What is in this beverage the porter gave me? It gives me so much ENERGY!!!
The machans are mounted 20ft above the ground. You can ascend to them using the single ladder each comes with by passing a DC 10 climb check. If you choose to go up without climbing the ladder, it's a DC 15 climb check.
I've moved Ibid to M11. Amaranti was there, but I moved him down to N11 since Ibid called it first. Argue it out if you like. ;-P
Yes, this is the same day. Gunari calls his shield spell back.
There are 3 machans, as displayed as a wooden platform on the map. Ibid, Amaranti and the baron are already positioned in two of them. 3 of you will fit in each machan, on the "wooden" squares (even though they're made of webbing).
"Light?" asks the baron, a little surprised at the question, "No, I think not. Light would most likely scare the tiger away. The moon should be out tonight, so we'll be able to enjoy dim light at least... in the clearing. Under the canopy it will be pitch black. Let your eyes adjust and you should be fine - you, in particular Lord Moonstep, I imagine will not have a problem," Bomande's eyes dart over Finarin's lengthy ears, "Once battle ensues, light would be welcome. With its territory to defend and prey in sight, the sudden appearance of a light source would be unlikely to deter the tiger.
"Kaisharga and Cyrus - hide below the canopy if you will, but tigers are very stealthy, can see quite well in the dark and can locate their prey by scent," the baron cautions, "You may not notice the creature until it is tearing at your guts with its claws and chewing on your throat with its mouth. I really would recommend being off the ground - at least until we spot the beast. It will take a little while longer to close with it, but you'll be much safer. Amaranti and Gunari, good at range or no, I insist that you stay hidden on a platform. Aside from your safety, you are most likely ones to give us away if you are on the ground."
Having provided all the warning he is willing to give on the topic, Bomande returns to barking orders, Cyrus, I can see the construction work at the base of that machan, we need more branches and leaves below it. You can't have too much camouflage - unless it gets in the way of your field of vision, that is!"
Preparations continue. Gunari shares around the porter's special imported Sikari tea.

"Ahh My Lord, I was referring to those less ... sighted than I. We found ourselves mired in the most ferocious ... combat aboard a boat of all places. My friends had trouble hitting due to the ... conditions. I fear we best take this tiger down quickly."
Trying to rationalize how to get down quickly in an emergency.
PRD Falling:
Creatures that fall take 1d6 points of damage per 10 feet fallen, to a maximum of 20d6. Creatures that take lethal damage from a fall land in a prone position.
If a character deliberately jumps instead of merely slipping or falling, the damage is the same but the first 1d6 is nonlethal damage. A DC 15 Acrobatics check allows the character to avoid any damage from the first 10 feet fallen and converts any damage from the second 10 feet to nonlethal damage. Thus, a character who slips from a ledge 30 feet up takes 3d6 damage. If the same character deliberately jumps, he takes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 2d6 points of lethal damage. And if the character leaps down with a successful Acrobatics check, he takes only 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 1d6 points of lethal damage from the plunge.
Falls onto yielding surfaces (soft ground, mud) also convert the first 1d6 of damage to nonlethal damage. This reduction is cumulative with reduced damage due to deliberate jumps and the Acrobatics skill.
A character cannot cast a spell while falling, unless the fall is greater than 500 feet or the spell is an immediate action, such as feather fall. Casting a spell while falling requires a concentration check with a DC equal to 20 + the spell's level. Casting teleport or a similar spell while falling does not end your momentum, it just changes your location, meaning that you still take falling damage, even if you arrive atop a solid surface.
So a DC 15 acrobatics check yields how much damage from a 20 foot fall? First 10 ignore, second 10 is nonlethal/nonlethal because of acrobatics/yielding surfaces. Do the second ten cancel out to no damage?
"Baron, I assume you'll be wanting the tiger's pelt more or less intact, precluding the use of items such as Alchemist's Fire. I shall thus start the fight by calling upon the favor of Cayden Cailean (casing Bless), and then doing my best with my bow. When the situation merits it, I will drop down and fight in melee. Cyrus, I would suggest that you stay up here with Amaranti and myself... no real need to put yourself at risk, and you are likely far better with a bow than I am. If the beast is close enough, you'll even be able to use your precision attacks!
"Miro, I assume you'll be cheering us on, before you start doing fun things like Greasing the tiger? I would really like to see the big beast spinning away on your pool of magical oil!
"Staying up here, under cover, as long as possible seems to be the best idea.
"Say, is there any way that we could craft some sort of snare or something near that carcass? Or a deadfall/pit trap? That'd be fun, were it to work!"
More tea! Gotta have more tea! Hopefully this tea is nothing like Klatchian coffee... which takes you from drunk to its opposite, which is NOT sobriety.
Finarin: 1d6 nonlethal damage, landing on your feet (not prone). The surface below is not soft or muddy - it's hard ground, albeit covered in grass. They would cancel out, though, in the case where it were soft ground. You could get Gunari to create enough water (or beer) to make the ground muddy if you liked, but it would then be difficult terrain in the puddle.
Another option would be climbing 10ft down the ladder (DC 10) and then dropping down on purpose, risking 1d6 NL damage but not risking falling over. Such a thing could be a single move action (dropping yourself as a free action) unless someone knows better?
This is a good question, I was thinking I wanted to do the same thing... Death from above so to speak... Which I just found out is an actual feat.... I don't know if there is anyway to not take damage from 20 feet unless you are right about the soft ground finarin...
"I would prefer the pelt in tact," says the baron, "But killing it is the important thing. If you think dropping a flask of fire upon it is the best strategy, by all means do so. I'll not be holding back with my musket! I'd suggest that the first person to spot the tiger starts the combat. After all, it may already be aware of us and I would hate to waste an opportunity. A blessings seems like it would be a good idea, but I'm not one to rely on magical aid." The baron pats his maimed leg for emphasis.
Gunari: The tea is, much milder than that! It does contain caffeine, though, and for someone who is used to the soporific effects of beer even lightly caffeinated beverages would have quite the zing.
Cyrus: Monks have slow fall, and there may be some ninja or rogue talents along those lines, but otherwise it is impossible to non-magically avoid damage from a 20ft fall onto a hard surface.
The machans are erected just in time for sunset. The baron climbs up to his hiding spot, agile despite his limp, and indicates for the Pathfinders to take their positions also.
Please make any final plans, place yourself on the map where you would like to be and tell me when you are good to go!

