GM Damo |
The companions find themselves once more in the familiar taproom of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The journey was a long one by land, but all agreed that they'd rather not get on a ship again until they absolutely had to.
It was only when they arrived at the Lodge that they realised what time of year it was: Turkey Day! A holiday where everyone in Absalom pays homage to the lost empire of Azlant by eating copious amounts of roasted bird and mashed root vegetables while drinking strangely flavored drinks that they would never consume any other time of year, before passing out from either over-eating or excessive drinking.
The taproom is filled with traditional Turkey Day decorations, and delicious smells emanate from the nearby kitchen.
Dot in when you're ready!
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
dot!
Finarin Moonstep |
"Roasted fowl. At least it is not more ... salted meats. I wonder if that horrible dwarven woman is now ... employed here." After looking at the faded calluses on his hands, Fianrin produces his silken rag from his sleeve, and looks to see his seat is almost cleaned. He wipes the few stray particles that none would see other than himself. He knew that a meeting with a venture captain was occur sooner rather than later, and he knew he had once last chance to cover his condition before the others figured it out. They were too smart by far, and too observant. He looked hopefully around the bar, hoping to see Sheeba with a goblet of Chelish red, quickly followed by his friends. This time he prayed no more drinking games. At least, not at first.
Amaranti |
"Strange customs... But is ugly bird, looks much better roasted"
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
On his approach to the table, Ibid tries laugh at the garundi's comment, but finds he cannot muster the sound.
A second later the old man slumps into an open chair at the table, removing his dusty hat and placing it on the open space before him. After an inaudible nod to his friends, trying (perhaps vainly) to show his companions that his own sullen mood is not at all because of them, Ibid raises a hand to signal for a drink.
There is a sense of distraction about the old man as his gaze aimlessly shifts about, and physically, he looks more wiry and haggard than usual, as if some underlying tension has taken hold and not allowed him to sleep since investigating the Gloomspires and Sevenfingers' Tomb
Cyrus the Flea |
Cyrus' overall mood has brightened after returning from the delve of Sevenfinger's tomb. He came to a realization in that adventure that Ibid has the information he needs about his father, and their friendship was more important to him than pressing for that information right now. Unless of course he was willing to finally spill the beans.
Besides, he knew as long as the old man was alive, he could get it from him eventually. If he had made it this long without answers, he could wait a little longer if necessary. Maybe.
To his surprise, this lifted a huge weight off his shoulders, for the time being. That and the prospect of returning to the taproom and a certain feline waitress.
The decorations are somewhat lost on the rail thin keleshite as he walks through the bar with a skip in his step. He scans the room immediately on entrance, his hand subconsciously moving to the missing piece of his ear, and a crooked smile on his face. He plops down between Ibid and Amaranti.
"Soo... Any drinking games tonight?" He says with a wry smile, elbowing Amaranti.
Hrm... The old man looks a little uncomfortable. He didn't even come in last time... Maybe I am wearing him down.
Gunari Maximoff |
Gunari enters the room, this time with a lady friend on his arm. All in the room are surprised to see that it is none other than Sirena Kirste!
"Friends! So good to see you! Have you met my cousin Sirena?" Gunari immediately looks to the table, looking to the strangely flavored drinks, pouring himself and Sirena a glass.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Amidst the joyful celebrating and merrymaking of the tavern and his companions, Ibid leans toward Cyrus, craning his neck to decrease their separation. During a particularly loud din of laughing and cheering, hopefully loud enough to conceal his words from the others, he whispers to the youth, "There are things that need to be said.... about your questions..."
"...about your father..."
Ibid struggled to find the right words, his mind seemed consumed by a ragging storm within his own head, clouding his thought and afflicting upon the old man an overwhelming and impending sense of dread. As if something from his past, something he'd long hidden away, had returned and was coming for him.
The old man felt like he had been treading water for nearly his whole life, lost and bobbing in the center of an ocean with no land in sight, but now he was too tired to keep up the struggle, too tired to keep fighting, and was beginning to slip beneath the waves of a dark and cold sea.
