After the statue and the trap, I don't blame you for checking! This is actually what it appears, a dead snake.
After the party has taken a moment and prepared themselves, Flyn takes a look into the next room then waves you forward. The next room stinks. STINKS! It appears like it is a combination of the dungeon garbage disposal and toilet. As you step through it, gingerly, you do find something of worth! Under some unmentionables is the body of a wizard, partially decayed. Luurg, unafraid of ripe smells, reaches down and pulls a particularly shiny amulet off the man's neck.
Spellcraft, DC 25 :
Amulet of Elemental Vengeance (combines the abilities of an Amulet of Elemental Strife with a Necklace of Fireballs with four spheres [4d6 fire damage each] remaining)
Peeking into the next rooms, Flyn sees more garbage to the North, seemingly another refuse pile, and a steam bath to the East. A gargantuan square pool, twenty feet wide and four feet deep, occupies most of this chamber. The steaming water releases a pungent odor, different from the sickening odor from the other pool.

Ethan takes up the object and rolls it around in his hand as the group creep onwards. After a little whole he unlocks its secrets.
Hmm, curious, this item combines the effects of two other times, a necklace of fireballs ad also elemental strife. It could come in useful. Why don't you keep hold of it Luurg, you seem pretty good at chucking stuff at people.
Ethan can identify any magic item with one minute of checking it out with the object reading ability.
Reaching the garbage room he pulls up short, by all the gods!
Flyn... You could practically walk through an open square with that level of Stealth...
Flyn sneaks along the corridor, hearing Orc voices up ahead. There is a loud, gruff male voice who appears to be insulting a male and female orc. Lying on his stomach, he crawls up the stairs. Peeking above, he sees a female orc leaning against the wall, looking into the room beyond his vision. She has a shortbow and a large axe on her person. He sneaks back to the party and explains what he saw and heard.
Flyn nods to Ethan. If the rest of the party is agreed, we will proceed as before. Flyn will sneak back to his vantage point and fire at the female Orc with the shortbow when everyone is ready...

Luurg puts the new amulet around his neck, dangling there with a string of partially dried plums, apricots and apples. He then draws his spear back out and hunkers down with his long arms waiting for the sounds of battle. Dat guy sure is sneaky! I should learn to be so sneaky!
The group moves up into the next rubbish room. Ethan stays in the doorway, afraid his armor would give him away. Meanwhile, Flyndyngylyn moves forward, silent as a shadow. He stands up, arrow peeking up above the top stair. With a whoosh, he lets it go, sending it into the female orc's stomach. She grunts in surprise, then looks at the guilty elf with pure hatred.

Narayan swiftly moves down the corridor striking a dramatic pose while shielding Flyndyngylyn.
As Sparkle-weave and her faithful dragon catch up with Flyn, Narayan steps forward, putting himself in the way of his archer companion. The larger orc in the back, clearly the leader, laughs in response to Narayan's invitation. "This is our find, lizardman. Begone!" He waves his minions forward. "Skyt ham!"
Orc:
"Shoot him!"
The two Orcs draw their bows and unleash fiery arrows on the brave Nagaji. "Ja, herregud!"
The arrows fly true, but all three bounce off Narayan's layers of protections. The boss' face grows red and he roars in rage. "Du er ikke sterkere enn Groblek!" The man charges at Narayan, swinging one head of his double axe overhanded.
His axe slides down Narayan's armor, into the small opening between his shoulder and neck. The axe pulls out bloody, and the orc grins savagely.

Narayan continues to beat the orc, bruises blossoming across his skin. None of the attacks draw blood, but they cause pain just the same. The orc grunts but does not cry out. As his body hits the floor, bleeding from Ethan's heavy blade, the small elemental swings and hits the wall by the remaining orc.
Luurg enters the picture, his long arms swinging. His spear pierces the armor of the Blinded guard, before Narayan falls upon her with a hail of blows. When he pulls back, she falls to the floor, bleeding from the mouth.
COMBAT OVER
After a few moments to catch your breath, you search the bodies and find several magical bows, flaming arrows, tanglefoot bags and a couple healing potions. Afterwards, you check the room. Soft glowing light comes from a katana that is secured on the wall by pitons above a carefully constructed cairn. It has been snapped in half, leaving only the lower portion useful.
Spellcraft, DC 18:
The katana is a +1 holy katana with the broken condition.
The cairn contains the skeleton of an elf. Any shroud or clothes have long disappeared, rotted away.
Knowledge (Local or Religion), DC 18:
Shizuran tradition is to cremate the body on a pyre under the midday sun, then distribute the ashes to the deceased’s descendants.
Similarly, Lastwall’s tradition is to cremate the entire body save the skull, which is etched with the name and dates of birth and death then placed in The Ossuaries of the Fallen in Vigil.