Finarin takes out his shiny new wand of cure light wounds.
Ok can I say that I feel like a kid before Christmas? I placed myself with the Baron. I don't want to be on the other side of the river because I feel like being over there would take too long to get across. I also feel like I am going to get a lot of action with the excitable Baron and as a Sovereign Court member that is where I should be. I have completely over thought this situation. I really hope I don't get fired tomorrow as I hit refresh every 12 seconds.
"Pardon baron, may I .... join you? Though I have lived many lifetimes before you were born, I feel these .... events, .... this hunt.... will be one that I long remember. Shoot well my Lord!"
Finarin unslings his bow, placing it within easy reach. He looks through his arrows, choosing those that look straight with full fetching. He closes his eyes, envisioning a large tiger padding slowly into view, nocking his arrow, releasing the bowstring, tightening his muscles as the bow remain perfectly steady, watching the arrow fly straight towards the tiger's heart.

Miro nods to Gunari soberly. "Aye, that sounds like a fine plan. I'll camp out across the river, that way our prime hunters can be in excellent position to take down the beast!"
With that, Miro trots across the clearing and crosses the creek, climbing to the relative safety the machans provides.
Cyrus makes to protest, but quickly remembers his recent conversation with ibid, and nods in deference to the Baron's wisdom.
"I'll take a position on the platform here, closest to the tiger's last meal. I'll lead with my crossbow, and then get down for ground support as quickly as possible. Hopefully I can click this wand off on the first try..." he says with a smile.
is activating a wand something I could do silently? I don't want to alert the tiger when he enters the clearing, but would hate to take a turn in combat to cast the spell...
The old man crouches on his machan, composite longbow in hand. His eyes sweep across the open spaces before the group as the light in the sky begins to fail. From his breast pocket, beneath his leather jacket, he pulls his scuffed and well-used wayfinder. Should the need arise once the fight begins, the old man is prepared to fill the area with light.
In the gathering darkness, Ibid nods to the Baron. A moment later, the old man nods to Cyrus as well, an emploring look begging the youth to be careful.
Ibid: Ready. Wayfinder out, so he can cast light on it, if needed. Alternatively, if someone is looking for something to do in round one, light would always be appreciated ;)
Spell trigger activation is similar to spell completion, but it's even simpler. No gestures or spell finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting that an appropriate character would know, and a single word that must be spoken. Spell trigger items can be used by anyone whose class can cast the corresponding spell. This is the case even for a character who can't actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin. The user must still determine what spell is stored in the item before she can activate it. Activating a spell trigger item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
The tiger would get a perception check to hear you whisper. +1 to the DC for every 10 ft and hard to hear anyway.