The secrets he has long kept were weights bound to his legs and continued to pull him down, threatening to drag him beneath the surface.
"When we have a moment, we'll excuse ourselves from the others and take a walk," said Ibid, sitting back in his own chair in a slouch. Taking the nearest drink, maybe not even his own, Ibid drained it to the last.
There was no point in struggling any longer.
Dave the Giant |
Dave the Giant steps out into the taproom, a wooden cage held aloft in his hand.
"IT IS TIME," Dave bellows, and when Dave bellows, everybody listens, "FOR THE TURKEY RUN!!! THIS YEAR'S TURKEY IS CALLED 'KEVIN'. AS PER USUAL, KEVIN HAS BEEN MAGICALLY ENHANCED TO INCREASE HIS SPEED AND HIS ABILITY TO WITHSTAND YOUR GRUBBY LITTLE HANDS. MAGIC IS ALLOWED, BUT YOU MAY NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PURPOSEFULLY HARM KEVIN. THE STREETS HAVE BEEN CLEARED, THE COURSE IS SET. THOSE WHO WISH TO COMPETE NEED TO GO OUTSIDE NOW."
For those who have been in Absalom for more than a year, the rules of the Turkey Run are simple: the first person to catch the turkey and hold onto it for more than 1 round wins. You may use whatever means you have at your disposal.

For the chase itself, I will be using my completely disused (until now) chase rules from the Game Mastery Guide I bought for pretty much no benefit (again, until now!). Summarized here: Chases. We will be using the head start rules, and you will need to succeed at a grapple when / if you catch up with Kevin (unless you have other ideas about how to catch and hold onto him).
You don't have to participate, but please put yourself on the starting line in your next post if you would like to. Ibid, this can happen after you chat with Cyrus if you like (so run your chat as a flashback) or before it (if you want to do this first) or during it (in which case, sadness, you won't participate).
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Oh, don't you worry. Ibid will be participating, and Ibid will be catching Kevin.
I'll figure out later how to work in the Cyrus Conversation, right about now that seems pretty insignificant next to a turkey chase scene!
Cyrus the Flea |
Cyrus stops short. Did he just say what I think he said? Wow... that was faster than I thought...
"About... My dad? Uh.." Just as he is about to accept, Dave the Giant bursts in the room with his proclamation.
"Uhh.... Well this is awkward... This is going to have to wait now isn't it?"
He gives a half hearted chuckle, seemingly caught between two thoughts.
"No way your catching Kevin before me!" He says suddenly, jumping up, downing a shot of something from the neighbor's table before heading out the door.
Sheeba |
Strangely absent from the tavern, Sheeba meets the companions at the starting line. She is in her "running gear" which consists of a simple modesty cloth around her waist and a sash to wrap her upper section in. Velvety fur (has it been oiled?) glistens in the midday sun as she bends her lithe limbs. Onlookers are unsure if she is stretching or dancing very slowly. Regardless, the onlookers cannot help but look on.
Yep, did full stats for Sheeba!
"Oh, good! You'rrre herrre at last," purrs Sheeba when she sees the companions approach, "That turrrkey is as good as mine. Still, I don't mind a bit of frrriendly competition. I know forrr a fact that at least one of you is limberrr enough to match me... nearrrly."
As Sheeba continues to do her exercises, the companions are unsure as to whether or not those poses are even possible for a human to perform. They become sure when Sheeba bends over backwards to touch her ankles.
I've now finished the Turkey Run Game Board here! I'll get some descriptions, any further rules and initiative rolls out soon.
While there are other contestants, we know which are the ones we care about winning. They all eventually either drop off or fall behind - except for the PCs and the nimble Sheeba.
Dave the Giant |
Dave approaches the contestants, still holding the cage and sporting an enormous grin on his face.
"FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN'T DONE THIS BEFORE, THE RULES ARE SIMPLE: THE FIRST PERSON TO GET A GOOD HOLD ON THE TURKEY, KEVIN HERE, WINS! IF KEVIN MAKES IT AROUND THE CIRCUIT TWICE, WE WILL PUT HIM BACK IN THE CAGE AND HE WILL BE NAMED THE TURKEY DAY CHAMPION THIS YEAR, AND WILL LIVE A LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE ON A FARM SOMEWHERE." The continued grin on Dave's face suggests that this has never actually ever happened.
"THE FIRST OBSTACLE IS THE HEDGEGROW. FULL OF THORNS AND THISTLES, YOU CAN JUMP IT OR CLIMB IT - BUT CLIMBING IT HURTS (2 nonlethal damage from getting pricked if you climb it). NEXT UP IS THE MUDDY CHANNEL. THE CENTER OF THIS CHANNEL CAN BE SWUM, BUT THOSE STILL IN ARMOR MAY PREFER TO SLOG IT OUT IN THE MUD ON THE SIDE. (no special rules)"
Dave lets everyone absorb the first two obstacles before continuing, "YOU WILL THEN BE FACED WITH A CHOICE, CLIMB UP TO THE ROOF ON A THICK, STURDY POLE, OR TRY TO FIND THE SHORTCUT WE HAVE HIDDEN THERE. (if you climb the pole, continue on to "Traverse the rooftop", if you find the secret shortcut, continue to "Crowded street")
"THE ROOFTOP IS RICKETY, AND YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP YOUR BALANCE, OR JUST RUN FOR IT LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! HA! (if you fail either of these checks, you take 1d6 falling damage (no acrobatics allowed to cancel it), your turn is over and it takes you a move action to stand and two move actions to progress to the "Grabbing vines" square, as you pick yourself up, exit the building and run around the long way). THEN IT IS SIMPLY A MATTER OF SLIDING DOWN A CHUTE BEFORE YOU ARE ONCE MORE ON SOLID GROUND (escape artist to slide down the chute, DC 15 if you're medium, DC 5 if you're small - or drop down the side of the building, acrobatics DC 15 to avoid 1d6 falling damage, falling prone and wasting a move to stand up from prone)
"ON THE OTHER HAND, IF YOU MANAGED TO FIND THE SECRET PASSAGEWAY, YOU MUST THEN NAVIGATE A CROWDED STREET (no special rules) BEFORE FINDING YOURSELF LOST IN A DARK ALLEYWAY (perception check to find your way out - DC 10 if you have low-light vision, automatic success with darkvision, or use diplomacy to convince someone to tell you the way out)
"THEN YOU ARE ON THE HOME STRETCH. MAKE IT PAST THE GRABBING VINES BY EITHER AVOIDING THEM (THEY RESPOND TO SOUND) OR ESCAPING THEM WITH NIMBLE MOVES OR BRUTE FORCE (no special rules). THERE IS THEN A SMALL FOUR FOOT HURDLE TO JUMP OVER, OR DUCK UNDER (quite easy to duck under if you are small, escape artist 5 for small, 10 for medium) AND THEN YOU FACE MY FAVORITE CHALLENGE!" Dave unconsciously licks his lips as he imagines this next challenge.
"YOU WILL THEN FACE THE RAGING INFERNO OF: THE TURKEY OVEN! YOU CAN TRY TO GO THROUGH IT, BUT IT IS A STRONG FEAT OF PHYSICAL ENDURANCE TO DO SO. FAST SWIMMERS MAY PREFER TO NAVIGATE THE POOL BENEATH THE OVEN, BUT WATCH FOR DRIPPING FAT! (if you fail the constitution check in the oven, take 1d4 nonlethal damage as you run in and run out from excess heat, if you swim, you take 1d2 nonlethal damage from dripping embers and oil - pass or fail)
"FINALLY, WHEN KEVIN RETURNS HOME, THE CROWD HERE IS ALLOWED TO ACTIVELY PREVENT YOU FROM GRABBING THE POOR TURKEY! STEAL HIM FROM THEM IF YOU CAN. LUCKY FOR YOU, DAVE IS NOT ALLOWED TO STOP YOU. HA!"