Ethan spends a minute looking over the blade. his weapon is a holy blade, although currently broken. I suspect there is a story behind it...
He looks over the skeleton. This could be one of their elves pictured in the poem. Their customs were to cremate their bodies at midday and disperse their ashes to their descendants. However, they fought with Lastwwall, who cremate their dead save the skull which is interred in Vigil and marked with their name, date of birth and death.
Ethan can identify any item with a minute of handling and, if it has any historical significance, he learns one piece of information about its past. He takes 10 on religion for 21
After finishing up he reactivates his wand of heightened awareness.
Flyn nods his head in silence at Ethan's words...he eyes the skeletal remains as well as the blade...
"This must be the samurai warrior mentioned in Fustbickle's poem...and this must be the blade she used to slay the Orc chieftain Slarg as she battled the army of the lich lord, the Whispering Tyrant..."
Flyn bows deeply to the samurai's remains...
"I recall the poem mentioned she was slain treacherously...and she obviously was denied her own death ritual...we must correct that. We must take her remains when we're through, and burn them as prescribed...and then return the ashes to her descendants...and her blade as well..."

Narayan certainly wouldn't describe himself as anything special or unique. He simply tries to make the world a better place for its people, and there are many others who tend that path as well.
Mechanically speaking, he's a fairly straightforward hammer, though he has a few paladinesque tricks, and since he uses Charisma rather than Wisdom for his monk abilities, a sampling of UMD based utility.

Alright, everybody is checked in! Let's talk dungeons. In case you didn't know, this scenario is a traditional dungeon crawler. Dungeons can be very fun, or very slow in PbP. So, we are going to set up a few standard operating procedures to speed up the slow parts!
First: Hallways. Where do you want to be in the party order? On Slide 3 is an example hallway. Please place yourselves on that hallway in a pre-agreed upon order. Discussion encouraged.
Second: Forks. If a hallway splits up into three corridors, which one do you go down? Always the left one? Always the one which looks most recently inhabited? Perhaps the opposite? Give me some standard choice, so we don't spend a day debating whether to turn right or left.
Third: Doors. Who is going to check for traps? (Can be multiple people) Do you touch things when you look for traps? Or just look? Is someone going to cast detect magic on every door? Are there any skills or spells you want to use before every door?
Fourth: Light. Dungeons are dark. Who is going to be providing light to the party?
Finally, if you want to get tricky and do any stealthing or scouting into the next room, let me know before we resolve the current room. Otherwise, I will whisk you down a hallway, past the boring empty rooms and into the next room with something interesting. (Using your standard Choices and Door methods.)
Any questions about any of those policies? If not, please discuss how you would like to go about exploring this dungeon!

Luurg is a tanky, survival build. He is a bit lower level for this I think though at level 5. If we've got some other good front liners then I don't have a problem dropping back a bit. He's got a decent perception and has disable device. No magic detection ability. Doesn't use light as he's got darkvision.
I'm flexible on how we decide to explore, usually its always take the left branch but those other options make sense too.
Luurg will always check for traps, but can't find magical ones.
Luurg is not stealthy, if only he had it as a class skill!

Favoriting to steal this for the next dungeon crawl I run!
1)My preference is for Narayan to be on the frontlines, though rank 2 can be okay if its particularly important to other folk.
2)I'm good for whatever has the most recent signs of creatures.
3)Narayan is no good for such things, but if we have people who will be spending time doing so, he will detect evil to help out as best he can.
4) Narayan typically walks around dark dungeons with his wayfinder illuminated - so he'll be one source of light
1. As for Hallways, I'm guessing Flyn will be scouting a decent bit (+12 Perception) so he probably needs to be at the front, using Stealth when he can (+18)...
2. While I'm open to whatever the group decides, might be more efficient if we work from the outside in...take the forks that lead towards the edges of the dungeon and work ourselves around and in...unless of course if we see signs/tracks of other creatures...
3. For doors, Flyn can check for traps and attempt to pick locks/ disable traps when found (Disable Device +14)...once opened though he prefers to hang back at the entrance and provide cover with his bow for the front liners. Flyn's journeyed with Narayan once before and we worked pretty well this way, if I recall correctly...
4. Flyn has a Wayfinder for light, if/when needed...
Flyn prefers to travel stealthy when possible and when appropriate...but I'll try to mention that before resolving the current room...like the idea of being whisked past empty hallways and boring rooms...