Amaranti hears the wisdom in the Gunari's words, and decides to spare Kaisharga from this ordeal. A wave of hand, and the eidolon is no more. Only handful of dust remains of the odd creature...
Ready. Plan is to smite the tiger with creatures from planes beyond
You know, I don't believe I've ever seen Amaranti use a summon monster spell... kinda excited.
Gunari and Miro, I've swapped you around, since I can see no reason Miro would refuse. Miro, do let me know if you had a reason to be in the other spot (F16) and we can retcon.
Darkness descends and, after lengthening all afternoon, the shadows eventually all blend into one. The twilight sky still provides some illumination, but already the forest just beyond the canopy is shrouded in impenetrable darkness that only Kaisharga's eyes could have penetrated.
The baron remains as alert as ever, and snaps an angry glance around to any who move too much or make any kind of audible noise. Settling in on the machans, the party waits for their prey to arrive - hoping and praying that they are the hunters and not the hunted. Cyrus tries to make himself comfortable.

**EDIT** I stuffed up alphabetical coordinates on the map, fixed now. Sorry about the black bar, too much effort to redo from scratch.
It is approaching midnight, and the hunters are getting a little restless when a sound of rustling underbrush and snapping twigs emerges from the sounds of insects and other creatures of the night. Everyone is shocked to hear Count Matsanda's voice, "Bomande? Are you there?" the count half-whispers, half-yells, fear evident in his voice, "I think something is following me, and it's growling so loud. I changed my mind and came back to find you, but I got lost. So, so terribly lost! Please, help me before the tiger gets me!"
A low growl can be heard from the darkness. It sounds only slightly back from where the count is. Cursing at his son-in-law, Bomande climbs half way down the ladder and drops down the rest of the way before rushing off to find Count Matsanda. The Pathfinders hear him muttering, "That damn boy is going to scare off the tiger - or worse, get himself killed!"

"My Lord wouldn't it be more ... prudent just to have him climb up here? Wait you are ju.... great ... another Cyrus."
Shaking his head in disbelief, the elf lithely climbs down the 10 feet move action taking 10 and then drops? the rest of the way or can I just take a double move and climb all the way down without taking the 1d6 of nonlethal? regardless I follow the Baron. Lord Cyrus Stupidpants II
Useless where he is hiding, Gunari will climb down the ladder.
climb:1d20 - 3 ⇒ (8) - 3 = 5 climb:1d20 - 3 ⇒ (8) - 3 = 5 I am actually assuming a DC 0 right now, or at most DC5, like a knotted rope. Either way, he wastes no roll pips to get down as a double move. stealth, not that it will matter:1d20 - 4 ⇒ (18) - 4 = 14
Just re-read the climb rules. You can climb at 1/4 movement rate, so 5ft per move action for the limping baron. I forgot to make his rolls - so many rolls already made! ;-)
Baron, hustle climb (10ft, -5 penalty), DC 10:1d20 + 5 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 5 = 18-- 1 move action Baron, acrobatics to fall 10ft, DC 15:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22-- free action
-- Moves the remaining 20ft as a move action.
As an aside, any of you (save for the speed hampered Miro or Gunari) could perform an accelerated climb (-5 penalty) and then drop down the remaining 5ft safely with no acrobatics check required, if you preferred.
**EDIT** Cyrus'd! Gunari, as I noted in an earlier post (among a million other things, so no worries that you missed it) the climb DC is 10 as the ladder sways precariously under the machan. Don't ask me why.
Gunari falls from the ladder, not expecting the large movements from the swaying branches.
Falling damage (20ft, not deliberate, so lethal):2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5-- Sorry, Gunari! At least I rolled low.
Gunari stands up, a little embarrassed perhaps but moves no further this round. Unless you'd like to stay prone. Miro can climb down to the opposite side of the ladder to avoid landing on Gunari.
In this light, from this distance, Gunari's stealth roll may actually matter. Keep in mind you need to move at half speed if you wish to maintain it.
No big deal. Gunari will stand up, and dust himself off as his second move action. I missed the DC. Not that it matters ('cause Gunari probably should have jumped first, asked questions later)... this saves him a round, and I can always heal with a fervor if I need to.
Cyrus settles in next to Ibid for the long wait. He had done this sort of thing before, sometimes it would take hours, or all night for a mark to reveal himself, back when he was just a kid on the streets. Most kids have up after a few minutes, but that was why he was the best.... He continually scans the tree line, crossbow in one hand, wand in the other, waiting for the mark to reveal himself. ok, I will whisper the activation word (wand of shield) as soon as the tiger is spotted. Hopefully he isn't trying to be stealthy in his own territory, coming up on his own kill... If you decide to roll for me, it is a +8 to my umd check, dc20. I hope to have it cast and activated before the surprise round, so I can shoot my crossbow as my first action, then be ready to jump into the fray.
Ummm.... Did my wayfinder app just post that now?.... That was from earlier today... Ugh...
Cyrus curses under his breath as it looks like the count, who was doing so well, was about to spoil everything. He takes a second to activate his wand of shield, then drops down to the ground, crossbow in hand, looking around for signs of danger.
sorry, I am traveling right now and am not able to move my token on the map. Please roll any acrobatics checks for me that I might need to get down and move into the shadows. If possible I would also like to roll a stealth check.
Finarin: No taking 10, by the way, since you're rushing to aid the count. It's a climb check to move the first 7.5 feet (1/4 movement). If you pass that, then that acrobatics check means no non-lethal damage... and you can have a move action to move after the count.
Finarin climb:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Take your move after the count!
Best chain of action / rolls for Cyrus based on his posts... classic tech issues:
Shield activated via UMD and the wand. Standard action.
Cyrus acrobatics to avoid first 10 ft damage:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 -- Jumping down as a move action since he's not just letting go of the ladder. Nonlethal damage from the second 10 ft of the jump:1d6 ⇒ 4 Cyrus stealth:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