With the rules laid out, and the course set, Dave reaches into the cage and pulls out a massive turkey. It seems to have been mutated somewhat (and you wouldn't put it past some of the lodge's alchemists to have done so), but it looks frightened and ready to bolt, "KEVIN GETS A SMALL HEAD START, WAIT FOR MY SIGNAL BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN PAINFUL DISQUALIFICATION."
As soon as the turkey touches the ground it half-clambers half-flies over the hedgegrow, swims while flapping its wings through the watery part of the muddy channel and nimbly ascends the pole - slipping only occasionally - to arrive at the rooftop. As soon as the turkey's claws touch the roof tiles, Dave yells, "GO!"
Chaos ensues.
GM Damo |
Sorry for the massive wall of text above... and for below, “ooc” was getting tiresome, so here’s the contest without all the blue!
Please do read the chase rules. I’m not going to repeat them here, and I’ll try to run it as close to these rules as possible. No matter what square you are on, you can do something other than try to get out of that square (eg. cast a spell, etc). Let me know what you are trying to achieve and I will adjudicate accordingly.
When it is your initiative and you are on the same card as Kevin the Turkey you may try to grapple him instead of moving along. If you grapple Kevin, all he can do is try to break free on his next turn. If he succeeds, he may move again (one card only). If he doesn’t succeed… you win!
You also each have the option to add or remove armor starting. Let me know if you want to. Someone trustworthy will hold onto it for you.
Since initiative and rounds will only come into it once someone gets onto the same card as the turkey, I will call out the rounds. If you missed one, just do two in order to catch up.
Cyrus initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Finarin initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Gunari initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Ibid initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Miro initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Kevin initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Sheeba initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Running order:
1) Gunari
2) Ibid
3) Finarin
4) Miro
5) Sheeba
6) Kevin
7) Cyrus
8) Amaranti
So... partly as an example and partly to kick things off, following hot on the heels of the first for Sheeba sprints away from the starting line.
Sheeba elects to jump over the hedgegrow, rather than face its thorns.
Sheeba acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Easily clearing the growth, the cat-woman growls unhappily at the choice she faces. Reluctantly, she makes a swim for it.
Sheeba swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Cats definitely do not like water, however, and she is very unpracticed at swimming. She continues to splash around in the middle of the channel, cursing profusely as she does so.
Seeing the crowd surging forwards to get at him, Kevin the turkey squawks, gobbles, and continues running! Not having the wits to pick his way carefully across the roof, the turkey unknowingly trusts himself to Desna.
Note that Kevin's fly speed is only 10, so he gets a +10 for flying, but has a -4 for speed, for a total of +6 where his flying can help him.
Kevin reflex save: 1d20 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 6 = 25
The turkey sees the chute and rushes through it, not even realising he could easily fly over it and land safely on the ground.
Kevin escape artist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
He lands safely and continues his run! You're up. Let me know if you need still help with how to do your actions.

Miro Ammars |
Miro removes his armor and shield, lightening his load before he lines up with the others. He gets into a runner's stance, knowing he is the longshot with his short legs and stature. He grins...perhaps he could play spoiler, if nothing else.
He starts off sprinting, attempting to use his decreased weight to clear the hedge.
Jump!: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Edit: Miro then faces the channel with a dubious frown, thinking that the swim will be less of a detriment than trying to power through the muck.
Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
As I understand it, a participant can attempt to move three cards by taking a full-round action and attempting to both obstiacles on the first card. Ibid will try this. Just let me know if I did this wrong, or need to do anything else. How fun!
"Kevin is mine!" shouts Ibid as he sprints with the moving crowd of participants. At the hedgerow, the old man musters all the inner strength and dexterity he can and attempts to bound up and over the thorns and thistles,
Hedgerow: DC 15 Acrobatics check
acrobatics(DC15): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Hedgerow: DC 10 Climb check
climb(DC15): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
In case I did the first card wrong, I will go ahead and roll a swim check for the Muddy Channel obstacle.
