"What was that?! What did you say!? What language is that? Do you know many words? Could you teach me? We're just walking so I'm sure we have time."
His feathers ruffled and eyes sparkling T'kk'tck trots out after Cutter trying to catch up and unload all the questions he has on the halfling.
If possible T'kk'tck will try and position himself where as many people are surrounding him as possible. A secondary consideration is how close can he get to Cutter so he can ask questions about the language.

Half an hour goes back smoothly for the sleepwalker and his chaperones, until Kalkamedes leads the group into a rocky hillside. The unconscious man appears to almost trip on some rocks before continuing with a slightly limping gait.
A Heal check is appropriate here if you want to check on Kalkamedes.

Cutter Wolfrider

Cutter good naturedly answers T'kk'tck's questions for a while to pass the time. "Halfling. My tribe lives very closely with the wolf pack, we raise and train our companion in our native tongue. If I understand correctly, your people have a knack for learning languages. I'm happy to teach you some to pass the miles."
| GM Harker |
T'kk'tck, did you get that total from the Paizo dice roller? In case you don't know how it works, you can click on the spoiler at the bottom of the posting window that says 'How to format your text'. In this case you'd would have wanted to type the following without the space between the / and dice. Example: [dice=Heal check]1d20+6[/ dice].

"The elf is right, he has hurt his limb and will flutter to the ground soon if not treated. Tk. Although if he goes lame, we could move at a much more pleasant pace. Tk. Tk. If someone held him down I could try and fix this but I'm really not entirely that good. Tk. I don't suppose we could very well carry him? This not fun. It is like watching a ... Tk. Tk. ...A... Tk. person hurt himself."
T'kk'tck finishes weakly and goes quiet and fidgets with his robes.
Quiella

Quiella takes the bracers and then walks outside when she sees the party's ward being released.
"Where are you from, tickety-tock?"

When Kalkamedes' injury is announced, Quiella quietly pulls out a wand and touches him with it.

Feel free to continue role-playing through encounters, I'm just trying to keep the game's momentum going.
Kalkamedes does not resist Quiella's healing, and immediately begins moving at a normal gait (for him) and continues on his blind journey no worse for wear.
Another hour passes steadily walking through the Varisian wilderness, and the sleepwalker begins to steadily approach the middle of a thick copse of thorns. If not stopped, he'll try to plow right through it. The obstruction is approximately 40' wide and 60' deep.
DC 18 Knowledge (nature) or Survival to identify the thorns more thoroughly.

"Where am I from? Well... Tk...17 generation ago...Tk."
T'kk'tck begins a long rambling story that could probably have been told better by Cutter's wolf. Anyone who with half a brain will know T'kk'tck is not telling the truth. In his story Tengu are always the heros and his family personally knows God's and kings.
"...Tk....and now I work at The Library as an unreplacable scribe of peerless skill."
This too rings of half truths. The library he describes is just one of many in absalom. And he is the definition of replaceable.

Quiella nods throughout Tick-Tock's story. At her first realization of the story's elaboration her face bears a crooked smirk, but she soon smooths it into polite attentiveness
"What a noble lineage you have, Mr. Clock!"

Quiella moves to block Kalkamedes' path. "If we form an impassable wall he will have to go around us."

Cutter listens amused to T'kk'tck's story, thinking of ways to embellish his own background...
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"I'll ride ahead and see if I can find a way to guide him around these thorns." Cutter says. He also shares whatever he knows about this hazard with the rest before riding forward.
I'm not sure if we are able to 'steer' Kalkamedes but if nothing else seems obvious, Cutter will use Nightrunner to block him and get him to move in the desired direction as Quiella also suggests.
| GM Harker |
Halkale is unfamiliar with this type of plant, but Cutter is able to identify it as a patch of razor bramble, a naturally growing weed capable of lacerating one’s legs.
Kalkamedes tries to step around anyone in his way, and although that will slow him from getting into the thorns, eventually he'll get into the dangerous area unless physically restrained.
Cutter rides ahead to see that if they could get Kalkamedes at least 45' to the left or right he'd be safe, but if he plows in there, he's got a good 60' of thorns to walk through. There does not appear to be any immediate dangers in the general area after the razor bramble, however.
Looking across the field of bramble, you detects signs that someone forced their way through this same patch of razor bramble less than a week or two ago.
As the party continues to block Kalkamedes progress, he takes a few swings into the air with his fists, as if a warning to let him go past.
I'm going to need some rolls soon (depending on what you want to do) to stop him from moving into the thorns.

Halkale points. "Someone came this way a week or two ago. Perhaps it was him? Halkale says.

Quiella doesn't budge when he tries to swing at her, but she does slide in front of him no matter which direction he goes. Does anyone have any other bright ideas before I have to tackle this guy? She puts her hands on her hips and wrinkles her face as she looks up at him.

Cutter and Nightrunner come around the right side of Kalkamedes and the halfling whispers something to the wolf and he begins to growl fiercely at the man.
Hoping the aggressive sounds drive him to the left...

