Ranar "The Risen" |
While I appreciate the offer Mage Armor will not be beneficial for my either and I also plan to fly. I will also purchase a Handy Haversack before we begin so I can free up an extract slot.
Ranar scuffs his foot at the spot she indicates attempting to judge the approximate makeup of the ground.
"If any are able, a periodic casting of Detect Evil or Detect Magic may give us a rough idea of depth or may tell us nothing. So, If we are able to sense the auras, then we would know the material covering the shrine is less then a certain depth. However, if the shrine radiates neither of these auras then we will continue on blindly."
Ranar "The Risen" |
"If we have any effects that last several hours, now may be the time to use them. I however, will wait until we labor for at least a while since my magics are not as long lasting as some others."
Zahra Senay |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |
Rather than risk her pretty manicure, Zahra summons her invisible servant in to help with the digging and hauling of dirt buckets. Then she gets out of the way so her stronger companions can do the heavy lifting.
Omar Senay |
Omar sets aside his Glaive and picks up a shovel. Good thing my wife can clean me up after this. Looks like it is going to be dirty work.
Looking to Ranar, Omar says "Detect Evil would have been a good idea. The haunt should certainly radiate evil. I wish I had thought of it."
To the group, he states "After digging a few feet down, we should have a good idea of how difficult it will be. If anyone hits rock, please do call out immediately."
Looking towards Zeeva, he asks "Do you know if this area has been dug up before? I imagine if it were less than a couple of feet down, someone would have noticed."
Dig a shallow pit, a couple of feet deep, so we have an idea of how long it takes. I would guess the shrine is most likely between 3' and 8' down.
Ninya Couteau |
That morning, Ninya has given to Ranar a few alchemical items that might come in handy: Thunderstone, Tanglefoot bag, Flash powder, and her CSW potion (she also requested that he only use the CSW only against a Haunt). Thanks Zahra for the feather step. She's probably ok without the Mage armor.
Ninya assists in digging though is not excited about this activity. Hand on hip near the hole, "I definitely am not being paid well enough to be doing manual labor."
Vorel Mas |

Vorel will grab a shovel and begin digging. "Nothing like digging a trench on a blood-soaked battlefield, moments away from the next howler horde about to descend on our position"
Ranar "The Risen" |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |
Standing uncomfortably close to Vorel with his hands in his pockets, Ranar will speak at length about proper shoveling techniques and extol the virtues of proper body mechanics in relation to chronic shoveling injuries. The lecture if uninterrupted will carry on for at least several minutes.
"...and to conclude my dear Vorel, always lift with your legs. Remember the back you save may be your own."
Tikaketsu "Tika" |

Tika will grab a shovel and start to dig as well. "I've never had to go digging during an adventure! Manuk come help!" She signals toward Manuk to have him come and help out.

Seeing Tika joining the rest of her companions in digging, he starts to claw at the ground.
"Baaaaaswwaakkkk'
GM "The Fox" |
After 2d2 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 hours of digging, you unearth a stone altar five feet down.
If you were using wands of mage armor mark off the appropriate number of charges.
I have updated the map.
Omar Senay |