At the muddle channel, the old man dives head first into the dark, murky waters, determined to catch that turkey.
Muddy Channel: DC 10 Swim check
swim(DC 10): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Cyrus the Flea |
Cyrus blushes at the innuendo from Sheeba, vivid memories racing through his mind. He winks at the catwoman, "Loser cooks... dessert... next time?" he says with a sly smile.
As soon as Dave releases the crowd, he darts forward, hot on the heels of the sultry waitress. The oiled fur is almost a distraction as he watches her lithe form leap easily over the hedgerow.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 "C'mon now love, they are making this too easy for us!"
Cyrus does not hesitate the way Sheeba does however at the prospect of water, and dives in headfirst to cross the channel.
Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 With another wink he shouts to the sputtering feline from the other shore, "I'm shocked Sheeba! I thought you liked it dirty..." and with that he darts for the building he had just seen the turkey on.
Hardly noticing until approaching the building, he sees Ibid matching him stride for stride. "Be careful, didn't you just get a new hip? I would hate to see you blow it out before breaking it in properly!"
Cyrus the Flea |
this... is.... AWESOME!!!!
Ibid's post will be up shortly.
+1
GM Damo |
Miro, Ibid and Cyrus all easily outpace the flustered catwoman, as they rush towards the fleet-of-foot-and-wing Kevin.
Several other participants are also pulling themselves out of the mud at the end of the channel, but none are so far ahead as the agile Ibid, who is currently deciding whether to traverse the rooftop or head down that secret passageway he ran into just before in his haste... (yep, Ibid, you passed 3 cards, so you need to decide which way to go next!).

"I obey your strange customs, and wrestle with turkey" Amaranti says and starts running after the ugly bird.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 1 = 3
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 1 = 19
However, his first try on dashing over the hedgerow fails miserably, and the Garundi bounces back from the lush vegetation. For his second attempt he manages time his jump correctly, and flies over the obstacle.
Kaisharga |
Don't forget Kaisharga!
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
With it's recent diet of rotten-but-walking hominids, Kaisharga can't help but stare at the turkey. Hungry glare in it's eyes, it lick it's lips and slithers on the starting point. If Kevin is to be unharmed, maybe someone else should grab the bird first.
Once they have a "GO", the eidolon climbs effortlessly over the hedgerow, barely noticing the thorns.
Climb, take ten: 10 + 15 - 2 = 23
Swim: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 2 = 16
Roasted or not, the scent of the turkey pulls Kaisharga forwards. The muddy channel does not slow it down, as it swims across closer to its prey.
2 NL damage
GM Damo |
Sorry for forgetting Kaisharga! I didn't really know if you'd be taking your eidolon to the pub or not - but of course you do, it's your buddy and deserves its Turkey Day feast.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Start with round 2 and Sheeba and Kevin will catch up when I have my laptop on me.

Happy thanksgiving!
Cyrus the Flea |
Happy Thanksgiving! Among the gigantic, impossible-to-assemble-because-it-is-so-long LIST of things I am thankful for, I include this group. Because you all make this game even more fun, which I didn't think was possible.
Just as he thought he was about to leave Ibid in the dust, he sees the old man rocket past him.
How did he do that? Time to turn it up a notch...
Cyrus digs down to that inner place of strength inside him, and summons the power of his nick-name-sake.
Attempting both checks on the card, in order, to try to move ahead 3 cards. Will spend a ki point to give my acrobatics check +20.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 20 = 47 FORTY SEVEN!!!!
Cyrus narrows his eyes, looking for an advantage that no one else would see. Approaching the pole to the roof, he has an idea. Leaping into the air, he does a flip in order to bring his feet down with more force. They land perfectly in the center of the angled pole, deflecting it down, much further than it was intended for.
Oh boy, I might have bit off more than I can cheeeeeeeeeeeee...