"अर्थातच!"* Amaranti mutters, as he witnesses all their plans thrown away. The baron, the count, and the probable tiger all outside Ibid's light, Amaranti cannot do much from here. Quickly casting a Shield on himself, the Garundi starts climbing down the ladder.
Miro can make another climb check (double move) to move 5 feet (he's currently making no progress) and if he likes an acrobatics check to drop down as a free action (no damage on a 15+ and 1d6 nonlethal otherwise).
The baron continues on, racing along despite his bad leg to find his son-in-law. Just as he reaches the edge of the clearing, a creature with striped haunches moves out of the shadows and attempts to maul him. As the thing attacks, the Pathfinders see in the blurry darkness that it has a strange, elongated head with massive powerful jaws and hooves that would match the hoof prints found around the camp. Its fur and coloration definitely match that of a tiger, but the pathfinders can't see much more detail than that from where they are standing, except for Finarin.
Anyone who has it, please make me a knowledge (arcana) check, sorry, don't have time for spoilers.
Finarin, you will get to act normally this round - helping the count is a cleary dangerous action and the suggestion no longer applies - even if you don't know where the count is. You get a clear look at the creature, but I'll say no more until you make a knowledge (arcana) check.
The baron staggers back, severely wounded but still upwardly mobile as he growls out a challenge, "So you're the beast that attacked my men those years ago! Well, today, I will have my revenge."

Once safely on the ground, Miro decides that tactics have changed. He jumps across the small creek to J17.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 4 = 9
Once across, he will then unleash a torrent of grease under the beast, hoping to buy Finarin and the Baron a respite while the others close on the creature.
Ah, sh*t. Forgot to do my edits to the map and now I'm on an iPhone! Baron is at L29. Beastie is taking up M28, M29, N28 & N29. Please move the baron for me, and draw a square for the beast. I'll update it properly in an hour or so.
Even Miro can wade across the small creek. Difficult terrain, but no swim or jump check required... unless you really want!

Rumors of a lost shrine in the Segang Jungle draw the Pathfinder Society’s attention, but the prohibitive cost of sending a team into the wilds of Jalmeray threatens to shut down the expedition before it even begins. Fortunately, a wealthy patron has offered to fund the PCs travel expenses in return for their help in his decades-old quest. Can the Pathfinders balance this new obligation with their exploration of the archaeological site?

