Side note all.
I have decided to do another Kickstarter on my game Moonshine Run. The kickstarter is in June, but i am getting an event together on Facebook so people will be able to keep updated on it. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, check it out.

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning for a conference through Saturday, so you'll likely see fewer posts from me this week than normal. Please feel free to bot my character.

So apparently single-classed samurai/cavaliers are nasty. He's not even using his mount, which is essentially a druid's animal companion except he needs to choose a horse...
Challenge is a nasty, nasty ability. Especially combined with 15-20 crit range.
Fortunately he didn't also have power attack.

ya, that was painful. I like a lot of things about unchained monk, but losing the ki point to ac is painful.

In preparation for the holidays:
I'll be unavailable a good chunk of time on each day between December 23rd and the 28th. I'll try to post as often as possible, but feel free to bot me if the games are moving quickly despite the holiday.

I have a feeling holidays are going to take a huge toll on all games this weekend. ;)

I hope you all are having a safe and enjoyable holiday season thus far.

Just a warning, starting January 14 I will be on a long business trip in a very different time zone, so likely my post rate will be shifting for the remainder of this game. I still expect to be able to post 1/day (hopefully), but if I go silent for a little (especially on weekends) I just want people to know what's up. :)

First official day back at my office, so i am now good to go as well.

Thank you :3 Now, if i can get my other GM... who has 6 links up... to fix that.. :(
FiddlersGreen
I rarely see samurai or cavaliers in PFS - apart from Alden - so I must admit I have completely underestimated them. Challenge is no friggin joke!
FiddlersGreen
For what it's worth, when I played this, Exiel spent the first few rounds of combat tagging every party member with resist energy fire. That turned out to be pretty useful.
Other thing we had that was useful - a bombs alchemist with ice bombs. That said... he was also the one who died...
FiddlersGreen
We've been stuck on this round for awhile now, so if I don't hear anything from Rand or Alden in the next 18 hours, I will assume Alden stays put beside Hatsue and protects her, and that Rand has fallen.
Your characters would also realise by now that dividing and isolating your group's members like they did with Rand is precisely their strategy. Some kind of coordination and strategy might go a long way here.
One more thing. Hatsue and Jiro are useful allies who will prove valuable in this fight. Don't write them off just because they are NPCs. Despite his unlucky low CMB rolls so far, Jiro is definitely a very seasoned warrior.

That is the first time i've ever used Vorpal.. and had it actually work..
FiddlersGreen
That's a good time to roll a 20, but do you have a way to reach him is the question. He's flying 10ft off the ground, which is 5ft above your head (i.e. not adjacent to you).
Rhon, you are not grabbed by the tentacles at the moment, so go ahead and do something else.

retcon to take out the arcana theft spell and put a bladed dash into it. That would get me the needed height and then some.... coming down will hurt, but only a little.
FiddlersGreen
You only needed 5ft of elevation to get to him. Techinically you also get an extra attack, but thanks to vorpal, you won't need it.
I'm picturing Climhazzard from final fantasy.
Subject - 42

Cool. I will use that extra attack if you let me, to put out this fire burning up my nice clothes.

Does anyone else have any healing capability that would be able to get Rand back in this fight? I don't believe I can take on this battle without some significant help at the moment.
FiddlersGreen
I'm trying to get Hatsue to do that, but her LoH only heals 2d6, and she doesn't have much of it. She could use 42's wand, but once 42 starts moving, he becomes a target once more, so he needs to be careful. This probably would have been a breeze if Itamar had made it this far. XD
From this side of the table, I'm really seeing the impact of that potion of fire resistance. When I played this, Exiel's first 4 rounds were spent casting resist energy fire on the party one at a time. Then again, my group had more trouble tanking the physical attacks of the oni, so we were struggling with the physical damage rather than fire damage. And our 'Leeroy' (first-in and first to go down) was an alchemist rather than a monk, and our "last best hope" (the one with both fire resist and high AC) was a paladin-sorcerer rather than a straight paladin. But I'm certainly seeing some parallels. XD
Btw, for what it's worth, you've spent quite some time in this fort by now, so your characters know the layout of the place. The enemy does not.

I can do a small group D-door and regroup a little. What do you guys think?
Silver Crusader Rhon Delver
|
That might not be a bad idea. If we can get Rand back with us that would be tremendous.
Rand, The Iron Fist

Sorry, my intent was to buy you all some time to get out here without getting caught in spell effects. Hence why I went through the north door.
Rand, The Iron Fist

Since it won't let me post in the gameplay thread for some reason, I'll post my stabilization check here.
Stabilization: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Don't sweat it, my group did something similar. Though... we barely got through the fight as a result...
Matamah the Thundering

Sorry for the short post. I am getting super busy this week.
If others want to run, I can change Matamah's actions to Dimension Door on some party members, but may not be able to check in time to change my actions, though.

42 knows only that there is fighting going on in there, so he's about to use some arcana pool points to bring the D-Door back and bring himself and the paladin back in.
Silver Crusader Rhon Delver

Rhon can not flee the field so long as some of his own remain. His oath will not allow it.

So I can't post in the gameplay thread for some reason. Here is my stabilization check.

Same as Rhon, Alden will fight to the death before he leaves his comrade on the floor.
FiddlersGreen
Rhon, you are a seasoned enough agent to know that if left to their own devices, the two confused oni beside you will attack each other till one of them falls. However, Naala looks like she will continue attacking the two-headed oni if you don't intervene...
But the good news is, if no one disturbs those two, they will fight each other till one of them falls, so that there's some progress in the fight...

Naala has been traveling with the group long enough that she would likely be amenable to a relatively easy Handle Animal DC from you guys, just saying.
FiddlersGreen

I'm happy to say that preservation instincts will take over if Naala sees that neither of the confused oni are presently interested in her.

Not being a class that deals with animals enough to have any skills related to it, I hope Naala will listen to reason and a good diplomacy roll.

I just want to double check. After we fought the Tengu in the previous battle, we rested up... Right?
FiddlersGreen
Yep, the tengu fight is long over, and you rested after that. You should have started this fight with full resources.
Why do you ask?
Subject - 42

During my last post, i used Arcana pool points to bring back a Vampiric Touch, which i haven't used this fight. So I should have 4 left now, since i haven't used it yet this fight. That is a major change in my next rounds actions.
FiddlersGreen
Well, if the dice roller hates Rand, it loves 42... 42 dodged a confirmed crit with a 20% miss chance, and the uber-oni has now rolled a natural 1 twice on his attempts to hit 42.
Subject - 42

42 is barely making it through this fight in one piece.
FiddlersGreen
He's got stoneskin and a large stack of temp hp now, so he's pretty beefy right now. Of course, nothing a few good thwacks from Nigankona can't fix. ;)
Subject - 42
|
I think that Alden, like the rest of us after this turn, might be retreating into the building. Bring the fight inside.
FiddlersGreen
It's something of an achievement that there were no deaths until round 18.
I've checked with some VOs. Because the rewards of the module are not tied to achieving objectives in the module, you could technically retreat now and still gain the full rewards. No one will be able to fault you - this battle seems to require strong ranged capabilities and lockdown so that Nigankona does not get full attacks. +30 to hit and 2 allies able to cast haste multiple times per day is pure murder for melee characters, barring ridiculous AC shenenigans.
42 was on the right track - debuffing Nigankona to a more reasonable state would have been a good alternative, but his SR is just a little higher than 25, so he can't even be reliably debuffed with magic either.
I guess Itamar would have also made a huge difference, but he decided to try to tank 2 greater shadows...