His legs launch like coiled springs, and the now rebounding pole gives him much more lift than he bargained for. Flying through the air, he completely clears the building, hitting the chute with his feet on the way down to gracefully land at the bottom, staring at the grabbing vines, and now much closer to Kevin.
...eeeeew! "WOAH! What a rush! It's time for some turkey wrestling!"
Obviously can't try to grapple Kevin yet, as that was a full round action and he hasn't gone yet. But if he fails.... Its turkey time next round!
Sheeba |
Sheeba, thoroughly soaked and utterly unhappy, attempts to swim again through the muck.
Sheeba swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Rejoicing to be free of the mud, the catwoman gets to the pole leading up the roof at the same time as the ninja. Eschewing the crowded way, her keen eyes search for a shortcut.
Sheeba acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Finding it, Sheeba slips stealthily into the shadows and onto the crowded street.
GM Damo |
Kevin the turkey sees the amazing leaping ninja land nimbly in front of him and panics. The mutated bird runs as fast as he can through the ropey vegetation, becoming almost immediately tangled.
Kevin break grapple maneuver: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
The embattled turkey snaps the vines surrounding him and dashes forwards to the hurdle. Being so small, he ducks his abnormally large head and rushes under it.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Alas for poor Kevin, he is much larger than he is used to being and the turkey is rebuffed by the base of the hurdle.
Wow, what a way to go, couldn't even make it under a hurdle! All I needed was a 2!!!
Those who haven't yet acted can do 2 turns at once. Round 1 folk get 1 turn. We'll see how we go today with all the turkeyness about round 3... probably tonight.

Miro takes a moment, then steadily walks out on the pole on the roof, quickly traipsing across with little difficulty due to his good balance and small size.
Take 10 for a 20 on Acrobatics
After reaching the rooftop, his perceptive notice a shortcut to the side, and he slides down into the shadowy alleyway beneath the rooftop, hoping he has gained some time by blindly following this path.
Take 10 for a 17 on Perception.
Can we take 10? Seems kind of cheap...anyways, if I do both obstacles on this card, I can move three cards, right? So I should be on the square with the turkey, right?
GM Damo |
No taking 10! There's way too much action for those kinda shenanigans. It's not combat, but certainly counts as distracting enough to be unable to take 10.
If you do both obstacles, you're correct. However, you need to roll! ;-)
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Again, Ibid will attempt both obstacles on the "pole to the roof" card, and attempt to catch up to Kevin.
That bird is mine!
The old man watches Cyrus bound some unthinkable, incredible distance and thinks to himself, Time to push it, old man. That young show-off is about to catch Kevin! As he is lost in thought, the suave and smooth halfling, with his dulcet tones, speeds after the bird, as well.
"Kevin!" Ibid exclaims out of fear that someone will claim the foul.
So long as the gauntlet has been thrown, and we're using special abilities to catch Kevin! *cough*...*Cyrus*.... Ibid will burn two uses of Inspiration to get an additional 1d6 on each roll.
DC 15 Perception check
perception(DC 15): 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (3) = 18
DC 15 Acrobatics
acrobatics(DC 15): 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 9 + (6) = 17
I don't know where this puts me, with Kevin? Or with Cyrus? I'll just leave my token where I started, and maybe you can help me, GM Damo :)
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
GM Damo, let me know if I did that roll incorrectly. Should I have done the action I described above. Or, should I have picked one of the two paths, i.e. to traverse the rooftops, and then rolled both checks for that card?
I feel so dumb that I don't quite understand how this works... :)
Gunari Maximoff |
Gunari just sits back, drinking with Sirena, enjoying the show. One way or another, he is sure that he will get his turkey.
GM Damo |
Ibid: Map updated, puts you up next to Kevin the Turkey!
All: With contestants closing in, initiative counts now, so... Round 3! Please only post if you're acting before Sheeba and Kevin:
Next up: Kaisharga (2 rounds to play), Ibid (1 round to play), Finarin (3 rounds to play), Miro (2 rounds to play - 1.5, just roll for your "take 10"s above), Amaranti (1 round to play).