Huh, thought i had posted here.
Still gonna do Gunari, because no one else is really ready. Going to save Black Jak Sparrow for Wisps (so he's still level 1), and can't quite play Lucius yet (waiting to finish GMing something that has a boon he needs). Really, the only other option would be Trask, and he's level 3 as well now. Probably should have put him on slow advancement. Oh, well.
So:
Character: Gunari Maximoff
Player: Jack Brown
PFS#: 74294-9
Day Job: Drunken Priest. Doesn't make any money, but has fun doing it!
That beings said, depending on when we start, Z'hor'll B'bblebr'x, my Undine Watersinger (Bard) might be ready. He's playing Prince of Augustana right now, and we've got one more encounter left.
He'll be level 2, but I wouldn't want to step on Miro's toes.
All good. I don't think toe stepping is going to be an issue with this group. We'll be starting in earnest on Monday, but I may post some intro stuff over the weekend depending on how things go with reading the scenario.
I'm really looking forward to starting a scenario after it is released. ;-)
Glad you like the turkey chase scene. Goes well with the cornbread stuffing and pumpkin pie I just made for tomorrow. I'm so in the mood for something like this. ;-)
A character who wants to attempt to move three cards during his turn can do so by taking a full-round action. That character must overcome both obstacles on the card he is leaving. In this case, if a character fails either obstacle check by 5 or less, he only moves one card forward and his turn ends. If a character fails either obstacle check by more than 5, he cannot move at all that turn. A character unfortunate enough to fail two obstacle checks in a turn becomes mired in his current square (he might have fallen from a ledge, gotten a foot stuck amid roots, or got caught in a crowd, for example). A character who is mired must spend another full-round action becoming unmired and effectively loses his next turn in the chase. In some cases, becoming mired might impart additional penalties (such as falling damage).
@ GM Damo Let me know if I didn't do this correctly, or if I still need to make more checks for my turn.
I ended up performing checks for both obstacles on card 1, and so far, 1 obstacle for card 2.
Either way, you deserve a lot of credit, this is totally awesome!
Based on the way the rules read, it looks like you did it right Ibid...
Though that doesn't seem to make much logical sense... Moving 3 cards for going over the hedge row twice is just odd...
I personally don't care how we do it (because it is awesome) but it makes more sense to do it the way Sheeba did as an example, 1 move action per card. Just my thoughts :)
I rolled Cyrus' acrobatics check as a +11 because thats what it is at level 3, I haven't updated his profile yet, just in case you were wondering.
I agree with Cyrus about it making more sense, but rules be rules and you have to get ahead somehow - even if you do risk being mired in the hedgegrow. I think it's just putting in a super awesome effort that spurns you on to greater feats of greatness later on. I may house-rule it out later on (and go with, say, take a cumulative -5 penalty on everything you attempt, and get mired wherever you fail), but for now I'm good with using RAW. After all, without at least trying RAW, what would we have to base our criticisms and then improvements on? ;-)
Oh, and yes, Ibid, you did it right!
I may not have done it right, though - seems I low-balled the DCs. Heh.
As Gunari, Finarin and Amaranti are still reluctantly crouched at the starting line, I cannot (repeat cannot) get this damn song out of my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cno20onK9dY
Aaaand Voila! Cyrus is updated to level 3 (excited giggle).
GM - I purchased a wand of shield with 2 PP (40% chance of success currently, likely won't use that IN combat, hopefully just before...) and also purchased a masterwork light crossbow. (and bolts) Keeping the daggers for now, and apparently turning into the guy who drops 50 weapons on the pile when he isn't allowed to bring them in to the king's audience chamber.
Happy Thanksgiving! Among the gigantic, impossible-to-assemble-because-it-is-so-long LIST of things I am thankful for, I include this group. Because you all make this game even more fun, which I didn't think was possible.
I too must ad my thanks for this group - you guys are awesome. When I did Trial By Machine it was literally my last try at PbP - like a "if this doesn't work, then I'm done" kind of thing. While it wasn't exactly luck, I can't believe I hit 6 for 6! Such a vast improvement on the previous two games I'd experienced to that point (except for Gunari's antics, of course, which is why I invited him along).
Thanks everyone, you all make my PbP time such a pleasure - and makes me want to do more of this kind of thing for you. I swear, I enjoy bar time just as much as scenario time... maybe even more. ;-)

Miro and Amaranti, I still need these from you please.
Also, it looks like we'll be APL 3 for the next scenario. That means we could play it at Tier 4-5 with the 4 player adjustment if we wanted to (unless I'm mistaken) if Finarin doesn't mind risking his level 2 skin.
Of course, if we play the Wounded Wisp for all but Finarin, there won't be any need to worry about the above situation. ;-) Up to all of you, I guess.

