Haha I can appreciate that, I ran a chapter of a module (Down the Blighted Path) here on the boards where nearly every room had a haunt!
It wasn't PFS, so I ended up adlibbing a lot of hints and knowledge checks to give the team an idea of how to satisfy the haunt without actually destroying it. It isn't always possible to do so, but when it is, I find the writers could be a little more detailed in offering hints to players.
GM Red |
Enjoy!
I'll be GMing my local group today so I won't be able to update until later or tomorrow morning.
Corona Merrion |
Have fun you two! Thanks for the status updates :)

Ha! Y'all have been busy while I've been gone. Fourteen new in discussion. Fifty new in Gameplay, which I haven't read yet. Whoa.
I'll be taking off tomorrow for home on the train which once again has terrible wi-fi. This will be the longest break that I have had from a PbP since I started playing... Still, it was a very busy convention!
Hmm
GM Red |
Thanks for gussying up my creepy chanting scene Hmm, that was just what I was going for!
Did I mention I'm traveling for work again right now? 'Cause I am, but I've felt so repetitive posting about it every two weeks so I opted not to. It's why my posts have been limited to late afternoon/evenings.
It should be my last work trip for a while if I have any say in it. I'm getting tired of this whole being on the road thing...
Corona Merrion |
And here I am, the Quintessential Homebody :3
GM Red |
I'm hoping to get back to my homebodying ways soon... I barely traveled last year.
Oh, and the way I ruled Boo's lack of noticing the spirit is by asking the question can an incorporeal see an incorporeal? I found no easy answer, so I went by the PDF, which more or less states Cassiel only appears once J enters the room.
Corona Merrion |
Funny thing, I'll actually be out of town at a convention next weekend which will make the first semi-major trip I've taken anywhere since my honeymoon five years ago.
GM Red |
That's FUN travel though! Where are you heading?
On an unrelated note, I mentioned to Mort that this may be the first scenario I've run without any real combat at all. You guys and your silver tongues!
Mort Gloomhollow |
Conventions aren't necessarily fun... Honeymoons are another story!
I'll be traveling this weekend myself so don't expect to hear from me from Friday afternoon until Sunday night or Monday morning.
Corona Merrion |
Nothing wrong with a talky scenario for a change of pace ;)
And I'll be headed to the St. Louis area for DieCon!
Mort Gloomhollow |
Mort is hoping to complete the following Season 8 Faction Card goals here:
(0/2)Recover blackmail or incriminating evidence against a named NPC aristocrat, noble, ambassador, or similar figure.
(0/2)Fulfill one of the goals above without revealing your faction affiliation to anyone other than a present or prospective member of the Sovereign Court. Checking one of this goal’s boxes doesn’t prevent you from checking one box for a different goal.
I'm assuming they fit pretty dang well. Does recovering need to be returned to Morilla or ?
GM Red |
There's just a little bit left and then the answer to that question will become clearer.
GM Red |
Yup, you guys have been great at keeping the speed up!
Two flights and a cab later, and I'm home :) I'll update us in a bit.
GM Red |
Paizo keeps going up and down for me or I'd have updated already... Bear with me here. We're just about done.
GM Red |
Feel free to check those two goals off, Mort.
Anyone else who's working through faction cards, let me know if you need me to "sign off" on anything.
Edit: Please also roll your day job if you have not already done so!
Double Edit: I just now realized Tanna was also a Liberty's Edge member. Oops. Sorry for not noticing sooner! You will get the boon as well.
Corona Merrion |
Day Job: Profession - Baker: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Ahh...I know I should probably start taking 10 on these checks but what can I say, I love to gamble!
Thanks for running this, GM Red! It's been a lot of fun :)
I don't think any of the Silver Crusade goals apply here except maybe this one:
Defeat an outsider that has the evil subtype, an evil-aligned creature with the elemental subtype, or an undead creature whose CR is at least equal to your character level.
Which I suppose depends on your definition of 'defeated' since we talked our way through everything!
*adds 'School of Spirits' to the list of scenarios she'd burn a boon/star to replay someday*
Mort Gloomhollow |
Great thanks. Ya I guess I need to be sure to focus on my faction cards with Mort since he doesn't have a day job and he fits pretty nicely as an enforcer type for Sovereign Court. I don't believe I was able to intimidate 2 guys in a single fight for this boon though:
Brutal Reputation: You have developed a reputation as an intimidating figure and fierce combatant. Once per adventure, you can enhance your reputation. Your reputation grows if you succeed at an Intimidate check that is written in to an adventure or successfully demoralize two or more foes during one combat. Your reputation also grows when you confirm a critical hit against an opponent whose CR is greater than your character level or suffer (and survive) a critical hit that deals an amount of damage equal to at least 5 times your character level, leaving you with a permanent, visible scar. When you achieve any of these goals during an adventure, ask your GM to record the adventure’s name and her Pathfinder Society number on the blanks below.
*Where there any checks I missed that would qualify as 'written in'? The group of drunks in the alley?