"This looks like what we were looking for!" Omar happily proclaims as the stone comes into view.
Setting the shovel to the side, he gets out of the hole and says "Now is a probably a good time to use some of our protective spells."
Having said that, he moves over to Tika and casts a spell on her.
Protection from energy: Fire, caster level 7.
"Who shall I put the death ward on?"
Ninya Couteau |
Ninya has her wand of invisibility at the ready for whenever something happens. And her mutagen.
Is there a lid that needs to be opened? Or a lever or switch that needs to be activated? Or an obvious spot to lay out the seven klars?
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
GM "The Fox" |
You can probably just lay out the klars on the top of the stone slab.
Ninya Couteau |
After the protective spell casting is over, Ninya somewhat impatiently asks, "Well, before our spells wear off, should I cast Shield and Invisibility on myself and then get in that hole to set up the klars?
Omar Senay |
While waiting for an answer to his question, Omar casts a couple of spells on himself.
Protection from Energy: Fire followed by Barkskin.
Ninya Couteau |
Ninya has plenty of prestige so doesn't need death ward, thanks
"Especially after working on this job," she looks with disdain at her dirtied hands, "I should have more than sufficient standing with the Pathfinders that they definitely should pay for any raising fees you might incur on my behalf."
Zahra Senay |
UMD: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
UMD: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Zahra gets one feather step cast on Manuk before regretfully putting away the wand for the day. "Bah! So much for the entangle!" She then hits everyone in the group who wants it with mage armor and protection from evil and casts Shield and Mirror Image upon herself and Pumpkin.
Mirror Images, Zahra: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Mirror Images, Pumpkin: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Ninya Couteau |
"thanks for the protection from evil, that with my armor with a cast of Shield from my own wand should be enough, if armor even matters against this Shoanti spirit."
"Does anybody want Invisibilty cast upon them before we do this?"
Ninya has Invisibilty and Shield wands that she's happy to use on others if they'd like
Vorel Mas |
Vorel, drawing his Rod of Extend and use it and cast See Invisibility so it now lasts for 160 minutes or 2 hours and 4 minutes. He'll keep the rod out, leaving his bow sheathed for now.
"Awful lot of buffing, might not even be a threat to face"
Tikaketsu "Tika" |
Tika and Manuk accept the buffs graciously.
"Thanks! I hope the spirit guy doesn't try to burn Manuk though!"
GM "The Fox" |
...I'm still following. Last call for buffs...
Who is placing the klars on the altar? Arrange yourselves on the map as you want.
Ninya Couteau |
"Should I place the klars? Or is someone else interested in the honor? I venture that the Pathfinders are paying us the same either way..."
Omar Senay |
Omar considers again what Telmayne had said about Galdron and restoring his shrine. He then nods to Ninya and says "Proceed."
While she is climbing down to place the ceremonial Klars, he cast shield on himself and retrieves his glaive.
No one seems to want the Death Ward, so I'll hold it. Ready to go.
Ninya Couteau |
Ninya drinks her mutagen, applies Bless Weapon oil on her menacing starknife, slides on her Stalker's Mask, and then uses her wand of Invisibility followed by her wand of Shield. She takes a deep breath and climbs down into the pit.
this better be impressive, otherwise I'll be looking foolish for being this cautious...
Those watching see the broken klars appear one at a time atop the altar. Glancing up to make sure Zeeva isn't nearby as she places the last klar, Ninya makes an under-her-breath remark, "Hope we can talk some sense into this Horser."
GM "The Fox" |
Ninya places the seven klars upon the altar, arranged in a seven-pointed star, as she was instructed by Telmayne Fire-Eyes.
Suddenly, you are all overcome with dizziness as the world seems to melt away. Your bodies begin to blink back and forth between ephemera and substance—or maybe it is the world that is blinking. Regardless, you find yourselves in a strange land.
In a small clearing of sparse trees stands a solitary table of stone before a pool of clear water. A simple camp with a smoldering campfire and a large tent made from animal skins and wooden poles has been set up to the east. Superimposed over the idyllic landscape is a gray, ghostly image of the Green Market—its wagons, carts, and stalls seemingly untouched from a moment before. This image fades to mist approximately sixty feet away, revealing a great battle being fought farther in the distance on all sides.
You can see Zeeva stare in amazement at you, though she seems to look through you.
A voice speaks to you in a booming voice that resonates strangely in the hollow space of your current reality. “I was never a pacifist,” he intones. “My belief was merely that the way forward for my people was unity. The Azghat divided us in the time before memory, but the world had moved on. Every quah could maintain its honor, but without the need to divide the people against itself. So I renounced the powers of the sun and the flame, to walk the green path—to become the Green Heart.”
“I was such a fool,” Galdron snarls as he appears floating between you and the camp. The ghost is of a bald male, garbed in hide armor and holding a short spear in hand. A corona of fire sheathes his head and rises from his eyes. Molten gold drips from where a spearhead and shaft protrude from his chest, revealing the wound that took his life.
Behind the spirit are two eternally loyal fire elementals that attack with the ghost.
I will roll Initiative in the next post.
GM "The Fox" |
While you are on the Ethereal Plane, you can interact with other ethereal and incorporeal creatures as if they were material—i.e., you don't need ghost touch to attack them.

For those of you who cast rounds/level buffs, tick off 3 rounds. That was a couple of rounds for Ninya placing the klars, and 1 more round for the planar shift.
Vorel Mas |
During the Surprise Round, Vorel will use his Rod of Extend to Cast an Extended Haste on the whole group, he can get up to 8 people and we have 8 creatures, and then drop the Rod as a free action. I really hope this scenario doesn't punish me for dropping things while on the ethereal plane
The haste will last for 16 rounds, hopefully more than enough time to complete this encounter!

I really hope this scenario doesn't punish me for dropping things while on the ethereal plane.
Vorel drops his rod of extend and it seems to fade into the same muted gray of the Material Plane.
If you drop something here it will return to the Material Plane.
The upside is that you won't lose the item; the downside is that if you drop something you can't use it again in this encounter.

Zahra's move:
1) With acrobatics, she tumbles diagonally (SW) 1 square behind Pumpkin
2) Continues to tumble 1 square W to get out of AoO range
3) Moves normally diagonally 1 square SW
4) Travels normally 4 squares straight S, into the middle of the produce stand.
Can someone move me, please?
Assuming her tumble is successful:

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
GM "The Fox" |
@ Zahra: Combat Reflexes, yes. They have 15-ft. reach, so you tumbled a little farther before moving at regular speed. It is a good thing haste is up. However, your Acrobatics was not nearly high enough.
The black elemental takes a swing at Zahra as she moves away from it.