What's everyone think? I we played up, would we get more cold hard cash?!?

Are we all level 3 except for Finarin?
That puts us at APL3, which means we have to play up. The fringe case only matters for seasons 0-3, which don't have four player adjustments. Or at least that is how most people read that section of the guide. As for rewards, we still get just the out of subtier gold, but access to items and boons for the higher tier.
This could definitely be rough. We will need to make sure to pay attention to if/when we can rest, and we may need extra consumables.
I could possibly bring i. My level five inquisitor, or my level four druid (though she is kind of weak) if you all would prefer. Would give us a character in subtier, at least.
I think, even if I can bring in my bard, we won't be low enough for lower tier.
I think it should be up to finarin, since he would be at the most risk. Either way I qualify for the out of tier gold, but the higher tier boons and items available would be nice.
I agree with silbeg, we would need to be more careful about our tactics, ie no more of me rushing ahead :)
I think my comment was misleading: Miro and Finarin are currently level 2, so our APL is below 3 for Segang. We're fine. For the next scenario, it will be APL 3 if Gunari tags along. No big deal, and we'll worry about it when we come to it, but if Finarin likes we could play the next scenario one tier up.

Oh, and to answer Ibid's question, Gunari would get more cash, because he's not playing for "out of subtier" rewards anymore. Everyone else will get the same one way or the other, but the items on the chronicle sheet will be the subtier 4-5 items, which are generally cooler and more expensive.
Finarin may, I believe, get more cold hard cash also, but I'd have to do more research on that one.
Okay folks, done some more reading. Sorry to break up the turkey chase action with book keeping, but it seems we need to round our APL to the nearest whole number...
This means we need to play tier 4-5 with the 4 player adjustment. I've read some of the adventure thus far, and there are no red flags for Miro or Finarin. They may get a KO, but very unlikely to be a death. The main issue will be that skill tests are about 5 DC higher - which shouldn't be too much of a problem for someone who can get a 47 on acrobatics.
Just make sure you stock up on alchemists fire, holy water, and all the other "standard" gear for a well-prepared adventurer. There are two fights that do a good amount of damage, but just send your warpriest in first, make sure you always heal after a battle and don't be stupid, you'll be fine.
Alternatively, if Gunari plays a level 2, you'll round back down to 2.5 and can choose which subtier to play (which you would only do so you can play the easier subtier).
I can also confirm that, if we play subtier 4-5, Finarin and Miro will get the juicier gold amount.
So... voting time?
Determining Subtiers:
From the Season 6 Guide to Organized Play
In order to determine which subtier a mixed-level group of PCs must play in, calculate the group’s average party level (APL). Divide the total number of character levels by the number of characters in the party. You should always round to the nearest whole number. If you are exactly at 0.5, let the group decide which subtier they wish to play.
Starting with Season 4, scenarios are designed for six characters and contain instructions on how to adjust the scenario for four-character parties. When the APL of a table is between two subtiers (like APL 3 for a Tier 1–5 scenario), a party of four characters must play the lower tier without any adjustments for party size. A party of five to seven characters whose APL is between two subtiers must play the higher tier with the four-character adjustment.
For scenarios written in Seasons 0 to 3, when the APL is in between subtiers, a party of six or seven characters must play the higher subtier. Parties with four or five characters must play the lower subtier. In the fringe case where there are no players that are high enough to have reached the subtier level (such as a party of six 3rd level characters), the group may decide to play down to the lower subtier.
Gunari is still level 3, which puts us at 2.67 (which rounds to 3).
I don't know that I have a level 2 available... all I would have is a level 1. Which I can put together this weekend, if we don't want to play up.
Gunari has done a decent job of pumping his AC (normally AC 22, 24 with Shield of Faith). I am looking at some magical enhancements that I might be able to get, which could drive it up. That'd enable me to tank a little. Plus, if Ibid, Cyrus, and Amaranti are all 3rd, and we have Karshaiga, we'll have decent firepower, I think.
Male Human (Garundi), Summoner 10, HP: 93/93 | AC: 19[21] FF: 17[19] Touch: 13 | Saves: Fort: +11[+13] Ref: +9[+11] Will: +11[+13] | Perception: +2 SM +0| Init: +2 | CMB: +16 | CMD: 27 | Speed: 30 | Spells 1st: 6/6 2nd: 4/5 3rd: 2/4 4th: 1/1| Wand of MA 39/50(1) | Wand of IH 38 / 50 | Active conditions: heroism 200 min, greater invisibility 10 rounds
I'm fine either way. On some scenario's playing up is practically a suicide, but I hope Damien would have pointed it out if this was one of them :)
In the fringe case where there are no players that are high enough to have reached the subtier level (such as a party of six 3rd level characters), the group may decide to play down to the lower subtier.
So since none of us is lvl 4 yet, we can choose to play lower tier as well. But as I said, I'm fine either way :)
The full quote begins with For scenarios written in Seasons 0 to 3 . It's because those scenarios don't have a 4 player adjustment available.
And you are right that I would point out an obvious TPK or even K moment. KO is all you really need to worry about. You've all got plenty of healing available.