Mel looks back and forth between the irresistible force and the immovable barrier with a helpless distress. Suddenly an idea strikes him from out of nowhere, "A rope!!!! We need a rope. I don't have a rope, does anyone else have a rope? Get a rope tied to him!" The next he says very quickly, as if to himself. If we can get one around him, we should be able to apply a force 90 degrees to his current direction of travel and shift him around the thorns. And since we are not decreasing his forward vector, he should not complain that we are trying to stop him. "Quick, get a rope on him and pull sideways. Ophelia, give him something to do with his hands so he doesn't untie the rope!"
Quiella
|
Hahahahaha...
Quiella cranes her neck and screws up her face as she glances at Mel. Even I know that all Pathfinders should carry some rope.
Melufiuos Benidictus
|
"It was too heavy and everyone else has one, so why bother....." He sighs to himself, we should have done this much sooner
OK boss, so how do we do this? Does he resist the rope? While tying it on, we can be careful to not impede his movement.... Feel free to roll for me as needed.
| GM Harker |
Kalkamedes is either oblivious or apathetic to Nightrunner's growling, as he merely tries to walk around the wolf.
If you want to tie Kalkamedes to a leash, someone will need to grapple him, while someone else ties the rope. Alternately, only one person can try to grapple and attach the rope, but they'll take a -10 to their CMD roll. The third option is to grapple, then pin, then attach the rope.
Since there is several ways to do this, it may require two people, and Kalkamedes will probably resist, I'll let you guys work it out and make the rolls.
Quiella
|
I would think you could probably aid both under these circumstances? Tying someone up doesn't involve a check actually. I think you just auto-succeed and then the DC for Escaping is your CMD. But as we are just making a leash I don't even know if he'll try to escape.
Quiella gets a running start and tackles Kalkamedes.
Grapple: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
-Posted with Wayfinder
| GM Harker |
Normally, you have to have him pinned to attach a rope, but I am allowing a second person to attach the rope to his waist if he's just grappled to speed things up.
Finding his progress suddenly impeded, Kalkamedes directs a punch towards the small person who just grappled him. He hits poor Quiella hard in the face. Quiella takes 3 bludgeoning damage, Kalkamedes has Improved Unarmed Strike I'm afraid. Since he's grappled, I did apply a -2 to his roll. I believe that grappling requires both hands, so I did not include Quiella's buckler bonus to her AC.
While so distracted, however, Halkale is able to wrap his rope around the man's center and tie it strongly.
Improved Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

"Nice work team!" Cutter says clapping from wolfback.

Oh, with the Glaive I'm planning on not wearing the buckler most of the time anyway, so it was moot from my perspective.

if we pull sideways, maybe his walk will change from straight ahead to a diagonal. If that works and we pull hard enough, then maybe we can get him far enough to the side that he misses them.

Cutter and Nightrunner can lead him with the rope on a safe path. Pulling him as required if he's going to be stubborn.
| GM Harker |
Unless there is a rule that I'm not recalling, let's do opposed strength checks to direct him away from the thorns. Since you'll need at least 5 successes, I'll just make the rolls on both sides, just let know who is doing the pulling. The rope is long enough to allow PC's to aid another. If Kalkamedes wins by 5 or more on any one check, he'll pull hard enough to make it into the brambles.
Quiella
|
Ophelia, Halkale, and Quiella are all "tied" for the highest STR modifier. Halkale tied the rope, so...
Quiella shoves Kalkamedes away and then grabs the rope Come on Halkale! and starts helping him pull it.
The rope is long enough, everyone grab an end! Quiella looks at the wolf. Cutter, can you tie the end to Nightrunner so he can pull too?
Cutter Wolfrider
|
[ooc]Opposed Str is probably as clean/easy as anything. You could probably also make a case for just using CMB/CMD checks. Cutter and Nightrunner can certainly aid! Nightrunner should be +1 to his check, Cutter +1 to his check, but his Aid adds +3 instead of +2./[ooc]
"Pull him away from the brambles Pathfinders!" Cutter rallies!
Ophelia Endronil

Ophelia takes hold of the rope as well, attempting to pull Kalkamedes away from the brambles.

With everyone grabbing a piece of rope, the group easily pulls the sleepwalker around the dangerous patch of razor bramble without a single issue, besides some minor rope burns on your hands. Afterwards, Kalkamedes continues walking blindly forward and away from the thorns.
Are you going to keep the leash on him? If so, who's holding it?
Cutter Wolfrider
|
As long as he seems ambivalent to be leashed, Cutter would be ok with it. We could tie the end to Nightrunner's saddle...
Quiella
|
Moadis is elsewhere, Mel.
Yes, I think we should keep the rope tied to Nightrunner.
Once they are clear of the brambles, Quiella releases her grip on the rope and moves to walk beside Kalkamedes.
"Well done team."
-Posted with Wayfinder
| GM Harker |
As long as Nightrunner leaves some slack on the rope for Kalkamedes to continue to walk it shouldn't be a problem.
After the group ties the other end of the rope to Nightrunner, the night march becomes uneventful again. An hour later, Kalkamedes abruptly turns to the west and, after a short distance, begins to walk into a watery bog. From where you are standing, it appears the bog is at least 40 feet across and 100 feet at either side from Kalkamedes apparent path.