Ibid, closing in on Kevin, reaches wide and dives for the foul.
grapple attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Skidding to a stop on his chest, the old man fails to grab the wily turkey... Kevin narrowly slipping through Ibid's fingers!
Miro Ammars |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Law of Averages, here I come!
Miro Ammars |
Seeing Ibid encroaching on his Turkey, he leaps forward, attempting to grab Kevin and be the underdog who won it all!
Grapple: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Kaisharga |
Seeing the others already gaining up on Kevin, Kaisharga pushes itself harder.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 2 = 5
But in its haste, it merely get stuck on the pole, not able to move forth or back.
GM Damo |
Miro manages to get ahold of the amazingly strong and wriggly mutant turkey.
Kevin break free from grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Kevin escape artist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Kevin bursts free from the halfling's clutches and rushes under the hurdle, remembering to duck this time.
By the way, as a full-round action you can try to grab Kevin off anyone who is grappling him! First try to grapple Kevin (CMD -2 from dex penalty while he's grappled) and then you need to make a disarm check against the person who has him (CMD also -2 due to dex penalty while grappling) to wrestle him free.
Sheeba |
Seeing her customers all take short-cuts, Sheeba also attempts to take a short-cut, going a different way through the crowd (the thicker part) to hopefully end up just beyond the hurdle.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Overrun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Managing to bully the crowd enough to get past, she leaps over the heads of the passers-by and lands next to Kevin just as he makes his escape and runs under the hurdle. She grins broadly back at Ibid and Miro. The game is still on!
**EDIT** In my original post, I forgot how to count to 3.

Time to get ahead of this... turkey...
Cyrus grits his teeth as he approaches the grabbing vines. He knew he needed to do something to turn this contest around. It was time to use the course to his advantage again.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Grapple, Break Free: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Uh Oh....
Cyrus tip toes into the vine area, and gets another hair brained idea. noting the success of his last acrobatic feat, he grabs a few of the unsuspecting vines, and begins to run, pulling on them. Just as he was about to use them to slingshot forward, they grab and grip around his waist and legs, spoiling his momentum. He manages to push through and finds himself in front of the hurdle.
Edit: " if a character fails either obstacle check by 5 or less, he only moves one card forward and his turn ends."

Okay, let's kick off Round 4!!
The companions and Sheeba have now become the only contestants who have a hope of succeeding. Even though no-one has seen Finarin, they're sure he's making it through the course somewhere.
Next up: Finarin (4 rounds!!!), Amaranti (2 rounds), Kaisharga (1 round), Ibid (1 round).
Miro, you'll have to wait for Ibid, since you're both in grapple range, it's important who goes first.

Miro Ammars |
Miro continues to pump his stubby little legs, leaping over the hurdle in front of him.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Am holding my 'standard' until Ibid goes.
Cyrus the Flea |
"I'm never going to catch up..." Cyrus mutters to himself. "Gotta find a different way..."
Realizing he needs to get in front of this wild turkey chase, he sees another opportunity provided by the hurdle. Dashing forward, he slips underneath, grabbing on and spinning around like a varisian gymnast, and launching himself into the air once again, landing out in front of the pack, back at the grand lodge and the starting line he left only moments ago.
Spending a ki point again, only 1 left after this...
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 20 = 33
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Is that a 2?!?! Good thing I did... that would have been awkward...
Amaranti |
Amaranti round 2: Muddy channel - moving three cards
Swim: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 1 = 11
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Amaranti speeds up as well, arms flay wide as he half swims, half runs through the channel.
Amaranti round 3: Darkened alleyway
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
After bouncing a while in the dark, Amaranti manages to ask help from an old lady who escorts the Garundi forwards.
Amaranti round 3: Grabbing vines
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
The vines try to grab Amaranti, but they are no match for the Garundi. Laughing he strides forwards.