Holy shit am I pissed I am missing all this turkey fun. Now I know what it feels like to be Amaranti. Sorry I have been AFK my daughter was in the Chicago Thanksgiving parade and that took all my time the last few days. Back to normal posting routines so get ready, I haven't checked Ophiuch's thread yet.
Playing up and down:
Let me say that I am sooo very thankful for this group. It has been tremendous to game with you all these last few months. I have felt a resurgence in the enjoyment of old. Everytime we go into combat I get a bit nervous, not for the normal reasons. I don't have the stable of characters that say .... Silbeg has. If Finarin or Ophiuchus dies, I can no longer game with you all. And that would be devastating to me.
I am working on getting in a scenario or 2 in this weekend to ding to 3. I really gain a lot of power at 3 - Dervish Dance so all my hits get the +4 damage, and a magus arcana. I could do essentially 4d6+4 damage in one round followed by 2d6+8. Right now the best I can do is 3d6 a round followed by 2d6.
On the flip side, this group is great at tactics and DPR if needed. I do not want to be the anchor to hold us back. I am less than 100gp away from an upgrade and I am ticked I can't get it, so I know those higher tiers reward are so worth it.
Sorry for the stream of conscious [damm this coffee it good), so I am in for playing up. Trying to even out and then some so we don't have to worry about this again.
So I have a ton of PPs to spend, should I go CLW or something to boost my meager 18 ac like Shield?
As a last resort I could always GM and Lort and Gunari can ride again. I would have to use my 'Daddy' voice to keep you two in line. GMs make the worst PCs.

I 100% agree with this, Finarin. I am so grateful to be able to participate with this group. And likewise, playing with everyone in this group has rekindled my love for tabletop RPGs, even so much so that my in person gaming sessions are starting to stale in comparison to the adventures and interactions with this group! I don't even want to think about what will happen if Ibid or Vox doesn't make it out alive... I have realized that Ibid has quickly become my favorite character of my gaming career.
So, looks like we'll be playing up. Absolutely fine by me. I will make sure, also, to take the most PC generous interpretation of the written tactics possible (it's still PFS, so can't do too much to reduce trouble, but I won't be gunning for you like I was in say... Crypt of the Everflame).
As for PC death, Finarin... you would totally still be able to game with us. Aside from the fact that I'm sure everyone would pool resources to get you a raise dead (one of the few times pooling resources is allowed to happen), I'm also sure these guys would be willing to play with a new character of yours until it is of appropriate level to game with the "big boys" again.
My stable of characters, also, is slim. GM credits are a lot less risky than playing, though! It's always a bit hairy when Lort is out there on a real mission (I love the character)... especially with his "kick the door in" tactics. ;-)
Regarding a shield, pretty sure dervish dance means your off-hand needs to be free, so don't waste the PP. CLW is a good use of PP, and it would be nice if everyone had a wand to contribute to the pool - not that I think anyone here would resent it if you didn't.
As for the item you want but are short on GP for, you can't pool resources for permanent items on your character sheet. However, you are allowed to pool resources during a scenario. I would consider loaning the gold to buy the item in-game a use of this rule: You may, however, allow another player to borrow an item for the duration of a scenario.
So, unless someone knows of a rule that forbids it, I would allow you to ask for financial aid from another PC, buy the item in-game for this session, and then buy it "for real" at the end of the scenario. If it's an item you really want, I'm sure it'll help to cope with the higher-tier you're playing in.
Finarin, is the spell shield on your spell list? I bought a wand with pp for this scenario, we can share it, and having you cast it on me will be easier than me trying to roll use magic device over and over... Then you don't have to carry the shield...
By the way, read this adventure and I am loving the flavor of it. I hope all of you have as much desire to play a safari-style romp through the jungle as I do.