@Tanna - For PbP it seems to vary. Some GMs are willing to make a note of it on your chronicle and others I've seen are just kinda like, "Yeah, you met that goal, just slap it on your profile somewhere/check the box yourself."
If you're going to potentially be bouncing the same character(s) from F2F games to PbP and back again then I'd definitely get some sort of notations for meeting faction goals from your GMs.
Gitano Frallino |
Thank you GM Red for running this scenario. It was a lot of fun playing with all of you.
Gitano looks forward to his next adventure, now leveled up as a Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade)-1/Bard (Archaeologist)-1/Investigator (Sleuth)-1, and 'the Luckiest Man Alive!'
Cheers.
Mort Gloomhollow |
Aren't you a leveling madman and a multi-classing phenom! I've never personally been a big fan of lots of classes, 2 is about all I'll go, and that's usually for a prestige class back in the day.
A great game as usual, even though Mindy never got to play.
Corona Merrion |
Wow! Gitano is well on his way to being a man of many talents!

Here are your chronicles! Let me know if there are any errors on them. I have also reported the table.
Oh no! GMs have to sign off on faction card objectives?! I had no idea! I guess I'll need to retroactively go back and contact my previous GMs? Is it written on the scenario sheet or do they initial the faction card?
No need to worry, when I said "sign off," I meant it loosely. Basically, just ask me if the desired faction goal applies and I'll answer yes or no. :) Yes means you can check it off without me actually signing anything - unless as Corona said you want me to because you plan on playing the character in an F2F game.
Defeat an outsider that has the evil subtype, an evil-aligned creature with the elemental subtype, or an undead creature whose CR is at least equal to your character level.
I think it would be in the spirit of PFS to allow you to check this off so that you aren't missing out on something just because you didn't kill it. It's for this same reason that the greenwood items, which were held by the ghoran, are not crossed off your chronicle sheets. There shouldn't be a penalty for taking the diplomatic way out of things.
... if you succeed at an Intimidate check that is written in to an adventure ...
Yes. The alleyway jerks had a written intimidate DC to pass to scare them off, and you passed it!
Gitano Frallino |
Hi, GM Red.
Can you edit Gitano's chronicle sheet to include the day job? I used Perform (oratory), the roll was 15 for 10gp. (The entry was in Gameplay, Gitano's last post.)
Thanks,
Larry
GM Red |
Oops. Sorry about that, Larry. I overwrote the old chronicle with an updated one.
Gitano Frallino |
Thank you, sir.
Mort Gloomhollow |
Would you add in the gold spent? And PP spent?
Gold spent should be 1069g and PP spent was 2. So current gold should be 714g and current PP should be 3.
Other than that it looks perfect thanks Red.
Corona Merrion |
I think everything is in order on my chronicle; thank you so much!
Mmm...juicy, juicy wands on that chronicle sheet, too...
GM Red |

Yep. It'll work well with my wand-loving false wizard rogue, Silas!
I'll be marking this campaign as inactive tomorrow, so please save your chronicle if you haven't already done so. Thanks again for playing, it was my pleasure running the game. I will be in touch the next time I run one (probably after the special!).
Boo? |
This was an excellent game! Thank you!
Hmm
Corona Merrion |
Sounds good, GM Red. I've got my chronicle - thanks again for running the game! :)

Anybody planning another adventure? I have PCs in every tier; not all of them are wise-cracking ne'er-do-wells.
I also signed up for Granta's GM class. I think I'll benefit from the supervised, interactive training and hopefully avoid a few rookie mistakes. If you like to play, you need to give back to the community by running sessions, too, right?
Corona Merrion |
@Tanna - Sometimes it takes me a few scenarios to really nail down a PC's personality so I understand completely!
@Gitano - I still need to run my first 'solo' game as a GM, which I'm sure I've mentioned before somewhere. It'll at least have to wait until I get back from my con but I'll try to get something rolling soon! Not sure if I should wait until Cosmic Captive is done or not, though...
(I'm not GMing Cosmic Captive but I am playing in it and I suspect a lot of folks are doing both.)