Neither Sparkle Weave nor her eidolon have any interest in being in front, is nice to keep them next to each other though.
Both Sparkle-Weave and Orin only have low-light so Sparkle Weave will generally be providing light through her wayfinder.
Orin does have a high perception (+21) and is generally nosy enough to at least want to give exciting looking doors a once over while flying by, although is too cowardly to stay put or do anything with opening them.
First: Pigglevitch has 15 foot move speed thanks to his full plate armor and being smol. Because he prefers to be able to charge then go to town with full attacks (being a TWF guy with a ladder) he would prefer to either be in front, or ride on the back of someone in front (dignity, what's that?)
Second: I'm with Flyn. Take the routes that run adjacent to the outside of the building, make our way inward. If a fork leads both of these ways, left is fine by me.
Third: Pigglevitch and his massive +2 perception will attempt to find traps, find no traps, and then likely take a trap to the face (or to the guy behind him because smol.) He'll look, but he'll defer to the rest of the party before trying to touch any doors.
Fourth: Light spell as a cantrip.
Finally: Not the stealthy guy, but does have a +6. That's not bad. Probably still won't stealth.

First: Hallways. Where do you want to be in the party order?
Ethan is moderately tanky in full plate and also uses a reach weapon with combat reflexes. He would prefer to be up in front to take advantage of that but second rank is also fine. He is also only level 5 so will be making regular use of his shield wand.
Second: Forks. If a hallway splits up into three corridors, which one do you go down? Always the left one? Always the one which looks most recently inhabited? Perhaps the opposite?
I agree with the suggestion that we head towards the edges where possible and work our way in.
Third: Doors. Who is going to check for traps? (Can be multiple people) Do you touch things when you look for traps? Or just look? Is someone going to cast detect magic on every door? Are there any skills or spells you want to use before every door?
If Ethan is up front he will always check for traps, with +11 perception, +13 with heightened awareness. He generally takes 10 where possible.
Fourth: Light. Dungeons are dark. Who is going to be providing light to the party?
Ethan will be casting darkvision before we head in but he also has a wayfinder if necessary.
Finally, if you want to get tricky and do any stealthing or scouting into the next room, let me know before we resolve the current room. Otherwise, I will whisk you down a hallway, past the boring empty rooms and into the next room with something interesting. (Using your standard Choices and Door methods.)
Ethan doesn't scout, his stealth is -3. He can automatically identify items but each item takes a minute of handling. He will always look to activate his wand of shield before entering a new area as well as his wand of heightened awareness. He always expends heightened awareness when initiative is rolled for an extra +4.
Thanks for answering those questions, I will compile them in a day or two...
Meanwhile, a couple people mentioned this, but i need some more details. Please post on whether you have played/ran this scenario before and what arc(s) you followed. (You can see this on your chronicle(s), it is either Bones, Scales, Scoundrels or Tusks)

I have played this 6 times so far, I've played each of the different arcs at least once. The details are somewhat fuzzy to me although the thing I most remember having encountered several times are the fuzzy plant spore ball thingies.
Despite having fought them 3 times I haven't been in a party that's successfully IDed them so I don't know what they are called.
Currently in the finishing stages of it with a lower tier character. Don't know it's designation yet...but do know it's in Ustalav and involves Raiders...

Just checking but I think we are high tier with no adjustment? Is that right? If so Ethan will probably consider discretion the better part of valour and take the second rank as a squishier level 5 character.
Ethan, you are correct. Our APL is 5.8, so we'll play the 5-7 tier.
1. Sounds like the order on the slides is correct, with Flyn scouting ahead if possible.
2. Looks like running around the outside, along the left side is the standard path we'll be taking.
3. Everyone will look, but not touch, for traps with Flyn being the trap disabler and Piggle being the trap tank. Also, there will be a Detect Evil coming from Narayan.
4. We have plenty of light coming from Wayfinders and Cantrips. Flyn may run into some issues while scouting if he doesn't have his Wayfinder on. We'll deal with that when we get there, though.
Finally, I am finishing prepping the scenario today! I am avoiding Raiders, Bones and Ustalav to try and get as new of a feel as possible. I should have the intro post up tomorrow or later today.
Hey GM, one thing I forgot to note. As an Infiltrator (Ranger), the ability from my Favored Enemy I chose to emulate was Darkvision (60'). I can activate this 30 minutes a day (in 10 minute increments)...when scouting ahead, I'll be using this as opposed to a light source, when appropriate...

If we end up bereft of light sources, I'd certainly appreciate Darkvision
By the way, I live on the Pacific Coast. I tend to post once in the morning and once in the afternoon/evening. Unless something bad happens, I will always make a major update post and will usually make a small update post.
The player expectation is 1 post every day, but I find a small GM update mid-day usually helps keep everything on track.
Feel free to move your tokens into the place you want to be before you move into a room with enemies. Like, setting up for an ambush, or before you go through a door. Also, if you want to move the fog of war, when applicable that is totally ok!

Haha. Luurg is very nice and friendly, especially for an Orc. His odd speech is mostly due to Common being a second language. He's actually pretty damn smart! But yes... he only eats fruit. The secret to his otherworldly good health!