@ Cyrus Shield is on my list so that is an autocast for me. Thanks for the offer to share. I will gladly wand you anytime.
@ GM I was going for the +1 to my armor and am 71 gp short. As generous as your are that is not an item to share. Looking over things to sell and I don't have 142 worth of items. Have to wait until the scenario is over. :(
Most likely going to pick up that happy stick, and load up on some standard adventure items.
Finarin: I wasn't talking about the sharing aspect, I was talking about the borrowing aspect. In this case, you would be borrowing 71 items total, all pieces of gold.
First things first. Never took care of the Necrotic Boils.
So the day after the boils set in.
Con Damage:1d4 ⇒ 2
Fort Save, DC11 to cure:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Whew... So with those rolls, I take the damage the first day, but it is cured by passing the save that same day, and that 2 damage eventually heals. No harm, no foul. No one tell Sheeba... Or Sirena...

I had forgotten. I would have cleared those at the end of the last scenario if I'd remembered. Good point about shield, Gunari! I'd missed that.
Adding to the things I have already purchased (mw light crossbow)
Selling my mundane light mace, purchasing a masterwork, alchemically silvered light mace, 3 alchemist fire, 2 oil of magic weapon, and sweet talking Sheeba into giving me a flask of uncut Essence of Razmir.
PFS Field guide says that strong alchohol is as good at breaking a mimic's glue grasp as anything...
If anyone else has any suggestions on consumables, or things we should purchase, please speak up! I am drawing a blank.
Also, I am lending the necessary gold for Finarin to buy his magic armor. You can pay me back after the scenario is over and we are all rolling in the fat paycheck :)
And let me just say that there are some groups I have played with in PbP that I would have probably not volunteered to pool resources to bring a dead player back. In this one, I would sell all I own (of my fake, imaginary toys) to bring any of you back. :) I agree with Ibid, Cyrus has become my favorite character for several reasons, and this group/these games have really lit my fire for gaming in general.
And to think, I only checked the discussion thread on a random whim of a thought. Otherwise I would have never seen GM Damo's invitation! It's providence! :)
I have good feelings about making GenCon happen next year.... Like better than a 50/50 shot.
Ahh... forgot completely about the "personal" range. So I guess I have to roll and roll and roll until I get at least a 12... So will only be pre-buffing myself with that...
Finarin can still use charges off of it though :)
Edit: And Gen Con is July 30-Aug 2. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Much and many thanks. I updated my inventory, just need to scan and upload. New Additions: Heavy Mace became a light alchemical silvered mace, scimitar became a cold-iron scimitar, and bought a CLW wand w/ 2 PP. That leaves me 98 short for the +1.
I have good feelings about making GenCon happen next year.... Like better than a 50/50 shot.
I don't think I'll be able to easily swing GenCon two years running. HOWEVER if at least 3 (maybe even 2) of you fine lads are going, I will try so, so hard to make it. I will burn wife brownie points galore in order to make it happen. Since it is the weekend directly following my wife's birthday (29th July), it's going to be a metric f*ck ton of brownie points, too! It's so many brownie points that even raising the topic now would cost me (overflow effect and all that).
Still, I would spend them if it got me there with 2-3+ of you fine chaps. I would even wear chaps if it helped. Hmm, I live in Texas, shouldn't be hard to rustle up a pair...
Oh, and if you can at all avoid it, do not stay at La Quinta Inn & Suites in downtown Indianapolis. The place was an overpriced dump and the service was absolutely dreadful. I stayed there with friends on a budget this year. Never again.
You can get quite a few hotels at the moment who will charge no deposit and allow you to change or cancel your booking for free. If you want to get a good deal and beat the rush... I don't see why you wouldn't book Indianapolis accommodation right now. Hmm. I may just do that.
