Sorry for the drop off. I didn't really realize how much more time would be spent with relatives now that I have a spawn of my own. Everyone wants to see the child.

With everything settling there doesn't appear to be much more to explore in the house.

You can, but that just leads into the walls surrounding the entire district. You guys were rushing through the mansion to save your spell time so you didn't really stop to investigate anything...

Heading back downstairs you take a closer look at the rooms as you pass them. The main floor of the building has a stage, near where you fought the invisible stalker. Looking closer you realize several planks have been ripped up and only hastily replaced. Moving them aside you find a flight of stone steps leading down into darkness...

Marina levels her spear and peers into the darkness, looking for webs and traps before slowing taking the steps if it's safe.

Marina discovers no traps or webs, just a winding flight of stairs leading down into the ground.

Drips of seeping groundwater echo throughout this cavern. The frame and chains of a wooden windlass hang over a massive iron cover that caps a shaft in the cave floor.

Unplugging the shaft isn't difficult, it just takes some time to pull it up with the windlass and chains. When the cap that cover the shaft is unsealed, a wave of nausea flows throughout the chamber and a piercing psychic shriek howls from the shaft. I need a DC 20 Fortitude save from everyone.

Kontha is overwhelmed with vertigo and becomess nauseated. Nightmarish images swirl all around the cave: the dark expanse of space and the faint echoes of some conjuring call; a gutwrenching impact and visions of entire cities swept away by searing blasts; leering, chanting monks; fantastic, roiling landscapes; people gripped by madness as they gnaw their own bloody tongues; and, finally, a closing gate followed by darkness.

Looking down into the well all you see is a lead coffer, sitting empty and open...

One last place you haven't checked, and that's the elevator you guys passed by earlier.

Giving a more thorough examination of the area is difficult with the images swirling, but Dulomak pushes through and does his best. Unfortunately nothing else is found in this area.

In a last check in case, Marina detects magic in case there's something we might need to put back in that box.


Nothing magical about the disturbing box or the horrors it drives up the walls. Moving back to the elevator you see it is a hand operated device. Small chips of gold leaf cover the floor here, flaked off from the once-gilded gate of a cage-like elevator, which hangs over a dark shaft.

Can you go down unseen?


While the shaft itself is not lit, the elevator is exposed all the way down, nothing but saftey bars blocking the view of whomever is coming down or going up.
